This pub is a gem in Canterbury, food excellent best Sunday Roast in area, also have special offers in week on meals, atmosphere and service second to none, thanks to Keith, Wendy and all your staff. We will be back again and again

Welcoming staff. We went for Sunday roast, which was great, plenty to choose from. Very reasonably priced too. Would highly recommend.

What a lovely little Gem and the staff and food was second to none. Even better they let you bring your dog into the pub so we could eat dinner. It’s only a small pub so maybe better to book a table or do what we did as they opened at 12 we sat straight down.

One of the best roasts I've had and definitely the best service I've had.

Food was nice, my partner enjoyed his pie, came freshly cooked, generous portion , and lots of gravy. I thought there wasn't much choice on the menu and unknowingly, looked at the menu on the Web which was different to the menu on the day. I settled for the cheeseburger which was very greesy but tasty, chips were gorgeous, coleslaw was dry and tasteless and I couldn't eat the salad as it had dressing on it, unfortunately I hate dressing. £20.45 for 2 large glasses of red wine, we thought was expensive. Therefore, wouldn't go back there for drinks. However, food was tasty but not much choice on the Menu, the only pasta they had was a vegan lasagne, no fish and chips, and no specials and this was a Saturday evening

You know when you find a gem on a visit to a city, you want to keep it to yourself but some are too good to do that. This is the White Hart Inn. It is a short walk (3 minutes) from the busier city centre, but worth it. It is on the route from Canterbury East rail station when walking to the city centre and near Dane John park. It has the biggest pub garden in the city we were told but it was too cold for us to use. The garden looked lovely and really well kept. We arrived for lunch and had the warmest welcome, from the staff, owners and the roaring log fire. Seating is well spaced, so you don't feel crammed in as you can in some other venues; we had a lovely seat in the bay window. Good choice of drinks and the friendliest service. Our first lunch (yes we went back) was the home made pies, wonderful and lovely fresh seasonal vegetables with mash potatoes. After a day around the city, as we returned to our hotel just around the corner, we had a night cap and several small plates of food to nibble (we recommend the wonderful topped chips too. Chips were lovely and toppings fantastic). Sunday we called back for Sunday lunch - it is the best. If you like good size portions this is your place, the food was beautifully cooked, cannot fault it. There are other options to the roast available should that not be everyone's cup of tea. It felt so comfortable and we were so welcome that this gem must be shared.

Lovely atmosphere, very friendly staff and very well priced drinks. Also met a gorgeous cat in the garden, so would absolutely give 6 stars if I could!

Fantastic hosts, great food and lovely historic pub. Keith, Wendy and team are great hosts. We had a planned lunch for 14 of us and they ensured we had a fabulous time. Wendy is an excellent cook and we all really enjoyed the 3 course meal. Great quality and value. Can’t wait to be back.

Love this pub! Great food, freshly cooked with generous portions. Lovely warm atmosphere with the cosy fire. Outdoor area has a patio leading to a well kept flower garden with plenty of seating and dog friendly. Landlord and lady so accommodating if you want any kind of gathering. Highly recommended for a quiet drink or a planned party.

A brilliant pub with a wonderful selection of drinks and delightful food.

We have always loved this pub but I felt I should leave a much overdue review today. We sought refuge in the pub after there were significant delays on the trains. The service was excellent (as always). Great wine. The staff were most sympathetic to our situation and even loaned us a phone charger! Lovely people. Thank you!

The best Sunday roast In Canterbury

I called on a Sunday with 14 American relatives all wanting a pub lunch with short notice - Keith and his wife and team pulled out all the stops to book us a space (over 3 tables) for 3pm. Everyone was over the moon with the food, service and accommodations (dietary needs, high chair for the little one). I'm a local so I know the food is always good here (tip: try the pies) and is known for Sunday roasts so i was delighted to be able to bring everyone for a true British pub lunch experience - and the staff really did not disappoint. Thank you, Keith, wife (who I recall is called Pam?) and all your patient, kind staff.

Great atmosphere, great Sunday lunch. I asked for carb free and they came up trumps. Recommend!

We had a great 21st birthday party in the white hart for our daughter the landlord and staff were very helpful. The buffet was good and the service for drinks was quick.

Lovely pub with friendly staff and a good drinks selection. If you can sit outside you should as the garden is massive with loads of seating.

Had my husband's 30th birthday party here. Considering it was a bank holiday weekend it wasn't too busy and the owner Keith was more than happy to reserve space both inside and outside for our guests. The buffet was incredible, real range of foods put out and lovely quality. Range of drinks was good, everyone was happy with the beer and drinks on offer. Overall fabulous place to have a party, garden is beautiful (even in the rain), and great atmosphere.

We just want to say a huge thank you to all the staff at the white hart inn, especially Wendy and Keith for providing a tasty and plentiful buffet for my late step father’s wake. Everyone loved the food and the atmosphere and we couldn’t recommend them highly enough. Thank you again for supporting us in giving my step father a lovely send off.

Cute cute cute, a proper pub with a proper beer garden. Lovely beer and the chap that served us was an absolute gent. Will definitely come back to try some food.

We had our wedding reception here in August 2023 of about 45 people. Amazing pub for functions, lovely big garden and some under cover which was handy as it rained. Plenty of space inside too. Keith and his wife were absolutely amazing, super helpful in getting things set up like table decorations etc. We had a buffet and Keith said we wouldn't be disappointed and we certainly weren't. Had lots of positive comments on the food, lots of choice and it was all fresh and plenty more was brought out regularly. All the staff were amazing too. Overall great pub but if you are looking to have a reception or party look no further😃 can't recommend enough! Big thanks to Keith and his wife for making our special day even more special 😊

Dirty glasses, dirty pub, flat beer, limited menu, kitchen miss meals off the order, reheated food only, all round disappointment of a pub.

As a Shepherd Neame house, it suffers from its lack of choice when it comes to beer. I always opt for a Guinness, as it's very difficult to get that one wrong 😂. Lauded as Canterbury's largest beer garden, the outside space is in need of some care; and as a non-smoker, I would appreciate a real real delineation between tables where smoking is permitted and those that are protected space for the majority of people who do not smoke.

Time to explore Canterbury pubs and start with W mean White Hart, Nice location middle in city centre but off the crowd. Great atmosphere and very noticeable. Cool and very friendly staff. Me and my friends were having great time. The choice of drinks were not bad.

A hidden treasure. Rare to find a pub in central Canterbury where you can hear yourself speak.

Great pub. A bunch of us rode down from London early on Saturday, they were cool with us putting our bikes in their garden, plenty of seating, beers were local and the food portions and quality were first class. The staff are superb, helpful and kind. Thanks for the effort

Lovely pub that is very reasonable! Went here with a big group of 10 friends after pre-booking and food was fantastic- piping hot and large portions. Feels like a country pub but in the heart of the city. Would definitely go again and highly recommend!

I live in Canterbury and this pub serves the best Sunday roast dinner in Canterbury. Been twice in a row. It really is superb. About 6 years ago, under old management, I slatted the Sunday roast. Back then it wasn’t good but now it really is awesome and good value.

Always accommodating, friendly staff, lovely venue! We meet here as a group every few months, tables are reserved for us in areas so we can talk but still enjoy the atmosphere of the pub. Can’t wait for the warmer weather so we can enjoy the garden!

Had a great Sunday lunch here with friends. The food was lovely and the team were able to cater for our group's various dietary requirements with a little warning (vegan, lactose free and gluten free options). Also dog-friendly, which was fantastic!

Dropping my daughter off at university after the holidays and wanted to treat her to a nice lunch before we went. And what a treat it was, we all had Sunday roasts and they were delicious and very good value. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming and the staff were friendly. Already planning when we'll be able to return.

A lovely pub, tucked away from the busiest parts of Canterbury, but close enough to be 5 minutes walk from the town centre. Everything about this pub is great. The food is good, the staff are friendly and the atmosphere is warm and cosy...especially with the open fire on. An excellent quiz night on a Tuesday and a massive beer garden make this my favourite pub in Canterbury! 😏👍

Keith proved to be a superb host for my group of friends on Saturday night! He was able to field a variety of dietary requirements and made sure we had an evening that will live long in the memory

Absolutely top service. A special thank you to Keith and his team for fitting 20 of us in and dishing up some excellent food. Especially for accommodating some gluten free and vegetarian members of the stag. All at a really lovely pub right in the heart of Canterbury.

Quite a quiet pub lovely food and service. Seems to be off the beaten track in Canterbury but a good place for a quiet drink. Has become a staple place for me and my friends to have a drink and a catch up. Recommended for a low key drink and good service.

Great little pub off the beaten path. I ordered pepperoni pizza what was hot, gooey and wonderful but I couldn't eat it all. Check out other things on the menu. Lots of choices.

My daughter had her wedding reception at the White hart, you could not ask for a nicer welcome. Food and service both excellent. The garden is really lovely and provided plenty of space for all the guests. I would highly recommend the pub either for a function or a quiet pint.

We had our wedding party at the white hart this summer and it was the perfect setting. The garden is beautiful and the staff couldn’t have been better. Lovely traditional pub off the beaten track. Very friendly, large beer garden and dog friendly. Good choice of Sheps beers. We visited on our way into Canterbury on a day trip with our pup, enjoyed it so much we made it out final stop on the way back. We didn't eat but the food we saw come out also looked top knotch.

22.07.23 a big group of Ladies went to the White Hart Inn for the start of my daughters hen evening. The staff were so friendly and attentive. Very friendly Pub..nice landlord...as It was raining and we had a few tables (Hen Do) lined up in the pretty garden full of flowers ..there was a chill outside and They actually put the outside heaters on for us! what service!! will be visiting again!

We started our hen party here , great atmosphere and very friendly staff , even came and put the outside heaters on for us as it was chilly and we were in the garden under the pergola playing hen party games . We had a fantastic time. Thank you The White Hart. The staff were great .

Lovely place. It has a beautiful, massive garden. The interior is great too. Your typical off the high-street residential pub. The garden is the biggest in Canterbury, they say. It really is great. Shame that they run out of Sunday roast, but never mind…next time.

My fiancé and I held our engagement party here. The owners let us decorate, play our own music and catered for our every need before we ever realised we needed it. We had the buffet and they catered for all intolerances and dietary needs. All the staff were really nice and helpful. Honestly cannot sing their praises enough! Will definitely be coming here again!!

Lovely pub and a nice beer garden

Well,I understand this is a great place in the summer for the beer garden, but it is a great place in December with a warm fire. My family and I were in Canterbury right before Christmas on a cold, rainy day on a recommendation from our guide. After a walk from the Cathedral, a beer and a warm meal in front of a nice fire was just the thing we needed. It totally felt like home with the family around a wooden table. My wife and daughter had a pot pie and the rest of us had the tenderloin and vegetables special. Again, it was great, and the service and setting made you fell like you were having at someone's home. This was the perfect way to cap our visit to Canterbury. I highly recommend you eat here.

Werid atmosphere, doesn't know if it's a pub or a restaurant. Decor seems a bit lacking. Staff friendly enough. Go for the garden in the summer sun but better options for cosy inside winter evening.

I’ve been coming to Canterbury for over 10 years & recently relocated to this beautiful Roman walled haven. Great beer, great location, largest beer garden, and great food - totally recommended.

A wonderful local pub just off the main drag of Canterbury. A nice friendly atmosphere, good food, and wonderful beer.

First time visiting this past weekend, and it was very pleasant experience. Easy to park close by, lovely service from the staff and a great atmosphere inside. Me and my partner had a Pork Sunday lunch, it was delicious and cooked well. The only down side were that the meal was on the smaller side, so I left there still slightly hungry. However I would visit again just because of the atmosphere.

Lovely vibe, fire going, plenty of games, nice mellow crowd, good food and friendly staff!

The White Hart also caters for private parties. I very much enjoyed a friend's birthday party here, when the whole bar was booked for the event. The staff are pleasant and helpful.

This is a good pub for a quiet drink. The beer is well cared-for. In the summer there is a sizeable garden.

Great pub. Friendly atmosphere. Good prices too. We ate and drank here and the pies were lovely too.
