Treated my friend to a birthday treat. The weather was so good we were able to enjoy our delicious food al fresco. My friend had the Belly Pork, I had the Seafood Linguine. Had hoped to meet up with Ian to personally thank him for helping me out with a parking issue on Mothering Sunday. I have been going to The White Heart for years and I will continue to do so. Always guaranteed good service and tasty food. Big thanks to Ian and his lovely and friendly staff. Hope to see you again soon.

Fantastic roast and the staff are really friendly. Lovely dog and family friendly pub. We popped in late Sunday afternoon with our daughter and our dog. We were pleasantly surprised they had a table, so glad they did. The food was like a proper home cooked roast and the beef and turkey were very tasty. Staff were all really friendly and the service was great. This will be our go to now for Sunday roast. Highly recommend.

One of our favourite and many times visited establishments, always a courteous and caring welcome from the mainly young South African and Zimbabwean men, and occasionally from the Durban born manager. Food was always variable depending on which chef was in the kitchen, strange that the same item on the menu could be either excellent or so so depending on which was on duty. But usually good, and worth the trip. Until recently. A Christmas lunch for a dozen or so was booked, not realising that there was in fact no Christmas menu. OK that's our problem for not checking but.... Really really poor service - if you could call it that - by 3 pretty young girls, no sign of management although the bossy one of the three did have an attitude which implied she was in charge. Awful, seems that the recent takeover of another pub in Playhatch has stripped this one bare of what it used to have. Unanimous decision by all in the party - not coming back.

After many previous good lunches over several years at the White Hart, Nettlebed we were very disappointed on our last visit. The ambience was still good but standards have really dropped! Four of us arrived for a pre-booked lunch at Noon. There were very few other diners present throughout our visit. Orders were quickly taken for a hot sandwich lunch and drinks but it was 55 minutes before any food arrived and when it did the quality was poor. Bread was hard, toasted slices were burned and the fillings were cold (including hard over-cooked strips of steak). The soup was excessively salty (one person had stomach ache after eating it). Some drinks ordered were never ever brought to us and one diner (with coeliac) was served with a "gluten-free" sandwich with a filling containing gluten. The simple coffee order was mixed up and the wrong coffees were brought. All very amateurish and extremely disappointed. Prices have also increased. Sadly, we will not be returning in a hurry.

Came with a group of 8 friends. It was a Tuesday evening and they accommodated us easily enough. Good choice of food on the menu. As a starter I had the bread with oil and balsamic vinegar. Unfortunately, the balsamic used, didn’t soak up into 5he bread with the olive oil. As a main, I had the sea bass which was very good. The others in the group also seemed pleased with their main courses. Staff were both helpful and efficient. Food and drink was reasonably priced. Would happily go there again

Great food, good service and a lovely setting. Dinner at the White Hart was a pleasure - we were visiting the area and were attracted by the South African flavour and arrived without a reservation and were graciously accommodated. The dinner was excellent - a good spread of surf and turf and some great SA wines thrown in for good measure. If we are ever back in the area we will most certainly go back. Recommended.

The rack of ribs our two sons had was very tastefull, certainly recommended for those who like ribs. The misses had a Vincent Van Goat, which tasted very good and was to her standards of sufficiënt quantity, but would have left me hungry. So I was happy I chose the swordfish, because that really appeared to be an excellent choice. Desserts looked good, but we were satisfied with our main dish, so we skipped. It's a pitty they don't do the Eton Mess as a dessert anymore. I had it last year, and that was really great. To be honest: I was a little dissapointed they threw it of the menu. Great sitting, nice place, varied choise of beers. Very tidy place also, from top to bottom, and very polite and kind staff. We'll probably be back when where around next year. You can sit outside if you want, it's very nice there when the sun shines, but since there was no sun we skipped that part before having dinner.

Very disappointing lunch costing £250 for two! The food was stodgy and tasteless. The only decent thing on the starter platter was the pate. The carvery was not fresh and the vegetables were limp. No crispy roasties! The dessert platter was pure stodge and inedible. The only decent thing was the wine. This was a very expensive mistake for a three course lunch and will not be repeated. I was tempted by previous reviews and embarrassed to bring my daughter to eat here. I would never recommend the White Hart to anyone for food.

I ate dinner at the White Hart this evening. Whilst I can't fault the decor or atmosphere - it's a perfectly nice pub - I thought the food was truly dire. I had the calamari to start, which was similar to something you'd be served from a packet in a Wetherspoons. It was dry and I'd be extremely surprised if this wasn't from a frozen packet. It was the main course though that really staggered me. This is supposedly a South African pub, and they boast "legendary steaks" on the menu. This was singularly the worst steak that I've had out in the UK. I paid nearly £40(!!) for a Ribeye "Surf and Turf" and ended up with 3 tiny frozen prawns on a skewer, rested on top of a steak that was roughly the thickness of a rasher of bacon. This steak arrived slathered in BBQ sauce, rendering the additional £3 portion of (packet) Bearnaise pointless. If you're going to brand your steaks "Legendary" on the menu (and charge DOUBLE the price of Hawksmoor in Knightsbridge, Central London (per ounce)) - you really need to back it up with something far better than this. I'm not in the habit of leaving reviews on pubs or restaurants, but I felt compelled to today. If I could give The White Hart one less star, I'm afraid I would.

When you travel over 50 miles just for Sunday Lunch you expect it to be perfect and it was just that. My choice was the traditional Carvery Lunch (Beef & Turkey) which came with a Yorkshire Pudding the size of a Brandy Glass. Others had the Lamb and a Pork Belly. Including drinks and a pudding it was under £80 for the 3 of us. Service was friendly and attentive, but not at all intrusive. Decor and atmosphere was pretty good too.

My wife felt she'd be happy to drop in, and indeed there appeared to be a presence at the small bar with its comfy armchairs. So, not really a typical village pub - a cut above that, for good or ill, and a focus on space for rather good dining.

Called in on the off chance on a Sunday, late afternoon. So glad we did! We were given a warm welcome into a lovely atmospheric dining area. Good selection on the menu but the aroma from the lamb on the carvery made our decision for us. We were given a choice of:turkey, beef, pork, lamb, gammon... Both myself and my husband chose rare lamb and beef which was a very generous portion. The choice of vegetables was great and all cooked to perfection.. Never had such a choice in a carvery. The only thing I would suggest is put a lid on the gravy, as it could have been warmer! Service was very good and whilst I wouldve loved a dessert I just could not manage one. My husband although, enjoyed his carrot cake cheesecake.. Just felt it could've been a slightly larger portion. Overall a great dining experience and one I will recommend to friends. We will definitely be back.. If only for me to sample the interesting cheeseboard and range of puds!

We started with a trio of nibbles - piping hot whitebait and bobotie Bon Bon were the stars. Mains included a huge file of ribs, a decent burger and pork tender loin with a black pudding croquette. Booked for a quiet weekend away with my parents to celebrate birthdays and was not disappointed with this charming hotel,! Check in was welcoming and friendly and we were escorted to our beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean rooms which were fully equipped with all necessary amenities. Comfy beds, luxury linens and boutique feel shower room all added to the experience. As part of the secret escapes deal we had booked a 3 course dinner was included in the price and we were amazed when informed we could choose anything from the full menu with only steaks incurring a supplement. The food was delicious with plenty of choice over our two night stay and the service was prompt and pleasant from all staff. After a comfortable nights sleep and with stomachs still bulging from the previous night we ventured down to breakfast and were presented with a varied choice of cereals, yoghurt and fruit followed by toast and a full cooked breakfast which was divine and plenty to keep us full all day ! All in all a great value for money stay which was thoroughly enjoyed by all ! There are two minor points I must mention for this to be a true reflection of this great hotel and that is its position on a fairly major road where traffic and road noise commenced quite early ( there are rooms at the back ) and the rather temperamental coffee machine which produced lukewarm tea and coffee during breakfast , neither of which would prevent us returning to this good find !!

Absolutely disgusted by the service and management's attitude to keeping a party of nine (including four hungry children) waiting two hours to be served! We had two jugs of water brought to the table after 40 minutes - no glasses, just water. Then, after an hour's wait the drinks arrived with glasses for the water but still no food until two hours had passed. Bear in mind this was on a Monday, not known to be the busiest night of the week...

Beautiful Cotswold stone building in the High Street serving excellent food and well kept ales. A bit formal but that's normal for this part of the world. Worth a visit.

We stayed in January this year and pointed out the loose tap and broken plug in the bathrooom. We were given the same room again on this visit. The tap was still leaking and difficult to turn off and the plug so tight it could not be used. There was no mattress protector between the mattress and sheet at either of our stays. This, too, was pointed out at each of our stays. The staff were very pleasant and friendly and the food of good quality. However, we found the lack of maintenance and shabbiness made our stay disappointing. We are unlikely to return.

Ten sat to eat and ate well with a South African twist to some of the food. Be aware the meat platter for two as a starter is an amazing amount of food and for me didn't need anything else. Lovely drinks selection as well. Including cask beer. We were very well fed both nights and the following breakfasts were individually selected, hot and tasty.

We visited at lunch time when it was very quiet. There is a good choice of food and helpings are generous. The staff are friendly and helpful and they even lit a log fire for us as it was a very cold day. Parking seems a little restricted but we found a space as it was so quiet.

Booked through Secret Escapes - good price so didn't expect a lot. Pleasantly surprised - very nice hotel, clean room, roll top bath, shower ensuite, big comfy bed, lovely restaurant - ate on Saturday evening and enjoyed full English on the Sunday morning - all very freshly made and appetising. 10 minutes drive into Henley on Thames, quaint riverside town with plenty of bars and cafes. Enough shops to browse around. If we're inthat area again would definitely stay at The White Hart again.

Great food in a friendly, pleasing atmosphere with a feel of modern. The restaurant was bright and airy, with enough sparkling glassware on the table as if you are having a state banquet which is juxtaposed cow hide chairs. The service was attentive and friendly. The food was highly enjoyable and of a good portion. The n=menu was extensive catering for most varied tastes. Well worth a visit.

Stayed at the White Hart with my sister over a weekend. The pub and restaurant are lovely and the staff friendly. We had booked a twin room, and were told there is only one, which seems strange in this day and age. Our room was on the ground floor in the annex and was lovely and quiet but very dark. The bathroom looked lovely until you went to use the shower. Head far too small for the cubicle, no pressure and took ages for the water to heat up. Interesting to read other reviews of rooms which mentioned roll top baths, sofas and chairs. Our room had none of these, only a stool to sit on other than the beds. The sole twin room does seem to be a bit of a poor relation considering it is the same price as others.

We stayed with a dinner, bed and breakfast deal from Secret Escapes which is amazing value for money. Able to select from the main menu with only a small surcharge for fillet steak. The food was excellent with very generous portions. Rooms are very comfortable with tasteful decorations in keeping with the style of the pub. My only criticism is the lack of decent lighting in the room to put makeup on or in the bathroom to shave etc. However this wouldn’t stop me from staying again or recommending to friends.

We received a warm welcome and were up graded free of charge as I prefer a bath as I suffer from a degenerate spine . The rooms were well appointed with a settee and two chairs a large comfy bed a separate loo and shower room and a roll top bath in the bedroom. The two evening meals were excellent succulent steak on night one and tasty fish on the second night. Breakfasts were equally good with fried eggs cooked exactly as we wanted-a rarity . Staff were friendly, chatty and helpful. I would definitely recommend the White Hart and would happily return.

Booker this same Inn with South African themed restaurant via Secret Escapes on a half board basis and wasn't disappointed so rebooked for another stay before departing. The package that we chose included dinner and breakfast and both were excellent. Rooms were variable; refurbished in the main inn building but the superior rooms were in the newer annex at the back away from the road which were stylish and quieter.

As a booked table of three , two of us arrived first and was shown our table. we were offered an alcoholic drink but agreed on just water whilst we waited for out friend to arrive. Once all three of us were there we noticed there seemed to be something wrong with the two members of staff . One had taken our drinks order for the other to come over and ask if we had made up our minds completely unaware we had already ordered ? . The meal it self was quite nice we all went for the fish and chips. The fish itself was nice with no bones. Then came a problem of trying to leave. ... we had not seen the staff for a while ( there was two tables with parties of 3/4 and one other table with one person on ) we asked if we could have the bill.......... a while later , we asked again............ some time later our bill arrived but then we were sat waiting an age to pay, after a very long wait we decided we would pay at the bar as we really wanted to leave , one of the bar staff appeared and and finally took payment from us.......... whilst the meal itself was nice and the restaurant clean we felt the bar staff were having issues with each other as there were not communicating rather just walking past the other and that made for an uncomfortable time .

We booked for a Thursday evening online, arrived early for our table, so opted for a drink in the bar first. The time of our table came and went and we presented ourselves (for the second time) to the restaurant staff. We had been put on a table right at the back around a corner with very little atmosphere so asked to sit in the main dining area (where there was plenty of space) which was fine. We ordered our food (some things were not available so we had to re-think our choices sadly), and a bottle of wine and some table water. The food arrived pretty promptly, but the wine and water were no-where to be seen. We asked another member of staff who said it was on the way. I was trying to save my delicious starter because I had wanted to have some wine with it. Some time later one of the staff came back to clarify which wine we wanted. Yet more time later, the other waitress brought the wine, but advised that it wasn't cold so she could put it in a very cold fridge for us, or bring us some ice. It was a £35 bottle of wine so we politely declined (having felt the bottle, I don't think it had been anywhere near a fridge for a while!). We ordered a different bottle of wine, which again took some time to arrive - still no water! Needless to say, the starter was finished well before the wine eventually arrived. The main course arrived and was delicious and we finally got our table water. We opted out of dessert/coffee (it was getting quite late now!). It was such a shame because the food was wonderful and I would definitely recommend it, but the service was so lacking. Everything seemed to take a long time to come and it felt like everything was a real effort. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy and there appeared to be adequate staff numbers, but lacking in efficiency and attention to customer needs.
