We stayed for two nights, when we arrived we had lunch and my whitebait was good but my partners choice was mediocre. In the evening others joined our group and all of us were disappointed with the food. The next night 5 of us wanted a meal but there was none available other than chips as they said there was a problem in the kitchen. The bar lady then announced last orders at 9pm even though we were residents. The 5 of us had travelled a long distance to a funeral and wanted to catch up for a bit longer but had to leave earlier than we wanted. Be warned, if you are on the ground floor the view out of the patio door is a wall about 2 feet away. I will however say that the bar staff were really friendly and good.

Very nice helpful Lady at check in. Good service for dinner and breakfast. Room a bit tired, bed very hard and pillows very hard (didn't suit my preference but probably fine for others). The worst thing was the toilet seat, I didn't really want to sit on it and definitely didn't want to touch it, it was disgusting (see pictures)

We wanted a overnight stop in a country pub and Wow the White Hart delivered that in big bundles. A very warm welcome and we were due to have a room upstairs, but the staff (young lady) member noticed that I was struggling to walk (having just got out of the car after two hours) so upgraded us to a down stairs room in their new building behind the pub. Which was really good of them and helped us a lot. The room was excellent. The pub seems like the heart of the local area with really friendly locals of all ages. The landlord/manager Jack was so attentive and so helpful. A great atmosphere in the pub with people enjoying themselves young and older! The food was excellent, dinner, steak was cooked to perfection for our choices and chips were fantastic. Breakfast was also prefect. If you need to stop in the area, this has to be the first choice for overnight or longer. Parking is onsite but remember to log your registration number at the bar.

Not in any way as good as it was. The whole place is filthy. Sticky tables, spider webs around the windows, stained fabric on chairs and dusty cushions. The food wasn't a patch on how it was. My roast beef was thick dark brown and tough, the vegetables were ok but not seasoned, the potatoes were an abomination. Obviously frozen and re-heated with no hint of ever being roasted, just cooked enough and reheated which gave them the texture of mush, tasteless mush. The yorkshire pudding was overcooked and dusty. It was a very poor standard of roast dinner compared to before. The place was empty which should have rang alarms bells as it was always packed. It is such a shame as this place was always consistant.

Food, beer and service were ok, watch out for the parking restrictions, there are a few signs in the car park, but nobody in the pub ask if you've parked and there is no obvious tablet to log your registration. If you don't want to add another £100 to your night out keep your wits about you or consider going somewhere else.

First of all we are locals and have been going to this pub for many years. We booked earlier today and was told by staff we hadn't booked. The bar staff who were friendly, were too busy talking to friends and seemed disinterested in people waiting for food. They did not have a children's menu and were not even sure of what specials they had. 3 tables was all that were waiting. We waited 1 hour and 10 mins for food. The positive is the foods was lovely but by the time we got the food then the trip was already ruined. When we gave the feedback the excuse was 'we chased the chef 4 times' no apology or communication on what was going on and what was happening. If I'm honest that is a poor excuse and lack of management. Won't be going again if they can't improve the customer service or wait time, hate to be there if it was busy. Thank you but no thank you.

Well where to even being. Arrived and noticed the parking signs that were not very clear, like others had stated no machine to pay for parking, entered and spoke to staff members asked if I had to pay for parking and was told no, thought no more of it. Sat and had the lunch, could barely even eat it, it was that salty. A pub that had high expectations left me with a salty taste in my mouth quite literally to the point I couldn’t even finish the meal. Fast foreward a week and I come home to a letter of guess what a parking fine, so call the white hart explained what had happened and they advised they got the charge cancelled. Fast foreward another two weeks where the company sent me another letter chasing me for the parking fine increasing it to £100, had to appeal with them to get this cancelled, which luckily I did. Absolutely shocked is an understatement at the service from the white hart. The meal quite frankly was disgusting and the fact it ended up in nearly a parking fine was just absurd. After reading response to others where they have replied asking to contact them and they will get it cancelled I wouldn’t even believe and if you do make sure you get it in writing. Will absolutely not be returning.

What a haven of peace and excellent food, as a break in our journey after delivering the grandchildren back to their parents in Wales after a hectic half term! From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel so welcome by each member of staff. The first beer was wonderful - thanks to Butcombe Gold! Our dinner was amazing and it was so nice to have table service throughout. This was prompt but not hurried. We both had Smoked Trout - yummy! Truffle fries were delicious and the butterscotch on dessert was heavenly!!! Could breakfast get any better - Yes - Avocado on sour dough toast - yummy! Husband said his porridge with stewed fruits and toasted seeds was the best that he ever tasted. We will be back for another stay when we have delivered grandchildren again... Looking forward to it already.

We ate in the restaurant. Service was variable but the biggest complaint was my wife’s meal (chicken pie) was dry, burn and inedible. They took it away and replaced it but left my meal. So my wife watched me eat and then I watched her eat. We were told there would be a discount. my wife and I popped in last Saturday lunchtime and picked this pub as they are dog friendly, which is great. Location is good and generally outside and in the decor is fine, but it's like the last time an overhaul was done was early 2000's (guessing) close examination we could see grime on walls. we both had two rounds of drinks and gammon/egg/chips, which was pleasant enough. my wife had a small bottle of prosecco and i had to ask for a glass, then was offered a pint glass by the young guy behind the bar, which was funny. i showed him him what a flute glass was !!. Outside of this the staff were fine enough and helpful. I didn't question the bill but noticed on the menu that the meal price was high, but did not expect a lunchtime bill of £72.00, ouch. So what i would say is please train staff, or dont have them serve the public. Deep clean the bar area or re-decorate. Review the prices as they are prohibitively high. Thanks

A little disappointed...needs a bit of a shake up. Didn't really feel like I was a resident, I could have been a drifter just passing through. Room was pleasant but cold in the mornings as there was no heating on and the controls on the radiator were broken. Outside temperature in the mornings was between 3 to 5c so not exactly summer temperature's. Being an early riser I don't expect to have a cold bedroom on waking. The quilt on bed was paper thin and after checking if there were other blankets in the room I ended up putting my quilted waist coat on-top to keep me warm overnight. The bathroom is tired and needs a refit, the toilet seat was loose and I mean loose...you could see where they had glued it to try and secure it but that had failed. Breakfast was good and staff were on point. On the Sunday I enquired about the evening meal situation and was told the kitchen closes at 5.30pm but should be ok if I get down before 6.00pm... as I'm a resident I should be fine. I got down before 5.30pm to be told the kitchen was closed and to look elsewhere...nice touch. So I made a few calls and found another restaurant in Wroughton and drove there to have my food...not really what I call service. I stop in a lot of places and some are good and some are average and seem to miss the point and this is one of those. Service is king. I could go on but I wont...its one I will be giving a miss to when I'm next in the area.

Lovely pub with high quality accommodation. However there were a large number of cobwebs decorating the ceiling of our room. Further, the hot tap in the sink dripped all the time we were there. It did not bother us save that it was a terrible waste of hot water. We did mention it to the lady behind the bar who said that she would report it to her supervisor. I have only given a three for location as there really is nothing to do in Wroughton itself. We were meeting friends for lunch and it was a good halfway point for all of us. We stayed so that we did not need to worry about having a few drinks with our meal.

Stained carpet, Blood splat and chips in plaster above the radiator! Breakfast : Mushrooms were dead and past cooking and the bread was rock hard. Our bill was wrong and we were overcharged but it was corrected after I mentioned it. Maybe there has been another change in management? We was really enjoying it and everyone was very accommodating. The reason I did 3 stars was because at 12.30am that night when we was both sleeping we had somebody trying to get into our room. This happened 3 times in total in the early hours. We was both so so scared that none of us went back to sleep again. We have never had an experience like that and we were both very scared. We had a shower and checked out as we was too shaken up to do anything else. Although we didn’t have our free breakfast because we just wanted to leave as soon as possible. Appalling service, extortionate prices and tiny portions of average food. Would never return here , we eat lots of Sunday lunches around the country. This by far ranks in the top two worst for experience and value for money. It is not inviting , starting with registering your car with you having confirm your car on a photograph otherwise you will get a fine. Gives you the feeling straight off this is not going to be a good experience. We were shown to our table and ordered our food, if felt like it was an irritant that we had turned up and broke up the serving staff from their conversations. The place was empty 1pm , so we should of guessed the locals knew better . The roasts we ordered were on the pricey side but we hoped with an empty pub , we would get decent food. Sadly the amount on the plate was very poor and overdone. The chicken was on the bone with no breast at all. Roast potatoes tiny and like bullets. The cabbage was underdone and bitter. We felt cheated and decided to skip desert as the feeling on our table would be miniscule serving , style over substance. During the whole meal no one came to check us or ask if we wanted any more drinks or desert. They just stood by the bar chatting to their mates. We waited and waited and in the end went to the bar to pay our bill. It was not until I had scanned my card I realised they had added a service charge to the bill. What a joke their staff did nothing to say there was any type of service. Avoid this place.

Nice shower room with white towels & complimentary soap etc. Unfortunately there was a trickling hot tap & a constant leak from the cistern into the toilet pan. When I was inspecting the toilet issue it was also clear that under the rim had not been cleaned for some time! No toilet brush was provided which I can understand for hygiene purposes... but that means housekeeping needs to be on the ball. That really is the only reason it didn't get 5 stars.

Went in for lunch. Can't comment on rooms as didn't stay overnight. When we arrived we were told to sit anywhere. No one offered us a menu. I helped myself to a menu from the table near the door. We asked what pie of day was. Were told by waitress she thought it was steak and ale but would check with chef. She never came back to tell us the answer. I has to go and ask her. I ordered 3 steak & ale pies with chips and 2 drinks. I paid as I knew we would not be having anything else. We had just called in for lunch. I paid the amount requested but thought drinks must be expensive as it was more than I thought. I asked for the bill for our records. When I checked the bill I noticed it had 10% service charge added. This irritated me as it is just a pub and I believe tip should be what you wish at the end of the meal and up to that point the service was bad !! The next customer who ordered food at the bar queried her bill as she thought it was more than expected. She was told rather bluntly a 10% service charged was added to the food. .She paid anyway. Next customer asked for the lunch menu (sandwiches) and were told they were not doing that menu. It was the main menu or nothing When the food arrived the pie had plenty of meat but the pastry was a little under cooked. We found a strange object, some kind of stalk, on one plate which was left on the side of the plate and we left. Service was not good ! It was all a bit cold. We will not be visiting again. The place was very quiet and we were there at what should be peak lunchtime. Pub we went in to in next village was packed and we could not get in. Not difficult to see why this one was so quiet.

I cannot rate the rooms because I have not stayed there but I hear that they are very nice. People I work with stay there on a regular basis. I popped in for a catch up with a family member. Only stayed about an hour but was made very welcome. The pub has a nice village vibe about it. Sport on tv. Dart board. Open fire. Great beer and a good food menu. Highly recommended.

I booked a disability access room but was told when I arrived that there was nothing on the system to indicate that I had done so, despite the screenshot in my phone showing the booking, irrespective the level access room was unavailable due to a leak. Disappointingly we were then given a room up a flight of stairs and at the farthest point of the hallway. Would have been nice to have at least been allocated a room on the ground floor to avoid unnecessary stairs for my Wife who can only use a level access shower.. Sadly it got worse as the bed we had was like sleeping in a board and so hard I woke feeling like I hadn’t rested. I would like to say that the food I ate on my first evening was really great, however it was only ok at best and breakfast was almost as though it was somewhat of an inconvenience. This is the second time I have stayed at the WH and on the first occasion it was fine, however I would need to be given a decent reason why I should book to stay again in the future! There are areas of loose paving on the pedestrian route between the rooms and pub entrance which require addressing before someone has a nasty fall, aside of this the pub overall is jaded and in need of some care and attention.

Stopped here. Nice pub, the dog treats sold on the bar seemed a bit pricey but in fact the one we chose was well worth it. Our terrier was delighted with the venison chew which kept him occupied while we ate, and he savoured it over several days.

On arrival, I notified young lady who was sat at table with laptop that I had checked in online and didn’t know what to do next, she seemed a bit uninterested and then took a phone call from her manger whilst dealing with us to give her McDonald’s order, so wasn’t impressed with welcome. I booked a room with disability access as I have mobility issues, but ended up with a room that required me to drag my luggage up the stairs. I would have requested to change rooms, but my daughter didn’t want to make a fuss. There were no instructions regarding breakfast times etc, but plenty about Butcombe chain. Apart from that, stay was okay. Lady who was on breakfast service on the Saturday was very professional

Gorgeous pub, great location, good food, super helpful and friendly staff. The room was attractive, a good size and comfortable too. I have marked it down because the shower cubicle was not of the standard of the rest of the room (rattling and difficult to close), and it showed evidence of mould. Unexpected and disappointing, because apart from that the stay was super - but it was bad enough to affect my opinion of the place.

Bowling night. Buffet was very basic and not a lot of it. Also the room was pretty cold.

Stayed in Room 1, No heating, room not really clean. Toilet and shower area needs a good clean. Bins being emptied at 4am and 5am and was woken up by the noise on a few occasions. Service from the hotel was really good and breakfast was superb.

Very disappointed. Poor value for money. I ordered ravioli as a main course which consisted of six raviolis. The service is extremely slow for food drinks and even the bill

My wife and i stayed after traveling up from Cornwall. The pub is clean and well decorated with a mix of traditional and contemporary decoration. Our accommodation towards the rear of the pub was very clean and modern and to a high standard. The staff were excellent and very friendly. The only minus for us was that although breakfast was advertised, we were only told upon arrival that Continental breakfast was the only option available. The reason being the ongoing Covid situation. For us, a traditional ENGLISH breakfast is an integral part of a stay away from home within this country. We felt that using the Covid situation as a reason was a tad lazy. Especially as the lack of this option was not advertised on the website. So, an excellent place to stay but no English brekkie meant we gave our stay here a 7/10 instead of anything higher.

We live local to this pub but hadn’t been back since the beginning of the year, due to Covid. We booked a table and arrived to a fairly quiet pub, but everything looked very organised and safe. We were shown our table and given menus. The menu looked new from what we remember but still lots to choose from. Service was quick and our food was very nice. There weren’t many in the pub and there was good background music being played which made the whole atmosphere very relaxing. We were full from our mains otherwise We would have squeezed in a dessert! Lovely evening and we’ll definitely be back to our local,

Had previously booked another pub in village which I rang them from & they were able to accommodate us in minutes of ringing - didn't need to pre-book). Staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Food was delicious (actually had what was on the menu). Our dog given treats on arrival, very prompt & friendly service would definitely recommend.

Arrived at pub with friends for get together, ordered our meal, an hour later, l assume the landlord, came back and said we were next, we heard him talking to the next table that there was a 45 min wait but we were not told that, he came out with our mains, said 4 of us hadn't had starters yet, disappeared with mains, came back again and said this is the options have mains as they were ready then have starters, not have the starters and have free puds, we settled on the mains no starters, the food was nice just took an age to get it, we had puds after another wait, then coffee, bill came and we had the coffees free and 10% of the bill, there just seemed to be 3 members of staff rushing about front of house, with the long wait and getting meals wrong and service won't be going back there in a hurry.

The staff were not very attentive, we had to wait ages to be served, even though there were few people in the pub.The food was plentiful and would have been really delicious if it had come out piping hot. Attention to these small details unfortunately has not impressed me, and I have always enjoyed my meals here in the past.

What a very pleasant surprise. Friends midweek curry night. I didn’t expect anything for me as vegan isn’t usually on the ‘curry and a pint’ menu but hey’ a gorgeously delicious Thai curry. Wowzers! Super duper splendid. We’ll be back!

We’ve been coming here for over 12 years now and the pub has been under various managers and todays Sunday lunch was by far the best yet! All the vegetables were fresh, the meat was cooked perfectly, we had both the beef and the turkey and could not fault either! The cauliflower cheese as a side is a must, although not a necessity, as there is plenty of veg that comes with the dinner! No skimping on the roast potatoes either! Staff were very attentive and service was good! We’ll look forward to seeing you next time!

We had booked a family Christmas meal... and were really looking forward to it.Almost £7 for shop bought pate (There us no way it was homemade) and 3 triangles of toast so not even a whole slice... extremely poor value.Beef was nicely cooked but the sauce was bland, mash was average, vegetables overcooked... Just an very average meal.

Chose to stay here because of it’s thatched roof and quaint English pub appeal. Room was clean and modern. Couldn’t eat in the evening as they weren’t serving meals, but they recommended The Fox and Hounds just up the road, which was excellent. Breakfast at The White Hart was very good.

I don’t normally enjoy a pub roast favouring a home cooked one every time, BUT the White Hart’s roast is the exception. Home cooked dinner in a pub atmosphere. Great job!
