We've been coming to The Whip Inn for a Christmas reunion for over 20 years. There's a group of 20-30 of us who worked for an American computer company called Tandem. We'll arrive at 12, some stay until 7 or 8, and are provided with a hot and cold buffet. The food this year was fresh, very tasty, and did a great job of soaking all the excellent beer up. Thanks to all for a great time! Cheers!

We went to The Whip for dinner and had one of the best burgers I've ever had - absolutely delicious. There was also a wide range of beers available on tap and the service from the friendly staff was top notch. The beer garden is also excellent with plenty of seating and not forgetting the large windmill just over the fence. We were also there to watch the live band (Blast!) who were also brilliant. We'll be back soon.

Its not a fancy gastro pub but is popular with locals, cyclists, walkers etc Staff were friendly and service was good. Food menu was limited as some items unavailable but we enjoyed our meal and thought food and drink were reasonable value. Portions were generous. Parking could be difficult at busy times. Beer garden at back has view towards windmill!

I booked a table in advance for 4 adults at 5pm on a Saturday, and our experience was absolutely terrible. My main feedback for this establishment is that you need better management and organisation. There were only two members of staff working on one of the hottest Saturdays of the year, they were clearly rushed off their feet and waiting for a drink was a painfully slow process. The chef was evidently swamped and ran out of a lot of food- including chips. The urinals were flooded when we arrived, and for the remaining two hours. Merely labelling this as “caution wet floor” and continuing to keep them open was a massive hygiene issue. There were honestly too many issues to list them all in one review, but to name a few; we waited 20 minutes to order anything; we waited 1 hour 50 minutes for our main course to arrive; they ran out of chicken, chips and various other things. They only told us this after we’d ordered and waited 40 minutes. The gluten free options were extremely limited and a lot of food looked deep fat fried.I think it is important to say that the staff were very apologetic and clearly embarrassed. It seemed as if it was not their fault, but a manager who had left them all in an impossible situation. Also as we were finally leaving, another booking arrived and were sent away as there was no food left and the staff were not expecting them. I would absolutely not recommend eating at this pub, it truly was an awful experience with an outrageous cost.

I live locally and have had drinks in this pub fairly regularly before the first lockdown. It has recently appointed a new chef and I was keen to support, so booked a table to take my family to dinner to celebrate my daughter's graduation. The table was booked well in advance and at an early time (7pm). When we arrived for dinner, we were greeted with 'you're not expecting to eat are you?' and were told that they had run out of food. When asked why we hadn't been called (which would have given me the opportunity to book somewhere else) we were told 'I've been run off my feet and really busy'. Not even an apology, let alone a complimentary drink or offer of alternative. One very very disappointed family as it was booked for a celebration. We won't be back.

We stopped here for lunch after a walk in the fields near the windmill. It was a late lunch and unfortunately our choice wasn't available. Of our two meals I would give 5 stars for one and 3 stars for the other, hence to 4 star rating as the average. We enjoyed the view to the nearby windmill, which was closed to visitors.

I looked on Trip Advisor after finishing up at a local attraction and The Whips reviews made my decision. We were greeted warmly by a lovely lady who served our drinks and set us up a tab. She told us which roasts were available and said the pork has the best crackling ever. We were lucky enough to be able to sit in the lovely garden which has a magnificent view of the Smock fronted windmill at Lacey Green. Roasted loin of pork ordered x2 we enjoyed the early September sunshine. Our meals arrived with a generous portion of meat, roasties and a good sized yorkshire pudding a stuffing ball and gravy, sides of delicious cauliflower cheese, parsnip, carrot and broccoli plus extra gravy and THEEE best crackling were duly devoured. This was a seriously good Sunday Lunch, we didn’t even look at the desert menu and 6 hours later i am still pleasantly replete. Definitely a return destination.

Andrea, the new manager, is trying hard to turn things around but it appears that the owners put all their efforts into their other places. Its a shame because the bar staff are friendly & welcoming and the food is good too. There is a beer garden that overlooks the Windmill which on nice day its really pleasant. However, the inside is very tired. The Whip Inn would benefit from lots of support to kick-start what is potentially a lovely pub.

Have been visiting this pub for several years, two/three times annually. Previously largenumbers of cars strteched along the Pink Road and bar was full of after work drinkers. No more. On my last weekday visit there were two at the bar, the previous very reasonable menu has been changed, and prices elevated accordingly. Garlic bread was severely burnt and the lasagna considerably overcooked. However the Patron deducted the cost and this was appreciated. One girl to serve drinks, take orders, serve food and clear away. I fear for the future of this pub if improvements are not made.

Used to really rate this pub for it's ales, food , garden and views. However after yesterday's food offerings not so sure I'll be going back. Having booked a table for 1pm and being seated then, it took over 10 minutes for our order to be taken and a further 50 minutes for our food to be served. 4 of our party of 5 had roasts - 3 beef and 1 nut roast. When the food finally arrived it was soon apparent that the Yorkshire puddings were cold, as well as being either burnt or in some cases cremated. We pointed this out and, to be fair, they were soon replaced with hot ones - but still either burnt or cremated. We decided to plod on although the meat was lukewarm ( and parts were far too pink), as were the roast potatoes which had clearly been cooked long ago and left to stand as the outsides were tough and rubbery, as were the parsnips ( I think they were parsnips) which were also far too overdone. The only hot item was the broccoli which was I guess was supposed to be al dente but was in fact hard. There was no apology for the delay in service which I gathered later, from hearing comments from others, was due to being one down in the kitchen and a waitress short too. On completion of the meal my wife expressed our dissatisfaction with the roasts and received just a "sorry about that" from the waitress. The only member of our group who enjoyed his meal was my son who opted for fish and chips, and this was good having been freshly cooked. So, the moral of the story is beware of your choice of meal at this venue - maybe ask on arrival what the day's staffing situation is !

Friendly staff welcomed us to the pub and showed us to a table where we were served with our drinks and given a menu, there are often specials on the board. Good range of meals and a willingness to adjust for individual needs for instance small portions for the elderly or children. Reasonably comfortable dining area although it is needing a little bit of attention to give it a bit of sparkle. If you like your beer and want a hearty lunch it is certainly worth a visit.

Scrummy Sunday lunch with roast beef, enormous Yorkshire pudding and tasty vegetables including creamy leeks with bacon. We sat out in the garden which was a special treat apart from the flies which are inevitable in the country when you are next to a field of cows. Service was friendly and quick, and it was surprisingly quiet: maybe because it was the school holidays. After lunch we walked up to the fascinating Lacey Green windmill which is just behind the pub. We used to travel 24miles to this pub. Really good pub grub and lovely garden and views. Well the views are still there but little else. We started with calamari. This used to be nice pieces of squid with a light batter covering. What we got was the cheapest frozen calamari rings. They were so bad and cheap that they tasted more like oily onion rings. For main my partner had Greek chargrilled pork chops. You can’t fault the quantity with 2 chops but they looked aneamic and definitely had never seen a grill, maybe boiled. She found them inedible so wrapped them up for our visiting fox later. I had the ribs. Obviously heated up in a bag with the sauce poured down the middle. Luckily there are so many more pubs that serve at least half decent food. Surely the ‘chef’ must be embarrassed to cook like this or is it the managers trying to make a bigger profit. Well if people don’t eat there then your profits will stop. Why not serve decent food so that people, like us, continue going there. We will put a big line through this one.

We both had the jumbo fish with chips and peas, really poor, both pieces of fish completely tasteless and the chips were, some hard, some soft, a real disappointment(perhaps smaller chips would make consistency of cooking easier!). Long time landlord, Nick, recently retired and the new couple who took over have made a pretty good job of keeping most of the things that were great about this pub in keeping. The food is still very good and good value too, although the breadth of the menu has been reduced (which is not necessarily a bad thing). The burger is still excellent, although the salad is not as extensive and it is served on a poncey board (what on earth is wrong with good old fashioned and hygienic plates?).The beer is still excellent quality although the choice is less extensive since there are always two beers from Greene King on the bar. The Rebellion IPA is priced at £2.90 which is very good value for this area.It has however, lost the peace and quiet that the pub once enjoyed as there is now a television and piped music in the bar, which is a shame.Still these are minor gripes aside as it is still the best pub in the area and worth the 2.5 mile walk from Risborough!

However we need not have been concerned, everything was as good or better than before. Because of problems with a tooth extraction and an errant boiler repairer we need to order off menu and get served before the rest of the party. The Whip team were not at all phased by this and a soft lunch was provided for my wife, after which we arrived home in time to meet the boiler man. Thanks guys!

Having heard on the grapevine that this well known establishment was under new management, naturally I had my concerns. To follow such a reputation from the previous landlord/lady is by no means an easy task! I have been a customer here for a couple of years, and have frequented 1,2,3 or all 4 pubs along this ridgeway (Thanks to the 300 bus!).I had booked for a table of 4 for lunch with my family. When we arrived, we were greeted by a smiling young couple. The whole place smelt fresh and clean, a fire was beautifully warming the restaurant and there were a few propping up the bar! A wonderful selection of ales (wish I could have tried all 6), and understandably, a limited menu. I chose the Chilli con Carne and my partner had the lasagne. Whilst waiting for our lunch, my partner popped off to visit the little boys room and I did my best to entertain my in laws. During conversation, my in laws commented on how having low background music made a atmosphere, which is something I hadn't noticed before, most likely because there wasn't any previously! Before long, (and thankfully) my partner returned with cheeky grin on his face,I later found out it was because he'd never seen those toilets so clean! (Oh the little things....)Our food arrived shortly, piping hot, plentiful and appetising. I made a point of telling a member of staff that I enjoyed my Chilli and is tasted fresh and homemade. I hadnt realised that the lady I spoke to was actually one of the new managers and also the same person who made it! She seemed bewildered and yet grateful for the few words we exchanged. This place does seem different, but from us, the Tea Family, we would like to wish Kris and Marie, the new managers of The Whip the very best of luck and success for the future! You'll see us soon guys! Give them a chance. Sue.

We were spoilt for choice of both ale, wine, and food. We visit twice a year when visiting a nearby friend, and enjoy the "local pub" atmosphere. The Whip is a rare pub, because it also produces good, well-presented food. I often go for the Peasant Salad as a gluten-free option and was not disappointed this time around. My colleagues all tucked in to their meals, and it was clean plates all round. It was lovely to hear the locals in the Bar playing dominoes and cards. Wish we had a place like this near our home. Lacey Green is indeed blessed!

A great busy and lively pub for real ales not to be missed. The meals we had were great and tasty. The only let down was the table and plate presentation, along with the fact we had to go up to the bar to order food and collect drinks, that looses a couple of stars.

Stopped in on the way past for a drink with a friend.Despite it being busy we were served almost instantly and had a choice of where to sit. The staff were friendly and engaging. The food on offer sounded great, and I've been recommended to go back. Apparently it's well worth it.

Lovely beer garden full of flowers over looking a windmill. We shared whitebait which was delicious with plenty of bread and butter, piping hot. My husband had the Whip burger and I had the lamb burger from the special menu. Both were delicious with a pile of chips and a decent side salad as opposed to the token leaf you get some places. The lamb burger was clearly made in house and full of pine buts and sultanas, different and very tasty. Soft drinks are reasonably priced too- as a lime and soda drinker it is something that matters! The pub has 2 Jack Russell's but they don't bother you to the point of annoying like another pub in the area so really aren't a problem ( and are quite sweet!). Would definitely come back for a 'proper' meal as opposed to lunch burgers.

If you're looking for a pub which serves great 'pub food' then the Whip's a good start. With a lovely garden and great service is a lovely place for Sunday roast or an evening meal. :)

After visiting friends, they took us to The Whip for Sunday Lunch. Don't know about previous reviewer, but I also had the roast beef and it was delicious. Veg was cooked to perfection - and portion size very generous. I enjoyed the whole meal and would certainly recommend it. We did book in advance, don't know if you could call in on spec.

Having eaten many sunday roasts at The Whip Inn and enjoyed every vist, we felt disappointed by our meal today. The beef was over cooked and chewy, luke warm and generally tasteless. Also when coming to pay the bill another tables drinks had been added ,this is the second time this has happened.

Although the real ales have always been an attraction our most recent visit for lunch has left us looking for some new venues. I was very disappointed with my 'jumbo cod and chips'. The cod size appeared average and the chips tasted like the frozen chips I can buy at the supermarket. My partner's smoked haddock and cheesy mash looked a better bet.

The Jam Roly and custard should come with a caution.... in that you're not going to move much afterwards! Amazing pud and great service as usual.

Always advisable to book as this pub/restaurant is very popular.Good pub grub with no fancy frills. If you like ales and cider, you will love this pub. They regularly change the ales. They also have regular beer festivals if this takes your fancy.

A very nice old inn with a good choice of real ales and red wine. My husband and I went with two friends for lunch and all our meals were excellent. The portions were very generous and you certainly won't be hungry when you leave. Good friendly service too.

Great food, great beer and great ambiance in this friendly pub situated next to Lacey Green windmill.Very good quality pub grub standards are served at exceptionally good prices (Whip Burger with all the trimmings, weighing in at £8.75)A constantly changing selection of well kept beers, many from local breweries completes the picture.

Visited with a pre-booked group on a Monday lunchtime. Surprised how busy it was. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Good portions of un-frilly pub food - nothing fancy, but all of a good standard. Interesting, well kept draft beers. Friendly service.

My friend and I met here on Monday 21st Dec for our pre Christmas pressy swap & catch up chat etc. We have been here before for lunch and as always the standard of the food was very good, normal pub grub &friendly staff. Pub dining area was empty when we arrived at 12 ish, then swiftly filled up. Food took a little while to arrive but as we were chatting that was fine. Some other ex colleagues decided in using the same place for their own similar meet up and sat along side us on an extended table set up. Tables are fairly close together if you want a private chat and can get rather noisy if a group are in. All in all a pleasant pub diner and I will return..

We came up for Christmas Dinner with friends & family for the 4th year in a row. As always the food was amazing. Our table had Beef which just melted in the mouth, Duck which was so tasty & Turkey which was just like we have a home. Great prices for a 2 or 3 course meal. Plus the selection of real ales & ciders always go down well. A warm, homely & friendly pub which I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a well cooked meal and a nice pint.

Lovely food highly recommended, staff friendly and professional. Met up with friends who were staying here so decided to have something to eat before we went into town. Even my husband whose normally very fussy, had no complaints. Would eat here again.

I get the impression that the owners are winding the Taps down. The bar staff are excellent, beer is good but often the selection can be poor. Food is no longer available, but you can take food in. The bar is looking tired, the loos are very retro, if 1970s public toilets are your thing. Its a real shame.
