Just came here for drinks for the most part and seeing food come out of the kitchen and thought "we gotta try this one day" So we did Food was mediocre at best. Just your generic pub grub. Nothing to shout about. Service was abysmally slow despite it being nearly empty. I sense staffing issues? Overall, it would've worked out cheaper to go 'spoons lol Going here for lunch? - maybe Going here for evening dinner? - hell no!

Needs a manager on site. No one to seat us, slow service and well over an hour for our food to arrive. Reserved a table but they were all taken mostly with people just drinking. Food was totally average yet expensive.

Took my family of six 4 adults and 2 under 5s for a Sunday treat. Adults had a burger each and one soft drink each. The bill came to £90.70p ( kids eat for free) . I know prices have increased I'm just glad the kids ate for fee. The portions were very small and just warm. I won't be going again. There's far better elsewhere in the town centre area

Food wasn’t bad at all to be fair, but it took so long. It wasn’t busy at all but it took so long. Booked in for 6:30 only just finished in time to get to lamproom for 8pm

Arrived for 5.45 reservation,shown to dangerous table which manager didnt bother fixing,placed order,waited an hour for a burger then to be told we were next,so we left,not happy.Place has gone down hill

Third time of eating here, only because others chose it. Everytime the food has taken an hour to come and it’s been empty. The food is always poor quality and lukewarm.

The service last night was shocking! It was Saturday, it was busy and there was also a function on. There was only one server for the restaurant, it was ridiculous! Our reservation was for 6pm and we didn't get our food until about 10 past 7. We had to be at Lamproom for 7.30. We literally had to rush eating our food. At one point we thought we would have to cancel the food order because it was taking so long. I don't understand why there wasn't more people on especially with it being a Saturday evening. Just really poor planning! The only good point was that the food was nice but then didn't really get to enjoy it due to rushing it. I hope the poor server who was on her own gets some praise though. I cant remember her name, but she handled herself really well considering she had a whole restaurant to work.

Just had the Mother's Day Afternoon Tea at The Pavilion and unfortunately the food was very disappointing. Both the size and quality of the tea were poor and definitely not worth £14.95 a man. We shall not be returning.

Can't fault this place at all, we had a small party of 20 ppl here today for my step sons 18th birthday and the food was absolutely divine, we will deffo be back for more. They catered for us all in their outside heated room which was made private for us, staff were really friendly and the manager came to introduce himself aswell which was nice, 5 stars all round, we really enjoyed our night, thank you for having us xx

We came here for a quick bite before seeing a show at The Lamproom Theatre. The location was convenient, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. That's where the positives end. The tapas we ordered took ages to come, and when they did, they were cold and tasteless. It seemed like they had been sitting around for a long time. The portions were big, but that didn't matter, because we couldn't eat them. It was a disappointing and wasteful experience. The food was low quality and poorly prepared.

I don't normally leave reviews but I was very disappointed with my order the base of the pizza was burnt and there was very minimal toppings on pizza and even tho it was on time it was stone cold

Went for bottomless brunch. £35 per person with blue light discount. Had two margarita pizzas each and five cocktails in 90 mins. Amazing food great drinks brilliant service. Can’t fault it. Would recommend. Value for money and wuality food and drink. Definitely go back. Five stars from me. Thank you pavilion.

Reason for 2 star is for the staff sorting issues and being kind and polite and the apologetic free drink. 15 of us for the festive menu . They were understaffed took 2 hours to serve a 2 course meal following another half hour for people who wanted a pudding. The food was shocking , bland , cheap and cold . Total waste of 25.00. went to McDonald's when left . Avoid.

Prebooked Sunday lunch a week in advance for 7 people on a birthday get together. We were told on arrival they only had Gammon left. So basically, the "walk ins" had a choice of our meats! That's just for starters. 3 chopped garlic mushrooms on a small slice of white soggy bread - the menu said ciabatta. Pate served with one half of a toasted bagel cut into small wedges - menu said served on ciabatta bread. The gammon was like eating a bowl of salt. Ordered chorizo and jalapeño pizza but received a plain pepperoni. Roast potatoes were obviously boiled potatoes in skins then quick roasted for 10 minutes or so. Yorkshire puddings were small and like cake texture. Gravy was as black as coal. Basically, nothing left by the time we got there because they had served 100 sittings when they usually do 30. Not the customers problem! A booking is a booking. Absolutely shocking excuse when they've had our booking for over a week. The kitchen obviously had ran out of food so we had to make do with whatever they could muster together. Overpriced for the quality of food we ate. We received a discount but that doesn't cut bad planning, bad service and bad food. Waitress was lovely but we won't be going back.

I ordered the Smashed Pavilion Burger and found the bacon and the seasoning on the chicken very salty. There was also very little sauce on the burger so the whole thing was dry. My meal was also luke warm at best. For the price of £16.95 (ex delivery), I am disappointed.

I Ordered the Margherita, didn’t expect the herb garnish on top but was a nice addition to the pizza. Definitely will be back

Staying in the Premier in a few yards away so popped in on my way back from the gym on the off chance to see if they did takeaways. Staff were really helpful and I went for the katsu chicken. Picked it up 15 mins later and it was delicious! Generous portion with LOTS of chicken whereas most places just give 3 little pieces. Will deffo be there again before I leave at the end of the week. Rated the atmosphere a 5 even though I didn't stay as its the kinda place I like to eat.

Excellent food and excellent service

Food was lovely, however we had booked a table for 7 people on saturday, we had the reservation email but was told there was not reservation. We then was told there was a limited menu as they didnt know about the reservation. We ordered our mains which were nice but we ordered 3 pots of garlic dip for £5. We got 1 dip share and still got charged the £5. They also wanted to close too so they didn't offer us deserts. Not a great experience but the food was nice

Instead of having to be in Sheffield, I had the opportunity to take my wife for a surprise lunch at one of our locals, Nothing fancy - Jacket Potato with Katsu Curry and a Hot Roast Beef Sandwich but both very good plus wine and enjoyable chat with the friendly staff - making up for horrific local traffic problems earlier in the day.

Only us and one other table in. We ordered some dishes from the tapas menu and a side of fries. £3.95 for a very small portion of fries served in a tiny plant pot although they were hot and freshly cooked. Other dishes weren’t up to much. Chicken bao buns were cold, chicken had no seasoning or slaw at all and ‘asian slaw’ was a very measly serving of pickled cabbage. Chorizo was fine, hard to get wrong. Creamy mushrooms were nice but ciabatta was barely toasted. Greek meatballs were gristly and the sauce was bland. Staff were pleasant and service was good but would definitely not be in a rush to return for food.

Really odd place, it's like you're looking at a block of flats! Also had a zombie cocktail which was alright, but the person behind the bar didn't put any effort into shaking the cocktail mixer and became my laugh for the evening mocking her skills 😆

Divorce party of 14. We did the afternoon tea with cocktail offer. Lovely plate full of sandwiches and sweet treats. Unlimited 90 minutes of cocktails and prosecco. Was not the easiest group to run around after, due to how many there was. We all had a fabulous time! We did notice one particular lady running rounda serving us. At one time she looked hot and work loaded heavy (it was that very hot sweaty heatwave September Saturday). She definitely put our group enjoyment first. Got a breef moment to thank her . Lovely lady who told us she had just taken over the running of the pavilion, we wish her all the well-deserved luck and success. And would 1000% recommended

Excellent service-manager had excellent customer experience. I had the tapas which was very good. Cooked well and excellent presentation. Certainly a place I would go back to -looks like it could be lively in the evening!! Definitely worth a look at if you are in Barnsley-thoroughly recommend!!

In fact there have been two lunch-time visits inside a month - a whole family one (sitting outside with family pooch) and just a twosome today (both taking advantage of the Lunchtime menu). First visit involved Chicken Caesar, Tuna Melt, Katsu Chicken Curry with Jacket Potato and Club Sandwich. The last one came with the wrong bread but all were enjoyable plus the staff were helpful and friendly. Today's lunch should have been Fish Finger Sandwich and Hot Beef Sandwich but alas the latter had sold out - so it became two Fish Finger Sandwiches (in ciabatta) - washed down with Chardonnay. Very pleasant!. My other half would have liked more tartare sauce on the fish goujons but mine was fine and the skin on fries must have been good - because some of mine were pinched.

Went here with my daughter to book and pay deposit for a babyshower. Decided to have lunch first ordered 2 jacket potatoes with toppings, when came one was given to a different table but this was sorted promptly. I took one bite and realised mine was cold ask my daughter about hers and she said hers was cold too we told staff they said we will get fresh ones done. About 15 mins later we both received another which were the same ones just reheated and reshaped. And yet again first bite cold again the manager came to our table and said he'd seen them come out of the oven himself, I told him to touch the potatoe as I wasn't eating it anyway and yes it was cold he couldn't understand why. Faulty microwave in my opinion. We didn't pay for our drinks as consolation but haven't booked the baby shower either. Only ten people in the restaurant at the time and we weren't the only ones sending cold food back.

Went with my son tonight for a bit of mummy and me time he's 12. :) Manager lovely on arrival and showed us to a booth. All staff very attentive made us feel welcome and it really had a lovely atmosphere. We had 2 cocktails made to mocktails which my son loved. The presentation of them was brilliant. Ordered katsu chicken for my boy and he cleared plate and loved it. I had pulled pork burger. The coleslaw was the nicest I've ever eaten it was 10/10 for that and I could have eaten another bowl. Genuinely loved this so thanks to the chef it's often bland and tasteless in restaurants as a bit of a after thought but the taste was great excellent touch. Really nice buzz to the venue and I loved the decor it's very modern and the lights my son thought very cool too. We will absolutely be returning.

It was the main live music week-end in Barnsley - with activities which had spread as far as the Gateway Plaza - so when my wife and I entered to use the table which we had booked for dinner, we found a band setting up. Our helpful waitress agreed to switch us to the covered section of the outside space - so we could carry on a normal level conversation. Our waitress then had to profusely apologise that my choice of steak main course was not available - having sold out, as they had been so busy that day. My wife's original choice of Lamb Kofte stood and my amended choice was the Garlic Chicken Parmesan. Both were very good - as was the Shiraz that we chose to accompany them - so we left as satisfied customers.

Came for an evening for a party of 8, we visit here often as the service and food is always excellent. Staff are always friendly and prompt in noticing when our glasses are running low. I had the katsu curry with rice, the portions are a good size and cooked really nicely. Look forward to returning. Have to say we usually dine around 5 but this time we came a little later and so it was a lot busier with a large group of very noisy ladies so if you come for a quiet meal id come earlier.

Warm wine and average food! Waiting almost an hour between ordering and getting our food. Too many places to choose from to eat so won’t be visiting again.

Have been to this place three times - the first time ‘they weren’t taking walk-ins’ and the second time they weren’t serving food (it was 8pm) because ‘it’s dead’. When I did successfully get food it was expensive, oily and the service was so painfully slow (we sat down at 8)- we couldn’t order a desert because the kitchen had closed!! You might be wondering why I gave them 3 chances? It’s because The Glass House opposite is even worse. Do yourself a favour and take a 5 minute walk to Romano’s Bistro!!!

Came here with 2 friends, we eat out often and thought we’d try coming over to Barnsley after reading some good reviews on Opentable. Travelled from Leeds. We arrived & were stunned to see how dead the restaurant was- there was us an only two other tables! One of which left shortly after we arrived. Having said that, you’d expect the food to be cooked fast & service (2 staff members) to be spot on. However, it was far from. Food: Lasagne was oily, mac n cheese side cold, fries cold, and my friend found several hairs in her chicken burger. Chicken was tasteless & dry. my friends beef burger & chips were nice. Waited around 45 mins for our food in an empty restaurant, what a joke! Service: 2 staff members, spent 90% of the time we were there sat in the corner, laughing, joking and on their phones ignoring us! Sent them an email, their excuse was head chef was off an chef was a trainee, offered me a discount and then blocked my email! Appealing!! AVOID!!

Amazing food. I ordered the smothered brisket burger and it was honestly the best burger I've ever eaten. Just so much taste I can't describe it. My gf got the katsu curry chicken which was equally as delicious. Will 100% be returning there for a meal.

We loved the lunch menu everything is a fiver and all cooked fresh. The fish finger sandwich is fab thick goujons of white fish

Went here last night before going to the theatre. Food took 50 mins to arrive. We had to ask staff twice where it was. No apologies given or explanation. It wasn't even busy. Will not be going back.

Visited on Thursday night with my wife, the Pizza's we had were superb as good as I have had even in Italy. Service was great as well. Well done to Ryan and his team!

Fantastic food, great service, would recommend to everyone

Not worth it anymore. Perhaps if you are going only for a drink it can be ok. But food wise overexpensive. For example Aubergine steak for 12 quids is basically portion of fries and two small slices of aubergine. Sorry but this should be a side dish and cost 6 pounds. Not to mention quality is just an average pub food with flowing in too much fat. Was much better 2 years ago.

I have visited here numerous times and always have had a lovely experience with excellent food and cocktails. For my birthday over summer, I booked the outside covered area for a private birthday do. It was absolutely lovely. The staff were all extremely welcoming and friendly and all my communications and questions were dealt with quickly and effectively by Ryan, the general manger. All the guests commented how nice their food was and we were all impressed by the drinks. Thank you!

Absolutely wonderful staff - friendly, professional and great service. I had the Greek meatballs - really tasty. Good selection of drinks (they have Warsteiner on draught - don’t normally see this) and a nice place to sit outside. When I’m back in Barnsley for work I would eat here again.

Have been here before and had the standard burgers which are delish but, don't stray to the tapas..... an assortment of dishes which cost approx £60 was a mixture of bland, chewy and greasy. The patatas bravas was basically a jacket potato but into four....

Never visited before but friends had recommended the food. Came with a group of ladies the restaurant was quiet so was able to have a nice chat and a catch up. Great service nothing was too much bother for the waitresses. I had the soup...

3 of us have been for fathers day and really enjoyed the food, we had some small plates to share to start with and then 3 roasts, not one complaint from anyone.

Oh my god, what a place, 9 of us came here to eat yesterday evening. We all had starters and mains, clean plates all around! I had popcorn chicken mmmm Then The Pavilion burger! It was mahoosive! Great big tasty beef burger, suckh a moist piece of chicken, bacon, sauce, 2 HUGE onion rings a gerkin and the bun was lovely too. Chips and coleslaw. £14 I think? Excellent Leonie looked after us all, very attentive, took time to chat to us too! Boss man lovely! All in all, nice place, atmosphere great, all guests seemed to be enjoying themselves throughout! A lovely afternoon having coffee and cake with friends! Staff are always friendly and helpful, they make you feel very welcome. There were limited cake choices but it was nice when it came. The Pavilion has a great cocktail menu with staff providing guidance as needed.

Food was nice, however my husband had a steak salad and the steak was sliced and was a tad on the stingy side. One thing which was disappointing was the fact that we came out of the restaurant smelling of old chip fat ... change your fat fryers more regularly....not very nice smelling like you've just done a shift in a fast food restaurant!

Called for Sunday lunch, it was getting dark and the atmosphere was lovely with the candles, Christmas lights and music. The service was excellent, very polite friendly staff. The food was good, tasty, well cooked and good selection, the only criticism I have is the vegetables weren't hot but I'm sure they would have sorted had I mentioned it and was OK with the gravy. Will go again and would recommend.

Had afternoon tea for a baby shower the cakes and sandwiches were amazing. A proper size sandwich on a roll rather than a slice of bread. Scones cakes tea coffee. Clean toilets pleasant staff and very comfortable clean surroundings xXx

Called in for afternoon drinks on Sunday, first visit, the place was clean and tidy, we enjoyed the atmosphere. The latte coffee was great so was the pint of lager, without a doubt though the reception we got when entering was marvelous, the bar manager Paula could not do enough for us, we were treated like old friends, will deffo be going back and try some food !

Pavilion is a great bar restaurant perfect place to meet up with friends. The service was sublime staff are really friendly. Paula the manager is the best bar manager I have ever met built up a good rapport with us excellent customer service. Food was so fresh and tasty I highly recommend Pavilion best bar in Barnsley town centre.

Superb food and great service. Meagan and Maddie couldn’t have done more for us and the family. The adults had a lovely stress free meal and the children had a fabulous time! Couldn’t recommend more highly. Thank you ladies xxx

Call on the off chance on Friday evening, we were found a table and served quickly as requested. Food and drinks were good. Wine list could to with expanding/improving. Hostess was great and helped organise a taxi for us.
