Great spot with lovely outdoor soace and oldy worldy interior but terrible pub. I think the idea of 'hospitality' has passed them by completely. The staff really couldn't be bothered. Flat drinks, 1970s style ploughman's and a truly awful salad with congealed dressing. Avoid until they've had some training or can be bothered to try to offer a welcome.

Atmospheric old pub with low beams and friendly bar staff. But food was poor and basic. The homemade leek & stilton tart was a small portion and the pastry was rock hard and mostly inedible. Not worth the price, even though prices slightly lower than other pubs in the area. Overall ok as a stop if walking in the area but wouldn’t visit again.

The pub is set in a lovely location and nice to have seating outside front and back. The inside has kept it's older charm. But that's the good. The staff were not welcoming at all, in tracksuits and just seemed disinterested. The food is pretty basic - side salad which literally just dry iceberg lettuce and tomato (& a hair in it). Bathrooms need a total update. Not many ales/lagers on tap to chose from. I'd suggest update menu, widening drinks on offer, sort out toilets, improving quality of food and getting staff some uniforms and training. I really hope they up their game as it could be a lovely little pub.

After a long walk, we stumbled upon this gem of a pub—a rare find these days. We enjoyed a fantastic Ploughman's lunch, the beer was top-notch, and the staff were absolutely lovely. This is a proper pub, untouched by gentrification, and exudes a retro charm that’s sadly missing from the swathes of "gastro pubs" around. We will definitely be back very soon!

Let’s start with the positives. A classic picture postcard and beautiful pub interior with open fires. Old world charm galore. A very reasonably priced and good quality wine list. This is where the positives end. The man in charge was rude, like Basil Fawlty and made us feel like he was annoyed at having to serve us. Everything was so much trouble. When asked for a glass of Merlot, his response was “ You’re really testing me now”. The food was worse than school food. All frozen. All tasteless inedible. A nice place to have a drink after a walk. Don’t go near the food and try to interact as little as possible with the rude staff. Could and should be so much better.

Two staff including the man who I assume is the proprietor clearly resented answering questions from someone in our group with an allergy, and both laughed at those questions making the person feel very unwelcome. It's one thing having a poor menu to cover dietary requirements (although it's rare in 2023), it's another thing treating customers with contempt. This place is just how anyone would imagine the perfect English country pub to be. Yes, it can be a bit touristy at times, but there aren't too many pubs like this left. It has had more than its fair share of appearances in 'Midsomer Murders'. Set in an idyllic location in the Chilterns, facing fields at the end of the village, the pub is surprisingly large inside, with a variety of rooms and screened off areas leading from the bar. There are also plenty of tables outside for al fresco drinking and dining in fine weather. The picturesque exterior is matched by the characterful and unspoilt nature of the interior. The menu is reasonably priced and appealing comprising mainly of what could best be described as proper pub food; unpretentious and well prepared - and this is supplemented by a specials board. On the bar is a selections of about four local ales and national brands. The young man serving us was welcoming and friendly.

There are certain expectations of a Sunday lunch in idyllic countryside pub, unfortunately hardly any were met today. Firstly, we were unable to book at the time we wanted as the patron didn’t want an empty table (reserved) until 1:30 so 1:00 was agreed. We arrived, the table was ready we sat down, only to be informed that we would need to be quick as the table had been re- booked for 1:45! Other tables around us were reserved for 1:30 (our originally requested time) Meals ordered and arrived quickly 3 roast dinners and a Pie-of -the -day. Meats were good vegetables were unimpressive. Parsnips and potatoes were definitely not roasted and the pie arrived with microwave clingfilm still attached. Pastry was accordingly soggy, plate wasn’t hot! Dessert was chosen mostly ok but…… two desserts were ordered with custard. The waitress brought them to the table - bearing in mind we were the first sitting of a Sunday lunch, with an apology that there wasn’t much custard as they were running low. Both our desserts had barely a spoonful and there was no alternative (ice cream or cream) offered. Staff visited the table to bring food, clear food and bring desserts at no time were we asked if everything was ok nor were we asked when paying the bill (which wasn’t itemised). The Rhubarb Crumble topping was incredibly hard to eat - more like caramel brittle - it certainly didn’t meet the expectation of a crumble Guys, you need to learn some basic customer service. Your staff are your ambassadors, they need to smile and engage, customer experience should be high on your and their agenda in these difficult trading times. Even at the bar, another customer requested a wine, was offered a Chianti which she was then told she couldn’t have because the cork was stuck in the bottle. I was flabbergasted for her! Unfortunately, I would not recommend

Seemingly only one member of staff serving who appeared to be quite tired/down. I had the gammon steak with chips, onion rings and garnish and for the price of £14.99 I expected something of much better quality. It tasted like cheap frozen food and I found the chips to be really unpleasant. I had however wanted to have one of the specials which was sold out so maybe the specials are of a higher standard. If I was passing through again though, I would find somewhere else personally.

Well I know he's entitled to his own opinion but we found it very uncomfortable as he was so angry, then an elderly couple ordered a meal and moved to a different table , and he actually got so cross with them and shouted across the room "is there something you want to tell me" we felt sorry for them they were so embarrassed, he is so disrespectful we definitely will never go back while he's working there.

I get the impression that the owners are winding the Taps down. The bar staff are excellent, beer is good but often the selection can be poor. Food is no longer available, but you can take food in. The bar is looking tired, the loos are very retro, if 1970s public toilets are your thing. Its a real shame.
