We thought we'd give The White Hart a go a few Sundays ago as we were child free. We've tried most places in the area and most have been thoroughly disappointing so after looking at reviews on here we thought we'd give it a go. I will admit when I saw the sign that said 2 for £14 on roast my heart sank a little as I expected it to be a cheap wetherspoons type roast. Well I was BEYOND WRONG. The roast was AMAZING! We both had the 3 meat roast, chicken, gammon and beef and the care and attention that the chef had put into the food he served was obvious from the moment our plates were put down. Beautifully presented with perfect homemade Yorkshire puddings, perfect roast potatos and all of the meats we're tender and juicy. We were just astounded at the quality. Since then we've been back twice, once for a roast and another time on a Friday night and all 3 times have been equally good. The food is incredibly cheap but absolutely delicious and plentiful. The bar staff friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere welcoming. This is absolutely now our go to place for a roast, being a qualified chef I get so sick of places serving par standard roast dinners but The White Hart far exceeded out expectations. Our new local. Keep doing what youre doing and compliments to the Chef!

On a stunning summers day four friends and a dog met at this country pub. We seated ourselves on the terrace under a large umbrella and perused the menu. Waiters appeared quickly and we were attended to efficiently, with a really good choice of menu. Each had a different meal which was nicely presented and excellent. The deserts were equally tempting and delicious. We moved to the garden area amongst the trees and after more drinks passed the afternoon away very comfortably. I would thoroughly recommend this venue to you as the whole experience was delightfull.

The welcome was warm and friendly. Our order of Hunter Chicken was delivered in good time. The taste was perhaps the best Hunters I have ever had and the chips were tasty and very crisp. The only downside was the table was very sticky. If it hadn't been for that I would have awarded The Hart a five.

Boring food - veg out of the freezer. Items not available. No atmosphere in this place at all. Slow service but not worth the wait.

The food and service here was excellent. Eaten here twice over a weekend and will definitely be returning here on our next visit. Shame this pub is too far away to be called our local! Thank you.

We had a lovely meal with a variety of vegetblea and the crumble was great. Matt the owner was great and every bar should have a jack. We will return.

Quick meal here while stating nearby. OK, nothing special but equally nothing offensive. Service friendly and beer OK (although could do with more choice). Typical pub and pub food.

I've only had Sunday roast here but it was a great hit with all the family. Classic roasts with all the trimmings and you can go up for extras. Nice vibe with live music on the electronic piano.

Loved the food. Menu had a wide selection and the food was great. The reason I only give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the service wasn't very good. I had to find the waitress to ask her for the bill. I understand that she is alone but I felt like I had to apologize for bothering her!

Visited the White Hart with a group of friends. Tried to look up the menu on line before we went, unfortunately they currently do not have the menu on line, the landlord advised me this will soon be rectified. Having said that there was a very good selection to choose from and all reasonably priced. We all ordered and didn't have to wait too long for our food to arrive. All well presented and tasted lovely. We will be going back, worth a visit if your in the area.

As the hotel we were staying at could not accommodate us for an evening meal we asked a local called Jimbo and he said go to The White Hart I eat and drink there all the time. It was a 10 minute walk and we were given a lovely warm welcome. The food was amazing and well presented. The waitress, bar staff and owners were very friendly There is ample parking and the hanging baskets and tubs of flowers are beautiful..

This public house is situated less than a mile from the Travel Lodge on the A22 and makes a good place for an evening meal. In addition to "pub grub" there were some very tasty home made additions at reasonable cost. The menu provides for meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. I had fresh plaice and my partner the Lasagne - both judged excellent. It is a free house and on the night had Harvey's Bitter on tap as well as the ubiquitous pressurised beers (e.g. Fosters). A nice welcome and speedy service. One dish to recommend - the apple, sultana & cinnamon slice with custard,

This hotel needs some serious £ spent on it but I have to say our room was very nice (26) and tea / coffee / biscuits and toiletries were provided. Had a nice dinner (3 courses) and a full English breakfast which were both included in a very reasonable rate but my breakfast was somewhat ruined when I noticed a couple of dead flies on the window sill and coffee spillage on the tiled conservatory floor that had obviously been there for some time. My advise would be to address both these unfortunate issues as a priority..... They are easily rectified. On a brighter note, One thing I would say about this 16th century hotel is that the staff were absolutely charming. I enjoyed a good laugh with the maitre D.

Reasonably priced - plenty of choice of meat/fish/pasta dishes. 2 course meal at lunch times for under 7 pounds.Plenty of parking space, but be careful coming back out onto main road as Restaurant on a bend.Disabled toilet. Dine in Restaurant, or bar area.Lunch times during the week get very busy so it may be advisable to book.I have noticed that several tables are booked for friends and work colleagues who meet for lunch on a regular basis.

We had dinner here, as we were staying at the hotel for the night. Our waitress, Sita, was very helpful and really made the evening special for us; a gem.The food was good and there is plenty of variety here. The dining room is large, open and airy but retains the character of the building's ancient past. The kitchen area is visible from the dining area, so you can watch your meal being cooked by a pair of quiet, efficient chefs.

Bank Holiday Monday and we had found it difficult in immediate area to find somewhere for a quick lunchtime snack whilst cycling. However, at the White Hart in Lower Horsebridge we were offered (although kitchen closed on a Monday ... and this was about 2pm) a couple of rounds of Ham Sandwiches. basic stuff, sure enough ... but the ham was off the bone and delicious. Service above-and-beyond. Thank you.Doom Bar ale and Harveys on offer. The bar area certainly looked pleasant for a drink ~ pool table at one end; but we chose the back garden to eat outside and so keep an eye on the cycles. A lovely garden away from the road.

I'm surprised at the poor reviews I've just read, particularly relating to the Christmas party meal.14 of us booked a pre-Christmas meal from the same menu and it was brilliant! True, we went at lunchtime and did not go expecting a 'party'. Also, we fall into the 'mature' age group, and this could make a difference in expectations, I suppose.I have eaten a good number of times at the White Hart and have never had anything at all to complain about. I am ususally with one of three groups of between 8 and 14 people. When there with a smaller group, other people have also been eating there and have seemed happy.I can't really comment on evening staff and/or service, but if you want a lovely, uncomplicated lunch menu and well cooked food, this is a good place to come.

Our Company Festive Treat was held at the White Heart pub, Hellingly, East Sussex on Wednesday 10th December. We received their flyers offering a venue for xmas parties etc. at £17.95 per head and as it was local to our company and for the staff, we booked for a party of 32. Also as the pub was local it seemed right to support a business in our vicinity, rather than look to larger towns that offered more choice.THE AMBIENCE:On arrival it was evident we had filled the place and that the table arrangement put paid to any socialising, other than with the 7 other people at your table. We had all pre ordered a 3 course meal. But when it came to the starters being distributed to the correct individual, it became clear that this was beyond the waiting staff who, incidentally, looked like they could have been drafted in, from the neighbourhood, to help out at the last minute. No attempt at the basic waiting staff white and black dress code had been thought of. This just added to the farce of 3 people walking around asking 'who had ordered the Prawns' and peddling them from table to table! The order was placed weeks prior and most of us were at a loss to recall our personal choice.THE FOOD:Starters......Choice of Pate, Tempura Prawns or Smoked Salmon.Pate; 2 lovely size pieces with small garnish and just under a half slice of white toast. Sadly spoilt by the lack of toast, or over sized Pate?Tempura Prawns; Just 3 with little garnish and a dip. This one spoilt by the lack of Prawns!!Smoked Salmon; This looked the best option, if you like Salmon, that is?MAIN:A choice of Trad' Turkey, Beef or Salmon in Hollandaise.Turkey... Turkey ok, quite moist. Roast Pots' large, soft and had sat for to long allowing any hint of crispness to dissipate. Green Beans (frozen),Cauliflower, Wafer thin slivers of Parsnip. Carrots and my favourite Brussels. The Brussels were 100% perfect. Stuffing ( packet).Beef.... Tender.Salmon and Hollandaise...The sauce was offered in a gravy boat and had literally set!It was served thus; Haphazardly again. The meat and potatoes arrived. 5 minutes later the veg arrived. Then upon the third time of asking Gravy was finally delivered. No choice of Poultry or beef. Just 'meat' gravy(granules)!Sadly the food was cold from the off and grew colder as we awaited luke warm gravy to avoid the poor Turkey developing Hyperthermia.SWEET:A choice of, Xmas Pudd'. Bailey's Cheesecake or Fruit Salad.Xmas Pudd... A small individual pudding in a sea of Custard. Totally cold custard and un-microwaved xmas pudd, that was a solid blob! A few were returned to be heated, others had given up!Bailey's Cheesecake...well the Pub can't be held accountable for the total lack of flavour. Blame Tesco I guess?Fruit Salad... a large portion with cream( mainly fresh fruit)Mince pie to finish...A Lidl mini mince pie. Bland. Not offered coffee. No after dinner Mint. Christmas Crackers(every 3rd one the same!)VERDICT:Soulless Pub. There was 1 other person drinking at the bar. Yes it was a Wednesday though, although this pub's on the A271, so.....? A semblance of knowing what you are doing offers confidence to patrons too.So why not just turn the booking away if you can't cope with the numbers? Could it be the Financial climate? But surely if you accept a booking like this, then you make an effort in the hope of getting repeat business? For £17.95 a head was I expecting to much? N.b. Our company caters 300 meals daily, 365 days a year.

Recommended as the best option for food when we stayed at the nearby Travelodge. Excellent food in particular the hot and cold seafood platter. Sadly when we return for an overnight on the way home from Spain we will be too late for a meal. Good value attentive staff, and a nice bitter as well..

The October 2012 review for The White Hart still applies. This is not a gastropub, but it's right at the top of pub food. And the portions are still generous. My own preference is no potatoes, no Yorkshire pud. And I also enjoy cheese after a meal. The White Hart came in tops with all these and the bottles of red wine (Australian and Chilean) were all under £14. I would have to mention the excellent service from both the welcoming manager (possibly the owner) and the cheerful waitress.I don't give 5 stars, because there is always something that could be improved (in this case, the decor is more cafe than restaurant - but don't let that put you off). But if I did, The White Hart's meals and service would get five. I don't think the people here realize just how good they are!

Sometimes pub grub doesn't quite make it into the category of "fine dining" but this comes very close - the food was excellent! I ordered half a shoulder of lamb but think I got almost half a lamb! The cheese platter was one of the most generous I have seen and the wine to wash it all down with, although cheap, was lovely. The welcome from staff was warm and friendly and the service was just right, attentive but not too overbearing. If there was one thing to pick up on it was the lack of decaf coffee but it wasn't worth knocking off a star for that! I'd be very happy to return!

What a lovely pub and restaurant this is. As soon as you walk in you are felt very welcome, like a regular even though you are not. Tim the owner was very friendly and attentive, as were all the staff we came into contact with. The pub has live music which is in the bar area along with a pool table and there is a very bright and comfortable restaurant at the other end. The menu is extremely good for “a pub” and they also have a “specials” board, it really was difficult to make a choice as it all looked very tasty. Beware though if you want 3 courses, the portions are quite large, so unfortunately because I had a starter then the main course I had no room for a pudding! If the puddings were as good as the first and main courses we had, I will leave room for one next time. You can ask for smaller portions though so that is a good idea for those with smaller appetites. The restaurant staff were friendly and very unobtrusive, gave plenty of time to make our choice and still happy to come back if more time was needed. They were attentive throughout but again not overly so but making sure everything was to our liking and if anything else was needed, for example more drinks. Both courses were presented very well and were piping hot and as mentioned portions were very good, in fact too good! There seemed to be quite a few “locals” eating here so that is always a good sign I think, and we were certainly not made to feel like “outsiders” which can sometimes happen in some pubs. We will certainly be going back very soon, but this time I will have smaller portions so I can have all 3 courses! Very highly recommended.
