Great tasting chips and an awesome pie! Bob is the best!

Chips were greesy, very hard with hardly potatoe in side, cold and clearly been refried from a previous service. Couldnt eat them they went in the bin. Battered sausage was ok.

Fish fantastic, chips so and so , to be honest amd I will , freshly fried cod , okay its in the middle of the blooming conty , so probably frozen 1st , I can't fault the batter , mush peas where class its just the chips and I'm problem going out on a tangent here , fresh chips don't hold them and keep them , been to so many chippies over my lifetime that do this , never mind rant over , would I return again yes , just sort the chips out 😁

Hidden in a valley in Northamptonshire near Daventry, lies the Midlands largest canal and Boat Marina. Particularly popular with Traditional Working Boats, the canal is also home to Boat yards and a hire boat company. It is also famous for the annual Braunston Working Boats Festival attended by100's of bygone beautifully painted boats. After a long walk along its canal on any particular day, the Braunston Fishery in the village is a must stop on the way home. Amongst others, the Fish and Chips are freshly prepared while you wait. They're worth it.

This is a great little chip shop. Ordering ahead recommended. Cash only at the moment but cashpoint in the store down the hill. Closed on Mondays. Curry sauce yummy!

A good place for fish and chips, fried in dripping which may put some people off but does give a great flavour. Easy to access from the canal too if you've come by boat. Was cash only when we visited, so plan ahead.

Excellent freshly cooked Northern style fish and chips. I’m from Yorkshire so fish and chips cooked in dripping is a treat that I don’t normally get to eat unless I’m there, so I love to stop here when in this village. As good as last time. Big fish and so many chips I couldn’t finish them.

Great little chippy with friendly staff and the owner was happy to have a laugh and banter while food was being cooked. Sadly they don’t do beans or gravy which was a shame but the curry sauce was nice.

Food is cooked to order...which is great ....but often kebabs are not available even 45 mins after opening... Edit Jan 2020 Have improved problems with kebabs... All other food on menu is excellent and cooked fresh to order.... would give 5* if they opened a little later or more often at lunchtimes. Otherwise superb food and fabulous service.

Mixed doner kebab with chips was just awful. Ordered online and It was all piled on, the chips were soggy as a result. The chicken was red and was marinated in something that i've never had from any place that sells chicken doner meat. Honestly, it looked like something that was thrown on the street in town after a night out, then delivered to my doorstep, practically the entire meal was thrown away. I rang them up to be told that this is the way their chicken doner meat is marinated but failed to tell me what it was marinated in. I advised him i'd like to return it for something else or have a refund and both were refused because they won't send anyone to collect it when it was delivered and if i want a refund i would need to go through just eat (which is understandable). The man i spoke to sounded like he could care less that i was unhappy even though he was telling me if he could help he would, yet sending something else as a replacement wasn't possible...? He was just continously telling me that 'this is the way their kebab is.' Overall, absolutely awful food and terrible service, definitely will be avoiding in future.

One of the only traditional fish and chip shops in England that still cooks in beef dripping. Amazing quality food.

I could be biased as Braunston has many good things to see and do this chippy is number 2 on my list, batter always crisp and melts in your mouth, chips well cooked neither taste of other foods so that is a bonus. Accessible to everyone and lots of spots to sit and eat fish and chips in good areas. Thank you for serving decent fish and chips.

It was our first visit to the Fryer just the other weekend, even though we only live in a neighbouring village. Everything is fried in beef dripping, which is unfortunate for veggies and vegans, but in so good for omnivores. The batter on the succulent fish was crispy and tasty, the chips were soft and beautifully cooked - we even popped down to the canalside to enjoy them in the sun. Perfect.

Great fish & chips from a beautiful village chippy.

We are really lucky to have such a great chip shop within the village. They are so friendly and willing to accommodate any order even if it’s five minutes before close. The curry on a Tuesday night is a must!

Having recently moved to the village with my straight companion, Craig, we really fancied a bag of chips with gravy. However, we were heartbroken and shaken to discover a lack of gravy on the premises. Considering relocating to a neighbouring village with gravy.

Tastiest fish supper cooked traditionally in beef drippings. Best eaten fresh out of the fryer. We had ours down by the canal locks. Yum.

Truly awful, all the positive reviews most be from people who have never eaten chips before. Stale, refried, bitter tasting chips. Had to throw them away. I pointed out to the owner that the chips were refried and the oil was stale, he denied this and told me they were fresh. Avoid untill they get there act together.

As first time visitors we were extremely impressed. Our food was cooked to order in beef dripping, so much tastier than vegetable oil. This is not the nearest F&C shop to our home but the extra mileage is worth it.

We were moored on our narrow boat in Braunston and as there weren't many take-aways on our journey on the Grand Union canal, we took the opportunity. It is a tiny shop, easy to miss, at one end of the village. It opened at 4.30pm on a Tuesday, which was good for us. We both ordered cod and chips. We were going to order a large chips to share but the lady behind the fryer said that the regular chips would be enough and she was right! We also had mushy peas and a white roll. The fish batter was cooked in beef dripping and as a result was so crispy and flavoursome. The only thing I would point out are the photos of food on posters, which are not appetising in any way and would put you off ordering the dishes. However, the food was very good and is recommended for a reasonably priced take-away meal.

We made a 10 mile journey to try these fish and chips after reading reviews,the owners are very nice people I orderd cod chips and peas twice which were cooked fresh which took five minuets. We drove up the road to eat them and was not disappointed these are the best fish and chips we have had for along time the only one thing I would change is try to make the batter a little thinner although no a big problem.

Visiting our family on Saturday, to save cooking we visited this little fish shop. The lady and gentleman were very friendly and although they didn't have my wife's first choice of rock, they served a splendid haddock. In total we had three cod, two haddock and a huge sausage for little man. I do enjoy my fish and chips and must rate this among the very best. Served in boxes to keep them warm (and save washing up) the portions were good and very tasty indeed. 120 miles to travel but we will certainly have fish and chips from here again. Thank you for excellent food.

Our first visit to this chippy due to our not living in the area (we were passing through on the way home). Having seen the excellent reviews on Trip Advisor we called in and were not disappointed. Excellent fish and chips all cooked freshly to order with a friendly smile too. Definitely a worth a visit if you like fish and chips.

The most beautiful chips in the world. Everything is cooked traditionally in beef dripping, even the chips (beware vegetarians) but the result is just to die for. Try it you'll not be disappointed.Phone first, then arrive after 10 minutes, as all is cooked to order. This really is just how chippys should be, crispy, slightly browned and de,de, de le, lechious. The Braunston Fryer was always a great place to have fish and chips ,having not visited the shop for some 5 years we are really pleased to say that the new owner has kept up with the tradition. It is as well to order over the phone in advance, as each order is cooked individually. Pipping hot,crispy thin batter, covering white flakey Cod,chips fantastic.Check opening times as not open all week.Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!

If you're staying in Braunston, then a trip to the local chip shop is a must. Cooked to order, so may have to wait a while, but it is well worth it!

Best fish and chips I've had for a while, set in the high street, this take away cooks the produce fresh, and still manages a quick service. Definitely worth another visit.

W`eve been here many times, as it`s in our own vilage. It is a very small place, and as such, do not have a large selection of food immediately available. It`s therefore best to phone in advance in order to avoid dissapointment. We have often dropped by ad-hoc, and have had to settle for something we didn`t really want, especially when it`s been close to closiong time. However, this is a warning, and not a criticism. The food has always been good, and staff friendly. Definitley worth popping in! Also of not is that it isn`t open every day, Currently Wed & Thur- 4.30 till 8.30pm. Friday - 11.30am till 1.30pm and 4.30 till 9pm. Saturday - 11.30am till 1.30pm and 4.30 till 8.30pm
