Travellers Inn in Barnsley

We enjoyed; Sunday Roast – Beef (£16.50) + Chicken (£15.95); both served with mash, Yorkshire pud, duck fat roasties, honey-roasted carrots & parsnips, cabbage, stuffing and gravy (GF gravy available) – these were served on massive plates so it looked like there wasn’t much, but there was definitely ample amounts. Everything was cooked to our liking and no complaints. We were definitely full afterwards. NOTE – other meals coming out of the kitchen looked like MASSIVE portions including Kids meals, something to bear in mind. Bakewell Tart with Custard (£7.50); a massive portion and lots of creamy custard. Really enjoyed this 🍰 We pre-booked a table but there’s lots of room to dine here, so I think walk ins would be fine. We enjoyed the food and drinks and the staff were friendly and welcoming. In total we spent £54 for 2 Sunday roasts, a dessert & 3 pints. The Pub has a large menu including Lunch and an Outdoor Menu. There is limited options for Vegans, but more choice for Vegetarians. They also offer a Bottomless Brunch Monday to Saturday 12pm – 5pm, 2 hours for £34.95 AND they offer a free meal on your Birthday here as well. Opening times: Mon & Tues 3pm – 8pm, Wed to Sun 12pm – 11pm

Absolutely diabolical , Scampi and chips with peas! Scampi cold and mushy like on the inside and the garden peas cold and not even cooked ! Sent it back which was the best option, i was offered something else from the menu which was burger and chips , how could they get this wrong 😑 the chips were in my opinion not fresh the burger tasted off and the teacake it was on was still frozen, well let’s say overly cold !! I Ate sum chips and some of the burger until i realised it tasted funny! I Will not be returning and I advise others not to bother as the staff in the back area was shouting obscene things to each other ! disgusting and dissatisfied 😒 with everything. I paid the full price but i wish i would have refused to pay to be honest but i did.

Party of 20 , had a great time , good food , good service, and good price. Couldn't fault it. Thanks for an enjoyable evening.

More atmosphere in a morgue but the food was amazing

Huge portions of delicious food! Highly recommend the Brie and cranberry starter and the halloumi and red pepper flatbread. Only downsides were the greasy halloumi fries and the strange decor… Will return

First time we have eaten at the Travellers Inn. We were taken out for Sunday lunch by our Son and Daughter-in-law. The service was a bit slow but it didn't bother us. I ordered Roast Beef with trimmings and my husband order chicken roast with trimmings. When our meals arrived they were cold, not tepid very cold and so were the plates. They took them back to reheat but they still wasn't hot when they came back. Mine looked as though they had poured hot water over it, it was swimming in very runny gravy. The beef was 'plastic beef' no taste whatsoever. The vegetables were not fresh, they were frozen warmed up. There was 2 balls of stuffing on my plate, stuffing with beef? My son had a chicken pie which looked good but inside the sauce wasn't at all creamy it was like water. Didn't stay for dessert. Staff were fine but didn't ask if our meals were OK even when my son was paying. My husband had a dodgy stomach for a couple of days. Definitely will not be going again.

Fish came without the sauce it should have and the" tenderstem broccoli" was so hard I couldn't cut it with a knife. When I told the waitress she brought me a steak knife. Couldn't cut it with that either. Don't think I'll be eating there again.

Starter was OK. I had scampi chips mushy peas Scampi was under cooked chips where done in cold oil peas where like water . Haddock tasted like oil whated, changing the . same chips where brown peas were too watery will not go back

The staff were good and polite. The place itself was not warm enough. The music was loud who wants to listen to soft rock while having lunch. The food was good only complant the chips were overcooked and limp.

Called in at the Travellers before going to see a tribute band, as we passed we thought that place looks nice, it was staff were pleasant atmosphere was good, a little to far for us to go regular but if we are up that way we will visit again

I took my mum for her birthday,big mistake huge mistake. Vegetables hard,mash lumpy reheated..Chicken hard and tough. Roasties black and seemed to have been reheated.Sent it back and had a salad...Cannot go wrong with a salad edible.All in all disgusting. No wonder it was dead. I have been in the past and I have had amazing food but won't be going again.

Just had lunch at the Travellers with a bunch of friends. The food was gorgeous. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble. The atmosphere was great... both staff and customers smiling and happy and loving life.

Had a lovely lunch today at the Travellers today. The food was delicious, freshly made and great portions too. Wonderful service, the staff were very attentive. They clearly enjoy working together as they were all genuinely smiling and happy to help where they could. Thank you for a great experience. We will definitely be coming again.

Didn't have first two choices of beer, (run out) anniversary meal with friends was awful and expensive. Will never go back.

I just wish to thank the two bar/waitresses who came to my rescue tonight. I was picking up a young man outside the Traveller`s Inn. I was worried about lateness and had forgotten my phone, so went into the bar, where a kind waitress allowed me to use the business phone and call my relatives. To my relief, everything was in order, and I then went outside and bumped into the young man. Not being from around Barnsley, I was not familiar with the area. Cannot thank enough for the kindness shown, and just wish to congratulate Traveller`s Inn staff. The pub actually is lovely, the food I noticed looked good, and the atmosphere was superb. Thank You.

Me and my family came Sunday for a Sunday roast( we have been many times and had great Sunday roasts) however it was 100% a bad decision my kids had to listen to bad mouthing staff swearing at the bar and who I assumed to be the manager walking round oblivious to it and even joking with them. The beef was like leather the roasties were like soggy chipshop chips, stuffing was dry the roast veg were cold and the Yorkshire pud was like a rock. Massively downhill here and after talking to the regulars olds boys it’s worth noting it has changed hands recently and has a new team.

Nice lunch & friendly service. I know prices have gone up everywhere - but £9.50 for a desert in a pub is excessive. Wouldn’t rush back based on the prices.

Some woman claiming to be the owner was extremely rude to my mother when she quite rightly suggested that her food was overcooked. Prices are shocking for cheap rubbish that half of it seemed to have come straight out of a microwave. We both came out hungry and annoyed for what was supposed to be a treat.

Sorry Travellers Inn, Last 2 times we have eaten here it was not as good as it used to be. Greasy Caesar Salad and burnt chips with Gammon Steak. We decided not to have a dessert, at £9.50 each we did not want to waste our money. Apparently management and chef have changes. Such a shame, Food used to taste exceptionally good, and always looked amazing. Will have to find somewhere else!

So got there and the staff were stepping over food all over the floor . Wife’s dinner came out with rotton cabbage . It was actually a joke . Will not return . Worsed meal we’ve had out in years . Kitchen was like a youth club too . Not good at all . Something needs smartening up . And price it well above what they are too . Terrible

We dropped in for lunch today and were not disappointed. I had the halloumi burger with mint hummus from special boards whilst my dining companion had the pie. The food was lovely! The atmosphere in the pub/restaurant nice and relaxed leasing to us having a really nice afternoon. Really great end to the weekend with the warm welcome, great service and great food. Food was ok, we had roast dinners but the yorkshires tasted a bit off (slightly fishy is the best way I can describe it). Service was poor, no baby changing facilities and ended up having to change baby on the floor surrounded by other diners which wasn’t pleasant for us or I’m sure them. Also worth noting there is no accessible toilet.

We were greeted with a friendly smile, and shown to our table. We ordered our drinks and also 2 steaks. The steaks were beautiful and not too long a wait. Will definitely be returning

Me and my partner and our 2 young children had a fantastic experience today from the moment we stepped in the front door the service was 5* friendly welcoming staff made us all feel welcome they went above and beyond to accommodate our kids even setting up a small table so they could draw. Enough about service the part that everyone wants the food was amazing not your standard pub grub if your looking for some quality food and affordable drinks this is the place to try you will not be disappointed. Me and my family will be back again for sure.

A very pleasant luch. Treat for mom for her birthday. Food was excellent. My only criticism would be portion size. Overly generous. Mom had the hake and prawn salad. All I can say is wow. It was huge.

This has always been our first choice of restaurant/pub for food in the area and have been going for years as the menu choices and food quality have always been better than the others and we were more than happy to pay the higher prices for it and the great service. We visited last Friday and what a change, the menu is now your bog standard run of the mill pub food, there was nothing I really wanted so ended up with a mixed starter which was nice but by no means the same quality as before. On speaking with our server it appears they have a new chef, such an absolute shame as it was amazing before. Seems we will be looking for a new favourite restaurant

Did bottomless brunch last weekend and couldn’t knock anything which is rare with a bottomless brunch we had another drink pretty much straight after we’d drank the one we had wasn’t waiting long ever which is usually the main concern. Only had a salad but that was lovely and the girl who was serving us was absolutely lovely. Really polite and smiley. Definitely will be back.

Been here before with a friend, was very nice and welcoming. However... the customer service has gone really down hill. I brought my family here in December and it was not the same place. We weren't given menus and when we asked, we were met with a 'cba' attitude from one of the managers!? . Young staff seemed to be running around with food and drinks whilst the older manager seemed to just be stood talking to her friend?? Waited 15 minutes for drinks and around 35 minutes for food and it wasn't even that busy. However for the food i cant really complain.

We have been midweek to the Travellers several times in the past and have always been highly satisfied. We visited last Sunday and were very disappointed. My dad and myself had the Sunday lunch. We chose turkey. The turkey was not in slices which you would expect from a joint. It was bits/ lumps and appeared to have been heated up in gravy. (Probably leftovers from Christmas!) The roast potatoes were inedible. I could have built a stone wall out of them. Veg and Yorkshire were fine. We did not stay for pudding as we felt very cheated after our main meal. ☹️☹️☹️

We were staying in the area over Christmas so called in for a drink and it seemed so welcoming that we decided to go there the next evening for dinner. The place is very clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly although not the most efficient service as we finally got seated about half an hour after our booking time (although there were at least 2 tables for 2 available) and was then waiting another half an hour for food after ordering and even after most people had left the restaurant area by the time we were seated - 1 star lost. The menu had a good choice but there were 3 dishes unavailable, 2 of which was to be our first choices and there was also no real ale on tap for both the nights we were there (although we were told on the first night that the ale would be back on for the second night which it wasn't) - second star lost. Another big problem that we didn't account for was that the place was packed solid in the bar area because there was a show going on at the music venue next door of a Queen tribute band. It was was so loud and noisy with people and a lot of drunks everywhere shouting to get over each others' voices which completely spoiled the dining experience. At one stage one of the drunks just had to start shouting out at the top of his voice a very loud and very long Freddie Mercury "Ay-Oh" rendition - you know the one I mean! This was not curtailed or stopped by the staff or management which by then had finished our hopefully nice evening out - third star lost. My advice is go here for a nice dinner out (menu and drinks permitting) but make sure there is no event going on at the Birdwell Music venue next door first or expect more of the same.

Had a group booking here last night for Christmas dinner and It was amazing. Each course was delicious, the staff were brilliant and did a great job serving all forty five of us. The atmosphere in the whole place was fun and festive, can’t wait to return.

Tried out the lunch time special two courses main and dessert for £15.95 I had scampi and salad. I asked if it was possible to have extra salad instead of chips, I was informed that it was no problem. My husband had fish and chips, both were plenty full ,well presented and tasty. Ladies serving were both attentive, polite and friendly. Having eaten the main meal we found ourselves full and declined the desert. Our lovely waitress said why not take your dessert home after all it's in with the price. So that's what we did, we opted for a nice piece of cheesecake. Well that's tea sorted.

Would not recomend coming here. The food was average and for the price it should have been outstanding. The price of drinks was awful. £6 for a pint of peroni and £9 for a double vodka. After complaining the the manager with blinde hair and glasses that the meat was slightly undercooked we were met with a disgusting attitude and a reluctancy to help. Bad customer service. Manager should not have a job as this isnt the only thing ive heard.

Really felt like I needed to write a review as we had an amazing time and this place is fab! . We arrived as a large group of 18 for bottomless brunch and the service was fantastic. Great atmosphere, really clean and well kept, loved the decor. Very polite staff and they were quick and prompt with our orders. Food was definitely the best I have had in ages, large portion, I highly recommend the beer brisket flatbread, it was delicious! We will definitely be returning here! Thankyou for a great afternoon!

Visited here Saturday evening. We pre booked as we were going to a music venue up the road. It was wonderful the staff very polite, we were seated quickly & drinks order taken & arrived quickly. We ordered & food came out prompt. The presentation was lovely, fresh & very tasty. There was so much we couldnt eat it all. I had the fettuccine with chicken & choritzo & my friend had goats cheese & blueberry rissotto both served with garlic ciabatta bread. 10/10 will definately be back & they serve Madri always a plus for us lol xx

We’ve been eating at the Travellers Inn, Birdwell for over four years now and have to say that in the last couple of months the food is better than ever before. The staff are incredible, as always. Nothing is too much trouble and service is spot on. Can highly recommend going for a bar meal, restaurant meal, or their afternoon tea.

We chose the travellers to celebrate my Dads 70th Birthday and it did not disappoint. Catering seamlessly for 30 Of us; the staff and service was second to none. Nicola and her staff, particularly Lara, we’re amazing and could not have done more for us! The food, considering there were So many of us, was brought out all at the same time and was plentiful and so tasteful as always. We have been to the travellers many times and it never the fails To Disappoint. If you are wanting fresh, home cooked food, then I would highly recommended eating here. Thankyou so much for an amazing evening . We will be back !

We visited for a bottomless brunch yesterday and was instantly made welcome on arrival by Donna. The food was lovely- plenty of it- most of us struggled to finish the full meal! The service from all staff members was fantastic. The drinks were good quality and kept flowing. A fantastic place for a girls get together. We will be returning!

Excellent place to eat lucky the weather was good so we ate out side and the out side is really good felt like being abroad worth a visit

Hands down the best bottomless brunch I’ve been to. Staff were fantastic and the choice and quality of the drinks and food for the money was amazing! Two of us had the chicken Caesar flatbread which was huge and really tasty and the other two in our party had the travellers burger which they said was fab also. Proper chips and homemade coleslaw. We were never without a drink either would highly recommend and will definitely go back.

We’ve eaten here maybe 30 times in the past 2 years and have never had a bad meal. So many pubs and restaurants are hit and miss - you get a great meal followed by a disappointing one. The Travellers offers consistently good quality food, excellent service and a nice atmosphere. Today we had the whole family with us. Double figures and 4 generations. Everyone loved their meals and we were comfortable and relaxed, thanks to the staff who work hard but maintain a friendly unhurried professionalism. One example of the service which really impressed me was the quality of produce. The kids’ meals included ice cream. I expected the usual small portion of basic ‘over sweet Walls type’ ice cream. They were actually served with 3 scoops of really nice quality fresh tasting ice cream. That is rare and shows great attention to detail. Overall - Another great meal, well done everyone.

If only there was a zero stars Terrible terrible visit. Staff extremely rude and uninviting. To top it off 2 hairs were found in my lunch. The manager was not interested to resolve. This is very off putting. Avoid !

I’ve visited on numerous occasions and always found the food and service exceptional-so last night we chose to celebrate a family birthday there. Wow we weren’t disappointed. Very nice place to have a good meal with realy big portion size what will be equal to the price. Really recommend this place tho, to have nice meal out.

Nice pub, unfortunately neither myself or my husband have big appetites. We asked to share a burger, which was declined. When it arrived it was overfacing and neither of us enjoyed it. Such a lot of waste. They really need to accommodate people who do not eat much. The service was not good we waited an hour for desserts. Will not be going again.

Lovely service as always food ok.

The pub itself is lovely and the staff were great but the food was awful! The beer batter on the fish was well over greasy and the chips tasted strange. I actually had an upset tummy that night and wasn't very well at all.... and I wasn't the only one from that night in my group!

Top quality food with generous portion sizes. Definitely can recommend paella, sea bass or the chicken n chorizo pasta. Too full to try the desserts but could see these looked delicious.

Highly recommended, wonderful food excellent staff, impeccable service we will be back mainly to go through the menu, it’s that good.

A fantastic pub. Staff were great. We absolutely loved the decor, it was fascinating. It was busy when we visited, but quieter when we went back at the end of our night out. We only had drinks, so can't comment on the food, although there were many people dining. Will visit again if in the area again.

Quiet night so atmosphere not really relevant. Service very efficient. Food, great quality just the portions are too big. Meant having a takeaway box!! Reduced portion sizes might mean more dessert sales ;)

Food is always fabulous and the setting and service are excellent.

Came for Sunday roast today and we left quite disappointed. The meat was ok but the veg and all accompaniments essentially had very little flavour. I can see the owners are trying but for the price there is plenty better out there.

We had a lovely family meal over the Christmas holidays here. The food was fantastic and all the staff were fantastic throughout the evening

Great food and customer service

Went for a retirement meal with friends from work. Parking not obvious but it's at the back of the pub. Lovely inside and have an amazing winter wonder land seating area outside. Beautifully trimmed. Sorry didn't get chance for a photo. Food was very nice. When they served the food they new which meal belonged with name made it very easy and no confusion. I had steak pie peas gravy chips. Was a good size portion. Bowl of chips (more like wedges) were lovely and crispy and fluffy inside. 😋 pie was full to the crust with steak and you got your own gravey boat. Was very filling couldn't eat it all. Didn't have a starter or a pudding no room left. The only thing wrong is the prices are a little expensive. My meal was £17, and that was one of the cheapest meals. But again was very nice. Well worth a visit for special occasion.

My partners gammon said 12 oz no way so thin and small hiding under the two fried eggs .portion Suze small chips tasted old too. The waitress was a lovely young lady but even the table wasn't set out correctly mentioned this jokingly to her and she had absolutely no idea what we were saying. I'm afraid we won't be back!.

A good place to go if you have more money than sense. It's literally the exact same food every pub churns out on a daily basis at half the price. Even the drinks are fairly expensive.

An absolutely cracking pint of Guinness. The spread that they put on for after a funeral that we attended was very good, well presented and very tasty.

Not very nice Sunday dinner experience, watery mash looked and tasted bleak, roast potatoes cooked in old oil, very small portion of undercooked veg and £2.50 for a small lime and soda....simply not good enough sorry!

Roast of the day, mash potatoes with 2 slices of beef laid on top & 2 so called roasters, side dish with 2 pieces of colly,one piece of broccoli,a few carrots & red cabbage & a boat of gravy, a yorkshire pudding too, this i would give 4 out of 10 The sweet was rhubarb & ginger crumble with custard, terrible sweet,crumble wasn't crumble but soft, 4 out of 10 again
