Old Hill Fish And Chip Shop in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

This place is truly underrated. Falmouth has plenty of fish & chip shops, but this one stands out as the best. Everything is cooked fresh to order, and you can really taste the difference in the quality, including the freshness of the oil. The only downside is their limited opening hours—they close at 7:30 PM, which feels a bit early. However, if you're after a top-notch portion of fish and chips, it's worth planning around their schedule.

cheeseburger was good tasty. lots of cheese and salad tasty however chips were good paid 2-80 for small chips and the portion was tiny what you would give a small child shame cos they were good

Just finished eating our fish and chips, what can I say! I ordered it for 6.30 and it was spot on time, it was absolutely delicious. The batter was fantastic, so crispy. Everything was great. Thankyou from three very satisfied people.

Wow! Drove by Old Hill Fish and Chip shop in Falmouth this afternoon, never noticed it before, but thought - chips for tea, let’s try this place. So, this evening popped in and had large cod, large chips, and two portions of battered pineapple (4) - £16. Absolutely amazing, haven’t had fish and chips like that in years. Chips are chunky and crispy, cod was beautifully battered and succulent, the pineapple fritters were stunning (served them up with some warm golden syrup at home). Will DEFINITELY BE GOING BACK! Very friendly staff - oh, and the crispy batter bits (screes) are really good.

Best in Town. Big portions, well cooked, cheap at half the price when compared with other outlets in Falmouth and surrounding area. This establishment is always spotless, as are the staff. A big YES vote from me.

Absolutely brilliant fish and chip shop well worth a visit

Probably the best chips I've had in Falmouth. Great crispy chips with a soft fluffy inside texture. Fish was nice and crispy too and great batter. A bit too much salt on the fish but definitely a good proper chippy that I'd be happy to buy from again. Recommend calling to order as waiting time is around 20 mins on a busy Friday eve.

One of the meals I look forward to when I visit friends in Falmouth is some good Fish and Chips and with this place we found the best. This is a takeaway only place but the ordering at the counter to the serving of your order is seamless and done by very nice people. If they have a lot of orders be prepared to wait! Also this is a very clean takeaway spot. The fish had a very light batter on it and was a large piece that was delicious. The basket came with a larger order of chips that weren’t greasy at all and were very tasty, couldn’t eat all of them. Wouldn’t hesitate to get takeaway from here and if your ever in Falmouth, UK stop in!

Best sausage in batter ever!! Fancied chips for tea. Looked on trip advisor. Eventually found this place. Honestly the batter on the sausage was AMAZING SO THIN in crispy. EVERYTHING made fresh while you wait. Husband had large chips. ( not a large like we normally have at home in wales ) but nevertheless very tasty.

Lovely fish great portions, if you like a large amount of chips order a large. Great curry sauce and great service.

My favourite chippy in the whole Truro/Falmouth area. The quality is always high, the staff are always friendly, and the satisfying portions are decently priced and utterly delicious. Plus, you can always find a free parking spot within a few yards of the door. If Old Hill chippy isn't already your chippy of choice, call in soon & let their excellent food convince you.

1st time trying old hill chippy & omg I was not disappointed, staff was really friendly & polite , food was absolutely beautiful & the kids meal boxes are a bargain, we fed 5 of us & got drinks for less than £30 & all 5 of us was very happy, highly recommended . We definitely will be back thank you

They were hot but the normal portion of chips was about 10 chips like a kids portion. The medium were very small too. Thin piece of fish and not welcome and absolute Covid craziness! Won’t be returning sorry! What a shame they used to be so good!

Large portion of chips was what a small would be from any other chippy, but priced like a large portion. Fish was greasy. Batter stuck to paper because it hadn't been done properly. Thought going to the local would be better value for money than the chippies on the tourist high street but it was same price for less and not great quality. Fish was big at least.

I've never eaten anywhere better

Having tried our favourite local chippy 'Nemos in Penryn' reputedly the 'best in Cornwall' which had a queue of 20+ we diverted to 'Old Hill Chippy' to avoid the long queue & for a change and was surprised that we were the only customers at 'Old Hill' given the popularity of where we'd just come from.The ordering system and covid measures at 'Old Hill' are excellent and the premises appeared clean. The cod was skinless, very nicely cooked and of adequate medium size and better than the Harbour Lights for example, the portions of chips however were underwhelming, edible but insipid, mushy and unreasonably small in portion size. Sadly 'Old Hill Chippy' just isn't in Nemos league and whilst the fish is very good at both places and the price fairly average, Nemos serves up a 'proper' large sized quality portion of excellently cooked 'fish & chips' with a side for less than £8. This difference would put us off returning to 'Old Hill' unless we were hungry & literally passing by.

We were searching all over for a fish and chip lunch as we're in the car we phone quite a few to check on the batter recipe due to a serious egg allergy and have to say we were very impressed by Old Hill handling of the matter. We arrived at chippy and have to say what a delightful set up the lady on the door running a fantastic ship shape operation around the covid setups The food is all cooked to order so be prepared for a little wait or you can phone your order ahead. The fish was amazing fresh and tasty the batter was just as it should crispy and lightThe chips were cooked to perfection and crispy edges and fluffy inner the mushy peas were also amazing. We did drive up to pendennis to eat them so I can give them the veiw but the meal certainly complimented itWould highly recommend speaking out the gem of a place and if Rick Stien ever reads this:this was where I said was 5 star well this is it

Friday lunch had fish and chips from here. A truly wonderful piece of fish, only marked down a bit as the chips were slightly oily, however that was probably because I was the last customer before they were to close and the chips never had time to sit. Good fish and chips 👍

After having previously been to a different extremely disappointing chip shop in Falmouth I decided I'd try here. After finally making it up the gargantuan hill I placed my rather large order which was fried only after I told them so it was about as fresh as could be.The portions are not massive but they're not small either. A large portion of chips is more than enough for one person but would only just feed two. The prices are pretty reasonable and if I lived here I'd not hesitate to call in here again.

I am very fussy when I comes to fish and chips, usually eat late on Friday and not managed to catch this open until now.(Closes at 7.30)I have tried a few different places since moving here in March, and this is very good. It has one terrible review whichI recon is a bit suspect tbh.Very friendly very good value and all cooked nicely. Can’t really fault it to be fair. I will return.

We are staying in self catering accommodation for a week, and decided that we wanted a simple evening meal. We found this place on the internet as it was the closest to our flat. The chippy is set in a housing estate and parking is limited on the roadside, but the welcome was very friendly from the staff. Had to wait only a few minutes to be served. Ordered cod and chips which was fantastic. Best that my wife has eaten. I had jumbo sausages - also first rate. Freshly cooked whilst I waited. Definitely worth the wait. And fantastic value.

Not very nice at all, they used to be so nice from here but they have gone down hill so much! Really disappointed with the quality of the "battered" sausages, and the chips were over cooked full of grease, such a let down.

Every now and then I like to have fish and chips and this shop is only a few minutes away a good menu to choose from usually fried as you wait and a nice meal to eat

I'm a real fan of fish and chips, and have tried over 9 fish and chip outlets within a 10 mile radius of Redruth. The Old Hill Fish and Chip shop beats the rest hand down. The fish is incredibly fresh and cooked to perfection in tasty batter that is just right. The chips are the right consistency and taste delicious. Finally, the staff have been so incredibly friendly each time I have visited, alone or with friends, and I am never let down either by the welcome or the food. I can't recommend their fish and chips highly enough - from a fish and chip aficionado

Many of the fish and chip shops in Falmouth are award winning but the best value and tasty meals come from Old Hill. They take orders and have them ready on every stipulated time. The package ing is attractive and functional and they retain their heat.vthe fish is always very fresh, white and flakey Nd the batter is crunchy but never greasy. The chips have never let us down. They and dry aand crunchy without greas. When ordering request that the chips are served separately. The only complaint is that the helpings are often too large and I hate waste so I can sometimes feel uncomfortable after one of these meals as I've eaten too much but they're too good to waste. Good value for money and lovely

We are local, live in Falmouth and have frequented all the towns fish and chip shops for a long time and just recently decided to try Old Hill Fish and Chip Shop and WOW we are hooked. The fish is generous and really filling, crispy batter, the chips are not at all greasy and taste lovely. I won't go to any other chip shop now I have found Old Hill. The staff are so friendly each time I have been in. Five stars to Old Hill Chip Shop ! They even do a delivery service in the area for people who need it.

And not over priced, no frills the way it should be with fish and chips, friendly family owned business.

Been here many times before as it is my local chippy of choice and have experienced everything that the menu has to offer and it gets better every time i enter the well run friendly shop and wouldn't dream of going anywhere else to get my meal.MUST GO AND EXPERIENCE.

On a cold, wet Friday afternoon I went in search of a nice plate of Cod and Chips. I drove to Penryn's two shops first, no parking and then when I final get a space in the car park, the not very busy shop was "order only" for everything but chips..... so I drive into Falmouth town, first stop Harbour Lights..... packed with kids both sides of the counter, I think the servers were hanging out with their friends in there, next stop Ricks, no one wanted to serve me and last time I went in there the fish was a finger and the chips were re-fried cardboard.So I gave up and started to head home, road works pushed be towards the Beacon and the top of Old Hill when I spotted the shop I had long forgotten from my childhood when I lived in that area. The shop looked just like it did over 30 years ago and you would think it had only just opened, it was spotless. Cod, sausages, pea fritters and fish cakes were all ready to go even though it was coming up to closing time.I made a special order of Haddock which was absolutely beautiful along with a pea fritter, chips and good old school curry sauce.Everything tasted wonderful and was so much better than the slop and grease from other F&C shops in Falmouth/Penryn.To top it all....... the price was amazing. Cod, Large Chips, Pea Fritter, Curry Sauce for TWO people £13This takeaway deserves more reviews, however most people only write these reviews to complain, so that says something for Old Hill F&C Shop.

My favourite fish and chip emporium in Falmouth. The proprietors are cordial and the fish is excellent. I have suffered too many places where the fish is poor, re-heated, and thickly battered (in batter that is half cooked). The fish here is fresh and delicious.
