Market Kitchen in Barnsley

Visited on a Thursday lunchtime, food OK ( Spudz)... But music so loud we had to nearly shout to be heard. 3 young girls behind bar, obviously not aware of the term "easy listening".....

Went shopping and visited Hilton's cafe that I been to this cafe section of Market Kitchen back in November 2022 and in June 2023 it was Market Kitchen. The Best of the cafes. Nice staff. Lovely food. I had a jacket potato with cheese and beans and a salad which I had a healthy meal at the Hiltons cafe . Both were scrummy and very healthy and very amazing . Can't beat it for the price. Recommend anyone to go and try and I gave the Market Kitchen a 10/10 for the awesome experience and hopefully I will go to this place in the future.

£13 for a goats cheese, Parma ham and rocket pizza! Was overcooked, hard and pretty average. Loads of ham on it covered up the burnt bits and underneath was dry! Wish I’d gone to Greggs for a pizza slice!

Sat outside for drinks & was immediately approached by security to swap our glasses for plastic beakers. They were very quick & made us feel we'd done something wrong. Why weren't we asked at the bar where we intended to sit? This happened to several people whilst we were there. Outside area covered in rubbish, plenty of staff around but no one interested in how bad the rubbish looked. Our table was filthy & had to ask for it to be cleaned. Unfortunately not everyone clears up after themselves but for staff to continually ignore it shows hygiene & littering aren't a prioity. There really was plenty of staff & couldn't believe how lax they were at keeping the place clean, tidy & inviting. We left after one drink although we did intend to eat there but decided to go somewhere cleaner. Hopefully they'll sort out they're priorities & bring it back to how it uses to be when it first opened.

Went to pauls cafe with hubby .. bought latte and large breakfast. Latte lovely .. breakfast horrible. Burnt toast burnt burnt bacon burnt sausages , cheap beans, had to have it laced with salt to make it taste better. Cold mushrooms which was boiled Felt very put off.

Expensive place for everything to eat or drink,

We ate at Meze Turkish kitchen the food was dreadful. It was cold the meat was tough and the staff were not helpful. The second time I returned my full plate of food they shouted at me and told me I should leave it on a table. They then proceeded to put my full plate of food on an empty table presumably to put others off ordering. Other places in the kitchen are lovely these guys are definitely letting the show down

Went while heavily pregnant and was struggling with a high chair for my one year old. A male member of staff just stood watching and laughed at me. I sent an email and was told I was lying.

Great place, but why does it have to be cold and draughty in most seating areas??...Found this on several visits.

Brilliant place , great atmosphere safe and friendly, had milky coffees from Paul's cafe, 5 star for £1.50. will be back to try the food from the other restaurants.

Stumbled across this when we visited the market below (Saturday afternoon approximately 3pm). A staff member recommended Market Kitchen as we were wondering where to go for nice cocktails. Lots of small food outlets (we didn’t the food but dishes that were coming out - kebabs, Asian food, pizzas looked delicious), very spacious, price of wine and lager reasonable, cocktails delicious. Good range of music at a reasonable volume. Lovely roof top terrace over looking the centre - can’t wait to come back in the summer months to sit outside catching the rays with a cocktail in each hand!

Visited on a number of occasions. Saturday by far the best atmosphere. Sundays not great as only 2 food vendors on which seems odd as footfall greater on Sunday than mid week evenings. Decent choice of food and bar as draught staples as well as good cocktail selection

Ate at Pou Poutine. Delicious food. Great lunch venue clean with helpful staff. Good atmosphere. I'd say it's a great meet up venue too.

The most expensive falafel Iv ever had 😡I wouldn’t have minded if it was nice . The falafel were dry and tasteless and the hummus was worse !! £2 for a bottle of cheap water …will not be going .

Great Yorkshire pudding lunch from Hilton's cafe. Tasty, substantial and very good value. Shame Bristol Rovers lost 2-1 to Barnsley later!

Called upstairs to the bar for the first time and discovered it does not sell bitters , seems to just cater for lager drinkers

If I could give 0 stars I would. Avoid Jar Bar like the plague, I had a horrible experience back in October with one of the servers and left a review reflecting that, I was contacted by the owner and provided a voucher, to give it "another chance", we've been today. & another owner won't honour the voucher I've been given, stated the owner has left and therefore all vouchers invalid. Will not be returning and will not be recommending to anyone. The service is crap and the food isn't even worth the wait or money.

Don't go to Pou Poutin if you want Quesadillias. They have clearly no clue what they are. Mine were nothing like the Mexican favourite at all. A complete rip off.

The Market Kitchen has a wide variety of places to order from with lots of different cuisines to choose from. There's plenty of seating but it still can be difficult to find somewhere to sit at peak times as it's so popular.

Great place to eat food with a good atmosphere And the all-day breakfast at Kay's Cafe was brilliant paid by chip & pin due to no cash my wallet So go for lunch & all you need is your debit card

Visited market kitchen for lunch while out with my family. I have to say it was not a pleasurable experience due to the fact it was absolutely freezing. I know it is a big place to heat and there’s a cost of living crisis at the moment but come on… it was warmer outside than inside. I feel sorry for all the staff working there, they do their best to accommodate customers and are always friendly and polite no matter which area you use. I didn’t want to stay very long and couldn’t wait to get out- how do staff go on when they work a 8/10 hour shift- is this against health and safety regs? Come on Barnsley council- GET SOME HEATING ON!

Would be a lovely venue if it wasn’t as cold, had to keep my coat on while having a meal and I’ve never had to do that anywhere else, won’t be coming back and it’s a shame

Been here a few times. Food good but some staff could be more friendlier! Seems like their job is a toil! Customers need to know they are appreciated. Paul's next door is better.

Very busy on a Saturday night but staff were lovely. Certainly somewhere I would go again!

Dollys, Amazing beautiful sweet treats and drinks Amazing halloween themed food. Highly reccomend and will be returning at another time.

Went to Kays cafe for a sausage butty & I witnessed some questionable hygiene practices. One of the ladies serving was shouting orders out & coughing all over peoples food & sometimes into her hands but didn't bother to wash her hands after. A short while after I started to feel a bit ill & started with an upset stomach, I suspect the poor hygiene practices had something to do with it.

Just been in with my husband for a drink. 2 young girls behind bar serving not a nice experience. They had said some thing to one another as I approached the bar ,they both started to whisper and were giggling .very juvenile not sure what was said but I said loudly to my husband some one is taking the piss which soon wiped the smile off there faces .not an experience I wish to repeat. Won't be going back made me feel uncomfortable.

Dolly's, just outside the market kitchen. Ice cream done so right. The serves one on the poster but easily serves two. Highly recommended.

Lots of choices. Quite busy, not a place to relax with a book in my experience with the amount of people there, but comfortable. Affordable prices, with a wirl wind of choices.

Market kitchen in Barnsley is fantastic. I’ve personally eaten at Nero’s pizza and Rajah Food. Both places have great quality food at reasonable prices. The atmosphere is always good and it’s a great place to go for a night out without the restriction of having to eat at one place. Last time we went my wife had the Thai food and that was delicious. Can’t wait for our next visit.

A big variety of food kitchens, from burgers, pizzas, curries to meze, simply find a table and decide what you want to eat, go and order and wait for your buzzer to go off then collect. There's a bar and also a cocktail bar.

I expected more than two food places to be open so was a little dissapointed but the food we had was lovely

We attended Paul’s Cafe and I ordered some food which came with a hot drink. Believing that the drink came with the food I left with my table buzzer and no drink. After 20 plus minutes I went to the desk and asked if my food was ready to which they stated “ we have been shouting you”. It transpired I was sat out of range for the buzzer system. My food was under a heater and was Luke warm and when I asked for a coffee I was looked at like I was asking for a second … Advice for the staff… Not everyone at your shop has been coming for years …. Advise them to take their drink straight away Advise them not to sit too far away as the buzzer system has a certain RADIUS!!!! The girl who serves you should instruct the girl on the hot drinks tower you need a drink. Basic stuff ( effort) to get rite rather than blaming customers… Not sure if I would put my cash there again

Order pork dinner from Kay's kitchen. Food was cold. Items missing. Small portion for "large meal", would have needed two to be full. Plenty of meat was the saving grace. Coffee was nice, tables were filthy. Wouldn't recommend

Shame about the new tables. The tops are made from wood slats that allow any spilled drinks to go through on to your legs. Also as the slats are spaced apart waste particles gather between the slats which means they are difficult to clean. This is obvious by looking at them now they have been here a few weeks.

Great place to go with a big group of people. Good variety of places to choose to order from. Lovely staff and good atmosphere.

Great environment and space to meet up and the food is amazing. Jar bar halloumi pretzel hoagie is my go to.

We went to Rajah Foods in the market Kitchen and decided on having a Mixed Kebab and chips and my missus had a Chcken Tikka Wrap. The mixed kebab was absolutely beautiful along with the fries and my missus’ rated the chicken tikka wrap as excellent too. We will definitely be back

Honest to God its by far the best place to eat and drink. I come in with my mum every week and the food and drinks from the cafes are delicious. The prices are cheap. I'm spending under £10 which is far better than some other places which are expensive.The pizzas are the best from the Market Kitchen. It's good because it caters for wheel chair users and older end. I bet its doing really well. I love the Market Kitchen, the amazing historic Market and the whole Glass Works. 🤞 There's more clothing shops coming.

Cucina lounge needs to sack which ever too girls were working yesterday. My friends ordered two mojitos and when they came the looked and tasted nothing like one. I was trying to not be patronising but I work in a cocktail bar and they asked me to try them to make sure before we sent them back and I can say were not mojitos. We sent them back after one sip and asked them politely to make another on which they became extremely rude and stated that it was a mojito they make them all the time and they would have to ask. I’d understand if the drink was half full but it wasn’t touched so don’t understand the issue. Then another girl came to the table and said she would “rather make it again then give us something else” 1. Who is she to dictate what someone can have as their drink if it’s been paid for 2. We said another drink because due to them being argumentative we knew they would only make the drink the same to prove a point. We paid them the difference and the girl slammed the drinks down and took the money without even a Thankyou. So rude.

We often visit Paul’s Cafe , their all day breakfast is highly recommend, it’s always consistently good . Staff also friendly.

Called at the Dolly’s Desserts shop (not market), the flavours on offer were limited for my taste. The queue was long and staff could not cope. The tables were dirty. Strawberries and banana pieces were all over the floor and slippy. Chocolate sauce was all...

We meet here every month food is basic but okay for the money but the bar prices are expensive the last time we went we had just ordered food when the air conditioning came on it was really cold not good in March we complained...

We arrived to find it was Happy Hour for cocktails! Bonus! A really popular addition to Barnsley Town Centre. Just wish the tables were cleared a little more often.

Meze Turkish kitchen Spent £69.00 on 4 meals Sat 18th Feb, food was nice but went and asked for some Mayo as the fries were abit dry and bland without sauce, they charged a further £1 for a tiny pot of Mayo like you help yourself to in mcdonalds Its disgusting when we had paid all that for the meals. Day light robbery!! So wont be going back there on principle.

Wow this place was a great find! There are so many food stations to choose from at such affordable prices! They have tons of seating. This is a few steps from all the shopping so it’s a great place to grab a bite while shopping. Food was great. Definitely check them out!!

Went here for lunch to meet a friend the bar service was good and friendly but I ordered a bbq chicken panini from Neros and was told the chicken had just come out and it would be 3 minutes 30 minutes later I approached to ask if my buzzer wasn’t working they said it wouldn’t be long my buzzer went off and and I was served the carcinogenic heap of burnt food you can see on the photo gallery I didn’t want to ask for it to be re done as I was afraid they might spit in it will not order from that particular outlet again

Had fabulous lunch at Meze would definitely recommend great food reasonable priced great service. However bar prices very expensive £7 for a glass of Luke warm wine by staff not really interested in serving. Disappointing!!

Called in for a Friday lunchtime drink, there were a good number of customers tacking advantage of the good range of food outlets. Good relaxed atmosphere nice background music. Beers a little expensive that said most places are. Well worth a visit, lots of seating areas, well spaced out with a good size outside area but not in February.

I was very disappointed. I went there on Sunday and was told at 11 only one place is open, the rest opening on 12. Went another week at 3pm on Sunday and 2 places were open! The rest closed and 2 places which state on the website OPEN ON SUNDAY weren't. Very misleading. 30 Min waiting time for a burger and 20 min in another Stall for a kebab... No other options. Prices like in restaurants, waiting times as well... But you get a paper plate and no waitress experience. The place is dead on Sunday.

We had a ham salad sandwich on a lovely fresh brown teacake it was very good with lots of ham and boiled egg salad and a great mug of tea great value for money !

Jar Bar is our favourite and price is reasonable.

Good atmosphere, but…… no ice on a Saturday night and the peroni I’m drinking is hotter than the shower I had tonight. I know things happen but the bar staff would help if they understood how to smile and be friendly.

The pizza from Nero’s is absolutely spectacular! I very rarely go to Barnsley, but I’m now finding excuses to. Fast service and great quality.

Kay's Cafe, great food at a fab price!

I’ve eaten all over the world and this is without a doubt the filthiest place I’ve seen. The windows look like they’ve never been cleaned, everything g is sticky, there’s debris all over and surfaces the look like they have been wiped appear to have...

Absolutely filthy!! I’ve never seen anything so bad the windows look like they’ve not been cleaned since it opened, everything was sticky and smeared.. Too overweight guards stood in the way of a corridor chatting. Impossible to order we left and went elsewhere

Great place ans choice and lovely food

We have now visited various food places in the market kitchen and all been good. The food is good quality, good priced and a great atmosphere in a nice place. Will continue to use this place it’s great.
