We were a party of 4 who have visited this pub on many occasions, mostly just for drinks, but very occasionally for Sunday lunch (which have been really good). On this occasion, and for the first time, we had an early evening meal. Three of us had the fish and chips (not exactly cheap at £13.95) and it was just pure batter. All 3 pieces of fish were little more than a wafer-thin piece of fish covered in a thick layer of batter. One of our party left the batter (with a thin layer of fish in), but I did eat mine as I was rather hungry. We were extremely disappointed by the extremely poor standard of the fish and chips. I have to say that, based on our meals, I cannot recommend the fish and chips. You have no idea what fish it is as you cannot taste any fish amongst a thick layer of batter. One of our party did complain and that meal was taken off the bill but we all left very disappointed and will never go there for a early evening meal again. I can see why the pub was almost empty on a Saturday evening... The quality of the food simply is not acceptable and it is such a pity that such a lovely pub lets itself down by the quality of the food.

A very nice looking pub / restaurant . Good car park .Pleasant surroundings inside . Pleasant staff . Great choice of real ales. There were four people in our party . Three ordered roast lamb and one ordered roast beef . The meal arrived promptly but that is just about the end of all the positive's . The vegetables or lack of them apart from the cauliflower cheese were very disappointing with the roast potatoes looking and tasting like they had been cooked to death the previous couple of days .Additionally, the minute carrots appeared to be tinned . The meat was so tough that all of us struggled to cut it with normal knifes. None of us in our party chose to have a sweet so no idea if they were any better than the awful main meal. If the meal had been half decent then the whole review would have been very different but let’s face it , the quality of the meal in a restaurant is all important so we won’t be repeating our visit.

This review summarizes the views and opinions of our party of five who ate Sunday lunch at The White Hart on 17 December 2023. Four of us are regular walkers, so we’ve visited a fair number of country pubs and sampled many good, average, and poor meals and beers over countless walks. On this occasion, we weren’t on a walk but booked a table at The White Hart for Sunday Lunch. Usually, we only stop for a beer during our walks in and around Iron Acton, so this was the first time we’ve eaten there. In short, wow! The Sunday lunch was a real treat with a unanimous group verdict: great quality and a generous portion representing excellent value for money at £13.95. All of us were highly impressed. The menu lists their beef as medium rare, but all members of our party prefer beef cooked closer to well done. We asked if they could accommodate that, and yes, no problem—they did, and the meat was in generous quantity and very tasty. The vegetables were also perfectly cooked: slightly crisp with lots of flavour, not overcooked mush, which so often masquerades as vegetables. Oh, and the (huge!) Yorkshire puddings were clearly homemade and delicious! Turning to the beer... The Cask Marque accreditation attached to the pumps caught our attention, so we tried their Butcombe, a firm favourite among some in our group. Oh my, we were not disappointed—one of the best pints of Butcombe I’ve ever had (and yes, that is quite a few...). A massive round of applause to whoever manages their cellar; they really know how to keep cask ale and do a great job! On top of this, the service was excellent, both at the bar and the staff who waited at the table. In conclusion, we absolutely and wholeheartedly recommend Sunday lunch at The White Hart—there’s no doubt we will eat there again.

We have recently just rediscovered this pub and really like it. However, today we popped in for a few games of pool and were having a lovely time until a group of older people in the corner started using racist slurs so the rest of the pub could hear. I confronted them and was told they were ‘just being honest’ and then they tried to back track and said they had been talking about their dog (the racist slur rhymes with dog, so this was VERY clever of them). Unfortunately for them I had heard them loud and clear, and they had also repeatedly referred to someone as a black b******. My complaint is that there was no management present and this behaviour was allowed to go unchecked - I don’t want to drink in a pub that openly allows this kind of behaviour. My children are dual heritage and I was personally very upset by the comments. Sad, as we were really starting to enjoy going here.

We were recommended this pub by our Air b&b host . Great recommendation. Very quiet little pub which we aren't used to but very nice and welcoming. Staff very friendly and service was spot on. We had the scotch egg which was lovely and warm with a soft middle, huge portion for a starter ! The lamb was so lovely and tender , nice size portion was very suprised ! My partner enjoyed his goats cheese tart .. Had no room for dessert. Thank you for a lovely meal!

Came for Sunday lunch, best thing was cauliflower cheese!Trio of roasts turned out to be tough beef x 2 & pork. Carrots tasted frozen, kale not cooked although parsnips & roast potatoes nice. Considering local green grocer provides veg opportunity to impress missed as veg was terrible. Veg option of mushroom, cranberry & Brie Wellington was lovely have to say. Yorkshire pudding was massive but burnt so did get a replacement, don’t usually bother but after tasting veg thought I needed to! The scampi, battered cod, plaice & sea bass all ok but veg either over or under cooked. Fish worth ordering unfortunately not Sunday roasts. Service quite slow, nice not to be hurried but the pub not busy. Quite dark inside where we sat & most staff friendly, again let down by one member being quite rude & got the feeling she didn’t really want to be there. What a waste of family time, money & food.

If you have been considering visiting The White Hart at Iron Acton for a meal, forget it. This Public House is an absolute disgrace, we visited recently for a Birthday celebration, the place was full of drunks, the landlady came to our table poorly dressed and stinking of cigarettes. The starters arrived, one of the party had the scotch egg, three of the party tasted it and it was deffinatatly off, smelt and tasted bad. When we informed the landlady there was not even an apology just got aggressive about it. The mains were very poor also and being a Greene King pub they should be taking the Blue Light card but they refused to take it and give us the 20% discount. Really don't go there, we feel we have been robbed of £167.00, we have had much better food for a fraction of the cost at Wetherspoons. If I could give this pub no stars I would but you don't get the option.

Not a good experience we had the Sunday roast, tinned carrots, rock hard potatoes and the one person that had a burger had to have it rare and apparently that’s how the chef cooks it. I asked for a refund of the burger and the waitress came over with an attitude like thunder because I didn’t want my nephew to eat raw meat, give this place a wide birth!

Visited with the wife for an evening meal, booking a table was very efficient over the phone. It was a Tuesday evening, and the weather was not good. Arrived and was given a choice of table. We ordered drinks before going to our selected table. We were give enough time to make our selection. We ordered a starter which we shared. The main courses arrived without too long await after finishing the starter. The food was well presented and was a large portion, and excellent value. Will definitely be returning to try some of the other items on the menu.

I was looking to arrange a family get-together for my brother's birthday with relatives coming from Somerset, Oxfordshire and other counties. It needed to be reasonably central and after a bit of Googling I came up with a list of options. The White Hart at Iron Acton was the only one that ticked all the boxes. I was looking for somewhere family friendly (ideally with outdoor play area), that also was dog friendly and could accommodate various dietary requirements.I spoke to Glenn and was immediately confident that I had found the right place. Nothing was too much trouble and he even ordered in a pudding especially for my daughter who has food allergies. We placed our order in advance from the extensive menu. There was pretty much anything you could ask for from Sunday lunch to pub favourites and also a fish menu. When the food arrived everything was exactly as we had ordered. The food was hot when it was served and my rare steak was cooked perfectly. The children's portions were particularly generous and the cauliflower cheese was very popular. The service was attentive but unobtrusive. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed her chocolate fudge cake and it is almost impossible to find a gluten and dairy free pudding when we go out to eat so it really made her day!We had brought a birthday cake with us and without us asking the staff brought out a cake knife and napkins. Everyone in our group had a really great time and I cannot recommend the White Hart at Iron Acton highly enough. Thanks so much to Glenn, Vicky and the team - looking forward to our next visit!

We booked for a family party well in advance and we also had to tell them what everyone wanted for main meal,so they should have been prepared..it was really bad service just one young girl on her own trying to serve everyone in the pub, it wasn’t her fault. The roast dinners were really poor, the lamb was just a dry over cooked lamb chop which 4 of us, I couldn’t eat mine, the beef was not much better Yorkshire’s were dry, 2 small roast potato’s were soft, 4 large dishes of cauliflower cheese we could have done with some more veg instead of cauliflower cheese..so if you go have the fast food(burgers etc) they can cook that, the starters were ok..the were desserts ok, mass produced. The only good thing about it was the garden for the kids.we will not be going back.

However, after understanding it had been taken over by new management, my daughter “tried it out” & was overwhelmed!! So, we decided to bring our family here for Sunday lunch last month & thoroughly enjoyed it!! The pub was clean, well staffed, the service was great & the food was lovely. Personally, I’m a vegetarian & found a tempting selection (which can be unusual in some venues!!) Absolutely no complaints about the menu, pricing or food from us - the fish menu was unique and the quality of food far exceeded expectations. Fresh, decent pub grub and generous portions. Lovely lemon posset for dessert enjoyed by my husband too. However, the chef/kitchen are let down by the staff. Waiting and bar staff came across as very inexperienced, slow, amateur and not very welcoming either. Combine that with the fact the place was virtually empty at 8pm on a weekday evening left the atmosphere somewhat lacking to say the least.

We visited the White Hart a few months back and wanted a "lite bite" which was delicious, so decided we would call in again to do the same with a view to looking at the full menu to book for us and our friends to visit the following week. Whilst ordering drinks I proceeded to look at the menus on the counter and selected the lite bites menu, was approached by two young members of staff who promptly informed me the menus available on a Sunday were the Sunday Roasts or Fish menu. I said that we were only looking for a snack so just took our drinks and sat in the garden enjoying the sunshine. Then a family arrived with their dog and were promptly brought out bowls of chips!!! If there are no lite bites on a Sunday we have no problem with that but don't serve others what we had asked for and surely those menus shouldn't be on the counter for people to look at.

Location nice (it was a sunny day) inside& garden nice, at first we thought how quiet it was for a sunny Sunday lunch time, menu read ok, 3 had roast beef which was cooked to our liking (states on menu cooked rare) which looked very nice on the plate BUT when you try and eat the beef tough is an understatement, veg was ok, 2 had belly pork which was ok, but they had no apple sauce, which should be a crime in its self. They did swap 2 of the beef for something else which was loads better, but which made our meals be eaten at different times (party of 7). Think where ever the pubs beef supplier is, they should be called, because how that beef was cooked it shouldn't of been tough

Came here for Mothering Sunday lunch. Only two of our party ordered roasts (one pork and one beef). Everyone's food came out in dribs and drabs so there was a fair bit of waiting around. One order wrong (had chips rather than skinny fries) but was sorted quickly enough. Food not very warm to start with so by the time we found where the condiments were kept (having not been offered them) most people's food was nearly cold.Person who ordered beef got theirs with large(ish) dish of cauliflower cheese but no other veg. I asked a waitress about the roast pork we were waiting for but she drifted off but and didn't come back so I eventually went to the bar where i was told that it would be looked into. i also asked about the lack of veg with the roast beef and was told that there should have been a side dish of veg (I'm guessing to share between two, alongside the cauliflower cheese).Eventually the pork came out along with the veg (the waitress did say "sorry about that") but it all took so long that the person eating beef had virtually finished his meal by then so wasn't too bothered about the veg and the other half of the cauliflower cheese was cold.Nobody came over to apologise for the mix ups or to ask how everything was. It wasn't as though the pub was even busy.

When we first entered the pub we were greeted by a lovely young man, he engaged in conversation with my husband talking about the rugby and how they were getting on in the season. The young lad was very polite through out the night, I feel very sorry for the poor waiter. 1st he was shouted at by the manger for doing something wrong, secondary he was screamed at by the chef/chefs in the kitchen and for me to hear that as a customer is very unpleasant. The service was a good pace but that can be understood when he is the only waiter on, he politely asked if we would like any sauces with our meals he got them straight away. When I called him over to say my steak was over cooked and I was missing the sausages and pineapple he said "I'm ever so sorry about this, I'll take it straight away and tell the chef" but to my amazement he was screamed at again for bringing the food back. He came over and said he is cooking you a fresh one, and is cooking you your sausages and your pineapple. The pork belly my husband had was very very dry and chewy it was almost like it was pre cooked and then put in a microwave. When we ordered dessert the young waiter was very patient as my husband could not decide and joked around with the young lad. He finally ordered and said they won't be to long to my amazement they we out within in minutes. All in all the waiter was the best one I had ever had, I've been to some posh places but he was the nicest and funniest waiter every. I WAS going to tip him a £10, but I asked did he get to keep it and his response will shock you, "it goes in a tin and I split out between the waiters and bar staff" so I decided not to give a tip as I think that is shocking how I am tipping him for his service and he isn't even aloud to keep it to himself

Visited today with my gf's family and friends. Despite being quite large group of people including few dogs laying around tables, waitresses did well to take care of us all. My steak, although asked for medium rare, was pretty much well done. In all fairness food was prepared for same time and one waitress just couldn't take it all so my steak continued cooking on plate. Fortunately it was nicely seasoned so I didn't mind that much. Little shame that not everything is homemade (onion rings, mash). But overall our visit was nice n enjoyed by all

Each year I book a Christmas lunch for a group of us who used to work together. This year we decided to go early and we chose the White Horse at Iron Acton. Joanne, the events manager there, was a great help to me in getting it organised. We were warmly welcomed - the landlord had just lit a huge log fire in the bar.Our group was seated in the Class Room with another party. Its a good sized, pleasant room, plenty of space for us all.The waiting staff were friendly and efficient. This was the best menu for choice in the local area and it was a very reasonable price. The food was delicious. Everyone was happy. We will be back!

This is my first visit to the White Hart thanks to friends recommending it. We had an early pre booked xmas 3 course meal there for £14.99 and it was worth every penny! Food came out hot and delivered quickly. It was plentiful and we all came out feeling rather full! So full to be exact 2 of our party could not eat their puddings and the wonderful staff very kindly took them away and boxed it up ready for us to bring home for the next day. Really friendly staff and felt very comfortable there being it our first visit there. We would definately return for another meal in the future. All our party thoroughly enjoyed themselves so give it a try and make up your own minds!

Having visited this pub before for a drink, I decided to visit it for Sunday Lunch with my partner, daughter and her boyfriend, overall, the visit was very enjoyable, friendly staff, good service and good food, but, as always you have to have a but, the food being very enjoyable, well cooked and presented, was spoilt for myself by being piled on the same plate, the presentation looks good but it does put me off, much prefer to have veggies served in a separate dish. Other than that, deserts were very good, wine list acceptable, although they didn't have what I asked for from their wine list, and the substitute was £7 dearer, overall, a good Sunday Lunch, but not cheap.

I agree with previous reviews that the new menu change is terrible, limited menu and no specials.. My meal was so bad I had to send it back, the cook came out and said she could cook me something else. Which I refused. The food was obviously pre cooked and re-heated or not as in my case ! The starter was barely warm! and the main meal veg was dry and cold. Not edible. Such a shame as we eat there quite often but feel that would be the last time.

There were 14 of us to cater for, the landlady made us all very welcome she dressed the table with balloons and banners that we'd taken in earlier in the day, the waitresses were excellent and patient with the children making their orders. The food all came together and was all piping hot, good quality and service would highly recommend.

Was not disappointed again with our visit back to Iron Acton. As always offered us lots of choose from. Another sunny day to enjoy the garden, a glass of bubbly, amazing burger and good company. The staff made us feel like it was our local.

Agree with other recent reviews. There has been a change of menu and there is no comparison to previous food - we were very disappointed.Such a shame, as a lovely pub (now for a drink only) in a pretty village. Is a nice beer garden with play feature for kids.Noticeable 3 negative reviews since change of menu have no management comment. If I served food I'd read reviews and immediately react to consistent negative feedback.

So very disappointed to return here after many lovely meals to find the menu had changed considerably - No more home made chips very disappointed . No more fresh bowls of salad with the burger just lettuce shoved in the bun . They used to ask how you would like your burger seems you just get it cremated now - will we be back not likely

Food was very disapponting, poorly presented, poorly cooked, steak pie resembled a 'puka pie, chicken overcooked and dry, stilton sauce very sloppy, salmon undercooked and sent back. Ran out of steaks and other specials (8.30) and the whole experience ruined the birthday celebrations and would definately not recommend eating there!!!

I have never written a poor review, but unfortunately the food was so bland and of poor quality i had to warn people from wasting their money. I ate from the specials menu, mackerel with horseradish, and that all it was, no accompaniment, no toast, nothing except two large pieces of smoked mackerel probably from tesco's. Our mains we equally as poor, bland tasteless, and by the look and texture, reheated, they hadn't even cleaned the veg, which was gritty to eat. Simply, i would never waste my money on the White Harts food again, dreadful!!!

we had an evening meal with our friends, two ordered steak, one hand battered fish and the other gammon. our meals were served on piping hot plates and cooked beautifully with extra chunky crisp chips and garnishes. would thoroughly recommend a visit for a laid back, relaxed atmosphere, good value for money

This pub serves great food and the portions are generous. A little off the beaten track, but the locals are happy with its location. There is always something tempting on the specials board.

Popped in for Sunday lunch recently, it was nice enough, the beef consisted of 3 thin slices arranged over the vegetables with a homemade yorkie,My mate had the lamb which again could have done with being a little larger- we opted to miss the starters but wish we hadn't. Portions could have been a little bigger. My partner had the chicken and to be fair it was a decent size.... My friend finished my partners leftovers! We enjoyed out meals but wouldn't rave on that they were amazing they were run of the mill pub fare.....

We stopped here as a break in our journey back home after a holiday in Wales. We both ordered the chicken and bacon club paninis, which were served with a lovely fresh salad, including a tasty dressing and the most delicious, fat, crispy chips. The pub garden was a very quiet, pleasant place to sit and has a play area for children. The prices seemed very reasonable and it was certainly a most pleasant alternative to motorway services.

I was taken here by friends. I did love the decor, which had been completed relatively recently following a refurbishment. The menu was good with a variety of options that were limited, which I think is good and tends to support freshly cooked on site.I opted for a starter on the basis that I really liked their dessert options. My plaice fillet starter was excellent and my request to make sure the chilli salsa tasted of chilli was met.My friends had the mixed fish main course which they enjoyed. Desserts, well her they excelled.Rhubarb brûlée, yum yum!Lemon tart, raspberries and liquorice meringue. OMG! Ice cream selection, good, coconut and rum, vanilla and chocolate.... Good. The staff were pleasant and attentive. Feedback: you have a good wine list but your staff should be able to offer comments and advice about matching wine to food or at least being able to describe or explain the wine. We actually had a superb Pinot noir which I would have again at any time. The choice was NOT aided or facilitated by your staff. S shame and my only real criticism.

I used to eat here once a month in the 60s/70's when it had a great reputation and Jack Stone was the owner, but despite being a relative local, I've not eaten here in the last 30 years. It is now a very different atmosphere than before, less intimidating and more friendly. I entertained 3 guests for lunch yesterday. Good menu, snacks, lunches and specials. We chose 4 different meals and all were enjoyed, the range of beers is good and they have been kept well. The service was not rushed, which was good as I was holding a pre-election campaign meeting. Friendly service and good banter from Madame. If you want good non-pretentious pub food, with value for money, then I can recommend The White Hart. I will certainly eat here again

This pub is on the frome way walk, and worth the call into after a walk from frampton cotterill .This pub is an oldie feel to it and has a dinning area and a bar with tables, also a patio with tables and the other end a garden with a play area and benches.there is a menu with reasonable meals and prices. We had a pot of tea before setting off back on a country road that was block to traffic(heaven) and also a nature walk by the river frome.

The White Hart was our choice for celebrating a special anniversary. We could not have found a better venue as it was perfect for the numbers we invited. We had a marvellous buffet with a wide choice and everything was delicious and well presented. Our guests had plenty to eat and went home happy. Joanne and all the staff were attentive, friendly and professional. We would like to say a very big THANK YOU to the White Hart for giving us such a lovely afternoon.

Came here several weeks ago, just had to return. Tried the Beef & Ale pie with chips. Brings a whole new meaning to 'pie & chips' the large pieces of tender beef, no fat no gristle in a rich beefy gravy surrounded by tasty pastry served with hand cut home made chips & peas, beautiful. Followed by home made delicious bread & butter pudding & custard, yummy. We will return again.

With 27 other people I was looking forward to a lovely evening. We were offered a choice of meals from a limited menu in advance to choose from which was perfectly acceptable but what was not acceptable was the quality of food on the night. I started the evening with the Prawn Cocktail. The sauce was too strong and there was too much of it, plus the white roll (traditionally should be brown bread!) served with it was not fresh - and we had to ask for butter as none given which was rock hard when they brought it out. Usually a prawn cocktail is served in a dish but this with the roll and bit of salad was on a dinner plate - very strange! I next had the Hunters Chicken. The sauce was very acidic and the cheese was the consistency of a processed cheese slice, not slices of a West Country cheddar (I know my cheeses!). Usually you would get frozen peas which is absolutely fine. The peas served in this case were those tiny cheap and nasty ones you would buy for about 9p in Lidl. I finished off with the Trifle and again a disappointment. The custard was definitely not made by the chef but tasted like that very cheap and nasty tinned or packet stuff, the fruit was again like cheap tinned fruit cocktail that has "hard" fruit in it and the overall taste was tasteless so had to leave it. The only good thing about my meal was the chips which were absolutely fabulous - never had chips like them before. Of course slightly ruined by the fact they have to overload all the plates with them to make it look like you have a huge dinner when in fact half of your plate is filled with chips!! There were various other comments which included the fishcakes. One of our party had eaten these before on a different occasion and said the quality on our party night was very poor compared to her previous visit. Some had the steak & ale pie and the opinion was these were like shop bought rather than homemade. Other comments were about the trio of ice creams which again were tasteless and like the cheapest basic ones you'd buy in a shop. In fact we held a "blindfold" taste test and no-one could tell what flavour each of the trio were. The brownies were also terrible, being rock-hard and not very tasty. The cheeseboard did look impressive in presentation but why say chutney when it was just ordinary basic pickle. These are the things I remember but I think there was one or two other things that weren't right. Unfortunately White Hart stating "we are proud of the fact "Home Cooked and Home Made" is exactly what we do" but then not delivering has resulted in some of our party stating "we won't ever eat there again". If you say your food is home cooked and home made then why doesn't it taste like that?? Not very tasty and cheap ingredients seemingly used.

Our family uses this pub on occasions when we want refinement and a comfy space. It is large with several nooks and crannies for groups to occupy different areas away from the bar congregation. The food is very good, the three real ales are well kept, and there is a wonderful collection of malt whiskeys. The landlady is scottish and she can describe all of them and recommend ones to your taste. There is also a large garden with good quality childrens play equipment. Set in a lovely village only a couple of miles out of Yate.

Had the festive menu, after a very long wait, thought because the food was preordered we wouldn't have to wait so long. Wish the sprouts were cooked longer, and potatoes with the sea bass weren't cooked. Was compensated for this though. Enjoyed the puds.

although the building looks run down and the shop out dated, the food is quite fresh tastes ok and is reasonably priced, however besides one blonde lady the staff are rude and quite short. they are supposed to close at 4 but normally are closed by about 3:50. the donut selection is random I never know what they will or wont have id go greggs if it was closer

Visited here for dinner on 11/09 during a walking holiday. Nice decor and welcoming staff. I had a pint of Gem, and was able to use (their only) beer jug! Wine list was good and the pinot blush was approved by my partner. Starter portions were good, the pork bites were very nice as was the Bruschetta, then I had the burger and she had the Gnocchi. Both were good sized portions and very tasty! It was so friendly we popped back for a pint the following lunchtime and were recognised as soon as we walked in!
