We seem to be always returning to the keys as we find a lot of other eateries just aren’t trying. The food is always really good, compliments to the chef! The service is good too. I think the only thing I would add is please take the pretend foliage off the tables - looks tacky or replace with real flowers. Wipe the salt and pepper pots. Other than that 10/10

First visit with friends but won’t be the last . Food was great, beer was chilled, atmosphere was just right. Nicely decorated and the staff were excellent we shall return

Just been to the keys for fish and chips. I ordered a large fish and hand cut chips with mushy peas for £16.95. I got a large plate of hand cut chips and a very small tasteless fish. In my opinion £16.95 is a lot of money for a plate of hand cut chips

Called in for a quick snack and a pint, quickly shown a table, good service, snap nice and hot, my girlfriend lost her bracelet here the honest young staff found it and we managed to get it back. Thank you KEYS 🔑

Food lovely. Had the kebabs. Was a long wait for food though as they were really busy on tues with the b.o.g.o.f offer. Got there for 6 and food arrived at 7.10pm.

Second time to eat here. We had the sharing platter for 2. It was lovely. Everything was hot, fresh and tasty 😋

We arrived and had a couple of cocktails whilst there was a live singer entertaining everyone. And then, then the food arrived. Wow! The food was exquisite! The best muscles I have tasted in the UK. Our waitress Isobelle was fabulous, friendly, tentative and knowledgeable. A fabulous evening, but that food is to die for, cannot recommend highly enough. I will be back, it is worth the 3 hour drive. XxX

Matilda although very young was very friendly and efficient and kept a good customer service even though this pub is very under staffed at what is a very busy time. The food was nice. More drinks could have been had with more staff and we were.on separate tables that didn't help Well.done matilda

Unfortunately the food wasn’t very good. Think we must have come on a bad day. Ordered fish and chips for £16.50. Fish was quite small, overcooked and fish was tough inside . Chips not much better. Sent it back and it came back with only a slight improvement, however the staff were absolutely lovely so no complaints there. Probably would have something different if went again.

AD|INVITE We class The Keys as fairly local to us, and as well as serving delicious food, they often host events making it a popular venue with other locals. BUT we have always been impressed by the food here and I believe for the slightly higher prices than your standard local pub, the extra quality and taste does come through and is worth it. What we have enjoyed so far; Malay Satay Chicken (£8.50) – big chunks of chicken and the satay sauce is very rich & flavoursome – I 100% recommend this “small” plate. Sizzling King Prawns (£9.50) – this came with chorizo and juicy tomatoes and a warm sourdough bread bun with butter. A lovely, tasty starter/small plate. Onion Bhaji Burger (£16) AND we upgraded the fries to Salt & Pepper Chips. A great Veggie burger that was satisfying but not bulky and over-facing. The mango chutney and raita dips were fab with this. The chips were soooo good, with just a hint of chilli. Steak & Padron Pepper Hanging Skewer (£18) – these are served with fries, salad and a delicious chimichurri sauce. The steak was so tender this was definitely the star of the show! Mac & Cheese side dish (£5) – this was a massive side dish portion – def one for sharing, but it is soooo cheesy it was to die for. This place has a real homely, pub vibe to it with a large but cosy, inviting dining area inside and a decent beer garden, and the service is friendly and really welcoming. A great place for both a casual or occasion visit. There are many other dishes on the menu to tickle your taste-buds, such as; Seafood Linguine, Steak & Ale Pie, Chicken Tikka Massala, Poke Bowl etc as well as Desserts such as New York Cheesecake, Chocolate Bombe and much more. The Keys also serve fabulous Sunday Dinner (which we’ve had tried and approved 👌🏼) AND a Saturday Bottomless Brunch for £35 which includes their infamous skewers, burgers or 2 small plates and 90 mins of bottomless drinks! I think we’ll have to head down for that on our next visit. A lunch Menu is also available and between Monday – Thursday 12pm – 5pm you can get 3 courses for £16 on this menu.

Good food and service, had to wait longer than expected and a few things weren't available from the menu.

Just had a lovely meal at the Keys Hoyland Common. 5 of us in the party all enjoyed a lovely meal. All of us chose the light bite menu. 3courses. All excellent. Staff and service were excellent. Will definitely return

Booked for tonight at short notice, only room in the bar area but staff very friendly and helpful.. food was on a bogof offer, absolutely beautiful presentation and tasted good too. Re-booked for next Tuesday..if you haven't been, please try it and keep local pubs open 😀

Been a few times recently. Food is good and the staff are amazing. The only thing lacking is green veg on the Sunday roast.

We had a family get together as one of us is Emigrating, we chose here because the food and service has always been consistent and I have to say this time around it was outstanding, we ordered 6 meals and every one was completely perfect and the Team there could not do enough to ensure we were OK. We would recommend eating here for any occasion and anybody who hasn't yet tried should do. Thanks to all the team at the Keys for making our experience excellent. 5 Starts plus for everything.

I'm not going to lie, I was very disappointed with the steak and ale pie. Lots of fat in in so not the best quality. I expected better for the price. Other members of my group enjoyed theirs though.

Bottomless brunch ftw, very attentive staff and cosy

This place had been recommended by friends... But... FRIDAY NIGHT... We 3 mature women were turned away at 10.26pm saying last orders had been called so we were not able to have a drink. Thought those days were gone in the 70s!! Maybe they just wanted a private party!! Wont be returning to try the food.

The staff were really nice in here can't thank them enough for welcoming us with such kindness, the food was really nice and the long island iced tea we had, we will definitely be back again

Food was lovely but on literally just finishing out dessert we were told can we clear the table in the next 5 mins. So much so it made the people on the table next to us comment on it. We only ate as fast as we were served and I found this a little abrupt.

Chilled atmosphere where everybody is welcome. Comfortable feeling as soon as you walk in. I haven't had food in about 5/6 years here, I'm sure it's a 10. It's perfect for drinks between the two/three/four or more of you. The staff are more than accommodating .

We visited for a special occasion Birthday tea for my son. There was 11 of us in total and we booked for 5pm. Food was average, the prawn skewer was dry and cold, we were fairly happy with the rest of the food. We spent well over £300 including drinks. At about 6.45pm we asked to order desserts for the 3 children we had with us ages 8, 7 and 5 to be told that we only had another 10 minutes at our table as it was required for another booking which we found bizarre as the area we were in was relatively empty. Hence had to rush the kids to eat their deserts. It certainly put a dampner on our evening and celebrations. I hope the reason we were rushed to leave was not because we had the children, as this is how we all felt due to the fact that their were many other tables empty.

Great food, freshly cooked to order, nice people, pub diner atmosphere. Very busy when we went, about 7pm, service was still prompt. Of course, if it's busy, the food could take a little longer to come.

Really great I love how they have thatchers on tap yum also the Cajun wrap was really nice - would rename it to Cajun taco as a wrap is wrapped around but that’s me being picky

Great place! We had Szechuan pork skewers and they were beautiful! The meat was so tender and the sauce that came with it was so flavorful! Nice big portions.

The night we we t it was very busy with drinkers and diners. It was very loud, especially when the live music started. The staff were friendly enough and the food was reasonable.

Wow! This is always an experience and The Keys never disappoints. Food is outstanding. The menus change but the quality remains high and at a reasonable price too.

My sister and her husband came from Hamburg to see me for lunch and we all love coming to the Keys. We had a gorgeous meal, served by lovely staff.

We’ve been to The Keys, three times now for a meal. Each time before we book, I read some of the reviews. Most are 5/5 positive, but some criticise everything. Which could put off people from eating / drinking there. I think that’s unfair, because every time we’ve been everyone & everything has been 5/5 and we can’t wait to go there for a meal again!!

Terrible food the keys burger stale bun massively overcooked burger. Wont be returning

The staff were all young girls but were the only good part of our experience and were really lovely! We should’ve walked out on seeing the menus.. The torn paper menus with dried food caked on them were gross.. I had the pie and it was over done, hard as nails crust with the driest filling.. it came with gravy but that was bland and had strange jelly like lumps in it and the mushy peas were a cold, solid lump.. My husband had the gammon, the egg was solid and the chips may look good but are not.. Suffice it to say we will not be going back any time soon.

After having Sunday lunch here a few wks ago decided to return. What a let down. Gravy was like pouring water over the meal, 2 tiny florets of cauli & broccoli generous amount of carrots all I think were frozen& the meat was no way cut from a roasted joint, more like micro wave beef. Best part of meal was the dessert. Unfortunately we won't be returning to eat a Sunday again

A great day out at the Keys, a man sitting outside with his guitar singing. Men and women taking part in a strong man and woman contest. Absolutely fantastic to watch. Highly recommended if you want great mind blowing show. Amazing.

Terrible, terrible, terrible! We had a table for 7 people. My order was 10oz sirloin steak, It arrived cold and was probably 6oz flattened to look bigger. I sent that back and they sent another terrible steak, it was supposes to be medium well and was raw. Anyway! Less about my meal and into the next meal. My daughter ordered mushroom risotto... cold, tastless and mushy. My son ordered sirloin beef Sunday dinner... bland, tasted microwaved and not worth the money. My 1 year old grand daughter had the kids meal, chicken goujons and chips, the salt on the chips and the salt and black pepper in the goujons should never be put in a child's menu. We will never go back again! Terrible food and terrible environment. Waitress told us, "she was hanging from last night. so couldn't be arsed"

Lived in Hoyland for a year now and only just tried the keys due to mixed reviews.. The service was excellent. The decor, fashionable, the place clean and well presented. The food was great. We had lamb hanging kebab and steak pie. Good portions, excellent taste - really enjoyed it. We will be back!!

Really disappointed on our visit today, we've been multiple times for food and always enjoyed it. However today we arrived and requested food outside as we had our dog with us, we were provided a menu and purchased drinks, 10 minutes later after deciding what we wanted we were told "we aren't serving outdoors any more as we are too busy but you can come inside, but not with a dog". The table we were on was a 10 second walk from the entrance 🙄 Had to leave without food, don't really understand why. 😕

Went in for a couple of pints with a friend. Great staff and lovely inside/out, but pricey. Can't comment on the good as didn't eat.

We visited as we were celebrating ours sons results from collage. We'd never been before and everything was lovely. The staff were lovely and so thorough and so friendly. The food was just amazing and we'll frfinatwly bw back. We had burgers, pie,wishes for £21 and all the food was perfect. Really was impressed and only around the corner dromedary us.

Came here for Sunday lunch, having previously been to many pubs in the peaks on Sundays. Service was excellent with friendly and attentive staff. I went for the chicken of which little there was was unfortunately was tasteless and dry. I had to use a knife to cut through the mashed potato. Vegetables over cooked with no taste. Very disappointed.

I came here to eat with my husband and 2 children. I ordered the prawns and my husband had the cajun chicken wraps. When the food was brought out, I was handed my prawns and the inside of the wraps then fell off the plate over my jeans. (I didn't get an apology from the waitress) the food was amazing. When we had finished, we wanted some more drinks but there was no sign of our waitress. My husband went up to the bar and was told someone would come to our table to take our drinks order. Our main then came out (our plates from our starters still on the table) they took half the plates away but left the rest. We didn't have any cutlery so I had to go and find some myself. I also cleared our table at the same time. Unfortunately the service we received was far from good. The food was lovely. I would probably understand more if it was busy but on Monday it was very quiet.

Busy place which suggested good food. We were not disappointed either, good sized portions. All cooked as ordered (medium rare, well done ect.). Staff are attentive without being in your face.

A family of 5 ate here on the evening of 13th of July. The pub was very quiet, which suited is. Orders were taken promptly and politely. Food arrived, and was mostly eaten, except the curried fish and mussels. We felt the two didn't go together. Suddenly everything seemed to speed up! The table was being cleared while we still eating, and we were being pushed to order our coffee as the staff wanted to clean the coffee machine. It was only 9.30! We were visiting the area, so unlikely we'll visit again .

Decent Place. Really improved the food. Lovely food now and a good selection. Recommended.

A nice village pub which is located minute's from junction 36 off the M1 motorway, ( Cross Keys, Hoyland Common ) The food was excellent, the menu was good and when our food came we enjoyed ever course it was by far the best Quality food in any pub we have visited over the years. Plus it' was also great value, What a surprise when the bill came, we shall certainty enjoy eating here again. Thanks to the excellent staff, & management.

We decided to try this on impulse. It had a good atmosphere and we choose a quite inside table. The young girl that served us was polite and helpful. The menu offered a good choice and the prices seemed in line with restaurant rarther than cafe-bar prices. The quality of food was good but my partner wasn't as impressed with his choice as mine. He choose a mixed grill and I choose the 3 dishes for £20 ie a mixture of starters kofta, meatballs chick stripes, bread,dips salad etc. He said his was not as good as expected and felt undercooked especially as he had asked for medium to well done. The drinks were OK I had a tonic water and lemonade. He had a local larger. Overall it made a nice change and the service was quick and polite. I don't think we would choose to eat here regularly but may try again with different choices. This pub does get busy and I believe may do functions and events etc. Mostly local people come here to sit outside on a hot day.

The food was mediocre at best. There was no drinks available on draft and the service is now bar service, where before you could open a tab. Definitely not as nice as it used to be.

The Steak & Guiness Pie was the best I have tasted in a very long time. It was filled to the brim with beautiful lean steak. The Pastry so crisp. They also have Hendersons Relish & as a Yorkshire lass it’s a must. The Food was amazing.

There have been definite changes here, not for the better. The sandwich I had was good, fries weren't fresh though, onion rings were way too greasy so we couldn't finish them and my wife's calamari was over cooked and greasy. It's now 'order at the bar', possibly to avoid paying extra staff, and after we'd left we found out it's 2 meals for £15 on a Tuesday which I thought they'd stopped doing as it doesn't display it anywhere inside so we missed out, if we'd enjoyed what we'd had I wouldn't have minded but that wasn't the case. We'll give our business to the other pubs in future, disappointing as it's our local but I feel whoever is managing it isn't thinking about customers which are necessary to keep the doors open so I'd think again if I was them. If you don't drop on a "deal" you'll feel you've had a mediocre, overpriced meal. The staff, as usual, were lovely though.

Simple food is done well. Fast service we really enjoyed it. We, as a family, have been twice now and have never been disappointed.

Waited ages for our food, then it was overcooked, need more staff because they can't cope if there are too many people in at once, overprice food and drinks, avoid at all cost.

Would not recommend...waited a long time for food to arrive...I ordered barnsley chop it was overcooked so not that good..I didn't have a dessert but my husband did..he had a chocolate brownie which was very dry...on the plus side the pork cracking was delicious

My food was great but wife's hummus was bland. If she'd wanted more flavour should have had my lamb 😂 (she's a veggie by the way) Staff were lovely, we were a little awkward. Rowdy hen party or something going on so felt like a 90s nightclub with the lights turned on. Decent pub grub though

Food was not fresh produce potatoes were frozen potatoes I got a small piece of broccoli a small piece of cauliflower a hard Yorkshire pudding but the only saving grace was the meat which you get plenty of ..high price for poor food wouldn't recommend wont be going back

Customer service was excellent and food was excellent value for money. I had grilled prawns, calamari and chilli beef bao buns, whilst my partner had the mixed grill. Good value for money! 👍

Food was lovely when it arrived but waiting time of an hour was not acceptable especially when it didn’t seem that busy. Our waitress was very apologetic but clearly they have issues with staffing.We will not be returning in the future I’m afraid.

We went as a family of 5 for lunch, 4 adults 1 child, the pub was not overly busy but on our arrival when we were shown to our table we were greeted with the waitress saying we are very busy and there will be a 40 min wait. This means that we were sat at our table for which turned into over an hour with a 2 yr old that was hungry. When the food finally arrived it was not worth the wait, the Barnsley chop was very poor with hardly anything else on the plate, not good for a hungry man and it was £15. It was our first visit and it will be our last

The Keys is a great spot, serving lovely pub food (good size portions!). The staff are always really friendly and it has a lovely atmosphere. Will visit again!
