We had a meal here around a year ago, it was nice. Now the pub has been taken over, it has a new chef. I had the Steak & Ale Pie with creamy mash & peas and gravy, I have to say it was absolutely delicious 😋, my partner has the half of Peri Peri Chicken, he said the chicken was moist not dry, it came with Fries & Side Salad. I have to say I did want the Homemade Lasagna, unfortunately it was being cooked, the staff here are all lovely and friendly, they go above and beyond, next time I we go, I want to try the Homemade Lasagna, I know I would definitely have the Steak & Ale pie again, without a shadow of a doubt. A massive 👏 to the chef. I will post pictures next time.

Nice Bar but only ever have 2 staff on and the pub is heaving.. left after waiting 10 minutes to get served. Come on Blackrose you can do better

Busy venue due to Christmas Market being on. At least five deep at the bar, only two staff serving...very poor staff management. Bar staff (possibly manager) chose to serve friends rather than customers who had been queuing for some time. Quite rude and very little positive customer service.

Good real ale, staff need more training on how to serve. Not their problem, its a management issue. However I managed full pints on my visit.

Lovely food. Bit packed, but it was a saturday night, so absolutely understandable. Will come again.

Always excellent service by staff who provide great service. Unfortunately I sometimes have had to wait a little while to be served, which is the only downside. There's always an awesome selection of punk/hardcore/metal bands on a Wednesday.

Last orders at 10pm on a Friday night???

Didn't eat here parts of the premises smelled awful I think possibly due to the toilets

We were on a girls weekend...we ordered our drinks....we ordered gin and tonic ..and vodka and coke... My gin was served I a pint glass no ice or lemon..when I asked the barman for another glass he was rude ...very unfriendly..I then asked for ice and he said they didn't have any .... It's a bar with great music but this member of staff let it down... Not the cheapest place so would not return ..

I was here having a drink I finished my first drink and went to order my second and they refused i asked why and ignored me completely a woman and security then asked me to leave I then questioned the reason and then they said because I'm not from here the security started to push me and said a racist remark

Website says you do food which is a lie as I have just been told that you don't and that your app doesn't work in here nor do you do table service

Nice enough busy matchday pub. Really for home fans but we got in before the bouncers were on the door and spent a couple of hours in there.

Usually the white bear is good, but the last visit had 'out of place' music blasting out so loud no one could speak. Looking around at other groups it seemed like no one enjoyed it. Hopefully this is a one-off experience.

Went I to watch football on sky and at half time told manager had taken till off. Nobody asked if we wanted another drink. Diabolical. Why have sky sports and close the bar at half time. Barman took glasses away as soon as you had your last slurp. Never had hence to put them down. Worst pub in barnsley. Had to sit there and listen to swearing for 45 mins. Partner said no toilet roll either ! Have complained to head office also

Nice pub, good atmospher. Brilliant music being played on the saturday night we went in. Much better than sister pub the Courthouse

Friendly atmosphere, fair enough prices for the current climate, space to sit and quiet enough to have a chat. The only downfall was the length of time it took to get served in the first place.

Disappointing response over messages in regards to an enquiry regarding a deposit. Would not return due to the pub not responding to messages and not being honest.

Sister pub the court house illegally took my mates id then banned her from that pub and this one for calling her dad to get it back

Was busy but was served fast as it was well staffed. Plenty of room and places to site, drinks seemed quite pricey unless we were charged wrong, pint of cider and a larger shandy was just shy of £10

Just been to a wedding buffet and the food and service were superb.the best buffet food I have had in many years.

Beer OK. They is no food at the moment till they get a head Chef.

Great pub with a nice atmosphere and friendly service provided , although prices are high over £3.00 a pint of beer , £1.90 in chennels 200 yards away at time of writing may change again .

Cheap food and drinks. What more do you want. Wednesday's are good here because they have live bands on.

Friendly fast service and beautiful food

Happy staff, good prices and already got there Halloween decorations up. Commitment! Popped in for a drink on way back to our hotel after a disappointing meal out somewhere else. Would recommend it’s a lovely quiet and COVID secure venue in the heart of Barnsley.

We have visited for drinks for a few weeks. Very friendly staff and nice environment. Had a meal yesterday- good choice of dishes and quality of our food. Portions good. We will be going back. Thank you pocket rocket

The white bear has incredible staff, they are following all the guidelines and made us feel extremely safe on our night out after bad experiences else where in town. We had a good laugh with the barmaid amelia

Been in here a few times now, the food is always great and the live music nights are always quality.

Ordered food at 12:50 with my partner and 2 kids... not that busy regarding people eating yet we STILL haven't had our food served. It's now 1:50 ...One angry/hungry child. Not recommended for food at all. At the end, the food wasnt even cooked! 3 people left also

The experience at white bear was excellent especially the hospitality received from the bar maid kaitlin who was very welcoming and enthusiastic. Place was very clean and had a good atmosphere

It used to be so good.. meet up with friends every month and have something to eat...but dont know why but its not the same.the portions were too big so my friend and i used to share but last week we didn't enjoy it at all .just my opinion

I came over for a visit and the staff are amazing and catered to my needs after my spinal surgery I am originally from barnsley but have lived in Blackpool a long time

Went for tea with my husband- scampi not available but staff recommended the fish. Might never order scampi again - the fish was brilliant and I was gobsmacked to realise the ‘chef’ was a member of staff who usually serves the drinks!!! The usual chef not in work. All I have to say is she did a great job. Had fish when the chef did it she did it better. Thank you chef - apologies for not knowing your name but you will know who you are.

Only just started going to this pub. Great atmosphere and great music. Will be back in the future for sure.

Group of us pre ordered lunch. Visited all dishes were served promptly, all different and good sized portions.

I we went for my fathers birthday and one of the meals was stone cold and my brother and fathers mix grill said on the menu that it came with chicken but it was missing on both and when we asked the staff he was being stuck up and rude and trying to be smart and my father lost Is patience and nearly lost it. Finally wouldn't recommend it!!!

It was our first time coming here for my dads birthday meal ,the staff where not really welcoming and when I ordered food they didn't have what I wanted available so had to order something else that I don't really want and also my brother and dad ordered a mix grille which should have come with chicken breast but was missing and the food came pilled up to try and hide there was no chicken and when we questioned this the staff was really rude about it and told is there was nothing they could do

We were a party of 9 pre-booked Christmas meal. I could not believe it when it finally arrived. Underneath two slices of turkey was two sprouts four baton carrots four green beans a parsnip nearly raw s frozen stuffing ball two very small frozen roast potatoes and a Yorkshire pudding you needed a hammer to get into it. Insipid gravy and to top it all off it was all like warm. One person never had any veg. Very poor meal all round. Also no Ice for drinks
