The usual case of not having stock of what is offered online, and overpriced cafe. But both weekend visits have been marred by the attitude of Gen Z weekend staff (the regular staff uphold JL standards as ever ☺️). One couldn't even be bothered(able?) to divide £549 in half!

A strange security man followed myself, wife and 2 year old son around the shop this morning. It was a very odd and unusual feeling and I felt there was some racial discrimination behind this. Funnily enough I was there to purchase a £300 Reiss coat but the piercing eyes at the back of my head put me right off. Security man in the grey trousers a size too small; perhaps act more inconspicuous next time or just let the innocent brown people shop in peace. Off to Westfield we go instead.

Nice out of town location with plenty of parking. Large fashion offering with a slightly disappointing homewares selection. Not too many staff but the lady that we spoke to in the rug department was proper old school JLP and all the better for it Somehow or another JLP needs to get back to having well trained, professional staff that are well turned out and eager to present their stock in the best possible light or am just an old fart that hamlets after the good old days??

Bought school shoes for the first time for my 4 year old son on 02/09/24 to wear at school for 12 hours in total this week and they are so scuffed and rubbish quality. Shocked that wearing these shoes for a total of 9 hours has done this. I was meticulous in ensuring my son takes them off after his mornings in school. Horrified to discover these in this state on Friday 06/09/24. Went into the High Wycombe store on 08/09/24 to request an exchange or refund and was denied either of these, stating this is “general wear and tear”. The comments from dep manager, Shazeena that I ought to “educate my 4 year old son on how to look after shoes”, totally insulting and ignorant. Does she have any clue what children at 4 year old are like? Elizabeth, other deputy manager was polite however, still refused to assist with either a refund or exchange. Did not expect this customer service from JL, particularly as we went to JL specifically for quality. Will not be going in there again. Absolutely flabbergasted by their lack of customer service. Terrible quality of shoes of the Start Rite range for children.

I had a lovely shop assistant called Shabela Begum and Laura Creed. I took their names so that I could make sure they were mentioned in this review. Being a teacher, I was given a voucher to spend in JL. Again, being a teacher, a teachers wage is not one you usually use to spend frivolous amounts on make up and skin care! However, I came in with the voucher and both sales assistants were welcoming, kind and helpful. Shabela colour matched me and helped me pick out a lovely selection of items, and then assisted me to get 15% off if I became a JL app user. It was a wonderful shopping experience and I am very grateful to them both.

Extremely disappointing customer service. I shop here regularly, and the experience is always dependant on who you get to help you at the till point. Today I got a lady ( assist number W4871) who was so unhelpful and indifferent while she was putting my items through the till point. She demanded to see my receipt for the item I bought earlier. Demanded is the right word - there was no please, thank you, sorry for asking. None of that. However when the manager was called, suddenly all the pleases and thank yous came out. Interacting with her ruined my whole experience on that day.

Eight months later and we went back to the store, this time for pans. The first clue should have been the fact that at 3.00pm on a Saturday we could park close to the door. Gone are the days when a knowledgeable partner could offer advice. Instead, all the assistant could do was to scan a bar code and show me the product on her smart phone, something that I could have done at home. When we tried to buy something that was on display but not available on the shop floor, out came the smart phone again to check stock. When the assistant came back from the stock room with the wrong item, we left the store. Later we bought the same pans from Amazon for 30% less and delivered the next day. This used to be a wonderful place to shop but sadly - no more! Hence the half empty car park on a Saturday afternoon. A nice store but don't try to buy curtain material. They are obviously set up for ready made curtains and have no material in stock. When we went in to order they persuaded us to buy more length than we needed and when it arrived it was in two pieces. No way to discuss this without driving to High Wycombe, no wonder they have problems.

This store does not have effective safety measures in place. My son was leaving the bathrooms when the door closed on his hand and partially amputated his finger. He is 6 and the whole incident was incredibly traumatic for him. Albeit the staff on scene being very helpful and caring, I have attempted numerous times to escalate a complaint to head office health and safety and I am always told someone from head office will call and it never happens. You have vulnerable customers such as children and the elderly, there is an easy solution to implement for this health and safety risk but JL have refused to have the conversation with me. Be careful with your children in these stores. Edit to add: I followed the advice in the JL reply to follow up for support. They advise they will reply in 24 hours and over a week later I still have no response.

Most patronising staff in the cafe! Constantly getting nagged whilst trying to study due to not buying ‘regularly enough’ despite constantly spending money on food that is far too overpriced!?! Almost £4 for the thinnest cake slice, which is stale most of the time, its utterly ridiculous. Perhaps if the food was actually good i would go back for more but the quality definitely needs to be improved. Overall, just very rude staff and poor quality food do NOT recommend.

Wife and I went for some breakfast. It was not very busy. I had full English breakfast and pot of tea, wife has avocado on toast with salmon and poached egg and a pot of tea. This came to over £21 which I thought was not good value. The total cost of items on my plate was about £4.50 , and they charge £9.50 the quality was ok but , if I had bought 2 bacon rolls which also came with 2 pots of tea included it would only have been £10 rather than £21. So be aware of the special deals as the normal menu is a complete rip off. I know what I am talking about as I have been in catering for 43 years.

It seems to me that staff at the John Lewis group are not the best. I'm now stuck with a sub-standard bed as the guy in the mattress dept at HW John Lewis doesn't know his job, missold the thing then lied about what he told me when I went back to query it. Have tried getting a refund but apparently I should have also looked at the info online! Why? Do John Lewis not train their staff that they have that little faith in them? Shame on him - shame on them. I how he loses his job. That said I know somebody who works at their HO and he says they are the least knowledgeable org he's ever worked for and most people are just waiting on retirement - it's an easy life doing a mediocre job apparently.

Without earbuds for 3 weeks. Picked up and fault reoccurred within 24 hours. Now being told to go in a third time to arrange a refund or replacement. JL used to command loyalty. Service has deteriorated- other reviews have picked this up- I’d shop around and go with the best price, you don’t get peace of mind with JL any more. Never knowingly undersold is history. I complained and was told that he didn't know about the other counter as he was just covering for someone. This was on line customer services! I had a pair of pJ that felt like I slept in cardboard I was quite shocked as the company that made them seemed great loca. I continued them to explain they were quite shocked and said definitely a default! I washed them to see if that helped but no. They suggested I go back to JL and return as faulty! I said it was over 30 days as I had warn them I couldn’t return them. They pulled up faulty items on the JL website and said definitely return! I had originally bought 2 pairs one for my daughter but she didn’t want them. So they were returned in the time frame I was refunded no worries. Honestly you thought I was trying to get a free £1000 TV! They took ages to respond I explained the fault happy to return so they can look into it etc. Nop I have wrong dates, wrong information then a you have already returned it honestly!! I don’t have time for JL email tennis? It’s a £30 pair of PJs I thing it was! Just trying to help the company get them back to look into! Honestly wish I hadn’t bothered! Finally after I say I’m going to do a review I get £12 refund as a good will?? Good will for what exactly you all wasting my time, not looking at the details no listening to the problem or point or following you policy!! I’ve wasted far more of my time than £12! We had a nursery appointment with a gentleman called Alexander. I seldom ever leave a review on the same day of a visit but wanted to do everything to ensure that my opinion was out there whilst it was completely fresh in my mind. Never ever ever have we been made to feel this welcome during an appointment. Whilst most of us would have been completely shattered by the end of the week, we received the most upbeat and well engaged service for a late Friday evening appointment. Alexander was nothing short of incredibly professional, highly knowledgeable, helpful and friendly to us. It must take a great deal of might to talk for 1.5 hours straight and no doubt there are a number of appointments per day of this duration. To be able to maintain a high level of service right up into late on a Friday evening is commendable, it is refreshing to see that kindness is not a dying breed and I do hope John Lewis recognises its true gems! Please don't ever change Alexander. Great work. :)

Came here looking for a fridge/freezer after an unsuccessful trip to Currys in Slough. Currys didn't have most fridge/freezers that I liked in stock, so a quick Google search showed John Lewis did have them in stock and offered free delivery (unlike Currys who were looking for a min of £60 for delivery!!) Knew exactly what I was looking for when I went in to John Lewis. Went straight to fridge/freezer section and was greeted by a very friendly young man who offered to help. I told him what I wanted (there was an example fridge in the store to show him!) and he advised that they didn't have this one in stock. Rather than attempting to sell me a much more expensive one that I didn't want, the colleague did a search to see if they had it available in other colours. I was very pleased to find out the fridge was available in stainless steel for the same price and with much lower energy usage!! This was great news. Really grateful to the staff member for his efficient service this afternoon. We were in and out the store within the hour!! Very happy customers and looking forward to receiving the new fridge/freezer on Monday!

I would give it no stars if I could. I don’t usually complain but I’m completely fed up with John Lewis and their attitude to after care. On the experience we’ve had, I would definitely think long and hard before you purchase through this company. We chose to buy from John Lewis because we trusted that they sold quality goods and have reliable after service. Both have been proven wrong. After many technicians trying to repair our TV, they have washed their hands and told us they will do nothing about it. The story is long and frustrating but it has been going on since the beginning of October. Speaking to other people, they are also experiencing similar low quality, dismissive service. John Lewis is probably my favorite shop. I usually find something for myself & my home in most of the departments. Since moving from London to High Wycombe, John Lewis has become my least favorite place to shop. I am followed around the store all the time in both busy and quiet periods. I will find 2-3 members of staff loitering at the end of an aisle or area where I am browsing and they follow me to each area. Today was the final straw when I decided to end the day with a nice browse around the shop. This quickly turned into a sad and miserable browse as I noticed I was being followed yet again. I waited in line like other customers at various counters (Mulberry) to be served and was over-looked and then treated with bored, disdain as I made enquires. You've done me favor as I'll be saving money in 2024 by no-longer shopping at John Lewis. I'd rather go without than walkaway feeling miserable from the horrid store experience. I would like to know if the High Wycombe branch specifically train staff to treat fat, black women like common shoplifters, I do not believe my 'type" are the clientle this particular branch are intrested in. All these separate areas Do Not make it efficient, the assistants are terribly slow in dealing with everyone., I ordered the soup, but then refused it as it would have been cold by the time I eventually got to a table, I was still queuing for a sandwich, thats before I even thought about a hot drink. It was a busy time leading up to Black Friday & Christmas but have been here before on several occasions and the service is much the same., You have very pleasant staff working behind these counters but they are inexperienced and need direction., Nobody took any notice of peoples frustration at the poor service. This needs to be redesigned, all these different queues for items!! Definitely not "The Place" for Lunch or afternoon tea unless you are prepared to queue for 25 - 30 mins in each queue.

Afternoon tea here repeatedly grim over several years! Cakes over sugared and tasteless, often stale. The scones on this visit were like rock cakes (and this has happened before). We chose them because the cakes are so disappointing.

Nice department store, selling clothes, electronics, home furnishings and cosmetics, etc. This store also has a currency exchange service and a café. The store is spacious and the staff are friendly and helpful . There is a large parking area on premises, but the spaces are quite narrow.

Like shopping at the store and usually have a bit to eat in the cafe . Last Saturday (21st Oct) we went to the cafe before shopping and ordered two toasties . After 20 mins there was no sign of the food and asked an assistant to chase it up. After another 10 wait still no food and no contact from anyone. I then went to the counter and asked for a full refund which I got plus an apology but no explanation as to why we didn’t get our order. We’ll still shop there but won’t be going to the cafe again

Tried to buy an IPad twice today in JLP. Both times (11:15 and 11:35) no one available to help me. Found the tablets on display but no labels explaining what they were, price, options. I knew what I wanted just couldn’t find the boxed items themselves. Annoying experience and so have preferred to order from Curry’s.

Very disappointed today with serving. I asked for Korean chicken rice. Rice was scraped from dish as it was end bit and really grainy. She loaded my plate with the coleslaw to make it look good ! My friend had 2 portions of same and her portion much larger. When I mentioned it to lady serving she said that is how it is 2 scoops. Expensive for what I got and I ha e also just spend over 300 in clothing dept too. :(

Ok so after a hectic week I went to John Lewis for much needed retail therapy but instead I left disappointed and very upset. I visited the ladies underwear department only to be ignored by staff member in the changing room, not so much as a welcoming smile, more an annoyed look. I waited as she tended to 2 other customers. I ended up asking to if I could go in. After that I went to the till, and the same lady (Kate) looked at me blankly and I said ‘can I pay?’ She replied ‘can you go to the tills at the end of the store’. As I walk away I realised that I don’t want to trek through the store with a bra in my hand, so I turn back and see Kate serving another customer. Sheepishly she realises I am there and says ‘I’ll be with you soon’. Then tells me she was serving the other customer the whole time, not the case from where I was. Customer service is your title and the main bit of your job before bra fitting. All you had to do was be friendly and polite, tell me you were busy but no, you treated me like a no one. I honestly felt judged because I didn’t look like the rest of your customers. From a Loyal customer for many years who is gutted that you ruined my day.

We recently purchased a car seat and base from JLP for our newborn baby (costing almost £500). We reported a fault with it shortly after purchase (as the straps do not adjust to fit a baby as they grow as shown in-store and on the manufacturer's videos) but the service from JLP has been extremely poor. We have made clear that we live in a remote village and rely on a car to get around and so need a replacement car seat asap and therefore cannot wait for it to be sent to the manufacturer for repair and subsequently returned (especially as JLP could not give any indication whatsoever of how long that would take and when we would get the car seat back). My daughter's first vaccinations are tomorrow and as things currently stand we will be unable to attend due to JLP supplying a faulty baby car seat and failing to provide a replacement or to at least agree to refund us so that we can buy a replacement. JLP were happy to make thousands of pounds from selling baby products to us but clearly have no interest in the safety of our newborn baby or remedying the situation when things go wrong with those products. JLP are insistent that they have to follow the manufacturer's terms and contact them about a repair but it would be well within JLP's powers to issue a refund or supply a replacement in the meantime. THANKS ANDREW - SADLY THE NURSERY AFTERCARE TEAM ARE BEING UTTERLY USELESS. THEY EVEN QUERIED WHETHER WE NEED TO ADJUST THE STRAPS TO FIT OUR NEWBORN (WHEN THE HEALTH VISITOR HAS CONFIRMED WE DO)! THIS SHOWS A TOTAL LACK OF UNDERSTANDING OF THE PRODUCTS THEY ARE SELLING. CLEARLY TO WORK IN A CRASH, THE STRAPS NEED TO BE ADJUSTED TO FIT THE BABY!

My wife had very bad experience with the staff as they were not helpful at all even though she has some issues with mobility and asked for help they had not gave her any help at all. Let alone the poor communication skills from some of the staff, and not telling ua the policy that we can not return an item after we open it. I hope to investigate about that and make sure all your staff to be nice and friendly with your customers as john lewis is an amazing company

Went to get a cabin case & realised the sales had ended the day before. Spoke to a customer service member and as the reduction ticket was still in place she honoured the discount, so received a 20% discount of the case I had chosen.

Plenty of staff, but terribly organised. I went today and there wasn't many people in the queue. However we were told to go to the other till where we would be served 'quicker'. Yet we were kept waiting and people coming in after us were served before us. The coffee was weak and like dish water, we couldn't even taste it. I gave a negative review some years ago, but hoped it had improved. Sadly this wasn't the case, so won't be eating here again.

Just back from a visit to JL on behalf of my mother. A washing machine that has been trouble since we had it. With 3 fixes required JL eventually swapped it. Thanks to Ben who was brilliant and to JL. It may be cheaper on the internet sometimes but that's because you are not buying the service and customer care. Thank you to Ben, I wish you had seen the happiness from my parents in their 90's hearing this was sorted.

Oh my considering this is John Lewis the standards in this restaurant are awful. We were unable to order hot food until 12.00 noon. We decided to go for the baguettes which was a big mistake. It was not enjoyable as they were so hard it resembled eating a brick. Looking across the tables it was not just us struggling as others had taken one bite and given up. I could hear a staff member apologise to a customer that there were no hot chocolates but there would be tomorrow. I just think this could have been phrased better by saying we haven't received a delivery. It is not as if the customer would be returning tomorrow unless local. Overall experience was not good I wouldn't recommend.

It’s a nice store and the scones in the cafe are to die for… However, there wasn’t anyone in the shoe section to help us find a size to try on, and the member of staff we asked said they couldn’t leave the bag section, which is fair enough, but when someone came over to offer help they shouted at my mother from a distance which was a little bit unexpected. But we got help in the end and it’s definitely a nice environment! ☺️

It was my first experience at the restaurant. Joined the queue at 11:30, it was barely moving / not moving at all, only three staff members serving behind the counter. Waited around 15 mins to get to the front. Customers were getting impatient due to having to stand and wait. Or maybe the person at the front had ordered twenty hot drinks? Not sure, the point is the queue was barely moving. Finally I got the front, with only a couple before me who were literally paying. I was then approached by a lady monitoring the queue, who told me to move across to the opposite 'sandwich' counter, telling me I can place an order there as well. So I did. However when I moved, I realised that now again, I was literally at the end of another queue. Had I known this, I wouldn't have moved, obviously, but this was my first time in the restaurant and didn't know where the tills were in the 2nd counter. To add to my frustration, this queue was not moving at all. Needless to say, I saw the customers who were behind me in the original queue served, while I was still waiting. This made me quite frustrated and I ended up leaving the restaurant and the store. Now I know this is not the end of the world, and I appreciate working in hospitality isn't easy. but this was still very unprofessional. Why would you ask a customer, just about to be served, to move to the opposite counter and wait again?? If anyone reads this from John Lewis, please train your staff in proper queue management, or reorganise the restaurant.

Arrived at The Place to Eat to find a huge queue and very slow moving. Enquired with Manager, ‘Anna’ if the other counters could be opened, as they had a huge number of hot drinks machines standing idle. I was told that wasn’t possible, as despite it being very busy, “the machines had been cleaned, and the staff were busy preparing for tomorrow!!” Really disappointing, as I really like the John Lewis brand, and expect much better.

Good for parking and shopping especially with so few department stores being around now...its good to have it. Always disappointed in cafe, staff nice but food is never that great...scones dry, egg mayo roll tasteless but on a nice roll! My decaff coffee is always odd yellow colour, but hey chips were OK! A lot of money for not great quality, only writing because its my experience everything, when will I remember not to come here for coffee...though normal coffee might be fine.. 🤷♀️

My partner came to the shop around 11am on Friday 24/3. Was trying to seek help around the make up counters. Only to be blanked, ignored and was left feeling very judged due to her appearance. Despite her asking for help. She was left feeling extremely let down and depressed by Bobby Brown and Lancôme. Only Clinique were supportive and offered to help. I’d very much like to pass on my thanks to the lady on the Clinique counter.

Looking for fabric for curtains I spent 15 or 20 mins searching every single option on a roll in the store. 3 -5 colleagues chatted away the whole time - none offered to help. There were no other customers in the department. As I was leaving a colleague apparently from another department did help. The store looked great, but if its self service please drop the prices. And if it is serviced - please let the colleagues working instore know, right now they don't.

A confusing mess. Whoever decided to place the menswear immediately next to fabrics needs some retail design training. No subtle transition. Poor signage and no staff around to ask advice. It's very 'help yourself'. And the lighting at the till points at the rear of the store is appalling. It feels like that area is closed. Edit out some stock- it feels like a jumble sale

Great spot with lovely outdoor soace and oldy worldy interior but terrible pub. I think the idea of 'hospitality' has passed them by completely. The staff really couldn't be bothered. Flat drinks, 1970s style ploughman's and a truly awful salad with congealed dressing. Avoid until they've had some training or can be bothered to try to offer a welcome.

I get the impression that the owners are winding the Taps down. The bar staff are excellent, beer is good but often the selection can be poor. Food is no longer available, but you can take food in. The bar is looking tired, the loos are very retro, if 1970s public toilets are your thing. Its a real shame.
