Love this place. Went for Sunday lunch. Staff were very helpful. A couple of menu items were off, but the staff suggested alternatives that were delicious.

It's our second trip to The White Hart for a Sunday roast, neither times were a disappointment. The meat was delicious and the veg platter delicious. Puddings were spot on (can't really go wrong with a sticky toffee pud!) Staff welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend!

We have just moved to the town and thought we'd check out our new local. What a lovely surprise we had. Lovely interior, welcoming staff and huge garden area. The Sunday roast was sensational! More than our family of 6 could manage and every element delicious. With a veggie and a vegan in the group, we are used to some issues, but the team at the White Hart had two options, which were both hoovered up. A real gem and worth the trip. Just off the Tarka Trail for any of you hungry walkers.

Following a visit May 2023, we were excited to return again after our previous excellent experience (see previous review). This time however we left very dissatisfied and disappointed. Whilst the presentation was the same and the veggies very good the meat was inedible. It was too tough to even cut it let alone chew it. My husband complained and they re cooked some other meat, however, this was no better. We were given a 10% discount but this didn’t really reflect our experience as we both ended up only eating the veg. The waitress was very apologetic and did her best with the situation. One other observation was we were the only customers in the restaurant the whole time we were there 12 - 1.15pm Sunday lunch time. which perhaps reflects local options. Unfortunately we won’t be returning.

Good has been really good every time I have been here, full of flavour and not over priced for the quality of food. Cocktails really great! But only when someone is trained on as I have had a few times not able to have one due to staff not able to make them but that has been when there has been when they are not busy. But the service is always really friendly. Will definitely be back.

The owners have created a lovely surprising space in North Tawton. Definitely worth a visit. Good coffee, cocktail selection and evening menu. We had the Sunday Roast and whilst all the components were fresh and tasty it was cold which was disappointing.

absolutely outstanding, perfectly seasoned and cooked lamb, a fantastically novel way of presenting the most beautifully cooked veg, roaring fire, great service and staff and lovely kept beer. will definitely recommend this place to anybody who wants the best Sunday lunch around. Wild Horses wont stop me going back again. 11/10

This is the third time we have eaten at the White Hart and the food has always been delicious and last Sundays roast was excellent and well presented. If you love your veggies too, you will be in for treat! The service is exceptional and there is a great atmosphere in the pub. It is certainly worth a visit and reasonably priced.

Just to recognise that Anabelle, and her patients and willingness to help, with people with food issues, my sons Vegan and I have allergies. Also to James and Ryan the chefs for accomodating. Nothing was to much, and they made off the menu meals to accommodate my son. The food and service was great. Thank you 😊

The hosts are very welcoming. The decor is well done and they welcome dogs. The food was excellent and the serving staff were very attentive. Highly recommend for a good very tasty meal in a lovely surrounding. The otter brewery beer is wonderful.

Since the establishment has been talen over by Chef Bennet, and he has put his unique marque on the premises by tasteful redecoration, adding ambience, and brightness plus superb food offerings the place is well worth a visit. The attentive young crew are a credit to the team, not over attentive, but attentive enough to make dining out there a pleasant experience. Steak cooked perfectly, with *just* the right amount of skill, and an extraordinary platter of sides servce uniquely on a wooden tray for a couple to dissect and share was a delight. I have to admit being a pudding person, the sticky toffee pudding needed weights on it to prevent it from floating away !... Superbly light and flavoursome with a splash of cream and exaclty the right end for a super meal. Be sure to experience the frienly locals, happy dogs, smiley staff, and a frienly welcome ....

Never having been to the pub before, I wasn't sure what to expect. However, the recent advertisement showcasing creative cocktails and a diverse menu piqued my interest. Although we faced some trouble parking and had difficulty finding the entrance, once inside, the cozy, well-lit space with a clean, modern yet rustic vibe welcomed us. The chef and staff greeted us promptly, and after ordering drinks, we were escorted to our pre-booked table. Despite a fireplace opposite our table being unlit (it was a little chilly and having this lit would have enhanced the experience more), the room's high ceiling with beautiful wooden beams and clever use of foliage created a charming ambiance. The only drawback was the outdated state of the toilets, but since it wasn't the primary reason for our visit, I won't dwell on it. Opting for a lighter meal, I ordered the whipped goat cheese, while others at the table enjoyed steak with a side of onion rings. Eager to explore the advertised cocktails, I chose a "bathtub" concoction, featuring a funky presentation with cute little ducks in a blue drink. To our surprise, the shower in the presentation worked, leading to a humorous spill, adding to the evening's charm. Our food, beautifully presented with generous portions, received unanimous praise for its taste. The attentive staff struck a perfect balance, being helpful without being overly intrusive. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening, and we look forward to returning.

Lovely pub with great service from the young waiter and waitress. Unfortunately the food I ordered was awful. The young waiter said he would tell the chef and offered to take it back. I was with a group, hungry and not wanting to wait for it to be reheated. Then when collecting the dishes the young waitress went and got the manageress. I told her about my meal being cold and not what it sounded like on the menu. Was offered a drink, not helpful when driving. Then go to pay and get charged full price! If you visit, don’t order the belly pork, order the fish n chips- that looked lovely.

Excellent food! slightly let down by the little touches, went for Sunday roasts, no roasts menus or info boards so no idea they actually did them unless you ask... beef was good, the whole plaice was served with a Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes which was a first, slight issue with dessert menu options but what was served was all delicious! 🙂

Well what can I say …… there aren’t words to describe the incredible experience and hospitality we received. I can honestly say I have never had a meal as amazing as what I did. It was my mums and mum in laws birthday and we booked a table. We were greeted with balloons and birthday wishes from every member of staff. Despite having a power cut this morning and having to cancel other bookings they honoured our booking. We had the most amazing Sunday lunch you could ever wish for. I have never had a meal as amazing as what we were provided with. The owners are just incredible. Thank you so much. A true hidden gem in the heart of the Devonshire countryside.

Absolutely fantastic lunch. A couple of small plates and a couple of sides - there's a serious chef in the open kitchen and I couldn't fault a thing. Scallops with a beautifully balance lobster jus, Chicken Forrestier was deeply mushroomy and perfectly seasoned. The service was also attentive without being intrusive - They also have Amber Fresh on the bar from Otter Brewery which washed it all down beautifully.

I have seen a couple of negative reviews recently have no idea why as I can only say what a wonderfull place this is, have never disappointed us, eaten over two dozen times thanks to all the staff and James & Becca

We visited here for my partners birthday last week and were so surprised at the complete transformation of the place! The food, service & atmosphere were 5 star and if we could give it more than 5 stars we would! The staff were very attentive, food was absolutely incredible (probably the best steak we’ve had) and the atmosphere was just lovely. The cocktails are a must also! Just what this beautiful little pub needed! Well done guys 👏🏻🥳

had a few drinks in a delightful beer garden sat at the top. People were eating and the food did look and smell very good. will definitely go again and have a meal as highly recommended by my son who lives across the road.

We had a meal here early in the week. We had a table booked in advance but were disappointed to find that even the basic things were not available, like lemon and lime for drinks. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed although the restaurant was quiet. The service was good and friendly. Be aware when ordering the small plates that the portions are very small and you’ll need several to get a reasonable size portion. The food was tasty but could have been a little warmer. The idea of having the small plates(tapas) is a good one however the table for 4 would need to be a little bigger as we struggled to get all the plates on the table along with drinks. Price wise it was reasonably expensive per person as the portions are quite small.

Heard a lot of good things about this place, took friends for a birthday dinner and was really disappointed, not sure if it was because it was a Monday but things not available on the menu, no lemons or limes for our drinks, table not very clean, the food in itself was ok but really expensive for what it is, cocktails were a massive disappointment, young lady serving table was polite and friendly but sadly we won’t be rushing back.

We had a lovely roast dinner there today, well presented and lots of options. The price was very reasonable and the staff were really friendly. Roast potatoes in particular were so good. There are lots of gluten free options and the building is nicely presented.

Came for dinner this evening with my friend and son. I heard lots of good comments about this place and it really did not disappoint!! The food was amazing, we had a selection of the small dishes and it was presented beautifully and was delicious. The cocktails were great, I live locally and there is not many places you can get such a selection of cocktails so it was a nice treat. The service was fantastic , staff very welcoming and polite , nothing was too much trouble. Good prices for what you get . Will definitely recommend and be returning again soon .

The service is faultless, so so so refreshing to meet wait staff and chefs that are so genuinely pleased to see you, bubbly and friendly. Squeezed us in as they were about to close, incredible given we are a table of 12. Highly recommend. Would value an online menu so we can drool in advance of arriving ☺️☺️

Amazing service and kind staff, they're always looking out for others and trying their best. Their coffee is to die for and their food is some of the best I've heard, well worth visiting if you're in the town, they've brought the spark back to this pub for sure!

We'll be back for sure!, yet another NEW OWNER since my review I've not been in yet, but I've heard the beer is a bit pricey, but still has a good atmosphere, live music fairly regularly and they are also serving food, check their website out for more information.

First day for the new publicans, Jen and Steve. They managed to combine working extremely hard with being friendly and welcoming. Quite an achievement! Good atmosphere in the garden - everyone enjoying themselves. Will be back soon . . .

Such a welcoming pub, with a great selection of beers, spirits and wines. The Beer Garden is great in the summer and they also have a big function room to accommodate those special occasions. It's very deceiving from the outside, so make sure you pay a visit when you're next passing :)

What a fabulous and friendly pub! We were well looked after and the landlord went above and beyond to make my 11 year old daughter welcome. Really like it here and would highly recommend.

Very friendly and welcoming local pub. Good food selection and reasonably priced. They have Sky sports and a decent outside space.

Good beer, had a pint of half bore and a pint of Skinner's IPA, both great! Chilled , clearly the locals like horse racing! It was on the TV on a Saturday afternoon. I sat out in the beer garden, good way to spend a summers day👍

This is our local. Always a warm welcome from the landlords & locals. Great food & drink at reasonable prices. Also dog friendly, with treats on offer for your pooch!

We stopped off to have something to eat. Excellent service and food had the Hunters chicken and hubby had the homemade burger mum also had the Hunters chicken and dad had the gammon steak

Service was ok but my steak was gristly. Tables clean, comfortable seating where we sat. Better places to eat in the town.

We were minding our business playing pool and darts and the awful landlady came up saying about sitting on the pool table, and I quote ‘if you can’t respect that you will leave’.”. Now we had no warning about this, nor were there any signs that we were doing wrong. She was out of order, exceptionally rude, and due to her attitude, 7 people left the pub. All she needed to do was have a friendly’ chat and ask please can you not sit on the pool table, which of course would be fine.

Arrived here on Friday night after a very long car journey. The bar staff were very welcoming and the landlady couldn’t have been more accommodating. Two of our party arrived late and they kept the kitchen open for them . Good pub grub , reasonably priced and just what we wanted after a long drive. Definitely worth a visit. Ps we love the pub dog - max.

Saw a local live band here, good band, good venue pleasant clean pub. 3* because layout meant having to squeeze by people using the bar to get to band space it was very busy. Waited quite some time to be served (however they were busy) on the plus there were people watching live boxing in another part of the pub which was also televised in the band area without sound. I don't know weather they do food only experienced band /boxing.

Fuimos allí para una comida rápida. Casera es muy agradable y amable y nos hizo sentir bienvenidos. La comida es de buena calidad y tienen una enorme variedad de bebidas. Me alegra ver que ahora es un lugar acogedor. Fuimos hace unos años y la vieja casera era una pesadilla.Volveremos.

Nos detuvimos para cenar temprano y la bienvenida fue cálida y amable. El menú era lo suficientemente variada y todos disfrutamos de nuestras cenas, incluidos los niños. Nada pretencioso, buena comida de pub sabroso y bien preparado. Buen servicio y parece un lugar popular para los lugareños.

Estábamos cerca de North Tawton ayudando a mover la familia de leer para el mercado de la ciudad de North Tawton, y como su casa no estaba listo para usar inmediatamente como su mobiliario se retraso 2 DIAS, el White Hart justo abajo de la calle era nuestra mejor opción. Para ser una ciudad de mercado relativamente pequeñas, bien provisto con 3 pubs. El White Hart es un edificio antiguo con mucho cob carácter y encanto. Personal simpático, nos saludó y nos trataron como si fuésemos clientes habituales. Eran para ofrecer un servicio de bebidas mientras que elija.Había mucha variedad de comidas y no tuvimos ningún problema de elegir, y el dulces eran igual de tentadores que probamos puramente por tripadvisor, por supuesto. Como se espera que tenía que probar el café y la puedo recomendar, sin duda sí. Mi único comentario sería el de los precios, pero como la ciudad está lejos de ciudades importantes pueden ser la norma. No nos vamos de nuevo, y por desgracia ellos perdida cuando podíamos comer en la casa. Todo en un nivel, así que imagino que es bueno para personas de movilidad reducida, excepto no hice uso de los aseos, así que no puedo comentar sobre ellos o el jardín. También tienen wifi, que es bueno como conseguir internet en la zona no es buena.

Amazing, friendly pub in the centre of this lovely town. Food is good and unfussy and they cater for children as well. The large beer garden and excellent wifi make it a favourite with families as well as adults

Como la lluvia nos dieron más pesada que decidimos buscar algún sitio para parar hasta la ducha aprobado.Como eso tuvimos suerte encontramos el corazón blancoes un poco Tardis, parece minúsculo, pero al entrar en reveló un bien cuidado, limpio y ordenado bar grande. Me gustó la cocina abierta. Una charla con el chef nos pide el desayuno. Café caliente de Aira nos calentábamosAl igual que la amabilidad del propietario, el personal y los clientes.2 buenos desayunos gigantes de calidad y 4 cafés llegaron a menos de £20, gran relación calidad-precio, y de buena calidad.Sin duda, un lugar de noche de verano para añadir a nuestra lista.

The White Hart is a welcoming pub - good to visit for a family meal or a social pint either inside or in the pleasant garden area on a sunny day.
