Had Sunday Dinner with family recently and the roast dinners were stone cold including the gravy. To be fair the waiting staff did ask if everything was alright and I didn’t say anything as the meal was being paid for by a family member and I didn’t want to cause a fuss but they do need to ensure all the meals are put out on the pass at the same time as some meals were hot and others weren’t. It’s a shame because the food was ok but wouldn’t have been better if served hot. I also have to say that the waiting staff need more training as one of the young waitresses wasn’t very friendly at all plus not sure she knew anything about what she was actually serving e.g. said the vegetarian wellington was a beef wellington initially but didn’t apologise or acknowledge when we queried the dish. All in all I would return but there’s room for improvement.

We cancelled the Alton towers hotel and booked this as it had great feedback and wanted to stay off the beaten track. Our first impression was good. The staff were friendly, hotel was new and modern, yet it has kept a country feel. Unfortunately there was a wedding party and the music did keep us awake for one night. However, breakfast was nice and hot and cooked fresh. The dinner was very lovely. There are only a few niggles that would make a difference. I would prefer to have coffee I could help myself to. I don't like to keep asking for things. Everywhere was clean and tidy and everyone seemed very helpful. The setting is lovely, with lots of outside space. The room we are in is clean and newly designed with wooden furniture. Again very clean and a lovely welcome tray which was refilled on our second day( biscuits as well). It is well positions for walking around the Peak District as only 15 - 20 minutes from Matlock. We walked to Bakewell from there and back again. We were also close to Alton towers for one of the 3 nights we stayed. A great setting for exploring the area. staff were very welcoming and friendly. Nothing was to much trouble. I did see a review complaining about dogs. We saw a few dogs in the bar throughout our stay and all were very well behaved and the owners did not let them near people who were eating. To be realistic , it is in the countryside, and to have locals with their well behaved pets use the bar should In still confidence. Anyway back to the food. The menu seemed to covered most needs. Everything was just right. We did have a pudding as the main was so nice . The pudding of Bakewell tart was also brilliant. We would definately return as it was a memorable trip. I will make sure to ring in advance to make sure there isn’t a wedding on. Thanks to all.

A genuine review of our Saturday date night at Fork and Furness. Booked in advance for a table in the restaurant and seated in the doorway of the bar area on high chairs. It wasn't the comfiest but it was ok and tbf I didn't ask for an alternative. Waitress was a big naggy for us to order food when we hadn't even ordered drinks or had chance to look at the menu. Also waitress wasn't great on the advice when we asked for more info on dishes and gave very different information to us than to nearby table. Ordered prosecco which was brought and fine but not poured. Ordered the small plates- croquettes amazing especially the tomato sauce, calamari looked anaemic but tasted fab. fish cakes not great- very eggy and chewy, caprese salad- very nice and a good temperature as can sometimes be too cold, rump steak dish- lovely well cooked steak not sure about the amount of accompanying salad as it was a bit chewy and seemed a bit unbalanced. Belly pork- seemed like pulled pork which was also on the menu so not sure if they got it wrong, this dish was alright. Afters- husband ordered cheeses but no port stocked so had dessert wine which he enjoyed. I had brownie- yummy but fridge cold, needed warming up. We considered coffee or another drink but no one came. We eventually went to till to pay. cost £96 so not cheap but about the average now probably. We live within walking distance but haven't been for a while and although it was nice enough there are definitely better restaurants in the area so we wouldnt rush back.

What can I say about this place, from the stunning view of approach, to the food and drinks we enjoyed! Heard a lot about the hype of this venue after originally choosing the horse and jockey just down the road we changed our minds and so glad we did !! The staff are amazing and “Jess K “ who was behind the bar at the time couldn’t do enough for us (not that we asked for much as just been general customers).. We had 3 “small plates” as starters and then 2 ribeye steaks for mains and everything as top notch.. and then came the bill… £141.30 and we expected it to be far more! Highly recommend this venue and we will be back ☺️

My daughter granddaughter and I went for lunch. It was a rainy day and I held open the door for my family to enter ahead of me. As my three year old granddaughter walked in she was attacked by an out of control dog which leapt at her face from under an adjacent table, baring teeth and growling and showing intent to bite. She had not touched beckoned to or approached this animal.Luckily we were able to intervene. This was not necessary the fault of the establishment but nonetheless not what I was expecting. No one asked if my granddaughter was hurt or ok and no attempt was made to leash or remove the dog and the ignorant woman owner made no attempt to apologise. I am still awaiting a call from the manager.

Couldn’t have asked for more in the room - very clean, spacious, Juliette balcony with stunning views, very comfortable bed, tasteful decor, large bathroom with a spa corner bath and walk-in shower. Complimentary hot drinks, biscuits, shower gel etc., mini fridge, hairdryer, iron, dressing gown and slippers. We missed breakfast so can’t comment on that, but will definitely be back! Cosy pub serving food and drinks. Plenty of free parking too.

I dont like writing terrible review however this one i feel i need to share. So we visited on a friday evening after prebooking our table for 7pm. what a stunning restaurant the decor is amazing and extrmely clean. We arrived promptly at 6.58pm and seated straight away and from here on out its all downhill. We were given menus straight away and then just left to our own devices, now this is fine however no one asked if we wanted a drink. This took a whole twenty minuites and it took my partner 3 attempts to flag down a waitress/ waiter. Now this is a shout out to the young lad who made cocktails, you were amazing and your cocktails were sublime. You are the one and only member of the team who actually bothered with us, i think i had every cocktail on the menu and you made every single one and they were all amazing. You were amazing so a massive thank you, the only reason i didnt tip you was becasuse you told me all tips get shared out and quite frankily no one else deserved it apart from you. So im a little upset you wasnt able to take it. Now on to the food. So overall the food itself was amaazing, beautifully presented and hot. The pie was incredible. Your chef is amazing a shout out to him. Well done sir your food is amazing. Desert not so great, the cheese board was in a word, rubbish. It definetly wasnt worth £9.50 cheddar, bree, crackers and a few grapes and an apple. Not great The tiramsu was lovely but not to my taste. The sponge pudding was dry and cold the custard was like watee but i fear this wasnt down to the chef. This was down to how long it was waiting to be brough to the table. This bring me to service. Umm what service? There literally wasnt any, we were left to our own devices not asked once if we wanted a drink. No one asked how the food was. The wait between courses was a sham. We waited 20 minuites to order food, it took a furthur 40 minuites to get our starter and then an hour between the starter and main course. And then a furthur 30 minuites for desert..Now while i appreciate the fact you might this oh it must have been busy, wrong there was 4 other tables and 2 of these tables were also unhappy so much so the group of 4 gave up on waiting for desert and then was offered a free round of drinks. The grouo of 3 on the table nect to us asked twice for there main course and were extremley disspoinyed with the response from the waitress..Meanwhile we were still waiting for desert. Now before anyone thinks it, i work in the reastuarnt industry and i have done for several years, if my customers left unhappy id be extremely dissapointed. Not once was we asked if we needed anything or if everything was ok, my partner asked for the bill 4 times and he still ended up going to the bar to be waiting 10 minuites to be served There was absolutley no service at all which is such a shame because the food was amazing. The service really does let this place down and This alone has put us off revisiting. Overall amazing food and cocktails but such a shame about the service or lack of.

We went down to the restaurant for an evening meal and were left standing at the bar for 5 minutes. Nobody came to greet us so I got the girls attention and said that we had a reservation. She showed us to a table that wasn't even set. Our drinks were served quickly. Then we were left with the food menu for around 30 minutes. I had to get up and ask someone to take our order. We felt like we were invisible. Then we waited another 45 minutes just for our mains to arrive. We were very close to walking out. We had breakfast included with our stay and hoped it would be better. When we arrived there were no cereals or selection of fresh fruits. There were 2 cold cinnamon swirls. I asked for a coissant and she said that it would take 20 mins to cook which confused me as they were not homemade. We also had to ask for to tea and coffee to be refilled. My boyfriend didn't even have a cup or cutlery set on the table which again we had to ask for. He got the full English which was disappointing, eggs undercooked, poor quality sausage and only half a black pudding. I got the eggs benedict and the smell of the hollandaise sauce knocked me sick - it was like vinger. The ham was cut too thick and full of fat. The poached eggs were also undercooked. I told the waitress and she said that's the way it is and didn't offer me an alternative. Overall a very poor experience and shocking service. We will not be returning here again.

A tale of 2 halves we have visited twice in the past 3 weeks our first experience I was wow'd from the moment I walked through the door excellent service from the 2 members of staff serving excellent cocktail making, excellent food from the canapé through to our starters of crispy pork belly and crispy egg and our mains heart of beef rump and dessert vanilla brulee with shortbread, walked out glad to recommend it to anyone will listen fast forward to 13th Feb booked the 25% off food offer walked in to a very loud large group and was told we could sit right next to them or in the bar.....the rest of the restaurant was empty we chose the bar but the noise was unbearable so I asked if we could move down to the bottom of the restaurant and was greeted with a suppose so attitude of the guy serving us and walked off so we moved much nicer we were happy, we ordered the pork belly starter again because it was so nice and pig cheek starter followed by the rib eye steak and the heart of beef rump again because it was so nice, and this is where the wheels came off the pork belly was burnt on the bottom and not at all crispy on the top but hey its only the starter I am here for the main event, the rib eye was more fat than meat chips were undercooked and the peppercorn sauce was more a liquid jus with no hint of peppercorn the heart of rump with roasted carrots was cold I asked the lovely lady also serving if it was supposed to be cold she said no took it away and said ill have a new one made up, perfect otherhalf eats his 10 mins nothing, 15 mins nothing 20 mins the other half has finished and I still have nothing 25 mins later the waiter comes to clear the plates away asks if we enjoyed our meal...errrm I am still waiting for mine mate. Oh ill see where it is 5 mind later it arrives. It was hot and it was nice but should it have taken that long I don't think so, they did offer a free drink whilst I waited but on a school night and driving isn't really good when the main eventually came they said they would take it off the bill. We ordered the tiramasu and cheese board, as last time the tiramasu sold out when it came it was 2 tiny peices of sponge hidden in mascapone cream no coffee flavor or anything I left it when they came ro clear away I did say it wasn't right and was greeted with a dear. Such a shame I hope its because the chef was pre occupied with getting ready for the valentines day event they are putting on, not sure how it could change so much within such a small time frame. We will probably leave visiting again for a while but I hope it picks up before we attend a family wedding there later in the year. photos of first visit and some of our second,

We visited The Fork & Furrow yesterday with a family friend for Sunday lunch. The table was booked for 1.00pm so we were surprised to find that there were only 2 other tables occupied. We got our drinks very quickly and ordered our food. Nothing appealed to any of us on the starters menu so we decided to go for a mains and dessert. We ordered the food and waited and waited and waited. In my opinion, there really should be some appetisers on the menu for people not wanting starters if the mains are going to take so long to come through from the kitchen. On the menu it says the beef is cooked pink but mine was bloody and because it had not been left to rest long enough, the blood was running into my mashed potato. The pork my friend ordered was actually a large pork chop without the bone, but she struggled to eat it without a steak knife so we took it home for the dogs. We also missed pigs in blankets not being offered as an additional extra, which is quite standard in most restaurants these days for Sunday lunch. Apart from the above though, we loved the new decor, the staff were all lovely too and the rest of our food was amazing!

Used to come hear all the time food was fantastic nice atmosphere and good value, not cheap but definitely good value. Now it’s the fork and furrow the food is still fantastic but it’s lost it’s atmosphere and the service is shocking, the prices have gone through the roof and the portion sizes have shrunk. For example, Sunday roast great but no better than it used to be £21 and if you want coliflower cheese that’s an extra £7 for 1 portion. Dessert £9 chocolate moose, the whole thing fit on a dessert spoon and it came with a tea spoon of sorbet. Again very nice but nothing that special. I don’t mind paying those sorts of prices for good food but they need to be accompanied buy good service and nice atmosphere and it just wasn’t. Another example my wife asked for a glass of Sauvignon blanc and the guy replied “what do you want that for? We have a really nice French wine that’s much better” Unfortunately we don’t like the new look white heart so we’ll be looking for somewhere new ☹️

We love the quality of the food you receive at the Fork and Furrow - and the Sunday roasts are fantastic. Anyone who used to eat at The Dog will know how good they were under this chef and I think they’ve got even better. The beef was so soft and tender and the portions excellent. Highly recommend the parfait starter too! £30 each for 2 courses and a drink seems a perfectly fair price to me for the quality/ portion you get. I don’t recommend the puddings, they’re expensive for a small portion. Sometimes the atmosphere is a bit dead too, it would be nice to have more vibrancy - It’s just a bit dark with no light and very quiet. But even so we look forward to our next visit.

Went for dinner, the prices seem to be going upmarket, but the food was tasty and well cooked, although I'm not a fan of food piled up like a little narrow skyscraper on my plate. Why must they pile everything up in one spot anyway? I came away thinking perhaps I should have ordered 2 dinners to fill the plate up. Mind you, at least it was a clean, warm white plate, not a flip flop or roofing slate like some places. But I digress, overall a nice meal. What shook me a bit- a pint of diet coke at the bar was £3.40, we then sat down and ordered dinner and was innocuously asked if we would like some water on the table. Fair enough, but found out I was charged £4.50 for a pint of water!! Is that being imported from Ukraine as well? Seems to be the main excuse for excessive price rises. So beware the extras if you don't like being robbed. At least Dick Turpin wore a mask!

My husband and I went for something to eat here a couple of days ago. We will not be going back. We loved The White Hart pub previously, the food was always hearty with good portion sizes and reasonable prices, what happened?! The place was trying to compete with A la Carte standard restaurants (Stones in Matlock for example) but didn’t have any where near the quality, it came across as being pretentious. The food was very expensive (£20 for a main course) which was ‘okay’ at best. Trying to be all style with no substance. Such a shame because The White Hart was one of our favourite local pubs to eat in.

As the title suggests, the dining experience was “okay”. Myself and my family (5 of us in total) went for a Sunday roast a few weeks ago. We turned up 15 minutes early to be told by the staff member on the front of house “Wow, you are very early!” - I would suggest 15 minutes before the booked slot is not “very” early. We were then told the table was not ready, despite a table for 6 clearly being visibly ready in the restaurant and no other tables for 6 people set up in the restaurant. We were told to take a seat and order a drink, 10 minutes later, front of house staff member came back and said “your table is ready now”. Guess what?…. We were lead to the empty table for 6 which we spotted earlier. It seemed as though the staff member had done this out of principle. After this, service was slow at best. However, this was not for the lack of staff, with 4 servers catering for a quite small restaurant. They just did not seem to have much or a rush or attentiveness about them. The food was ordered and with no starters ordered, just mains, the wait was still around 45 minutes. When the food came it wasn’t too bad, but the mashed potatoes were cold, the sharing vegetables were fairly rationed for 6 people - it felt like there should have been another set of vegetables/roast potatoes, and when extra gravy was asked for, this was acknowledged by the server but never arrived. With dinners being completely eaten before she realised. We were also never asked how our food was or if it was satisfactory, it’s not a massive deal but when somewhere has rebranded theirselves as a “fine dining” restaurant, it’s the small details that matter. Overall I would say the whole experience needs polishing slightly. It’s all well and good having nice food, but you’ve got to have the service to boot. Out of 10 this would have probably been a 5. Previously down from a 7, maybe 8 before the refurbishment and rebranding.

My partner & I had Sunday lunch here after wanting to visit for a few week. We’d just been for a lovely morning walk so were definitely ready for it. We were greeted on arrival and were sat at the very back of the restaurant, which wouldn’t have been my choice as there was no natural light & the restaurant was pretty empty at this point. I’ll ask to move tables next time for sure. We both ordered some water & half of the golden ale, which was rather good. We then ordered just mains, the lamb & the hake. My partner said the lamb was good but the kofta was dry. Although the hake skin wasn’t crisped up it was delicious as were the pickled mussels & mash. I felt the fillet of hake couldn’t been bigger, it was rather small. The service was generally ok & friendly, however, it seemed a bit disjointed at times with some confusion about who was dealing with us. Price point wise, I feel it was a little high for just good food & service. I expected exceptional, it did not bowl me over. The restaurant is in a wonderful location & the wildflower seeds were a nice touch!

Visited The White Hart with friends on a Friday evening. Our table was booked for 7.30 & the restaurant was already busy so I would recommend booking. The restaurant is large & was pretty noisy so not somewhere I would suggest for a quiet meal. Situated on a country road with a large car park, not difficult to find. Plenty of choice on the menu with at least three vegetarian options. Our food order was taken quickly although we did have to ask for the “specials” board despite being told it would be brought to our table. It took well over half an hour before our food arrived however, not a major problem as we were enjoying the company of our friends but I would not expect to wait as long as this for food.I had the Christmas dinner style roast turkey served with roast & mashed potatoes, carrots & parsnips. Turkey was ok, stuffing very dry & no green veg which would have been nice in my opinion. My partner had the pie of the day & one of our friends the vegetarian pie. Both said the filling was good but the pastry was so tough it was difficult to cut through. Perhaps it had been hanging around on the pass for too long? Chips that came with the pie were average. Desserts were ok.When we came to pay the bill, we had been overcharged by £8. This was rectified without problem but just added to what was already a disappointing meal.Service was good, however I did not get the impression there was anyone in overall charge with the staff doing everything ranging from serving at the bar to waiting tables. In summary a very average dining experience, a shame as I do feel The White Hart could do so much better.

Where can I start. This was one of the worst meals we have ever had. So bad that we left without eating it. We arrived for our 2 o’clock booking today (15 December). The restaurant was very busy and our table was not ready so we waited about 10 minutes. Up to this point all ok. We sat down and ordered our meals. 4 roast beef, one with the beef not pink. Well 3 meals arrived and the other one about 5 minutes later. At this point it all started to go wrong. My wife’s beef was in fact lamb, the not pink beef was almost cremated, and the other beef was to say the least not very tender, the roast potatoes were cold, the cauliflower in the cauliflower cheese was so undercooked that I could not even cut through it with a knife, the sprouts were undercooked. We raised this with the waiting staff who agreed that they would take the meals away and redo them correctly from scratch. The manager came over and offered us a complementary drink and was very apologetic. After about another 10 minutes the meals were served again. However with the exception of the roast potatoes now being hot the meals were all awful. The cauliflower and sprouts were again significantly undercooked (the cauliflower was almost raw) the roasted vegetables were soggy, and the roast beef was so tough we could not eat it. The not pink beef was almost cremated. We complained again and said that we were unable to eat it. At this point were were told that we would not be charged for the food. However at this stage we were offered a steak knives to cut through the roast beef. I am sure if they understood that cutting tough beef would not make it any easier to chew!!! After a few minutes we left having eaten virtually none of the meal and extremely disappointed (and hungry). Fortunately were able able to find another restaurant in South Wingfield where we were able to eat an excellent meal. I dont know if the restaurant had booked too many covers and the kitchen could not cope but there was something seriously wrong with the food preparation. Through all of this the front of house staff did their best and were vey pleasant. I almost felt sorry for them. In summary a terrible experience.

Stayed here for two nights while visiting family in the area. Our room was very spacious, very clean and high quality toiletries in the bathroom which as well as a large walk in shower also had a spa bath. The breakfast is superb and the hot options are made to order. There is also a continental option with plenty to choose from. The staff are all very friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. My only criticism would be that there is nowhere for guests to sit and relax with a drink in the evening. There is a very nice bar and restaurant but the areas are not defined - I feel it would benefit from some comfy chairs and low tables beside the bar.

Been twice for early doors evening meals. On making my second table reservation I mentioned the fact that our first experience was spoiled by poor table service. It is with regret that I report no improvement. Our meal was served in a reasonable time from order but having been served no further interest was showed toward us during the meal. We had to summon a waitress for more drinks and we sat for an age before having to ask for the main course crockery to be cleared away. We waited again before having to ask for the desserts menu. The waitresses were smartly turned out and very polite but they clearly lacked any direction or supervision. This issue cannot be ignored !
