Lunch time visit. Very limited lunch options - no soups or salads - and what was on the menu was incredibly over priced. A “fish gujon” sandwich priced at £14.00 ! And when it turns up the “granary bread” is just basic brown ready sliced packet bread. The gujon was greasy and the accompanying chips straight out of a freezer packet, only just warm when delivered to our table, and tasting of nothing. All really cheap items and then they have the cheek to charge fancy gastro pub prices. A pub that can’t even be bothered to get the basics right. If you wanted a jacked potatoe it was £9.50! A tuna mayo sandwich £12.50! Much better quality food, prepared by people who care available in many places but may the Artichoke.

Food was good and the drinks were hitting the spot. It’s a lovely cosy village pub! The service was great and everything came at a steady pace. The fries tasted like the fryers are close to needing to be changed but apart from that everything was stunning. Will return.

A very pleasant experience, food was great with a lot of specials on offer. It was reasonably priced, and the quality was good. The pub is clean and well maintained and the staff were friendly and polite. Service was a tad slow but i suspect thats the price of freshly cooked food. Would eat there again, great place to take family and friends

Visited today for a Sunday roast and was utterly disappointed. We have 4 roast beef dinners and a pate starter. The pate came with a piece of brown toast for £7.50 not happy at all. The beef had more fat than meat and we were given one small dish of cauliflower cheese between 4. Would not recommend for £100 for 4 adults. Very poor quality and a shame as we are local

Would like to thank the lovely Artichoke gang who are always lovely with my mum when she sometimes visits for Sunday lunch by herself. My mum is 81 and visited yesterday and couldn’t wait to tell me what a wonderful experience she has had. She loves sitting outside in the garden and enjoying the beautiful flowers. It’s so nice to know she is made to feel so welcome. Special thank you to Shelly the landlady for spending time with her.

We came to one of our local pubs in Moulton, and had food (which was lovely) but the service from the manager was appalling. My 2 younger brothers who aren’t even that old, stood in dog mess in the outside bit of the garden where you eat. This dog was the owners dog as I was told by one of the workers here, who even leaves there dog unattended at a public space when people are eating, I don’t know? Not only is this disgusting, we requested to get the poo cleaned up and I had to go up about 20 mins later asking again because it still hadn’t been done. You would think the owner of the pubs dog would go and clean it up themselves, but instead they get one of the bar staff to do it instead. Disgraceful! Then about an hour later the woman manager came outside collecting glasses and my 2 younger brothers had this tiny ball they were playing with no where near anyone in the garden, they were near the bush. And the owner said “no ball games”. Just miserable!!!! Also my little brother had a small scooter and there was some pavement and no one was on it so he wanted to just scooter a little bit on it as he couldn’t do it on the grass because there was crap all over the grass!!!! The manager also said come off of that. Grow up actually!

Enjoyed dinner here on two consecutive evenings during a recent stay in Moulton. The restaurant was relatively quiet on both evenings, possibly due to the Euros taking place and there did not appear to be a TV in the pub. Our meals were tasty and freshly cooked, Beef curry, Chicken 'special' and Fish & Chips. (The beef curry was superb).

THe Artichoke does not serve meals here on Monday and Tuesday so we were only able to eat here on the last of our 3 night stay in Moulton. It was well worth the wait! The pub was super busy so we waited a while for our starters but we were not in a hurry and they were delicious when they came- i particularly appreciated the generous salad garnish that came with the 2 large home made smoked haddock and prawn croquettes. Mains followed at a good interval after the starters, and my beef stir fry was amazing value with plenty of large chunks of well cooked beef which were melt in the mouth tender. If it wasn't fillet steak then they have an amazing butcher! The portions were extremely generous , my husband had an enormous lamb shank, the only down side was that he felt his accompanying cabbage was too heavily laced with bacon strips, which he said reduced its contrast to the rich meat of the lamb. Had we known how huge the portions would be we might have opted for the smaller options of the same dishes at reduced price. Altogether a superb meal in an excellent atmosphere. Brilliant value and delicious food.

Hope I don't get my brother into trouble as he recommended this place for Sunday lunch for 4 people. Place was busy when we arrived just before our 3.15pm booking. We were shown to our table and, after half an hour of waiting, my brother went to ask when they would take our drinks order. A girl took our order and at our suggestion also took our food order at the same time rather than our having another long wait. After 4.30 we were still waiting for our food. My brother complained and we were told they were waiting for roast spuds to cook. It was heading towards 5pm when the food, which was a simple Sunday roast , finally arrived. Both the manager and the cook challenged our timing of how long we waited by stating that we didn't order food until 3.45pm despite our pointing out that we had arrived punctually before 3.15 and waited half an hour just to order drinks never mind food. To our horror the meal ordered for one of the party who is celiac, had Yorkshire pudding on it, so had to be replaced entailing a further delay for her. We paid the bill, (full price) no apology from manager, no complimentary drink or discount. As we left I made the comment sarcastically , "Apology accepted". He replied "That's OK" so I said, "No - for the s""t service". He just carried on talking to a customer at the bar. Overall impression. Being busy is no excuse for terrible service. There seemed to be a lack of staff on duty working their socks off, but the manager still found time to be sitting down outside smoking when we arrived and at no point addressed our concerns, Noticed the till receipt says 16.31 on it which is kinda difficult as we hadn't even got our food then. Needless to say, won't hurry back to The Artichoke.

The food used to be lovely, but this evening they got one of the mains wrong and when it came out it was a burnt, dry chicken burger. Then got told they would cook what we actually ordered but we'd have to wait 20 minutes. Everyone else finished and we ended up taking it home in tin foil. Bit expensive for what we had and probably won't go back.

I have been contemplating writing this review, however I feel it is necessary to add a review with my overall experience at this pub. I booked this venue to hold my fathers wake a few weeks ago. I was recommended by family and had several conversations with Shelly the owner which were pleasant and nice. Shelly greeted us on arrival with a warm welcome and apologised for our loss. We have a child in the group who has a severe nut allergy and Shelly dealt with this amazingly, she adapted the menu and cleaned all the pub to ensure no traces of peanuts, this was lovely. Unfortunately that’s where the good experience ended. My overall involvement with the landlord was horrible, he was rude and shouted at us that he’d had enough of us and then hid upstairs. (Once we had paid the bill) This was upsetting to be spoken to in this way. Yes we were drinking and yes we may have been a little loud sometimes but we were not rude, rowdy or unpleasant. We had just attended my fathers funeral we were celebrating his life. No empathy from him and such an unpleasant experience especially with the circumstances. Shelly was very apologetic regarding his behaviour however he would not apologise for his rude and aggressive manner. Due to this reason unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend or visit this pub again. This is such a shame as all the other bar staff were lovely, empathic and helpful.

Really nice country pub, and great if you are staying in one of the local hotels that may not serve food in the evenings. It is a very short 5 minute walk from The Poplars hotel, and serves food until 8:30pm. If you're eating a little later in the evening, best to ring ahead and make sure food will still be served. I can guarantee a warm, hearty pub meal upon ordering. The pie is a proper pie, served in a dish encased totally in pastry. Desserts were nice, but again, if you're eating later in the evening, be prepared for a few of the desserts to be sold out. All in all, just a really nice country pub, with a lovely warm and friendly atmosphere. Say hi to the dog! It's a lovely old timer and such a cute dog. Loves to be petted.

We took our Mums out for Sunday lunch after hearing good things about the food here. Sadly very disappointed, expect vegetables to be al dente but these, especially the broccoli and carrots were hard verging on solid. Mothers had pork and chicken which they enjoyed but our beef was inedible. It was tough, cut wrong, overcooked and tasteless. I didn't even bring it home for our dog. Such a shame as had visited before, not recently, and the pub has a great selection of ales but sadly based on today's meal, we won't be back. This was a hive of activity on the night I visited, great choice of beer, friendly staff and even live music. I was a solo tourist but found that I was made most welcomed by staff and locals alike. I had a great night.

Massive thank you for Chris and his team. As local to the village to come to the pub on the resent 80’s night, it was great. The energy and atmosphere was fantastic. We ate and all our food was lovely. We are looking forward to the next event night. Great to see the pub buzzing again.
