Good pub grub , it's not pretending to be gastro pub ,good selection of beer and excellent service

Stopped off here for a pint after a long hike on the Moor. Good selection of beer. Sat in the shady beer garden under an apple tree and enjoyed a well earned pint of Tavistock Ale and a packet of crisps (salt n vinegar) if you're interested!

Unfortunately most if not every table are allowed to be reserved so just dropping by isnt really an option it seems. Its a shame the pub has lost its traditional country pub look inside and has been "Gastro-ised". However its pleasant inside in the gastro style and friendly,serving staff are great and the food is good. Quite good portions of food too which is nice to see

We phoned and were able to get a table straight away - we were allowed to bring the dog. We were welcomed by a lovely lady (she took the phone booking too) - nothing was too much trouble and she had such a warm manner. She even bought us a bowl of water for our dog. The food was exceptional and lots of it! It was fresh and delicious - all served and presented beautifully. You could tell it was good quality and cooked with care. We hadn’t intended to go to this pub but there was nothing on offer in Tavistock but we are delighted that we did and will definitely be returning!

Orange an lemonade over 6 pound a pint but roast was amazing

Fantastic place great food and beers real ale the staff our exceptional jack was knowledgeable and very professional good sense of humour and polite the food had options to have a smsll main meal if couldn't eat the full main which is big for some people all in all a great experience it's between 10 and 26 pounds so not much considering the quality 😀 😋

What a great place!!! We came out of the hills on our mountain bikes and wanted something to eat. It started to rain, and suddenly there was the Peter Tavy Inn. We did not immediately understand the system for ordering at the bar, but the owner came to tell us with a cheerful smile and simply took our order for convenience. Chicken Curry for me and Pie & Stilton for Kirsty. Heavenly, so tasty. Just add 2 cokes for the much-needed sugar and a double espresso afterwards. We could take on the whole world again. Highly, highly recommended!!!!

Food is always good but the waiting times were exceptionally slow last time, we had to wait over 45 for sweet order to arrive and inlaws fell asleep. Hopefully problems will be resolved, service had been more efficient previously.

Came here for lunch with friends. This was my first time and definitely won’t be the last. The pub is cosy and full of character. It was really busy, being a lovely summer’s day, but this didn’t cause any issues with service. All staff were very efficient and helpful. The four of us ordered different meals but they came out at the same time and all were delicious and good value. Good size car park also,

A hidden gem tucked away from the main road. Very busy but we did manage to get a table. Excellent food , well prepared and cooked. Nice selection of beers.

Nice place, friendly staff FOH, shame they can't cook a decent steak. After waiting a long time (maybe 40 minutes as they had a large table who had just ordered) for our food, the steak came and was over done and under done at the same time. Zero charing on the outside, light brown and sloppy, but also barely pink on the inside. If you can't cook a good steak, take it off the menu. I do get pretty fed up of paying top whack for a meal, only for it to be worse than I could have made at home, and after such a wait, I didn't want to wait longer and send it back. We were asked if we wanted desert, which we declined. One of the more senior members of staff then came out and apologised about the steak (as I did say something when they brought it out) and then said "you didn't want a desert, we would have let you have it free", which I honestly don't believe for a second. They way she said it left no room for us to change our minds. I won't be going back.

Great little pub we couldn't resist stopping at on our cycle ride. Really friendly staff and good pint of Jail Ale. Didn't eat but might plan in lunch there next time

Lovely old English country pub with good food and local ales. No pool table, juke box, gambling machines or dart board.

All 4 of us can honestly say that the Steak & Stolton Pie & the Chicken, Ham & Leek pie were the BEST weve ever had!! Jam-packed full of meat, melt on the mouth pastry served piping hot on hot plates. The saute potatoes & veg were also piping hot & all cooked to perfection. We were offered a top-up on the veg if we needed, but the portions were so generous, we didn't need any extra. I'd planned to have a pudding, but couldn't fit one in! The service was excellent & very friendly. Lovely atmosphere. Will deffinately be going again.

All I can say is 5 of us had meals and we all enjoy our food, friendly staff good atmosphere, would recommend, and we will be going back.

Been coming for years - an absolutely quality pub. Great food, accommodating staff and good beer. Parking can get full quickly but there is ample street parking around the church.

Friendly, attentive service. Good food, without a long wait. Nice but small garden. Dessert was very good.

Didn't book on a bank holiday, but they squeezed us in and said they have a table free for 1.5 hours. I had the steak and Stilton pie after reading the reviews on here....very impressed, it was AMAZING pie. Wife had the brie and cranberry pannini, which she enjoyed. Thanks to the lovely staff there for squeezing us in. All the food around us looked amazing too.

We have been coming here for 10+ years as a family and it's always been fantastic - the steak and stilton almost always our go to but the rest of the menu has been just as good. Highly recommend for a visit

Had lunch on a lovely sunny day. Sat outside and enjoyed a good lunch. Vegan menu lunch menu as well as traditional menu was very welcome. Fast service, good food, good selection of beer and wine. Have booked for dinner later this week.

What a lovely pub, a group of us stopped for lunch and they managed to accommodate us despite being busy. The service was excwllent, the food v tasty with good size portionsand excellent value for money. Happy to recommend.

Lovely old pub. Been a couple of times both busy and friendly. Very traditional well cooked food. Staff friendly and service efficient but no hurried. Sat with a bowl of rich lamb stew next to a log burner, couldn't ask for much more.

Tucked away in a small village / farming community. A beautiful pub that serves excellent food. The staff and table service during the evening is very good.

A close family get-together. Pub had been very busy, always a good sign. We were a latish booking. 8 o'clock was the earliest (other than 6:30 - too early for us) that we could be fitted in. 3 of 4 meals, excellent... curry was considered a tad bland. Shared starters excellent as we're the shared desserts. We are not regulars, but on each of the three visits over the past 5 years, we've come away feeling that we'd had an excellent time. In hindsight, 8 o'clock for such rich dishes is a bit late to eat these days for an old man like me, especially when one has to work the next day.

Lovely old venue with a warm a welcoming staff team with great menu and excellent quality food. Caters for all dietary needs. I can comment on vegetarian menu which was superb. Will definitely visit again when in this area again.

A very nice Sunday lunch served by charming young staff. There was no parking so nearly cancelled the booking but managed to park way up the road and walk back.

Best steak and Stilton pie ever!! Always consistent quality of; food, staff friendliness, drinks selection, service and feel about the place. Hidden gem with Ample parking and nice outdoor space for the summer months.

A beautiful and historic inn on the edge of Dartmoor with a generous menu which can be enjoyed in a cosy environment marred by their hospitality of the local Spooners & West Dartmoor Hunt, a local [fox] hunting group who opperate under the guise of 'trail hunting'. Lead by a man with a nefarious past, this group terrorise the local wildlife, trample across private property and intimmidate locals, and have been witnessed illegally killing foxes. Very sad that this pub hosts and thus supports them when so many in central Tavistock have cancelled and refused their bookings. Won't be visiting again unless they stop supporting illegal hunting.

The best pub and best Sunday roast in the South of England. Full stop. My 4th visit and it's beyond excellent every time.

We went on Monday and it was lovely, so we went again on Saturday and it was still good. So we went back on Sunday. Need I say more.

Popped in for lunch. Ordered a cheese baguette and it was so big I had to take half home! And good value for money. This is a tucked away country pub well worth a visit but would advise booking or getting there early as it's small and not loads of room. Food service was at little slow but it was very busy. Would certainly visit again.

A great, classic pub on Dartmoor. The scenery is quaint, the staff are friendly and the food was excellent. The main dining area has walls lined with old school, hand drawn cartoons from a variety of artists for you to read through as you wait for your food. This is a nice touch as it gives the Peter Tavy Inn some character in contrast to what you would typically expect from a pub interior. This is then complemented with friendly and attentive service as well as generous portion sizes to refuel after a long day's hike or hard week's graft. The sticky chorizo starter and roast beef were excellent, but the highlight was the slab of steak and stilton pie! Topped off with a beautiful sticky toffee pudding. Overall a great experience only sullied by one of the locals being rude to my partner as we were paying. Not the pub's fault but something to be wary of. Superb!

One of the waitresses was quite miserable, others were pleasant. The food left a lot to be desired considering it was a Christmas roast. I was with my family and the atmosphere was very good

Although the food was OK, I would say it was a lot better last year (Christmas meal). The young waiting staff were very pleasant. ,unfortunately, older female staff member wasn't so pleasant.

Just enjoyed a lovely Christmas lunch here with friends. Everything delicious and service very smooth, even though they were very busy. Best Xmas pudding I have ever tasted! Thank you Chris and Jo.

Pensioners meals and prices gd.

Being gluten and garlic intolerant, I was totally impressed by the way the restaurant went out of its way to accommodate. A special dish was prepared for me which was superb. What a wonderful evening! No one leaves here hungry!

Probably the best lunch I have ever had. I am 71 years old and the option of pensioner portions is such a good idea. The food was delicious and the price exceptional for the quality provided in all departments. A must return visit whenever I am in the location again.

After pitching up at the campsite down the road on a cold, wet October evening, we decided we didn't want to cook, so we drove up to Peter Tavy Inn. We didn't book ahead as it was a spontaneous visit. We were seated quickly despite there being 9 of us. The service was excellent, food delicious, friendly staff working. Our biggest compliment comes in regards to allergies though. Our friends have a child with a nut allergy and our youngest has a dairy allergy (both carry epipens, so serious). Upon explaining this to the lady taking our order, the chef wasn't happy cooking the food he wanted due to a risk of cross contamination. We worked together and found a solution we were all happy with and we enjoyed our food and visit so much, we've booked to come back on Friday evening before we go home on Saturday. Thank you so much for being so accommodating understanding and knowledgeable. Certainly our best eating out with allergies experience to date!!

Have always had a great time here. Food always good. However on this occasion, the welcome was abrupt (not the normal couple we usually see) and there was a smell of urine in the lower room. Also my friend went to the loo and came back saying that he was met with the most disgusting smell. Problem with sewerage? It was my friend's first visit there and I was disappointed for him. On a positive note the serving staff were brilliant as always.

Ate here last evening. Probably 4th or 5th visit and never disappointed. Lovely atmosphere with warming fire to watch, friendly staff, good menu and well cooked food. Totally recommend!

Tasty food. My friend had a pie she thoroughly enjoyed and I had a prawn baguette that was very tasty, baguette was warm. Generous filling in both meals.

An honestly delightful village pub with heaps of character. The atmosphere is lovely, and the staff were very friendly and helpful, happily accommodating 6 of us late in lunch - the food is also incredible! One of my favourite pubs in Devon

Really lovely country pub. Great food, with good options for everyone. Really friendly good service. Good prices and a good choice of drinks. I enjoyed trying the Tavistock brewery options, very good. We will be back soon and certainly telling our friends. Went back yesterday on a Thursday, lucky we went late, as every table had been taken up until 5 minutes before, booking might be a good idea! Food, drink & service was great again, really excellent pub.

Came here on the off chance they did food ,as place we had booked a table, lied and didn't cater for our dietary requirements. Wow great atmosphere, and staff so lovely and helpful, my partner is vegetarian/vegan so they gave him his own menu plenty of choice with protein, our son is dairy free and gluten free he had plenty of choice as well ,we all came out stuffed, so impressed that we booked a table for my birthday in November can't wait ,definitely a this place

Great pub. Really nice friendly atmosphere. Food was fantastic, good big portions so you won't be leaving hungry. (They do offer childs/pensioner potions for most dishes). Dog friendly with plenty of walks nearby. Would recommend booking in advance.

Great service and great pub food at affordable prices

Nice pub serving good food in a lovely location. Pleasant atmosphere and a reasonable roast dinner. Banana in the banoffee pie was hard and under ripe and cauliflower cheese was a bit bland.

Far from the madding crowd down the end of a one way street 5 minutes from Tavistock.
