Chef Ravi rose magnificently to the curry challenge! I managed to down about half my venison and prawn curries, served with rice and condiments, but luckily my companion finished his grilled skewer and demolished the rest. Terrific to have authentic Indian food available in Graffham (on special request). Bravo to the the White Horse for extending its excellent range.

We recently hosted a private event at the White Horse in Graffham for around 100 guests, and it was an absolutely flawless experience from start to finish. The service was impeccable, with every detail meticulously planned and executed. The canapés were fantastic, delighting all our guests with their exquisite flavors. The setting, overlooking the stunning South Downs, was second to none and provided a breathtaking backdrop for our event. Every need was discussed in advance, and the entire event exceeded our expectations in every way. We couldn’t have asked for a more seamless experience and wouldn’t hesitate to return. A huge thank you to the entire team at the White Horse for making our event truly unforgettable!

We stopped at this beautiful pub for a drink on a hot September day. The two members of staff that served us were friendly and welcoming. The building was beautifully decorated and the garden was a joy to sit in with parasols and a lovely view over the fields. We shared a tasty starter and enjoyed our visit very much.

Very disappointed, everything that made The White Horse so inviting now consists of rude staff, London prices and a select clientele that does not include locals or those looking for a simple summers afternoon drink…unless you want to sit in the car park. It takes very little effort to be polite and explain to former loyal customers that the place has changed and you have not walked into a formal event. A smile and a hello would be a good start.

Turned into an upper class snob association pub….. not at all the country pub it used to be. Apparently now you can only sit in the garden at a table NOT booked out if you’ve booked in to eat, if you want to have just a drink you must sit out the front….told this after drinks were purchased. Such a shame. Used to be a lovely pub & now the complete opposite to what a country pub resembles. Rude staff who look down their nose because you don’t fit their ‘criteria’. Unless you have 20k in your pocket I don’t recommend.

We saw an advertisement in Sussex Life magazine, thought it looked good, and weren't disappointed! First class food, wine, and service. The menu is compact but excellent. Give me a small but exquisitely prepared and cooked meal anyway over a wide choice of mediocre dishes. This is not a cheap place to eat, but the location, the ambience of the restaurant and most of all, the food provide excellent value. We shall definitely go there again.

The White Horse Restaurant is much more than just a restaurant. I stayed 3 nights in the luxuriously converted cowsheds. I received a warm welcome with a complimentary drink. The room was inviting, spacious and an oasis of tranquility with views of the South Downs and fields. Housekeeping and the restaurant catered to my dietary requirements with attention to detail and ease. The staff were attentive and friendly. There is a converted horse box café by the road serving warm and cold drinks, (wine, beer and gin available) with a selection of sweet offerings. Such a good idea! A very friendly place for a quick stop in the sun. I felt pampered and relaxed. It made for a good break away.

We have visited this restaurant several times, and cannot praise it highly enough. From start to finish, the quality of service and attention to detail is perfect. The dining room is charming and simply decorated. The menu is thoughtful, with daily specials, and is excellent throughout. The dishes are beautifully prepared and served by attentive staff. The wine list is short but comprehensive with a good number of excellent wines by the glass.

Today was our first visit to The White Horse, I’d been looking forward to dining here for a while and it did not disappoint! The food was absolutely gorgeous, the best meal I’ve had out in a while! They had specials available for all three courses and used all local produce, even down to the still water by South Downs water. The service was impeccable, I believe Alicia served us, she was brilliant! Helpful, attentive and friendly with a lovely smile. Lunch with friends to celebrate a birthday. Lovely ambiance and decor with a very warm welcome. Delicious, well-presented food with good wine choices for all budgets (including by the glass). Attentive, relaxed and well-informed staff. A very special mention to Will who took time to chat and oversaw the service impecably. We travelled down from Hampshire and it was so worth the trip. There is no doubt that we will be back in the near future - reading other reviews would like to stay over and try the breakfast too! What can I say?! I have never left a review before but on this occasion it has to be done. The White Horse showed hospitality at its very best, a rare find these days! From having our luggage collected on return from our walk to cosy, warm, immaculate, beautifully decorated rooms. Dinner was out of this world, 3 stunning courses for the 4 of us with beautiful wines recommended to accompany the meal. Drinks before dinner were a delight and the bar had the perfect ambiance. The attention to detail from all the staff shone through so a huge thank you to you all, especially the front of house. Working in hospitality myself, I really appreciate all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes so huge thanks to all those staff too, from the chefs and kitchen porters to the cleaners and gardeners! Not sure I can add much more other than The White Horse is definitely 5 stars and more and we’ll definitely be returning.

We had a fantastic Sunday lunch. In addition to the delicious traditional Sunday roasts of beef and lamb with very tasty side dishes we enjoyed the Dover sole - a very generous size - perfectly cooked, as well as the lobster cocktail which was an unexpected treat. I must give too many 5 stars , this deserves more, 6? We stayed 2 nights and ate dinner in the restaurant once. Really friendly, efficient service. Well appointed accommodation, good attention to detail. Quiet and dark no tiny red lights! Breakfast just right, good selection. A focus on British and local. How could it be improved? a bigger bed? US friends, don’t forget that our King size beds are your Doubles, you’d need to have a Super King in this country to get an equivalent of your King Size . I can’t now appreciate the subtleties of the wines although I enjoyed overhearing the introductions to the wines served at a neighbouring table given by a knowledgeable member of staff! I’d prefer slightly lower priced options. Already been asked for details from friends. Wonderful for a short break, very close to Petworth House, amazing art work and grounds. Great Christmas decorations in Petworth House and the White Horse!! I’ll stop for now, go yourself!

My wife and I and two close friends enjoyed an exceptional evening at The White Horse last Saturday. We had cheekily requested lobsters on the booking platform as this was not on the published menu, although we had enjoyed it a few weeks earlier and it had been superb. From the moment we arrived the welcome was friendly and professional, the service was top notch and the food was above and beyond expectations. We started with a selection of the bar snack 'tapas' dishes, which are all beautifully prepared and make a perfect accompaniment to the Chablis.1ere Cru. One of our friends chose Hake and the rest of us shared 2 lobsters. I have no idea how Chef Grant manages to make the lobster so full of flavour and so tender but suffice it to say that it was as good as, if not better, than Scotts. We were served throughout by Alex who could not have been more attentive and professional, however, we may have overstayed as we were enjoying the experience so much. Thank you for a top drawer evening and we will certainly be back many times.

From the warm welcome on arrival and the outstanding North Downs Negroni cocktails that we had as pre dinner drinks we know we were going to be in for a treat! While browsing Chef Du Cuisine Grant Jones' mouth-wateringly tempting menu the Vieux Telegraphe 2015 Chateauneuf-du-Pape caught my eye not least because it was fairly priced and at a considerably lower cost than many fine dining restaurants in London! We both chose the sea bass tartare with Bajan spice, followed by the scallops, English lamb, cheese course and blackberry tarte. Each dish executed perfectly but with a light touch that allowed the ingredients to sing. Provenance is everything here from the day boat sourced fish to the best cheese board I've seen in a long while! Being a wine lover as much as a food lover the wine list here is something really special. At the higher end there is an array of special bottles like the Vieux Telegraphe at the lower end there are fantastic value for money wines that over deliver on their price point. An example of this is the wonderful Savoie Chignin-Bergeron from the Berthollier Bros. A lightly oaked Roussanne that will change your mind about drinking red wine with cheese for ever! The final mind blowing food and wine pairing was a chilled English Ice Cider with Grant's signature blackberry tarte. I can't think of a more sublime combination of two such quintessentially English ingredients! The after dinner Martini needed no intro! Just perfection as was our whole dining experience at the magical White Horse Graffham!

We visited for the Sunday roast. It took about an hour for us to get our food (despite no starters) and I asked for apple sauce and extra gravy, but by the time it arrived my husband had finished eating. The food was perfectly fine, possibly good but combined with the poor service we didn't feel it was worth the £18pp. It took so long to clear our plates we ditched pudding and went elsewhere. The manager (guy in a bright coloured shirt) didn't seem fussed and even sat down to have a drink with some friends/customers.Would we eat here again? Yes, maybe. If there were no other options in the village I would give it a second chance and hope the service was better. For those worried about social distancing, it was very safe and spaced out.

We booked the White Horse to celebrate a birthday, and it was just the perfect night out. We could not fault all the measures they had taken to make us welcome and it felt so relaxed even though they were applying v strict social distancing/safety measures. Tables were very well spaced in the light and airy conservatory, with lovely views of surrounding countryside. The service throughout was incredible - warm, chatty, professional and their knowledge and enthusiasm for the menu options shone through. And then the food arrived. It was simply delicious! We shared tempura jalepeños with a salty, tangy blue cheese sauce - they were great, but the profiteroles with cheddar fondue are just the business, perfectly cooked, light and airy profiteroles and a rich dip - what a simple idea, but done expertly well. For mains, we had chicken and the lentil samosa - both dishes were cooked to perfection, crunchy veg, silky smooth purees, glossy sauces, crispy samosa pastry. Dessert menus often leave me uninspired and I often skip them, but not here - we were spoilt for choice. Both were great, but the earl grey creme brûlée with lemon shortbread & rich clotted cream ice cream stole the show. I have been raving about this place - it was the highlight of our birthday celebration weekend in Sussex. I will be thinking of excuses to go back there soon!

The duration of this stay was the definition of class & tranquility. Now as frequent guests, we were shown to our stunning room (number 6) with the shower over the bath. The room was absolutely immaculate. Spotless. Nothing in terms of cleaning quality was under par. We met the cleaner/chamber made who was absolutely lovely as well as outstanding at her job! The food is INCREDIBLE. The crab starter & the stilton profiteroles were 10/10 & the burger was good; perhaps lacking in some added extras to make it less dry. The cheese board & brownie we’re delicious. The single beds are outstandingly comfortable & the decor is tasteful & quirky. The staff at this place however are what makes it outstanding. Will, the manager, the lovely young waitress & the guy in the evening are all so good at their job. What a marvellous team. We booked in to the White Horse for Sunday lunch as we were staying at the nearby Graffham Camping & Caravanning Club site.Booking was easy and the communication responses very prompt. On the day we arrived just before our 1pm booking, we were asked to provide a contact and trace contact and offered hand sanitiser and the staff were all wearing face masks, as it was unfortunately inclement weather we were accommodated inside in their conservatory dining area. The pub is very well presented and the dining area has been suitably socially distanced with clearly marked areas on the floor supported by notices that give instructions regarding movement around the pub. Outside the garden area is again marked out and you enter and exit separately using a one way system. All of the staff are very attentive and once we were settled our drinks order was taken, it was clearly explained that all food and drink is brought to the table on a tray which is placed on a stand. You then have to take the drinks yourselves off of the tray and the same process is used for serving meals. The only criticisms are that my wife. my daughter and my sister-in-law, being vegetarian had very limited choice ie: one main course dish, there was the option to have starters and side dishes, but when you are paying the sort of prices charged here, we would expect more main course choice. We understand that the menu may have been reduced because of Covid, but in this day and age we would still expect at least two mains to be vegetarian. Being a Sunday there was no advertised vegetarian roast option either, my wife enquired and was told yes we can do a vegetarian roast but in fact it was just the vegetables with no meat, a vegetarian roast should include an alternative to the meat, ie: a nut roast, a Quorn roast or something more imaginative? My wife also asked if there was vegetarian gravy and was told yes, but compared to the unctuous meat gravy that my brother-in-law enjoyed with his roast beef dinner it was thin and watery. The second criticism concerns the lack of vegetarian options for the children's menu, we were told they could offer a child's roast, fish and chips or sausage and mash, however, once again no vegetarian sausages or a roast alternative were available, so my daughter just ended up with a bowl of chips!Being vegetarians my wife and daughter are used to having limited choices, 15 or 20 years ago it was a common problem, however, over the years things have improved, on Sunday it felt like we were back there, so they were both disappointed.I should say that those of us who were able to order from the menu did enjoy our meals and the staff were all very good.Hopefully as lockdown and the distancing measures are relaxed their menu can expand to cater more for those who do not eat meat or just like to have to opportunity to choose something different?

Like many of us I was wary about going to a pub for lunch but the chances of seeing a friend again after months of lockdown was too big a temptation. From the moment we arrived my fears were alleviated. The safety measures put in place have been carefully thought through. Tables in the garden (which by the way is one of the prettiest in West Sussex) have been laid out in such a way as to socially distance but without making it feel remotely uncomfortable. Will, as always, provided excellent service and the food was delicious. We both opted for a hamburger. Boring you might think but I have been hankering after a burger for months and neither my friend nor I were disappointed. Delicious skinny fries added to the overall enjoyment of a really lovely lunch. I cannot recommend this pub more highly.

Faultless. A charming country pub at the foot of the South Downs, which made something very special look effortless.Delicious food, beautifully presented and cooked to order: I enjoyed mackerel escabeche, cod with clams, chorizo and turnip, and then a date and apricot cake with various naughtinesses like caramelised banana. Everybody enjoyed their choices, with particular mention of the mushroom soup with roasted chestnuts, and the burger. My vegan daughter was delighted to be offered a choice of dishes - this was clearly not an issue. What made this such a special evening was the warmth of the welcome and the great service - I was genuinely able to relax as host, knowing that my guests were being looked after. It’s a tricky balance to achieve between warmth and unobtrusiveness, but Robin and Will got it spot on. And Will led the best rendition of Happy Birthday ever!

We were given a weekend away from our daughter & son in law as part of our Christmas present, and what a present it was. The welcome on arrival was wonderful, we were greeted like we were family, nothing was too much trouble. The setting is an old fashioned bar with a roaring fire in the hearth with a clean modern twist, very cosy and full of character. The staff ( I hesitate to call them staff as they were more than that) were attentive without being intrusive, the room we were shown to was clean, warm, comfortable and cosy, the bathroom was delightful and spacious, both rooms came with underfloor heating which was a joy as it was very cold outside. Here, comfort and caring is top of their agenda. We ate in their restaurant in the evening and the food was plentiful and cooked to perfection. We can recommend the mussels followed by their steak, no room for desert (shame). We will however be going back again. We can highly recommend this venue. The only problem I can foresee is not being able to get a room because it is so popular. Thank you Robyn and Will / see you soon.Ann & Adrian / London

A little off the beaten track but well worth the effort to get here. An interesting menu and good local beers (although the Hip Hop was a little past its sell by date when we visited). Would be a good place to come to on a warm summer's evening!

Stayed for one night, with my husband in the last weekend of October. This is a lovely Pub with first class amenities, great food, beautiful quiet rooms, and fantastic service.Perfect base to explore this beautiful corner of England.Everything was spotless clean. Comfortable bed and lovely countryside views from ours room windows. We had breakfast and dinner at the Pub and the food was delicious. The staff was always kind and helpful during all the time of our wonderful stay.We visited Bosham, Chichester, Petworth , all at an easy drive from White Horse.I can not recomend this place enough. My partner Took me here to celebrate a big birthday. A lovely place, our room was large with views to the front and rear. The meal was excellent but I think the best part is the welcome and the service. Will even sang happy birthday to me! The pub part is really cosy then the restaurant is separate. There could have been more choice on the menu but what we did have was delicious. The bed was very comfortable and it was so quiet there we slept well. Would definitely recommend it and we would hope to get back again.

Nestled at the foot of the downs this pub is picture postcard perfect and a very special location. Staff very smiley and funny, if a little over prescriptive on the dog front. It’s a very English beauty spot. Sadly, food on this day let them down. Roast pork that was dried out and no crackling, just floppy fat layer. Roast potatoes could hold a door open they were that rock hard. Shame, we had such high expectations. Couldn’t fault anything else about the venue, it’s pretty.

Just returned from a wonderful Bank Holiday weekend staying at The White Horse in Graffham. I don’t usually write reviews but was bowled over by the welcome we received and our lovely stay at this fantastic pub b&b; nestled just beneath the South Downs Way. Our room, in a beautifully converted old out building/stable block was really well appointed, very clean and had lots of nice touches; flowers from the pub garden, cold fresh milk for our tea and a really comfortable bed. Supper was utterly delicious, ditto breakfast (which sustained us for a 15 mile hike) and the service from Will, George and the team was exemplary; warm, friendly, proactive and helpful but not intrusive. It felt like we had gone to stay with old friends. Heartily recommend.

Sunday lunch on a walking day with 5 friends. This place had style - the staff were savvy and attentive; the place looked good; the seats were comfortable and well spaced. Good selection of drinks. The food was excellent. The only niggle was that service was a mite slow but more than compensated for by the view. We walked on to Midhurst refreshed.

Would recommend highly & look forward to returning again soon.

My husband and I have just been luckily enough to stay here for two nights. I was looking for a quiet getaway and was not disappointed! The room was beautiful with the most comfortable bed. Views were truly stunning and the food just amazing. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay just perfect. A special mention must go to Carys (apologies if that is not the correct spelling) who served us in the evening. She was attentive, informative but also really funny. Would highly recommend this place. Thank you for a perfect stay.

Stayed for 2 nights. Evening meals - both nights. Very comfortable room - lashings of hot water - underfloor hearing. Evening meals were fab - the asparagus and goats cheese starter was banging. Nice bar. Nice open wood fire. We were well looked after by all the staff. Location was great for our one day walk to the Bignor Roman Villa and back via the South Downs Way (the lovely bath was most welcome).

I have visited twice recently and had a wonderful meal! Our first meal was a Sunday roast, followed by a Friday night meal. The roast itself was wonderful and even though we turned up not long before the kitchen was due to close the staff were more than happy to have us! The food was wonderful and we had service with a smile which is then why we booked a few weeks later for a family dinner on a Friday night. We all had a wonderful meal where lovely drinks and food of wonderful portion sizes were served and the staff again were so wonderful and smiley. We all left saying what a wonderful evening it was with fantastic food and how great and smiley the staff were. (thank to Will and a very lovely and smiley waitress!). We will definitely recommend to friends and family and be back again soon ourselves! (also lovely beer and a wide range of gins).

Will is an outstanding host, very personable and thoughtfully attentive. Great gin selection with interesting local and more renowned brands. Enjoyed the variety of options on the wine list, also at reasonable prices. Food menu is largely English pub done well, with a few touches of more contemporary cuisine. Great quality and prices, the only reason we didn’t give it 5 stars is because the dishes didn’t quite have the complexity of flavour that some of the photos we saw online suggested. Lovely ambience and decor, loved the cosiness of the fire. We also stayed overnight and the rooms are very pleasant, with a comfy bed and nice touches such as the well presented tea/coffee tray.

Enjoyed Sunday lunch here again recently with family members. A cold, sunny day with great views while we ate lunch in the conservatory. Very busy restaurant, somewhat noisy due to a large family group. The service and the food was of a high standard, as usual. We enjoyed a mixture of dishes including roast chicken, roast beef, fish & chips as well as a specially prepared dish of vegetables for one of our vegetarian daughters. Highly recommended.

We chose the white horse as it was the perfect distance between Petersfield and Amberley on our SDW section. It turns out it was an excellent choice. Great food (evening meal and breakfast), great room and warm welcome from a pub well integrated into the local community.A true gem that deserves recognition. Would definitely recommend.

Had a very pleasant lunch here on Sunday. Often visited their previous pub in Petworth, so managed to find their latest operation after fellow Tripadvisors answered my query. The welcome was very good, great staff, nice location and tasteful restaurant set up. The food was as good as their last restaurant and we enjoyed a very good plate of charcuterie and a goats cheese mousse, followed by roast beef and roast pork. The meat was very flavoursome and the vegetables were cooked to perfection. All in all, worth the one hours drive to the restaurant.

So disappointed by this place . First visit and won’t be returning! Ordered Avo on sourdough with poached eggs . Asked for the eggs to be well done . It wasn’t sourdough but cheap white bread . Eggs were runny so asked them to redo . 2nd attempt the eggs were still runny so my partner ate it . Large coffees ordered and just a normal sized cheap mug and not very hot . £17 totally wasted . We also ordered a croissant which was the only thing acceptable. Customer service - zero! Young staff who don’t care , smile or make u feel welcome . They need training asap or replacing . Us customers pay their wages - at least earn if . Doesn’t cost anything to be helpful or to smile . Will NOT be returning .

My wife’s aunt and cousin enthused about this pub so we decided to have lunch with them on a Thursday in November. The pub is signposted from the main road and is down a narrow lane to Chidham with passing places at intervals. The car park at the back is not so large so many visitors seem to park in the village. Virtually every table was taken which is always a good sign for mid week dining. The four of us had a variety off of dishes and my seafood tagliatelle was delicious. We were very impressed with the speed of service from the two lovely ladies and lively atmosphere of the pub. The portions are quite large so if you have a smaller appetite we would recommend their small portion menu. My wife’s cousin recommended the mussels which were not on the menu the day we visited so we must return to try them. A very enjoyable lunch catching up with old friends too.

Visited here for afternoon tea. Welcome was ok, but then we waited for a while to see if there was a free table. Bizarrely no one else was in the cafe and the upstairs service where we were seated was almost unfriendly and you felt you were in the way. When we asked for a spoon for our tea we were greeted with a huff and puff… Gets good reviews elsewhere, but sadly not from us..
