The White Horse in Daventry

Visited on a weekday lunchtime. Sat outside as it was sunny. Enjoyed the chicken and bacon sandwich which came with salad and chips. Service was friendly.

Went here for lunch today and was very pleasantly surprised. Lovely welcoming staff and cosy interior. Although there was little choice for vegans I had the roast vegetable sandwich and it was absolutely superb. My friend ordered the chicken sandwich and broccoli and Stilton soup which went down well too. All the food that came out of the kitchen looked appetising and although it got quite busy, service was brisk. I hope to return soon.

Very good communication leading up to a family meal for ten. A warm welcome, great food and excellent service. We all really enjoyed the whole evening. Thank you.

On a rare weekend when I was free I turned up on spec to see if I could get a Sunday lunch. I was warmly greeted and shown to a table. The 3 course lunch was excellent (pate, roast pork, crème brûlée) and the service was friendly and efficient. Will definitely be eating there again.

Booked for Sunday lunch and we were not disappointed. Friendly attentive staff, shout out to the lovely Matt and Izzy who served us. The roast dinner was cooked to perfection, Yorkshire puddings light as a feather. Desserts equally good, a selection of crumble, double brownie with cherry compote, sticky toffee and a mocha creme brulee quickly devoured. We had a selection of coffees and tea after and sat in the relaxed bar where our dogs were spoiled and made welcome, a doggie biscuit or two was a lovely touch. Good luck to Matt who is leaving in April, what an asset to the business at the White Horse, he will go far. Safe travels Matt. We will be back to sample more lovely hospitality and food.

Homely atmosphere with warm log burner. Adequate choices on the menu including for veggie companion, reasonably priced. Food was good, service friendly. For a lunchtime in a village pub this was quite busy, although not full I would suggest you book to avoid disappointment. There are speciality evenings on a regular basis so worth checking pre booking for these. Adequate parking in car park.

We only found out White Horse was open again quite recently, so last weekend we popped over for Sunday lunch with another family. We were so impressed by that visit, that last night with some visitors over from Spain (and no kids) we thought we would go back to the White Horse this weekend. Again - it was absolutely excellent. Friendly and attentive service compliment a delicious menu with pub favourites galore - plus some excellent less traditional dishes as well. We highly reccomend either of the risottos (pea for a starter version, or I think it was haddock for a main), or for me - the steak burger was probably the best pub food I have tasted in Northamptonshire. Prices are also very reasonable - especially compared to other local places claiming to be "gastro-pubs". Its 5 stars across the board - everything we have experienced here on these two visits has been perfect. Really looking forward to the summer months and an afternoon or two enjoying the garden. Visited with family and friends for Christmas Eve lunch. We booked and pre ordered in advance and, despite some minor issues with the reservation, the table was ready when we arrived. Christmas menus can often be underwhelming, but everything here was spot on. The service was very good: friendly, attentive, but not over-the-top. The food was all superb in terms of preparation, presentation, and value. Having enjoyed our Christmas Eve lunch so much, I’m sure that we’ll be back soon!

Amazing, walked in and even though it was busy we received a warm welcome from a very friendly chap. Overall service was amazing, food was beautiful and atmosphere cozy. My six year old son also enjoyed his meal and colouring.

We had booked as a group of 11 for the Christmas lunch menu. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was delicious and the meal was well paced - we didn’t have to wait long between courses but certainly didn’t feel rushed. We’ll definitely visit again

Excellent service and food. We were a group of 9 and had prebooked a few weeks before. We were greeted, sat and served drinks almost immediately. Food followed on perfect intervals. We had pre ordered so we we’re guaranteed our choices and they did not disappoint. We were very much looked after. Food was excellent and we will be back.

Visited with friends on a Tuesday evening! We weren’t expecting it to be busy, but we booked just in case! Glad we did!! It was busy with people eating & a few folk at the bar! They offered a deal on mains, which had a fabulous selection! The also offered specials, which one of my friends had! Firstly the warm welcome when you arrive from Matt & Izzy. Then Tim came over to welcome us & share their new menu! The service was great! The food was fabulous! And such good value! We will definitely be regulars to the lovely country pub! Special thanks to Matt & Izzy! But to the chef too!

Today 19 of us had a set menu lunch at the White Horse, prior to the event I had excellent communication with staff . On the day our tables were all set and the bar service, table service was superb thanks to Matt and Tom. Our food came out on time and all together with no delays and was fresh and delicious. Our desert was very pretty and the brownies were great. Some of us were made to feel so welcome we stayed longer and avoided the rain. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel so welcome. THANK YOU

Some weeks ago, after a night out at this pub, we rebooked for tonight. We invited some friends to join us. On entering the premises, it was like walking into a nightclub. The place was packed and there was live entertainment from a couple, who were far too loud for the size of the room. Patrons were shouting to be heard above the noise. Many were a bit worse for wear. I am very surprised that the management didn’t call us prior to our visit, to explain that a St George’s Day Beer Festival was planned for tonight and ask whether we still wanted to eat there. This was possibly the worse night out we’ve ever had. We couldn’t even hear ourselves speak. There was even a separate menu for Beer Festival customers. Our meals weren’t as enjoyable as we would have liked; my Chicken Kiev was chewy. Overall a very disappointing experience.

We visited for dinner with friends on Saturday evening as we had heard the place had undergone new management - well it didn't disappoint! Lovely relaxed atmosphere, great attentive staff and the food was delicious.. I had the Fish & Chips & the chocolate brownie - absolutely delicious. Will be back very soo soon..

Had a wonderful Mother’s Day lunch with family that had travelled from Wiltshire. Food was delicious, the service from the young lady was outstanding and best of all it is dog friendly! Thank you for making our visit so lovely!

Went to go to the pub at 22:30pm on a Friday night. Was incredibly disappointed to arrive and be told that the pub was closed and the rest of our other friends were sent to the pub in the next village. This was very inconvenient and shocking as it was only 22:30 on a Friday night! It’s clear to see the pub is no longer busy enough and doesn’t have the customers to justify staying open typical hours to accommodate for customers drinking over the weekend. We will unfortunately not being returning. My friends and I would rather continue to go to the rival pub who were more than accommodating and welcoming! It’s a shame for the white horse to have lost out on 10+ customers.

My wife and I decided to have a night out together at the White Horse and our expectations were very much exceeded. We sat in the well kept garden and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The White Horse is a hidden gem and well worth a visit.

I’ve visited the pub a couple of times recently with friends. We would certainly go again as the food was excellent and good value supported by a friendly and helpful staff, combined with a good atmosphere. Easy to get to, both from the A43 and A508.

I don’t normally write reviews on here, that’s why you can see its my only review but I feel like I should do after what can be only describe as, one the best Father’s Day.Yes, of course it was busy it’s Father’s Day for such a good pub I wouldn’t expect anything else, but his did not affect service or food quality.Staff were very attentive, and couldn’t do enough for us. The food, roasts, great selection of vegetable, roast beef, perfectly cooked rare, (my wife would disagree that’s why she went for lamb). Homemade Yorkies were to die for, if it wasn’t busy we probably would of been cheeky and asked for more. We had read and seen mixed reviews about this place so was sure what to expect but if they keep up there high standards like they did then they will continue to be a very busy local village pub.If you have had a bad experience in the past before I can say if you went again based on our experience you wouldn’t be left unhappy.To top of off, I got a free pint as it was Father’s Day, didn’t even know this when book but was a nice surprise.

If I was writing this review 6 weeks ago, I would have commented on how the Sunday Roast was as good as the best home cooked food you could ever wish to taste. How the service was both professional and yet also so very relaxed and friendly. How the whole ambience worked perfectly.It was so good we, my wife & I, often raved about the White Horse to friends and recommended it to anyone who asked about great pubs to enjoy a proper Sunday lunch. It was why we decided to go there for Fathers Day. An important occasion for every family. A time to spoil your Dad with delicious food and a great atmosphere.Sadly the whole event was spoilt. Perhaps the call at 10AM this morning to advise the table we’d requested was deemed not to be suitable for our party of 5 should have rung alarm bells. Bizarrely when we arrived, the same table had a different party of 5..... it turned out the ‘Investor’ was sitting there.... just a coincidence I’m sure....It was explained that new management had taken over 3 weeks ago. If only we knew that beforehand.The food was at best bland, at worst poor. The service, apart from 1 guy who who was genuinely sincere in his manner, very un professional. So very different to before. So disappointing.The new guy in charge did spend time explaining what had happened & listened to our concerns which is to be applauded. The desserts were provided free of charge & after further discussion 50% deducted from the final bill. No doubt lots of changes will be made over the coming months and lots of improvements made to return to the quality establishment previously enjoyed, but for now we’ll think of alternative venues for a Sunday Lunch or any meal.....

Pub has recently been taken over and offered breakfast in the morning on the weekends. What a great idea with excellent portions. Would definitely return for the breakfast. Also lots of nice beverages in stocks for the alcohol and non alcohol drinkers.

We came for dinner on Saturday to celebrate eldest sons birthday. We were a bit worried as heard it was in administration but we were told it had been taken over.

we booked a table for 2 for sunday lunch at 2.00.it took us 30mins to get to the restaurant only to be told when we got there the restaurant was shut and they tried to ring us earlier on.when we got home the pub had rung at 8 mins past 11 no message left cancelling our booking...........happy what do you think.surely the chef would have arrived to work before then, would we return ...................I don't think so

We had Sunday Lunch on Easter Sunday. I had delicious Lamb and Louise Pork. Roast potatoes, Cauliflower Cabbage and Leeks with Yorkshire Pudding and really good gravy. The veg was perfectly coked

Haven't been here for years and we heard they had been recently rejuvenated so we have it a try. Nice atmosphere and decoration. Good varied menu however all pretty heavy for lunch. I'd have had something lighter if there was this on the menu. Most of the items were very substantial. We opted for several starters and thus was a good choice. Friendly staff and chef topped the visit.

Two of us and two dogs enjoyed lid-week evening meal - reserved table online. First time tried a plant-based burger - tasty choice.

Last minute decision to book this evening. We were warned that they had a large party in their function room, but you couldn’t tell. Service was excellent. Food was splendid, great value and the menu rich and varied. One minor negative was the louder than required music volume, but it didn’t kill the conversation. Highly recommended for a great night.

The White Horse is probably what we would call “our local” being in a neighbouring village. We dropped in with some friends for dinner, we were made very welcome by the bar staff.

Great relaxed atmosphere with a good choice of food, not just the regular things like steak and pies but also fish and duck, various vegetarian choices also.

So, I’m going to talk you through mine and my families experience of my 30th birthday meal at the White Horse in Old. My partner and I, with our two year old girl, have been here a handful of times before and really enjoyed the food so thought it would be a great place to introduce my family and friends to. The staff have always been pleasant so thought it would be a great shout for my birthday meal. Boy was I wrong. I’d pre-booked a table via Facebook Messenger and the person on the other end seemed totally understanding and I felt a sense of comfort from them thinking we would be looked after or taken care of during our visit. WRONG!!!!!!!!!

room was cold and service was VERY slow - an hour waiting between courses. But the food was nice and the staff were friendly - but not enough of them.

The initial experience was good, the chilli garlic king prawns were lovely to start and the atmosphere was relaxed. My friends had the Duck, Slow Roasted Belly Pork and Pie which all looked great. I chose the Mushroom and Crispy Kale Risotto which just wasn’t nice, it was too Al Dente and I think the truffle oil added an odd taste. I’m not a fussy eater at all but I was really struggling I eat it. Then I found a really odd piece of food in my mouth I was struggling to eat, when I looked it was two strands of metal which looked like they were from a Brillo pad/pan scourer. The waiter said sorry, shall I get you another one and I said no thank you. Everyone else was half way through their food and I had not enjoyed it so I didn’t see the point of wasting food. The waiter took the metal bits to the kitchen and never came back to our table to explain. As I was with friends I didn’t want to make a fuss, even when the table was cleared with clearly nearly a full portion of Risotto left, again nothing was mentioned. I was also disappointed to see that I had been charged for my meal.

Great food and brilliant service, the staff were really accommodating when a couple of members of the group were late for lunch. All food was perfectly cooked for our table of 12 and everyone enjoyed their meals.I would definitely recommend a visit.

We booked lunch for 4 adults, a 10 year old and a toddler. Our party was a mix of vegans, pescatarians, and carnivores.

Having booked a Sunday lunch for a party of 12 people and, having actually pre-ordered all the dishes, we were placed in a rather cold upper room and waited too long for our meals. It was over an hour after we had finished our main course that the desserts arrived despite a number of requests that we be served.

Found this pub by chance and stopped for lunch with my other half. The service was excellent and we enjoyed sitting by the wood fire. The food was lovely especially the lamb and mint pie, highly recommended!! We will definitly be returning! It is a small pub so if you want to go for Sunday lunch or evening dinner I would suggest booking

Easily the finest pub in Old! :) Tom and Sophie were fantastic and I will return for the good beer, excellent bangers and mash, and the ridiculously difficult quiz night!

Whether you are just wanting a drink, a bucket of chips or a 3 course meal, this pub is a real gem. James and his team are welcoming and professional, and the food is delicious. There is comfortable seating in the bar, and an area for you to eat, or if you want some where quieter, there is the snug or the millstone room upstairs which is also available for private events. It has a lovely garden with plenty of space for the kids to run around. And if you are the driver there is a great selection of non-alcoholic drinks, so you don't have to be stuck with the normal soft fizzy drinks. I would highly recommend it.

After having moved to the area a week ago we called in last week and had great pies and beers. Service was slow but we were patient. This week however we called in again on Tuesday for the pie and pint night and I was served a beer from the end of the barrel which I was only charged a half for but it was a bit ropey and also I bought a pint of diet coke for my friend and my other friend a pint of the ale she had last week. Sophie the bar staff poured it and it looked like the diet coke. No head and flat as a fart. I asked if a head could be put on it but apparently no. I gave it to my friend with raised eyebrows and she said she'd try it. She sent it back. Awful beer. So that's two beers off. Brilliant. On to the food. Absolutely no taste whatsoever in the steak pies. After having the lamb and mint last week which was amazing this was just so poor. We have worked all day farming and we were absolutely famished. So SO disappointed.

Always bèen good though this time service was slow. We all had an excellent starter, particularly those of us who had tge haggis scotch egg. Those of us who had chips with the main course were dissapointed though as although the burger, steak etc were good the chips were dreadful. Would have had another few beers as well but struggled to get staff attention so we paid the bill and went elsewhere to end the evening. I'm sure we'll return but will try a few other places first.

On the positive side all the staff we encountered were friendly, helpful and polite. However, this is totally marred by the fact that the starter arrived after a wait of around 40 minutes - and was truly not worth the wait at all. The main course was overcooked (or had continued to cook having been left waiting too long before being served - either way - not good) - we were told the bill would be reduced accordingly but this didn't happen (probably due to lack of communication between staff). Either kitchen management or general organisation need a serious review and overhaul - we weren't the only disappointed customers; other tables were also heard complaining! When we realised we hadn't been given the promised reduction in our bill we could have returned to query but had, by then, almost lost the will to live and as the journey home was some 45 minutes, just went home very disappointed. Afraid we probably won't be returning.

This pub has serious character, serious food, and serious ales on offer all applied by fantastic staff. We spent an afternoon (and evening) at our friend’s wedding reception which was set in the beautiful garden under Marquee. The venue is superb, spacious, clean and very trendy. Wedding buffets can often be hit and miss but this was absolutely on point! I can’t thanks the staff enough, the food, venue and hospitality was outstanding... we will be visiting again.

We decided to pop here for a evening meal on Saturday and after having a lovely surprise 18th birthday party here in May, we were really looking forward to it. We were served by Paul and two other ladies who were friendly, approachable and made us feel really welcome. The food was incredible. My boyfriend had a steak which was, in his words, easily one of the best he’s had and really reasonably priced. I had a home cooked pie which was equally as lovely, wait time is never an issue when the food is as fresh and as good as ours was. We will definitely be back!

The beer was good and the the food selection was traditional pub, but good quality. I had a pie and my friend had fish and chips, and both were hot and well prepared. I’d heard good things about this pup in rural Northamptonshire, especially about their pies, so wanted to try it out.

WE went to this pub with friends having researched that they had vegan food. They did but only one dish, the other choices were very ordinary. The staff however were very pleasant and moved us upstairs as the bar was very noisy ( good to see it well used) and we wanted to chat to friends. The choices of food let it down as what we had was well presented.
