Had the fish and chips meal at The Edmunds, the fish was massive with crispy batter. My friend had the bean chilli which she enjoyed. The pub was quiet when we visited, but may get busy at times, so maybe it's best to book a table . Nice place and friendly staff, plenty of parking. The decor could do with an update as a bit old fashioned, but a nice village pub.

Just been for dinner with friends, good value for money, excellent food and atmosphere, nice to be in a venue where you can talk without loud music or phones ringing constantly. Landlord, Landlady and all staff very pleasant and they always have time for a chat. The only issue I found if you have mobility issues is its not very good to get over the threshold of the main entrance but staff are always happy to help. Would have no issues recommending this venue.

Yet another lovely meal at the Edmunds came before Christmas and again for a family meal and it did not disappoint. Home cooked food with home made chips were delicious, nice friendly staff. As this is a Samuel Smiths pub no TV, music, phones or devices which was nice to spend time talking to each other for a change! Looking to book our next meal here soon.

Thankyou for the welcome and our delicious tea 👌

Four of us booked in for a Saturday night meal, when we got there the car park was empty, (bad sign) once inside we were surprised to find we were the only ones there apart from two local guys in the taproom. The meal was fine, and the girl serving was fine, but apparently the Brewery that own it, (Sam Smiths) don't allow mobile phones, no background music, or tvs etc, so we sat there for two and a half hours and not another soul came in, so no atmosphere at all, we used to go there 30 years ago and you had to book well in advance to get a table. The management have got it all wrong! We won't be going back!

Went over two years ago and endured the worst customer service I have ever had. (See previous comment for details). I am, however, fair. I heard the Edmunds had a new manager so, after 6 months of thinking about it, 4 of us were sent out as the recce party. A change in staff makes an incredible difference!! A lovely, warm welcome with a bit of chat, the lady in the kitchen came out and discussed what was on the menu, we made our choice and excellent food appeared a while later. Suffice to say the Edmunds Arms is now back on the "Approved" list.

Love this pub, great selection of drinks and food. Used it for years. Lovely friendly service. Absolutely hate locals/regulars that think they are more important than anyone else and insist and are allowed f to stand in doorway inside the building and smoke, makes the whole place stink!! So rude, but yet easy to sort, please do as no other faults.

I would like to say a massive thank you to the Edmunds Arms and its lovely Staff. Today, we had the Wake for my Mother-in-law at the Edmunds Arms and it was excellent. The food was really good and there was plenty of it. The Staff could not have been more obliging and the room that they allocated for us was perfect. It just couldn't have been any better. I’ve been going in here for years on and off but my visit 2 days ago will be my last. I don’t know if the pub has been taken over but if it has I thought a brewery like Sam Smiths would have more about it than this. I walked in the pub at just gone 3 only to find unattentive bar staff and a girl behind the bar in her PJ’s dropping glasses off from I assume the private residence. I than saw countless youths coming and going and there was a distinct smell of someone smoking coming from some near the bar. The pub was dead yet I found myself struggling to get served. Needless to say I will not return if I wanted to be surrounded by kids I would go to Brewers Faye. This could be such a nice pub but I fear it will be yet another to fall victim to a dying trade

Seemingly gone are the days when you can walk into a pub and be met by a friendly face. What I was met with today was nothing short of shocking. We wanted food but that seemed to be impossible. We are rudely informed that the kitchen was closed and would be for a while. We order drinks and was greeted by a grunt. I know that due to the current situation that prices have to increase but you would usually expect to product to be quality. I’ve seen more life in water than the Taddys I ordered. There were empty glasses everywhere and the pub was filthy. There is also a strong smell of someone smoking somewhere in the pub. To top this off the pub had the feel of an underaged youth club with what can only be described as kids all over the place. But the true icing on the cake was the regular appearance of someone In pyjamas screaming into her phone behind the bar bringing empty glasses from somewhere certainly not anywhere in the pub because it was deserted. If this is what a Samuel Smiths pub has become I fear for the company which has always been a byword for the traditional pub

It is with glee that I wirte yet another fancastic review for this pub/restaurant! We have been visiting the Edmunds Arms now for a number of years and have become somewhat of a regular. I have left many a fantastic verbal review with the managment. However, after seeing what I can only describe as a pathetic review left by some ''childish disgruntled customers'', I thought it was my time to get my view across. Reece and the team and Edumunds Arms are nothing short of fantastic, even though these horrible times of COVID-19 the staff have been welcoming, accomodating and as always excellent hosts. However, on Wednesday (12th August 2020) evening we witnessed something quite comical. There was an unnamed, customer sprawled across the bench seating barking orders at the staff, being very rude and displaying generally unacceptable behavior. All because the restaurant was busy and their requests were unable to be met. I wanted to personally say that Reece and team and fantastic hosts and I hope that they are not undetermined by the vastly untrue and negative reviews that have been left by moronic individuals. 5* PUB, 5* SERVICE. Well done for being part of the 'Eat out to help out scheme too'!! To the invidual I am refering to: I did not appreciate my picture being taken without my prior consent, I am a fellow customer of the pub and do not wish to be included in your ill attempted rant. I also find it incomprehensible that you have named individuals who work at this fine establishment. In my personal opinion, this amounts to slander. Also, I hear you have not visited the pub since before lockdown began - well, we have. I can confirm to you that the staff at Edmunds Arms reacted swiftly, professionally and have had to adhere quickly to new policies created by Government. Remember, it is just as much out of their control as it is yours. All you needed to do as apply a little logic and understand everyone at the Edmunds is doing the best that they possibly can.

It is with heavy heart I write this review. I have given the Edmunds Arms, Worsborough Road, Worsborough, good reviews in the past but last nights Customer Service and communication was totally unacceptable and has irretrievably ruined the relationship. I telephoned at 14.46 and asked Dawn for a table for 5 at 7pm that night. She informed me there was a large party in for 7pm asking us to come earlier. I explained I would need to ask others if they could get there earlier. I informed Dawn it might take a while to contact them and get replies and did I need to confirm a time now. She said it would be OK to arrive and order when we got there. We had all arrived by 6.45 and asked the person behind the bar, Reece, if we could order. Reece, wearing a “Let us talk” T-shirt mumbled “We are too busy, you have to book” (See photo to identify the hoards cramming in the pub). I explained the situation, Reece very helpfully(!) asked if I had phoned another pub that is on Edmunds Road, (interestingly there is a pub on Edmunds Road, Worsborough Dale – about 2 KM away - and easily confused with the Edmunds Arms as it is called The Boatman’s Rest!!) Having looked up my phone records I confirmed it was the EA at 14.46… and Reece went around the other side of the horse-shoe shaped bar. After @ 4 minutes he re-appeared, and we asked what was happening. All I can describe is there was a “professional” rolling of eyes, a slump of shoulders and a deep sigh – body language for “I don’t need this, go away”. He agreed to talk to the kitchen for us. When he returned, he again went to the far side of the bar, with no eye-contact or verbal communication. Eventually he emerged from behind the mirror and we asked what the kitchen had said. This was met with silence then “Nuthin’ I can do”. We offered to just have a chip butty each. Reece turned and went back to the dark side. We had now been in the EA for an hour and asked to see the Manager. Sue arrived and said we should have booked. I explained the situation and Sue nodded her head and walked to the dark side. A few minutes later she returned and informed me that I was wrong about my telephone conversation and that “Dawn doesn’t lie” Asked if she was accusing me of being a liar she replied “I am not saying anyone is lying”. To move things along, I agreed the phone call could be mis-remembered by both parties. I then highlighted the highly impressive communication and customer service skills Reece had exhibited. She defended Reece saying, “His communication is good”. Strangely, she could not give me any explanation as to why she was unaware of our request for chip butties. We asked Reece why our request had not been passed on and he replied, “I thought you were being sarcastic”. To maintain professionalism and temper 2 of our 5 now left the pub. Sue said that 7pm had been particularly busy (@10 in the restaurant and 7 or 8 eating outside) and we should have booked, or Dawn leave her a message. She said that if she had known about this earlier, she could have done us something after the rush!!!! Being calm and polite, I did point out the saga had begun over an hour ago and our offer to have butties had been evaluated and prevented by Reece and his excellent communication skills. I expressed my disappointment at this poor service as I was not used to it on my regular visits. At this point Sue admitted that she recognised me and knows I have been there for food and or drinks for over 3 years. At this point she went away, and Reece continued communicating on the dark side. The only apology was a less than heart felt “Sorry” from Reece re his mistakenly thinking our Chip butty request was sarcastic. No apology for the miscommunication over the phone call No apology re complete lack of customer care or skills by Reece No apology re lack of communication between bar and kitchen At no point in the entire evening did Reece smile at anyone, even when a new customer entered and bought their first drinks. On top of it all we went to EA on Wednesday evening because we like it there, even though they are the only pub in the area that are NOT in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme!!! I must now agree with others reviews that the EA is getting worse. Our work bubble will NOT be returning.

I never like to leave poor reviews and feel that I am always extremely fair and open minded always trying to give hard working and often young staff the benefit of the doubt. However.... having visited the Edmunds Arms and reflected over the past 24 hours I really need to express the level of disappointment at how we were treated by the "staff" and i use the phrase "staff" very loosely. We were a party of 5 and having been told earlier in the day we did not need to book we arrived looking forward to some nice pub food. We ordered drinks and I began looking at the menu on the bar only to be grunted at that "you can't have food, you haven't booked". My friend explained that he had spoken to someone earlier and she said we did not need to book. The "gruntee" then went to the kitchen to ask if we could have food. Upon returning he just disappeared behind the back of the bar and said nothing. When he appeared again 10 minutes later i asked him if our request had been successful, he then said they were too busy, to which i looked round to see a virtually empty pub. (We did find out later that they had a party of 10 and a party of 7 to cater for..... yes that's 17 people !!!! ) Becoming slightly bemused i again asked him if he would ask the kitchen again, my friend even showed him the proof of the call on his phone as he seemed to be intimating we were just chancing our luck ! With a large sigh and a drop of his sloping shoulders "Charlie Chuckles" departed for the kitchen, as he was on his way i said "if it helps we'll have 5 Chip Butties". Deja Vu ensued and he again returned and said nothing, simply doing his best Paul Daniels impression of disappearing in a puff of smoke which he seems to have perfected to a tee. After what seemed a lifetime (10 minutes !!) he once again he reappeared from the back of the bar to which i asked to speak to the person in charge. Looking at me like i was speaking a foreign language he left to plough his now familiar furrow to the kitchen with all the energy of a Tortoise carrying some very heavy shopping. At this point a very nice lady appeared smiling and very apologetic and to her credit she did say we could have food later in the night, unfortunately it was too late for us, especially after Mr Charisma had wasted almost an hour playing "hide and seek" behind the bar. We would have had better conversation with Marcel Marceau ! When I explained that we would have been happy with a Chip Butty (and had said as much) the lady looked at me surprised only for my favourite Bartender to pipe up and say in his best Lurch voice "I thought you were being sarcastic" !!!! Not being known for random acts of violence i made my apologies to my friends and left stating i would not be returning. Its such a shame that this historically beautiful pub is being let down by very poor customer service the like of which would make Basil Fawlty proud. However, the highlight of the evening was clearly Mr Charisma's T shirt sporting the slogan "Lets Talk".. No doubt given to him as someone with a sense of humour who thought the customers might like it...... in the words of the aforementioned Mr Daniels.. did we like it.... not a lot.

I know some of the brewery rules are a bit silly, for example the banning of mobile phones, but it's a traditional boozer with extremely well priced ale, it needs a decent menu and a decent landlord/landlady to get the place back to some sort of normality and then hopefully everyone that stopped visiting will return

As a group of around 8 we use this pub as a meeting point to catch up every few weeks. Done this for years and pub is great with good cheap beers.Offsetting all this is the installation of the latest landlady for about a year. Over that time it’s become obvious to us all what a dour woman she is.She calls it banter but every time she comes over to our table she tests us like naughty school kids (we’re all in early 50’s...) and tries to belittle any one or all of us.Over the year she’s been installed, we’ve noticed the number of people has dwindled to a fraction of what it used to be and based on last nights remarks from her it will do so by a further 8 or so going forward. So if you per chance read these reviews at the Sam Smiths brewery head office, please find a decent landlady or landlord. The pub is great and always has been but I cannot spend anymore of my social time getting slapped down by this woman. I’m out to enjoy myself with my friends and it’s no longer enjoyable.Till things change, I won’t be using this pub again...Andy

This has been my local pub for years. I'm not a big beer drinker but I do enjoy going out to eat. I used to eat here 2/3 times a week 20yrs ago. But due to the owner declaring the food that can be sold must come from one of his own producing company this now means that only PING food is served. (microwaved) Put bluntly I ain't eating that muck. This has resulted in god knows how many managers and local people not frequenting the pub like it used to be. I personally like the beer having drunk it for nearly 50yrs. The pub left alone by the breweries upper management and allowed to sell good home cooked food would be one of the best in Barnsley. I believe Sunday lunch is home cooked but I haven't tried this so I cannot comment. But for good drink at very reasonable prices it can't be beaten. Well worth a visit.

Choir service at the church scheduled for 1830. No one turned up So plan B kicked in. A half pint at the bar. Pub seemed more popular than the church. Good beer, great landlord great customers. Great hour spent. Will return next time the vicar falls to turn up, which will probably be tomorrow. Cheers.

As a creature of habit I decided that perhaps it was my hearing and sight that was at fault for my last visit, so I, and my mates, decided to go for another evening meal at this, our most visited eatery. The beer/lager as good as ever, superb product at very sensible prices. So far, so good; The next step on the road to heaven was to find out that proper, fat, homemade chips had been returned to their rightful place on this menu. Sadly, the road to heaven took a fork and we found ourselves on the road to hell. Great pies, delicious gammon, scrumptious steak all served with cardboard apologies for chips. Now, don't get me wrong, the chips are the same as you get at an ordinary restaurant - better than the tasteless string from Kay Efces or Mack doughnuts, but not good enough to be placed alongside the rest of the food plated up here. The chef is of high quality, the food he serves is delightful, apart from these krapi things apltly named after our European cousins. I have been told by 3 different sources that the decision to go with pre-cut, frozen, dehydrated potatoes is so that they have better portion control. Apparently these chips give less margin for error in portion size than free-range wonky potatoes. Perhaps the bean counters and widget measurers should have a meeting with their local Fish & chip shop owner to find out how they manage portion control, forecast volumes required and quality standards to be achieved by talking to the owner. Anyway enough is satisfactory and we will, from now on, be eating at another pub about 2 miles away from the Edmund's that does do proper, fat homemade chips. Please let me know if the Barff-brains in HO see sense and fat chips make a return....

We arrived just after 1730hrs and ordered our food and drinks. I had the Beef and Ale Pie and my partner Chicken and Bacon Salad. When the food was ready we were shown into the Dining Room and wee ate Top Quality food. This Pub is off the beaten track but is well worth a visit.

We've never eaten here, but the beer is good and the beer garden is a sun trap in the warm weather. A great pub in which to while away a Sunday afternoon.

Went with a party of 12 for a meal after a local funeral and was pleasantly surprised at the large size of the portions and the very reasonable price of the food. We had steaks, fish, lasagna among other items things. Check the specials board behind the bar as items not on the menu are always available. You have got to have the chocolate brownie. It is the most amazing brownie I have eaten anywhere. Wonderful, old local village with a peaceful atmosphere. Plenty of parking and friendly staff.

We four lunch once a week in the Barnsley area. On arrival we had to walk through a screen of smoke at the entrance[why are smokers allowed to smoke around the entrance to the pub]. We asked for a bottle of wine, only to be told that Sam Smiths[the owners of the pub] do not allow the sale of bottles only glasses. We inspected the menu, there was nothing on it that we wanted to eat, we went on to the Boatmans Rest and had a great lunch.
