Over the decades I found myself pulled by nature to this extraordinary village: many times a girlfriend and I would find ourselves entranced by it, and at its epicentre, this welcoming gorgeous pub. OUTSTANDING.

For several years we had talked about visiting the Leaping Salmon, but never actually found the time. What we have missed!!! We popped in for lunch and found a lovely warming fire, a very welcoming and friendly reception and a thoroughly relaxing atmosphere. My companion had the scallop pie, while I tucked into a lentil dhal. We shared a bowl of triple cooked chips and the whole was a delightful repas for a grey Saturday afternoon. We will certainly be back.

We love going here! The food is always delicious and we highly recommend their autumnal cocktail range! The atmosphere is cosy with the fireplace and fairy lights and the people who work there are a delight! We also go there on occasion for breakfast (the crumpets are the best I've ever had). A perfect place to go for relaxing and being cosy while it's chilly outside.

We went to the Leaping Salmon on Saturday and found it to be just a great experience. We took the chance and asked if there was any of the lamb which was on the Internet but not on the menu when we went. Ben the owner came over and said we was in luck. Five of us out of 7 decided to go with the lamb and it was just great. I personally had the Calamari in chilli for starters which is the best I have had for along time. I wish Ben and the team all the best for the future. We will be back.

We stayed in one of the rooms above the pub, due to a family event nearby. The room was spotlessly clean and very large. Tea/Coffee were provided, plus a powerful hairdryer. The bedlinen was lovely 100% organic cotton, which made getting to sleep simply a 'dream!' The shower was roomy, very good pressure and as hot as you liked it. Maybe the best aspect though, was the room's position next to the River Walkham. The pub takes it's name from the salmon that actually leap through the river in Autumn. We kept the window open so that we could hear it's delightful gurgling all through the night. We also heard the sonorous chimes of a local church bell, which made our experience even more enjoyable. Our hostess was very amenable and generous, particularly considering we'd forgotten to book our last night's stay. Overall, a wonderful experience and we'll definitely return.

Enjoyed a gorgeous Sunday lunch in this really characterful pub. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful, with very attentive service. A good choice of local ales from the bar and a great selection of food on the menu. Various options for a traditional roast. A large portion of beef brisket came with loads of vegetables on the side. The hake with mussels and lobster sauce was savoured by those who had opted for it and the Thai curry was equally delicious. Deserts were equally impressive - with lovely home made ice creams. All in all, a great place to eat at and I would highly recommend a visit. We will definitely be returning!

This is a lovely local pub in the village It has a contemporary vibe & the interior has been thoughtfully designed . The staff were really helpful & friendly. They had a good selection of drinks including a cocktail menu with some interesting choices like limoncello spritz. The menu is more gastro pub ..& there was a good choice including vegetarian options.Im sure if you’re vegan it would be fine as the menu was flexible . Lovely drinks, I had a coconut gin ( good selection gins)& the food ,delicious .I had sea bass & triple cooked chips lovely & crispy. Then a marmalade crème brûlée. Breakfast spot on and homemade crumpets not something we had ever tried before. Rooms are clean with a decent sized en suite shower room (being ultra picky, could do with a refresh of mastic in the shower). No TV but decent WiFi. Family room had futons for children but probably not too comfy for older children. Will visit again!

I have seldom enthused as much simply on being greeted by the staff. They were welcoming and really helpful without being intrusive. The food was clever and excellent. The menu is designed to be flexible and priced accordingly. We ended up choosing a number of "small plates" and sharing, "tapas" style. I would happily have chosen any and all the items on the menu and, if our choices were anything to go by, they would have been excellent. The decor is subtle but quietly chic but won't put off genuine locals. Definitely the best pub I've been to in a very long time. A 100% recommend.

If you want a good nights sleep, DO NOT STOP HERE! I,m posting this after the gentlemen directly below my room, 1, in the pub kitchen, came in at 4am and decided to make as much noise as he could. At4:30 am after very load banging I had enough and went down stairs to see what all the banging was. He has a rolling pin out so I’m guessing he was opening walnuts?! Unbelevably, he had headphones on so didn’t have a clue how much noise he was making. When I told him he’d awoken me at 4am he seemed nonplussed and said he had work to do! Just what I needed after a hard days work and a long drive today. The guy needs to realise you don’t treat paying guests like this……..he needs retraining!

Review for the restaurant. We've eaten here a few times now and I'm always impressed. The menu is small which is nothing but a good thing as everything on it is perfectly executed. I've had a standout Sunday lunch, an excellent burger and some really delicious fish dishes. They've got a nice selection of local beers and ciders and a big menu of wine and other drinks. The atmosphere is cosy, particularly in the winter with the fire going. Though there is also a nice beer garden with views over the village. I've not had their brunch, but I think that's next on the cards.

This place just gets better and better. Food aside, you are made to feel so welcome from the minute you walk in. All the staff are friendly and cant do enough to please you, from advice re menu choices and highly attentive service right through to it all being done with a smile and good humour during a busy service. We particularly appreciated the wonderful staff and service as recently we had a couple of dreadful experiences in a “rival” gastro pub on the edges of nearby Tavistock town centre. Here the lady in charge met every simple request or question with a huffy sigh and totally reluctant service. I think she would have been much better pleased to be running a pub in the absence of customers. I kid you not! We know a number of other people who have had the same experience. The food was amazing with a limited but sustainably sourced yet still varied menu. There were a number of things we could all have chosen and so we kept changing our minds, but the lovely chatty and friendly waitress was so helpful in respect of assisting us in our choices.Bens baked cheese starter - WOW ! All of us could have eaten it all evening long, the rib pieces were melt in the mouth, and the rump of lamb cooked to perfection. Everything was perfect. The new cocktail menu is also amazing with combinations of flavours and different spirits that was so inventive and unusual. They were all “proper” cocktails with at least two different kinds of liquor or spirits in them (unlike those pretend ones just made of one spirit and a mixer - not proper cocktails at all) The wine list and choice of beers is also brilliant. A bit more pricey than some places but definitely worth the money. You usually do get what you pay for! Last but not least, it was great that the chef Ben came out and checked personally with all the diners that everything was OK. It shows a real dedication to customer satisfaction to pay such attention to ensure that customers are enjoying their experience, especially when youre very busy. All in all a fantastically friendly, cosy and well run ethical and sustainable establishment. Do not hesitate to try it as it will NOT disappoint. I think from now on we will definitely be xoming here rather than the other place in Tavistock and will recommend friends and family to do the same.

Oh. My. Days. This is by far the best place I’ve eaten in a long long time and we eat out a lot. Went as a family of 6 - 2 children. Honestly I cannot praise this beautiful pub enough. From the warm welcome, the beautiful ambience, the incredible food and the wonderful chef I could not fault the place. Food was impeccable. A careful chosen menu of hand cooked with love local cuisine. Something for everyone on the menu. I’m always so so wary of anywhere with a huge menu - this place has just the perfect amount o cater for everyone. There was a selection of family games available to play over dinner, beautiful wines, incredible cocktails and dishes you literally cannot say no to. If you try only one thing on the menu let it be Bens cheese creamy sauce. An absolute delicacy especially with the triple cooked chips oh I cannot even express how beautiful they were. Fairly price, incredible quality, amazing chef who came out to speak to patrons and a waiting staff that literally could not do enough for you. If I could rate it a million stars I would. Go. You will not be disappointed. Thank you so much and we will definitely be back xxx

The warm welcome we received was so nice especially as we had our German Shepherd Rizzo with us. We had a brilliant experience at The Leaping Salmon. The food was mouth-watering, and the ale tasted good too! We sat next to the fire and it was an altogether cosy and enjoyable time.

Local pub with a local feel. Excellent home-cooked food - but not all standard fare - Pumpkin and coconut curry was excellent.

Great local sports bar with friendly landlords. Very competitively priced. Take my Tavistock u14 football team back there on a Saturday and they do a great sausage and chips.

Really disappointing. We came here last uear and everything was incredible. But....called earlier this year and was told they were shut til Summer. Called again last week and I couldn't believe it when I was told they are shut til next Summer. What?? Autumn and Winter are critical months for any hotel or BandB. Do these people actually want to stay afloat? Crazy.

Officious lady behind bar. Not the landlord by the way. Good meals. Menu a bit stayed if you are local.

Love this place. Went for Sunday lunch. Staff were very helpful. A couple of menu items were off, but the staff suggested alternatives that were delicious.

This cafe is a gem. Price was great full breakfast with a tea and a orange juice for under £10 was delicious. Great atmosphere with great staff thanks again 👍
