Great local atmosphere.... with some life off the beaten track I nice find for a local pub when on your holidays Popped in a couple of times for evening drinks and made to feel welcome Then a meal last night. Great portions and excellent pub/restaurant food. Couldn't ask for better place on your doorstep.

Nice pub, lovely beer garden and staff were very friendly. The food was good, with large portions but the menu was small with only pub classics so if you want something other than burger and chips/ fish and chips/ steak and chips then this isn't the place for you. Would definitely return for a drink but would try somewhere else to eat with more choice.

Cycled here after riding the Camel Trail and seeing some good reviews. Got here around 4pm, an hour before the England match, to receive a warm welcome from the young lady behind the bar. I asked if I could use a socket to charge up my battery and she was very helpful (.didn’t catch her name, might have been Rose). I had a couple of pints whilst watching the football then ordered the Steak & Ale pie, which turned out to be a good decision. It had lots of meat and the veg & mash with that lovely gravy went down very well. A great atmosphere in the pub made this one of the best pub visits I’ve had this year.

We booked well in advance as we had heard good reports of the food here, and when we arrived there were only two tables that weren’t reserved , so we thought that was a good sign. Greeted warmly by the staff and shown to our table , no one really explained what happened when we wanted to order so we went to the bar for drinks and then a waitress did come and take our order. It was really hot in the pub as the fire was lit , got a bit uncomfy at one point but the door was opened which helped. Lovely friendly waiting staff and not too long a wait for food to arrive. Steak was cooked very well alongside usual pub grub sides of frozen chips and onion rings. Portion size was huge , need to rein that in a bit. We enjoyed it but on walking back to our car we were heckled by ‘locals’ in the pub garden, really intimidating and taking the mickey out of my dress , which really upset a nice evening out. In these times they should understand that the tourists they so obviously hate actually help to keep little pubs (that they like to think of as theirs) alive. Perhaps the owner / staff should have a word , as it wasn’t nice and has therefore stopped us from a return visit.

I have known this wonderful village pub since 1971 and my family has great memories of warm welcome and good food at sensible prices. However, my adult son and I had a truly appalling meal here on 10th June. The starters were swamped in bottle sauces whilst the burgers for our mains were dry, tasting more of sausage or kebab than great West Country beef. Sadly, a bad day in the kitchen! But the welcome was as good as always and the beer very well kept, so still worth a visit.

This has to be the best pub /restaurant in Cornwall. Food is very good traditional pub grub and is competitively priced. This pub is very friendly and a great place for eating or just drinking . It is not pretentious and hasn't been updated like a lot of pubs which have been re-fitted and as a result have lost their original character. Well behaved dogs on leads are welcomed which was good. You would go a long way to find a better pub than this which we think is down to the landlord Barry who is brilliant and for many years has run this pub and still found the time to come round to check that everything was OK when we were there recently. If fact this pub is so good I am reluctant to recommend it because I don't want too many people knowing about it and changing it as a result.Tip - booking especially for Sunday lunch is essential.

They put us all in our own little room near the bar. Food was gorgeous, all 9 of us really enjoyed our meals. Saw a sign on the A39 when on the way to a hotel and decided to take a chance on a Sunday afternoon. Loads of parking around the back and we entered (2 adults and a 7 year old) into the bar which was indeed as it should be local. But the barman ushered us through to the lounge area and made us feel welcome. We had to wait 45 mins to when food restarted at 6pm but the time flew and out little girl liked doing the colouring in, and looking at things on the walls. Food was very good except the kids meal of mac and cheese which was swimming in oil and was too much for a little tummy. In hindsight we should have sent it back, or picked better for our daughter but she ate enough to not be hungry. Worth turning off the A39 to find and if available pick the lovely pork belly.

Was staying close by and looking for a early meal for 9 of us. We had been out all day and had small children who needed to be Fed. The staff were excellent. Managed to find sharable for all of us. The food was very good. I had the lamb steak and it was a huge, steak. All our meals were excellent. Well done to the staff and kitchen staff. Would recommend

We recently visited for a birthday tea. We arrived about half 6 so the place was busy. We didn’t realise until arriving that there was a charity auction taking place later in the evening. We ordered the drinks and a waitress arrived swiftly to take our food order. There was a wide range of foods on the menu which made it very difficult to choose!

we reserved a table here for lunch, it's a very friendly 'local pub, lots of regulars who are also welcoming. Sunday roast was nice, everything was what you would expect for a traditional roast. Would recommend, everything was lovely.

This is an excellent pub, lovely food and the staff were really, really good, it was really busy over the Christmas period, yet the staff went out of there way to accommodate us.

Fantastic find on our day trip to Bude. My husband had a delicious gluten free breakfast (finding somewhere good that's gluten free isn't always easy) and I enjoyed the American pancakes & a cappuccin
