Called in on off chance made welcome an host excellent as was soup and mulled wine.

I’ve always enjoyed eating here and have done on several occasions. However, I was startled by the decline in standard of food and the waitress’ attitude was especially poor for a service job. We came in for early lunch, one had the fish and chips that looked frozen and the curry was very underwhelming with the potatoes barely cooked. Even though there was only two others in the pub it took 20 minutes to bring us some fresh drinks. Perhaps a bad day at the office? This used to be a destination pub for me living 25 mins away but shall not be hurrying back.

5 stars are not enough for the Red Lion! We were staying nearby and came for dinner with our dog. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the homemade pie and sticky toffee pudding. Really generous drinks portions too! The staff were also really lovely and welcoming and very attentive. We loved it and will visit again the next time we are nearby.

The Red Lion for decades had a cooking school and the best food for miles. It's been taken over by a national brewery and they now serve mediocre pub grub. I travel to England twice a year and for 3 decades went there. (Born and raised in Northampton) I can't go anymore, its been ruined. My only hope is a private owner can get the pub and make is as good as it used to be. British food is magnificent, this is not.

Shocking! Waited an hour and a half for main courses that we ended up cancelling. Not explained the menu too when others around us were. Starters came out wrong. No one approached for second drinks. Approached to complain and was met with a sour face.

Stopped in whilst travelling the local roads on a motorbike ride, can highly recommend both the hot and cold drinks.

My fiance and I were passing through and hadn't booked a table for lunch. They fitted us in with no hesitation at all. The food was superb and the service and staff were excellent. Brilliant place to eat and visit.

I’m late in writing this review as we stayed over night 31st Aug. We were a family booking of 12 and therefore required all of the rooms which all were very clean and beautifully presented. As our stay was a very special occasion we had The Den which is a separate room and enabled us to decorate and have a family meal together without having to keep the noise down. The food was very good and plenty of it especially the breakfast which was offered as a buffet style where we could help ourselves at our table and a separate Vegan breakfast was provided also. The staff was so helpful and friendly and could not do more to make our weekend special. This was our second stay as a family and we are already planning our return.

Just back from a very enjoyable Sunday lunch at Red Lion. We sat outside on front terrace in the sunshine. Food and service were excellent!!

Stayed overnight, with breakfast included at The Red Lion. The host was very welcoming and friendly and accommodated our needs throughout our stay. We spent the evening in the bar, nice atmosphere and busy enough to be interesting for a village pub! Room was very clean, a fair size for a double and the bed was comfortable. Lots of history that comes with the buidling, make sure you talk to the host about it 😊 Breakfast was plentiful and tasty! Would definitely stay again.

An exceptional visit! As outlined extremely harshly in another review on here there were supply issues but there was a lot of choice on the reduced menu and we were able to have exactly what we wanted. Food was fantastic and the staff were attentive, polite and to be honest some of the most welcoming people I have ever met. Our room was spotless and so comfortable. We had thought we would explore the area but stayed at the Red Lion due to the welcome and service - exploring can wait until today when we leave. Thank you to all staff

Had a meal at The Red Lion …Saturday night only two tables being used the whole evening …staff friendly but slow …ordered our main meals …the Caesar Salad (£14) a bowl of lettuce and grated cheese …no bacon no garlic croutons no anchovy and no avocado…got a small piece of chicken at an extra £2.50…the bacon arrived after we pointed this out to the waitress but nothing else obviously crotons too difficult for the chef ! Massaman Curry was nice …my husband ordered the pie of the day with chips …he got new potatoes ! Not a problem but not good service There was a man walking around talking to the staff we assumed he was the manager …at no point did he come to apologise or explain why the chef didn’t know how to put together the Caesar Salad on the menu? There were five people eating there on a Saturday night and three of those were us …I guess that should have been a warning ! They took the Caesar Salad off the bill and our daughter received a complementary bottle of water …we only found that out by looking at the bill …no one acknowledged the poor service we received …had the manager been more professional he should have spoken to us directly

We’ve not eaten here for a while and fancied a change. It was a Saturday night and didn’t appear to be busy although there was a group in the private dinning area. The food when it arrived was lovely however it was clear that the team were short staffed as there was a 45min wait for starters from order. Staff did their best however I’d recommend employing more staff especially on busy evenings.

The sea food pasta was mainly pasta and tomato paste. So disappointing. Very little seafood. But the service was great 👍

Just stopped by for a quick drink after football training, but ended up staying for supper. Ceasar Salard was one of the best I've had and the kids portions were very generous. Also service was very professional and polite. Will definitely be back.

Food was OK had fish and chips batter wasn't crispy but tasted OK

Haven't been in for years and we only live in West Haddon. On the whole it was a good lunch, service staff were polite and attentive. Food was very fresh and good portions, extra gravy came out for the roasts. Would definitely recommend.

I begrudge having to write this review, however I am appalled by the service (or lack of) from the red lion. I’ve tried to contact them several times and have been ignored, which is especially frustrating since the manger replied to a review a few days ago. We made a booking of 20+ for my partner’s birthday in June. Although the food was lovely, the service was not. Firstly, we were left waiting a while for the food even though it was preordered. Secondly, each person had to go to the bar to order drinks as staff did not take orders from the table - even though it was on one tab. They were clearly understaffed on the night, considering the size of our party. Thirdly, there was an issue with the preorder of desserts and some people did not receive a dessert and were not informed until the rest of the group had theirs. The lady dealing with this was also quite rude and did not offer a resolution. Finally, there was a dispute about the bill and I’ve emailed the manager several times as some items cannot be attributed to anyone in the party but have not received a response. Emails were sent on 28/06, 03/07 and 15/07. It really is a shame as we’ve been here before and enjoyed the food, but it is safe to say that none of the party will be returning and the customer service received is unsatisfactory. Again, I would have been happy to resolve this but feel forced to write a review due to the lack of response.

Lovely old traditional pub with some period features. Nice bedroom but key thing was the food- absolutely spot on. The breakfast was huge and also truly delicious. Made to order which is definitely better than buffet in my books anyway. Nothing to fault on that front at all- for dinner had fish and chips which was really good and the dessert lived up to their claims of being very good as all made in house. Service with a smile. A great find and good value considering breakfast included which filled me up for most of the day!

Venue was great...as was the food... waitress was great...there was a guy in a waistcoat who was being complete pillock swearing about his "vintage" cocktail mixer...but other than that...( We are people watchers lol )...i had been wanting to visit for a while and I would definitely go again

It’s a shame as about 4 weeks, I had an amazing, faultless meal here but today the service let it down and the Roast Beef! We had to ask each time when we wanted our orders taken, had to go to the bar to order drinks as had been sitting down waiting for 20 minutes. Service was friendly when we did get served but it was very slap and dash. The roast beef which is meant to be served pink was not pink and was overdone, extremely chewy and was impossible to cut with the knife. They had run out of stuffing too. The desserts on the other hand were great. Quite disappointing overall though today, I have to say. Particularly for the price you pay…today it was a let down and I don’t think I will be back in a hurry.

We came here for food rather than to stay. The food was divine: I had pork belly. But some mostly service-related issues knocked the shine off our experience. The waitress said she'd come to the beer garden to take our order, but forgot about us. So, we moved inside. Then, one of us was served while the other three were kept waiting. Then, it turned out that our three orders had been lost completely. Then, the pork belly came without the advertised crackling. Its unavailability should have been indicated. It's a shame because the food was very good.

The Red Lion is a lovely restaurant located on Main Street in East Haddon with it's own off road car park at the side and rear. As two family couples we recently enjoyed a lovely lunch at the restaurant. The menu is excellent providing a good choice of dishes and there is a well stocked bar with draught beers and fine wines. We had an enjoyable quiet weekday afternoon at The Red Lion and will definitely return.

Stayed here for a night. The room was lovely and the breakfast the next day was excellent. Staff were also very helpful. Would highly recommend

Our 3rd time at this lovely place for lunch and it is still as good as when we first came here. The setting is beautiful and the menu is very good indeed. The service is friendly and efficient and the food never disappoints. The specials on the menu were excellent with 2 of us choosing the chicken with tomatoes and pesto and the swordfish steak. Sunday lunch looks amazing and they have some very good events coming up in the diary for the summer. This is a lovely place to be and consistent in service, food, value and ambiance. Im definitely coming back.

Wow! Highly recommend this venue for food and hospitality. We visited East Haddon yesterday and met family for birthday lunch. Food was excellent, hosts were super helpful (especially Amelia F), they have a fab beer garden plus they’re dog friendly! Fabulous experience. Can’t wait to return.

A night out with the girls for a meal, drinks, quiz and giggles. Food was beyond amazing and the whole atmosphere in general was perfect. I would give more stars if I could! We didn't stay just dine n wine.

I enjoyed a sunny afternoon in the garden and loved the music choice it really set a nice vibe for the afternoon. The staff are really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I’ve been to this pub a few times now and had several delicious meal, there is so much to choose from I look forward to the new menu

A beautiful pub with a great atmosphere and really friendly staff. The music sets the mood perfectly, especially when enjoying a nice cocktail in the garden. The quiz on Wednesdays is really fun and well thought out. Will definitely be returning ☺️

I’ve been to The Red Lion a few times now and saw they offered different “theme” nights one of them being a quiz night. A few friends attended and had a lovely meal and took part, it was a really fun quiz one of the best I have been too. The questions catered for everyone and there was a round for Swedish swear or ikea chair which I thought was brilliant! I will definitely be returning for other events that are being held. All the team are fantastic, our server Chris and Amelia were so attentive and bubbly and really friendly definitely a credit to the business.

Lovely meal and drinks in their garden, good music and great wine selection. Pork bites were delicious. Could have stayed their all day if the wife hadn't needed to go food shopping!

Stopped here on our way home from Weedon Bec. Looking lovely on the outside it was just as welcoming on the inside. We had drinks and liked the service and atmosphere so much we decided to stay and eat here. Being a Friday evening the place soon got very busy, but service was not lacking at all. We ate in the bar, but the 2 restaurant areas did look very nice. Food was very tasty. My husband’s steak was beautifully done. I had a Waldorf salad and ordered some blue cheese to be added. I must say though the amount of cheese was a little stingy, but it didn’t distract from a very tasty salad. A lovely place to spend our Friday evening and somewhere we’d definitely recommend.

Very disappointing first visit to this Pub/Hotel/Restaurant. Requested a quiet area but was put next to a noisy bar. Service was slow and lacked any care. Waited 30 minutes for meals but no explanation or apology given! The beef pie was salty and the vegetables overcooked. When asked if the meal was OK, I mentioned that the meat was salty but there was no response. The place just got noisier and noisier as more customers sat in the bar and shouted to each other! Overpriced.

Fabulous and plentiful meal, made all the better by the very friendly and attentivel service of Amelia L! Her recommendations were incredible. We shall be returning!

A lovely looking village pub inside and out lovely staff had a lovely starter ordered fish and chips looked lovely when it came out excellent presentation however first bite of the fish tasted funny so tried the other end incase was a bad bit was the same eventually took the courage to smell it oh my what a smell I was very polite and discrete in telling the server it was bad and to smell it came back saying chef says it’s fine unbelievable it stunk then asked if I’d like another one or something else with that taste in my mouth and smell up my nose no thanks even charged us for it.there’s no point in replying to this message as it would probably be lies anyway all you had to do was smell it come back say sorry it’s off and it stinks and that would have been the end of it

We booked a table for dinner. We were warmly greeted by staff on our arrival who were very efficient and friendly. The service and food was excellent. I had shin beef pie, colcannon mash and roasted veg with a lovely unctuous gravy. My partner had the seafood risotto which was beautifully cooked and bursting with flavour. Our waitress for the night was very attentive and really looked after us. W3 couldn't manage a pudding but had an excell3nt irish coffee to finish. All in all, a fabulous experience from start to finish in what is a cosy ,well run restaurant, at a very reasonable price. Highly recommended !!

Perfect place for a Sunday lunch, food was delicious. Staff were helpful and able to help when I called to amend my booking. The roasts were delicious, plenty of food, and tasty to book. Clear plates all round.

We hadn’t been here for a couple of years and we weren’t disappointed. There is a limited choice of the set menu but enough variety to make informed choices. The staff were very considerate and helpful, the service was excellent. The food was very good overall and everyone enjoyed their main courses. The napkins looked as though they were tea towels but we were told that they were linen. That was a minor point, we would definitely recommend a meal here in this welcoming and comfortable venue.

We came to the area for a family wedding & stayed at the Red Lion in East Hatton. Pretty village & the hotel was very welcoming, with a comfortable room. We had a great meal in the restaurant. Food was lovely & service was first class - our staff member Amelia F was so helpful & professional. Would definitely recommend this place to eat & stay.

Ha d good night staying at the Red Lion again. Dinner in the evening was great. Sea Bass with sea food risotto. Service was excellent even though they were busy with a birthday party and a hen night. Bar staff were attentive and friendly. The room was very comfortable but the windows need replacing. A god night.

Seven of us booked ahead for a family Mother's Day lunch. Apparently the two main chefs had not turned up and it was chaotic. We waited nearly an hour and a half for a cold starter and two hours for the meal. The beef was badly cooked and we sent two back. Two of us had almost cold Vegetable Wellingtons with watery gravy. The creme brulee wasn't set and was grainy and the Rhubarb and Custard Eton Mess was liquid and had hardly any meringue in it. No-one explained their staffing issue until we complained and no bread or complimentary drinks were offered during the long wait. We shall never return.

We booked a family meal for 11 in a private room and enjoyed ourselves from beginning to end. We all had a menu to pre-order from and whet our appetites with well before the day. Everything ran to plan. We had attentive, but not intrusive, service, the room was great, out of the way but we still felt connected, the food and service were all great. Very happy with the choice of venue, convenient for all who could make it, the surroundings and facilities were all that we wanted of them. Very happy to recommend and would certainly do it again.

Had a wonderful experience at The Red Lion recently. I can't tell you just how welcoming the staff are, gentleman behind the bar was so pleasant and genuinely made us feel so welcome, chatted about the different drink offerings and the plans for the future, felt like a proper old style country pub in all the best ways. Food was very tasty and looked immaculate. Had no idea until we left that it is owned by a brewery, had the feeling of an independently run place. Wish we lived closer but we will certainly be back when we can.

I asked if there was any possibility they could offer a cheese board with the desert menu for mothers day. Sadly they were unable to accommodate the request as they were too busy due to being mothers day. I guess some mothers are an inconvenience? Diabetes?

Visited in July 2023 had an amazing time. Food and service was brilliant. Unfortunately, this was not the case today. Booked the table for 12:00 arrived on time. Drinks ordered and the food by 12:15 no starters ordered got the roasts at 13:00 looked amazing, all six meals were cold. Sent back all of them to the kitchen. Nobody apologised. My mum was speaking and was rudley told that it would be taken care of it. Still no apology. Food arrived again, clearly microwaved every plate and now meat tough and still cold veg and yorkshire puddings. Never saw the lady again. We did get 30% off the bill but not once did anybody say sorry.

Heard good things so thought we’d head there mid week for dinner. No booking, turned up and received a very warm welcome. Service was incredibly friendly yet professional. Food was served promptly and was delicious. Lovely little pub and will definitely be back.

Excellent food, very good prompt friendly service. Good portion size and all freshly prepared. Lovely comfortable inviting decor. Lots of parking spaces and easy access. We shall be returning.

Christmas lunch - turkey was good. Veg was not great. One of us had beef wellington which was pretty bad, very dry and over cooked & beef was chewy, believe it was a mistake to offer something which needs careful cooking. However the service was good and young servers were very good.

Fabulous food and cannot recommend the homemade shortcrust pie enough. The Apple crumble pie was the best pudding I have ever tasted! Definitely worth a visit!

Had a meal here with my husband on a Friday evening. The food we had was great. It’s not often I go somewhere and love all three courses. I had the pumpkin and sage ravioli for start which was very nice, thai green curry for main which was fantastic - really spicy with lots of chopped chilli which is how I like it, and a sticky toffee and date pudding for dessert which was delicious and very light. My husband very much enjoyed his steak. Look forward to going back there again sometime.
