The White Hart in Winchester

We always like this pub for food and that the costs are kept at a decent price. Always give you good size portions too. We have found staff always busy, the thing is you can’t tell if it’s a pub or a restaurant. Which is quite confusing, trying to do both and when you’re queuing you don’t know if it’s for food or just drinks. There is one lady there that is quite rude to people but we didn’t see her this time. But this lady will ruin this pub if she isn’t careful. But we do like the food here!

What a shame, wanted to book a table for my dad's birthday, so when enquired the girl on the phone was rude and wanted a £45 non refundable deposit upfront! By the looks of the recent reviews I won't bother! Sounds like they are thinking they are something they are not!

Ordered 2 Pie of the Day meals which were Chicken and Mushroom. The mash was so obviously”Instant!!!” which was not a good start. The pie was far too overdone despite the decent filling but overall disappointing for what I’d heard from friends who had previously visited the WH. They were understaffed it seemed as when we were seated we were told someone would wait our table…. But 15 minutes later we still hadn’t seen anyone to the point I had to go to the bar and order our drinks. There was only a drizzle of gravy on the plate so I asked for a gravy jug. Although we were disappointed with the food we enjoyed the ambiance of having evening drinks in the garden. Flowers,lights and the atmosphere 4/10

Took family here as really fancied a roast and although haven’t been in a very long time (due to rude staff!!) I thought we could give it another go…. Wish I hadn’t bothered!!! Carvery was dry and cold meat with over cooked cold veg with potatoes hard as Conkers and very obviously frozen Yorkshire puddings so hard I could cut them with a knife!!! Partner had a huge fish and chips which looked unreal but hadn’t been filleted at all and had every single bone inside of it so he spent the entire time spitting bones into his hands! Ordered sides to go with our dinner which (even though we asked several times for them!) are after we’d finished our mains! Staff were all extremely rude just to add insult to injury!! Should’ve stuck with my gut! We won’t bother going ever again

Exceptional. I've lived in the village for 11 years and been blessed to live behind such a biggy as a local. And like the best leather furniture, it gets better with age. To be perfectly honest, I wasn't the biggest fan at first; being nit-picky, there were some time and quality issues, but over time that has all been dealt with. Today, in a packed out pub, I received my food in not an hour but a few minutes, and upon returning to the bar to replenish my pint, the barmaid saw me, again in a packed pub, and started pulling my pint. Exceptional customer service. Love it and fully recommend. Good size, family friendly, with an inflatable bouncy castle that goes up in seconds, great food and friendly staff. They also offer reasonably priced b&b (5 rooms I think?) Planning to stay at some point, so will review upon that later. 😊

Not that impressed with the food, I had gammon steak only to be told they had no pineapple. The worst shock was the price of drinks, I don't mind a company making a profit but I don't like being ripped off.. £4 for a coke!! I live in Yorkshire and people here would never accept being charged those prices. The waiting staff were however very good.

Went for dinner when we arrived a waitress appeared and asked if we would like a drink my sister said she would like a cup of tea and I just wanted a glass of water as a medication. We looked at the menu and decided what we wanted I went up to the bar and ordered told the lady what table we were sat at and paid at the counter.After we had our meals we collected our things and we left there was a lot of people standing outside the door having a cigarette and a chat when A waitress line after me and said you have not paid for the cup of tea in front of everybody very embarrassing I said to her I thought you put it on the bill but had no proof of this because they didn’t issue me with a receipt don’t think I’ll be returning no need to have made such a fuss over a cup of tea and to call out across the car park.

Party of 10 for a Birthday dinner. Great pub, lovely decor, popular. Excellent menu, Great variety of dishes. Food arrived soon after ordering and all 10 main meals were brought out at the same time and were piping hot . Everyone’s food was delicious, ( 2 meals were mixed grills and 3 were steaks , all perfectly cooked) we all were very happy . Absolutely 100% satisfied We have eaten here many times and have always had great food. Highly recommended.

Absolutely superb. I'd had a tired weekend and felt literally legless. Managed to find the only table that was unbooked. Had the most delicious carvery. You're served promptly (was never always the case, but there again, they listen to constructive feedback) I travel a lot, all over the country doing reviews, most recently Cheshire, so to have this place on my doorstep is a blessing. Give it a visit!

A cosy, busy pub with a great atmosphere. We eaten here a few times and absolutely love it. Food is always amazing. Best halloumi fries ever!!! You have to try these. Not the normally squeaky dry halloumi fries your get, These are huge, covered in the yummy batter and the halloumi is really creamy. I definitely recommend this place.

Food and atmosphere were good but the service was absolutely shocking and disgraceful. Will never ever return here due to the staff, their attitude and lack of care was the worst experience i have ever had. The ‘senior’ member of staff on shift was the rudest of them all and can’t believe she still has a job there. Heard another customer complaining about the same thing. If you want to have the worst service and experience this is the place to go

Had another lovely meal here on Sunday 18th Feb, the carvery was so fresh and such a good choice. The staff were Friendly and helpful, our waitress was very polite and checked carefully through our order( we found out later that it was her first day there!) She was so helpful.

Since we were recommended this place, the food has always been good quality, the Sunday roast is always tasty and fresh, and the chef who serves is polite and friendly. Today's trip was great, and I met a lovely lady named "Adi." She was so friendly and polite compared to some of the younger staff, especially the male one who upset an older couple today. Adi is a fine example of a reason to return to the pub for future lunches, as the customer service standard is outstanding. People are surprised by the portion sizes, but as I say, you wouldn't walk into a pub and find it hard to get a table if the meals were of poor standard!!!

First Class - Wonderful Evening! 18 of us went for Dinner last night and I have to say everything was perfect. We had a large selection of different starters, main courses and desserts and the food was excellent, great portion sizes, value for money and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. All courses were delicious and couldn’t fault it. The service is first class and nothing was too much trouble for any of the team. Great atmosphere and decorated beautifully and in keeping with the building but with a modern, smart touch. I couldn’t recommend The White Hart highly enough and we will definitely be returning. Also discovered they offer a carvery on a Wednesday evening which we will be coming along for in the near future, it looked delicious. Many thanks to all the team we had a wonderful belated Christmas Party you all made the evening perfect.

Just want to call out another excellent Christmas dinner party at the White Hart. The food was amazing, the service was amazing, the atmosphere was amazing and we will definitely be back for next Christmas. Thanks to Steve, Julie and all the great staff (serving and kitchen!) for making our evening a truly memorable one Happy new Year to you all.

Would just like to say a big thank you for another amazing Xmas party. Everything was brilliant and the dinner was delicious. Also a big thank you to all the volunteers and drivers who gave up their time to make sure we had a great time.

A very enjoyable experience. There were 18 of us from Waterlooville Social Swimmers and there were no complaints. I would certainly go again.

Wish I could leave zero stars!! We walked in, tried to order at the bar but we were told it was table service. We then sat and were then ignored for over half an hour. I decided to inform the staff of this disappointing experience before leaving, only to receive a very 'we don't really care' type reaction, no apology, nada. Absolute waste of our time and staff who are clearly not switched on. We won't be returning.

Been going to White Hart now for over four years on and off. Had many changes of staff but I can honestly say we have never had a bad meal. We only go at lunchtime so can’t comment regarding evening. The carveries are always good on a Wednesday and Sunday. Meat cooked beautifully. Need to book.

Just had an amazing lunch with my partner, I had the roast pork off the special board and it was delicious and my partner who is vegetarian had the halloumi burger and it was the best she has had anywhere. Definitely recommend this too others.

One member of staff was so rude and unwelcoming that if we had known the area better, to go somewhere else to eat, we would have left. Fabulous food but portion size too big.

Stayed in double room for 1 night. Very comfortable. Good shower, great breakfast. Just what we needed. Quiet road. Garden looked lovely with lots of mature trees.

We have lived in the village for 3 years now. We use the pub a few times a week. Mainly for drink, but food a couple of times a month. Unfortunately there really is nothing good to say about it. The service is always slow and the plentiful staff are always too busy chit chatting at the end of the bar. The food has never been good. Big portions, extremely low quality. Unfortunately tonight was our last visit as the food was just awful. French onion soup was so bad the only flavour was the added salt and white pepper we added (no black pepper available apparently). Halloumi fajitas were so greasy we could have rung it out. If you want a slow drink and aren’t in a hurry for your second, this is the place for you. If you want edible food and plentiful drinks, go somewhere else.

Ordered fish and chips did not want mushy peas , not offered garden peas ! Fish arrived oozing oil rather overcooked , found several bones peeled off fatty batter leaving overcooked fish , will not be returning , we used to go weekly this will be our last , something has gone VERY wrong with management

what an amazing place to stay. a wonderful room , comfortable bed and spotlessly clean. the staff were amazing so helpful ,friendly and efficient. as if that wasn't enough the food was delicious ,the breakfast menu was incredible . if you are thinking of staying in the Denmead /Waterlooville area the White Hart is the place to stay. I will certainly be returning

Went here today to celebrate exam results with 3 friends and was basically stared out of the pub. Each of my friends IDs were examined extensively, which i do not have an issue with as it is expected however the women serving us made a comment to my friend about how young she was (rudely). Which I felt was unnecessary as she is above the legal drinking age. The tone of the service was just very unwelcoming; a lot of dirty looks, passive aggressive comments and just being treated as an inconvenience. Never had a nice experience in this pub which is a shame as it could be lovely.

I have had many a good meal in this place so recommended to a friend. The food did not disappoint when it finally arrived, but the staff, with the exception of one young lad, were rude, ignorant, miserable and complacent. On approaching the bar we said we had booked a table, the heavily tattooed barmaid just stared at us while continuing her conversation with another staff member. Eventually she asked what we wanted to drink, we ordered orange juice and a soda and lime and again she just glared then said sarcastically pint or half? My friend said I’m not sure you heard me say we have a table booked, the barmaid just walked off to the other end of the bar and began pointing at us, then another young girl came round and said “this way” We sat down to view the menu and were told by another diner that we couldn’t order any food for at least 20 minutes, as he had been told. The waitress walked by 2 more times and the other diner asked both times if he could order and she just snapped “No” 45 minutes later she came to us and said did you book this table? We said yes so she took our order, with no smile or pleasantries. As she was walking away the other diner asked if he could order so she finally agreed to take his order. When our food eventually arrived, 40 minutes later she just named the food and we each said yes please. It was plonked down, there was no offer of sauces or even “ enjoy your meal” just a miserable face almost suggesting we were putting her out by having to serve us. No one came to ask if everything was ok, it was more than ok it was lovely. Very good value for money and very tasty food. By the time we had finished it appeared there had been a change of staff and the young man who came to clear our table was smiling and genuinely interested in how our meal was. We praised the food, but informed him how rude the bar and waiting staff were. We asked if the tip would go directly to him or if it had to be shared, reluctant to reward the female staff for such a negative experience. Unfortunately he said it would be shared, which greatly reduced the amount we left. Such a shame that a once friendly and relaxing atmosphere has apparently disappeared from this pub. If your main priority is the food I would highly recommend, but if you want the whole dining experience you will be very disappointed.

Hi guys, Ventured here on a Sunday a aa group of 10 (4 adults). Saw mixed grill on the specials, so elected for that over the fantastic looking carvery! Well... What can I say????.... It was fantastic. At £16.95 I've probably paid double at some restaurabts that have been far inferior!! I couldn't fault anything on this. The meat was cooked perfectly, was plentiful and tasted hugh quality. The chips well cooked, the mushrooms amazing and even the cooked vine tomatoes, excellent. I love a mixed grill, and as such have consumed enough to be critical, so this is an educated assessment. The rest of the meals were all good. The carvery was fresh, the kids chicken nuggets meal was a great portion and the pizza fresh All in all a great Sunday eating out. Special final props for having neck oil on draft which was also great!

It’s a lovely pub with a varied menu. Service a little slow but they do their best. The Cajun Chicken wrap was packed with chicken & bursting with flavour so recommend. Good portions all round & we have no complaints about the food at all.
