Visiting a new area for my friends birthday! OMG we visited the White Bear a couple of times and the customer services was amazing. All the staff had attention to detail but a young lad called ZAK stood out to me! I get embarrassed about massive food intolerances and he was so kind and explained everything in detail and made me feel very comfortable. I will definitely be coming back again mainly because of his attitude. They are clearly trained well

I had the delight of having lunch at this very busy pub early in the afternoon on Saturday, Despite the busy atmosphere, the service was outstanding. Our server, Lola, was incredibly friendly and attentive, going above and beyond to help with my allergies. They took the time to explain the menu options and made sure I felt completely comfortable and had every need met. It was lovely to have someone so knowledgeable and proactive even though she was rushed off her feet. The meal itself was delicious and cooked to perfection. All in all, a fantastic experience from start to finish. I can't recommend it enough. I’ll definitely be back!

Lovely pub and have eaten here plenty of times before. However…. came here to watch Ireland v England as it was advertised on boards out the front. Very limited view of the two screens, they need one more if they are advertising this to watch the six nations. The larger of the two screen took some to get a picture and when it did, it was 20 seconds behind the other TV, I guess one was a live feed and the big one was just via the ITV app. This didn’t go down well first of all. The second issue was that because of the delay there was no sound. Our party of 6 left at half time. Very disappointing. If you are advertising such a popular event then ensure the IT issues are ironed out well before the game is about to start. You cannot have a delay like that. Because there was no sound, the atmosphere was dire. Love The White Bear but yesterday was a real disappointment. I would check prior to see if the issues have been ironed out before next weekends six nations games. There were quite a few other people that left too. Ok, that’s off my chest now

I have to say I have been a regular for eating here with company and the staff have never disappointed. Lucy # 1 (first one) only was our waitress the last couple times and she is always so welcoming and had such a lovely presence in the time we were there. Top rated waitress, should get a raise there maybe. I would always rate white bear as brilliant and worth the money for service, meal and presentation. Many thanks

We went to the White Bear for Christmas dinner and to be honest was massively disappointed. The food was nice, but the service was awful and not enough staff. At £95 a head (plus an extra £25 for extras like pigs in blankets, cauliflower cheese and stuffing) - it was a rip off. We arrived and were told there was a delay ( that’s fine) we then had to complain and finally got our table an hour after the original booking time. It then took over half an hour to place a drinks order - over 20 mins later we got the drinks and the starter finally came out 2 hours after our original booking time. We appreciate it’s busy, but Christmas Day is suppose to be special - most tables were complaining. We refused to pay service charge. Won’t be returning and do not recommend.

Booked for Christmas day. Complete disaster. Understaffed, unorganised, stressful. Sat at our table an hour late, table was broken, no drinks offered, we left without eating and went for a curry instead. I work for the NHS and had a better experience on my lunch break last christmas in the NHS canteen. I feel for the staff working as they were trying their best but someone needs to be held accountable for ruining our Christmas.

Place looked great, but looks can be deceiving. Staff were pleasant, but management really need to up their game. I’ve worked in the service industry for over 30 years and while I accept we can’t get everything right all the time to have one issue after another is unacceptable. We waited so long for a menu we then had to ask someone to take the food order after waiting 40 minutes. Then 70% of the food order was out of stock on our starter order, by the time we got our mains they weren’t even warm. A £26 roasted seabass looked like the sole out of a sweaty trainer and the medium steak I can’t even think of a comparison other than not of this world. Yes there was a discount given but still cost over £300 pounds. I will never be back and I recommend KFC over this place, which is where I ended up because we were left starving.

Really disappointing meal. Came in this evening as a group of 8 for a roast dinner which we had planned and booked 3 weeks in advance. We were disappointed from the get go. We arrived on time for our reservation but the table was not ready despite there being several empty tables. After waiting for 10 minuets for the table to be ready there were not enough chairs or cutlery for our party. No menus were given to us and the promise of extra cutlery was not fulfilled until we had to ask again. When we managed to forage for some menus we found that there were no Sunday options on the menu so we finally flagged down a staff member 40 mins after we had arrived and were told that the only roast option was beef. This is disappointing in itself as several of us wanted one of the other options but at least we could still have a roast right? At first glance the roast dinner looked well presented. Actually eating the dinner was another story. The beef was very rare and flavourless, I like rare beef but it was so rare that it was cold and difficult to cut. The gravy was very very sweet, almost like it had been infused with some sort of syrup. A few of us ordered Mac and cheese as a side which was dry and lacking in cheese but somehow managed to be the star of the show. We were not asked how our meal was or if we needed anything during our visit. Given the difficulty we had getting the attention of a staff member to take our order in the first place discussing our dissatisfaction was not on the cards. We wanted to pay for our overpriced meal and leave before the experience got any worse. Imagine my surprise when upon receipt of the bill it was noted that a 12.5% service charge had been added. The service was tragic. The whole meal wasn’t even worth 12.5% of the entire bill! To summarise: Over priced Poor customer service Terrible food If you’re in the market for a decent roast dinner in a family run restaurant with attentive staff you should try TN1 Bar and Grill. Only ever had positive experiences.

MORE LIKE A NIGHTCLUB THAN A RESTAURANT. My Mum, 91, booked a table for my birthday (her son) and her grandson's birthday. Shambolic from the outset – we were sat under heat lamps that were frying us from one side. Asked them to be turned down, but instead they turned them off, so we ended up in coats and scarves. Two starters missing. Mains finally arrived one and a half hours in, with again one delayed. Random drinks and dishes brought to the table that were not ours. The background music was loud but bearable but then before we'd finished our mains it comes on FULL VOLUME. Bear in mind this is a restaurant, not a nightclub – the room has no dancefloor and is entirely dining tables. Poor Mum, who is hard of hearing, was unable to understand anyone – as were the rest of the table without shouting. Couple on the next table were rolling their eyes and leaning in so they could converse. I asked for the volume to be turned down, but no response. Complained to the manager. We hadn't even finished our meal, but could not bear to carry on with this fiasco any longer. Put down our cutlery and left, pushing Mum in her wheelchair past two massive speakers blasting out music. We got dessert from the M&S garage on the way back and ate it at Mum's. If you have endless patience and like eating in a disco go for it, but what should have been a celebratory family meal out was a complete disaster. We'd been to the White Bear once before in the summer, and there had been no excruciatingly loud music. Food: gussied-up average pub fare, burgers and fish. Smallish portions. The chicken dish was cold. Was not presented with a bill and we left without paying, but the next day found they'd unilaterally taken £55 from Mum's account at 2AM for a "booking fee". Felt so sorry for Mum, who rarely gets out and had planned this as a special occasion. One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had, and I've had some shockers.

We came for a 50th birthday meal and it was a nightmare from start to finish. The menu they show online is not the same as the one they actually have so immediately the food options we wanted weren’t available and then other options on their menu were also already unavailable. It was 30 minutes before we were able to order a drink and this was only because we asked a staff member to come over, we had to go to the bar for all other drinks as no one was coming to us. We ordered two Camembert for the starter and were told there was only one which was fine until they then bought out all the rest of the starters and told us they don’t actually have any Camembert so we just were left with nothing, they managed to leave it on the bill though. Our booking was for 7:30 and the mains didn’t start to come out until 9 where the pasta was freezing cold in a hot bowl and the last main came out 15 minutes after the first. It was too loud in there to hear anything anyone was saying around the table. The staff did next to nothing to compensate for the absolute disaster of a meal apart from taking the two cheapest drinks and some fries off the bill. What was supposed to be a special occasion was a real let down and staff even said to us that everyone else’s meals had been bad too. It was not worth the time or the money.

My daughter celebrated her 18th birthday at the White Bear, Tunbridge Wells with her friends this month (Aug). From the moment we contacted them about booking, they were polite, courteous and went above and beyond to help us organise the evening. They checked in with us about the booking on the run up to the event, and when things changed slightly as short notice, they were kind and accommodating. My daughter had a wonderful evening with her friends, and as a parent, I felt comfortable her being in a pub with her friends because the atmosphere of the White Bear was lovely and welcoming. The staff were brilliant at checking ID (rightly so!) and everyone behind the bar was super lovely, giving excellent customer service. We would definitely recommend the White Bear for anyone looking for bespoke small gatherings to celebrate. The area they offered us catered for up to 30 people. 1Atmosphere 1. Theme - Typical chain pub atmosphere 2. Entertainment - jazzy soft music playing throughout service. 3. Facilities - good setting and accessible toilets 4. Cleanliness - clean and serviceable throughout 2 Service 1. Timely - very good 2. Attentive - once the food came we didn't see out server again 3. Friendly - very friendly and accommodating to our requests 3 Food 1. Presentation - poor. We ordered a burger, two kids meals and a roast. The burger was the best presentation of all three. The rest was as though it was just thrown in a plate and no afterthought for presentation. 2. Quality of food - poor. The gravy was too watered down. The kids burger was a slider, not a kids sized burger and was too small. The roast beef was two thin slices of underdone beef. No seasoning. Bland. The drinks came with lemonade that was off and we had to request a replacement. 3. Value for money - not worth it. They cut corners and expect the customer to not notice. The fries from the burger meals were not enough. They came in a cup but it was lined with baking paper folded in a way that only amounted to a third of the cup full. The roast was not filling and I was left hungry afterwards. The best part of the meal was the adult burger which was a good size, well done and satisfying. Shame about skimping on the fries.

Firstly I don't know who chose the wine list but I ordered two different glasses of red wine both of which were absolutely revolting and undrinkable. Then I ordered two more drinks at 10.45 (a cocktail for me and pint for my husband) the cocktail obviously took a little time to make by which time we had been told by a security guard that the bar was closing at 11pm, when I said oh it's ok we just made our last order he said No, you have to go at 11....my cocktail hadn't even arrived. The barman hadn't told me as much when I ordered, if I had known I wouldn't have spent another £17 on drinks only to be told I had to drink it in under 10 minutes. I left seriously angry...it is really not on that people are told to drink up and get thrown out at 11 on the dot on a Saturday night. I wouldn't return again.

Solice from the rain, drinks are expensive, sausage and potatoes, with pesto sauce and cabbage (not green beans as the menu stated) was an interesting take on the classic sausage and mash, but the sausage quality is extremely questionable, terribly poor quality to be honest. Also, the deconstructed cheesecake is hideous, a bowl of double cream, possibley a dollop of clotted cream, a bit of raspberry jam, and some smashed digestive biscuit! It was suppose to be rhubarb and raspberry cheesecake, and was nothing of the sort.

Lovely restaurant environment - we were sat in the orangery. The team were welcoming and our waiter really friendly. Unfortunately we were left very disappointed by the Sunday roast, especially for the cost. Whilst the beef was perfectly cooked (not always a guarantee) it was tasteless and had no seasoning or flavour . Same for the overcooked Yorkshire puddings but fortunately the delicious gravy helped plus adding a lot of salt ourselves. Our potato’s looked great and so we didn’t mind the small portion however they were rock hard and I couldn’t eat mine. The veg however was the star and I recommend getting the parsnip side.

Went with a friend to eat last night. what has happened to this lovely pub? The back where they open the terrace looked so tacky! False plants everywhere they have now, horrible metal garden's chairs everywhere. Where are the real olive trees that used to be there? The music was far to loud for a restaurant, we had to shout to be able to talk! so unable to relax. we ordered 2 chickens with vegs the chicken was tiny and everything was cold so it had to come back to the kitchen. when it all came back the carrots and potatoes were burned therefore we could not eat them. The Yorkshire puddings were crunchy as a meringue we had to put some gravy on top to soften them. Was cold gravy because we could not get the attention of a water as they were wising thought faster than Mick Jagger on the stage! we asked for some tap water at the bar and they did not bring us a jug but 2 glasses with 1/4 of water and 2/3 of ice! they had forgotten our cutlery before bringing us food. we had to run after people to get some salt and pepper... how on earth, is the publican managing to make some kind of benefice??? out of dreadful food, dreadful service? Let's see how long it's going to last!

My friends and I visited the pub last Saturday and had a lovely meal and service was great. Mistakes happen, but they can be forgiven if they are acknowledged and rectified. Hope to visit the pub again soon. Thank you. A beautiful eclectic pub with a great atmosphere, but sadly the food didn't live up to much and ridiculous price for drinks! We ordered a blush prosecco before being seated at our table so did not have a menu. After dining we asked for the bill and the prosecco was £66! I feel the service staff should have warned us the blush prosecco was double the price of normal prosecco. Very disappointing, won't be going back

Great pub restaurant along TW high street! Close to the station, minutes walk. Cosy and warm vibes. Lovely staff. I would rate the food 7/10, and the portions were generous. Menu lacks variety though but we went on a Sunday and had the roast. Definitely get the pigs in “duvet” as a side.

The place and the service could not be faulted but the food leaves a lot to be desired. The starters were very good and cannot fault but the main courses that we ordered were very poor quality. The filet steak was extremely salty and very dry. The two burgers were very evidently pre cooked and then reheated as they were extremely tough to cut and eat. The risotto was tasteless, mushy and totally inedible. The desert that we chose of apple and pear crumble was strewed fruit sprinkled with crushed granola biscuits. After we advised the server of our do satisfaction she offered to replace the risotto but we had been out of the food and were not prepared to wait 40 mins for something new. We had to ask to remove the risotto from the bill

this was intended to be our 30th wedding anniversary celebration, unfortunately it was very disappointing, the food was awful. I had what I thought would be a delicious burger but it was like trying to eat a rubber tyre, and the chips were made with rotten potatoes, burger buns were stone cold out of the fridge. All in all a dreadful plate of food, we complained to our waiter which brought no response. Not a place to be revisited nor recommended

Taken through to extended bar area which was cold, ordered food which was frankly second rate (The batter on the fish was like concrete) and toilets were dirty and smelt. Cannot return and managers need to up their game!!

What a find! We were struggling to locate anywhere with the kitchen open for late lunch (that wasn’t a cafe serving sandwiches) and got very lucky with the white bear. Dog friendly and super attentive from the moment we walked in from the cold rainy outdoors. Dog water and adorable treats brought to us the second we sat down 🧡 The atmosphere is super cosy with lovely low lighting and candles on every table - really calm and relaxing. The food was super lovely, enjoyed a generous portion of fish and chips from their lunch menu and left feeling stuffed! The staff were fantastic and very friendly, checking in on us to bring our courses within perfect timing. Ignore the other horrible reviews and go have a brilliant pub lunch at this spot, won’t disappoint 👌🏼

An unfortunate experience at the white bear. No coordination from the staff. Was told when ordering that certain drink were not available. The food was basic and not good quality. The burger we ordered was hard, overcooked and full of cartilage. I would not recommend accept to have a quick drink.

A lovely and deceptively spacious pub diner in the centre of town. Parking is a couple of minutes walk but worth the effort. We'll decorated and comfortable. Staff are welcoming and friendly. Recommended.

Nice decor/atmosphere. Food good. Table service good. The main problem with this venue is that when you step in the front door there’s no one to welcome you. We walked up to the bar but were ignored for around 10 minutes. Finally someone spoke to us and we were told to find a table and come back to order. It was only when I reiterated that we had booked that I was told to go around the corner to the restaurant area. No signs. No greeting. There needs to be a greeting point inside the front door to direct people.

Visited the White Bear on the 27th Dec with friends. We were sat out the back part which was atmospheric & the ambience was great, buzzing but not too loud. Our table was booked for 2pm & we didnt stagger out til 7pm! Our Waitress was knowledgable & friendly & we werent rushed at all. Food was great, tasty & good choice on the menu. We spent far too much on wine but that was our own fault 😅 Had visited in the past when it was the old Tun Wells Bar & Grill & it seemed just as good. Thank you.

Visited on xmas day 2023 for lunch with hub and 2 adult kids. Lots of pressure to get it right and they did. Room beautifully dressed, food honestly fantastic and service warm, friendly and efficient. I am usually the xmas cook and running around but eating out meant we were all round the table together for 3 hours. Perfect. Thank you!!

The White Bear in Tunbridge Wells offers a delightful experience marked by its warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff's friendly and welcoming attitude stands out, creating a positive first impression. During my visit, I indulged in the Parfait and triple-cooked chips paired with a refreshing beer or two ( well it is Christmas ) 😊 The Parfait was tasty and the triple-cooked chips were a crispy and satisfying accompaniment, adding a nice touch to the overall dining experience. The attention to detail in the preparation of these dishes was evident, reflecting the culinary expertise of the kitchen. What truly impressed me was the swift service – a testament to the staff's efficiency and dedication. The prompt delivery of my order contributed to a seamless and enjoyable dining experience. The White Bear's commitment to both quality cuisine and exceptional service makes it a standout choice in Tunbridge Wells. Whether you're seeking a casual snack or something more substantial, the White Bear offers a welcoming ambiance.

Brevity is necessary here, as wasting my time will be adding insult to injuty. Food for the price atrocious. Scallops the size of button holes and tasteless.Forty minutes [ to include two "any chance " chase ups] between courses. Steak and mushroom pies: five......yes bloody FIVE small pieces of tasteless offerings, obviously cooked from frozen in an all "singing all dancing" microwave, to such a degree that I literally burnt my thumb on the pastry! Not ideal with which to begin the festive season with the extended family.........

Very pleasant to walk around. In winter you might see the pond frozen over and the ground sparkling with frost, but as the seasons come, the landscape changes with a variety of bulbs, flowers , and rhododendrons. Bring a picnic or use the park cafe, sadly there is now a parking charge if you come by car. 🪷🦢🦆🌳

Large group of 14 people had lunch here on a Saturday in January. This is a really cute, rustic and authentic countryside pub run by a wonderful family. The service was excellent and genuine, they dealt with our large group very well and the staff were lovely to chat with. Food was all great, personally I had the mushroom ratatouille and white chocolate roulade both of which were delicious and delicately flavoured. Would 100pc recommend this pub.
