The Wherry Hotel in Waveney

Stayed the nite, ( room 108) for abba tribute nite. Room clean and well appointed. Chose to have a pre show carvey. The server ,"Heydon " was absolutely fantastic, both in his friendliness and professionalism, But he showed kindness to an elderly person in a wheelchair, It's so nice to see a young person, taking such consideration. I hope the company realises, what a good example he shows of the company itself. First impressions count, I hope the company knowledge this. As I hope the company praise, all staff that are named in these reviews. The chosen meats, were delicious, along with the accompaniments . Well presented and hot. Thankyou to the kitchen crew.

Such an amazing environment, the staff are very professional but you can have a laugh and a joke with them, Robbie and Pete were excellent with their customer service. We had a carvery, and it was mind blowing, and I am very fickle when it comes to roast potatoes, and oh my days they were the best crispy roasties I've ever tasted. can't wait to come back again

Great service from Jamie she really looked after us . As we hadn't been before. Food was lovely we had the carvery and had a bottle of wine very well priced excellent value for money

My husband had the mixed grill. The gammon was extremely fatty, the lamb chop not brilliant either. The rest was OK. I had the lasagne. It was fine.

From the moment I arrived it was like home from home, everyone ignored me and the food was terrible. * * * * * * * * * * I'm only KIDDING!! All the staff were brilliant, friendly and extremely helpful. My wife and I stayed 2 nights and had evening meals both nights. All the meals were great and considering how busy the hotel was the food came out pretty quick. Lasagne was fabioso, the mixed grill nearly beat me, the curry was a narn and a half outta ten, the grilled chicken was probably my favourite. Breakfasts were superb full English, fruit, cereals and juices, tea and coffee on tap. Our room was warm (even in october) without the heating on (leave a window open over night or have a dry mouth in the morning) the room was absolutely fine, yes it's not a prem inn but this hotel has got character, I've never seen a bath soooo loooooong, complete with a shower. If I'm being picky I would move the toilet to another wall (big bathroom could be designed differently) tip for room 118 (maybe the same for others too) put the loo roll on the inside door handle instead of the loo roll handle. Trust me you'll thank me. 😄 We also had a singer on Friday evening (not in our room but in the bar) he was very good too, even his interpretation of Elvis's "Suspicious Minds" The location of the hotel fantastic just a 30 second walk to the waterfront where you can take a boat trip. We also took in a football match Lowestoft fc 10min drive. **Overall the hotel is fantastic value and can't recommend it enough** WE WILL BE RETURNING. 😀

Now been twice and will be going again. Went for the Breakfast Buffet £11.99 at time of writing. Good selection of food and it was tasty and well cooked nothing was burnt or over cooked. I found the price fair I know you can get cheaper but this was nice and it's a buffet so can get more :), as well as the quality was good. Only criticism I would have is that there was not much of a drink choice included (did pay extra to get another option).

A great night . Food was good. Paying for drinks and dessert separately was interesting. Overall a nice experience was enjoyed.

Came for some food for lunch. Bartender seemed very slow and my grandparents could move faster than her and service with a smile would be great. Took ten minutes to just serve one person with no apology... Food came on time but cheese tasted off or very cheap cheese in the food I ordered. Cutlery was dirty, table was dirty , floor was dirty. There was no check back on food either. Every two minutes someone was opening the emergency exit doors at the bar which made us cold and I'm sure other people were thinking the same.. Will not be coming again unfortunately.

Awful. Got a room with disabled access for my wife. Dropped stuff off quickly and went for dinner. Noticed odd smell and a plug in air freshener in the room. Came back after dinner, opened bathroom door and the smell of stagnant water was disgusting. Air freshener was not covering the smell. Granted, was moved to another room but, even so, there's no way that room should have been used. Second room did NOT have an air freshener telling me it was put in the first room to deliberately cover the smell. Carpets in second room dirty, nasty piece of sharp plastic on bathroom floor, bed damaged also. Personally, not worried about second room but the first room should NOT have been in use. Air freshener clearly put in the room to cover the smell. My wife has an open wound on her leg and is susceptible to infection - do you have any idea what diseases stagnant water carries? After speaking to the manager, they did NOTHING. Nothing at all. Will NEVER stay there again. Ever. How any establishment could sell a room in that state is beyond me. Disgusting.

Hotel nice and presentable , friendly and pleasant staff Room comfortable, but not the size expected for cost Bathroom layout not very good Regarding the toilet and heated towel rail positioning , when seated your legs actually are forced againt the towel rail so if its switched on theres a very good chance of burning your leg and also you cant reach the toilet paper as its too far behind you and lastly no toilet brush This is regarding room 207 so i cant comment any other room in hotel

We travel a lot and stay at hotels all over the U.K and we like to give an honest and fair review of each, based on all the various places we stay to give a background standard and to offer helpful info to other travellers. The Wherry is in a very good location right at the bottom of the Broads. I imagine in summer, sitting outside looking out over the water would be excellent, but the day we visited it was raining😗. There are several restaurant areas and a couple of bars. The bar staff were very helpful, prices reasonable and plenty of parking. Our food (chicken melt) was tasty and decent portions. £32:40 for the chicken melt and soup of the day x 2 Wine (Pinot Grigio) £18:45 per bottle (less than many places). Reception was friendly and efficient. The room (Kings Suite) room 210 is huge and very comfy. A little road noise at night and some very annoying lights from a nearby rail crossing made it not perfect unfortunately. Breakfast was OK but the kitchen was having issues and a buffet rather than being able to order from the breakfast menu. Disappointing, but there you go. The service was efficient but no smile. Overall a good place to stay if you are visiting Lowestoft or the Broads. £140 for the night with breakfast for two.

We have been regular family patrons of the Wherry restaurant for a number of years, but had a bad experience recently when my partner requested dessert allergen information. The barman took ten minutes to return with dangerous non-specific information and a rude attitude, which obviously had filtered through to the waitress who was abrupt when serving us. Rather than giving a bad review, in view of the years of satisfied service, I sent an email to the restaurant manager. In it, I praised his food, and pointed out our regular patronage, giving him the chance to respond, with an explanation of why his restaurant was not complying with the law regarding allergens, and maybe an apology. Eight days have now passed and no communication has been received. Either business is so good that they mistakenly believe that others will be along to take the place of 'awkward customers'.( Believe me, with 30 years of Sales/Marketing Management experience, that is a very dangerous path to tread.) Or perhaps the Wherry's new arrogant attitude is, 'If you don't like it you know what........'

Visited for a carvery, first time in over a year. Very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the beef, and more so the vast range of vegetables. All vegetables nicely cooked, particularly the roast potatoes, nice and crispy. Have to mention "josh" what a pocket rocket. Was working the main restaurant on his own, extremely polished in all aspects of his job. Very professional. Very meticulous in his cleaning, particularly his work station. Josh was polite and clearly very good at his job. So well done. Well done to the back of house team. Keep up the great team work. Thankyou for enjoyable meal.

Most tables in conservatory were full of dirty crockery told short staffed.another said they were one staff member down.no excuse.when tables were eventually cleared no cleaning spray was used just laid tables again with cutlery and napkins.not best practice.staff need more training in hygene

Worst food I have been presented with in many life. The fish was absolutely rock hard, less than 20 chips on a plate, cold congealed mushy peas and tartare sauce. An absolute embarrassment to put in front of a customer. First time in 53 years that I have been unable to eat what's in front of me and have asked for a refund. My Wife did the same as me and rejected her carvery for similar reasons. The only decent part was how the manageress dealt with the situation that was none of her doing. Avoid at all costs.

Super hot carvery with an excellent choice of meat and an impressive selection of vegetables with all the accompaniments The dessert menu was also impressive I travelled here on a bus tour after a visit to Oulton Broad with the Rendlesham over 60’s group and I was most impressed with the service the food and the selection of wine A good time was had by all Thank you for finishing off a super day out

Lovely setting over Oulton Broads, Shame about Management, sent an email to complain, just brushed under carpet with same reply but not a true 1, went to have dinner here before going on a boat trip, there was 6 of us , I couldn't eat much due to health, asked for something plain like a jacket potato and they charged me full price though wanted no filling on it, I queried this and he went to ask manager who just sent back a message basically saying its how it comes can't pay for potatoe without filling, I was shocked most places accommodate this, I had to eat something so paid grudgingly , I was then brought out a small potato with salad which didn't ask for , friends were shocked too , they received thier meals and hardly any chips with the expensive meals , couldn't enjoy meal as all shocked at price and size of potato and attitude, staff not that friendly either, place looked outdated too, shame we didn't have time to look for anywhere else to eat as we would all of left , got response from email, they are looking into this , had this twice now and both times, my request wasn't on menu lol, ummm yes it was but with a filling, you add the filling , will not return to somewhere that makes you feel unwelcome

Always had a great stay at this hotel never had any complaints the staff are friendly and helpful but not sure I'd stay again. The room we were given was terrible the noise was horrendous. We were warned about it by the staff but nothing prepared us for his noisy it would be yet get still charged the same as a quite room very confusing to say the least such a shame always had such a lovely stay.

Stayed for a couple of nights, had breakfast, lunch and dinner here. Enjoyed our stay, deluxe room with view of broads. Good value food, enjoyed the carvery and meals from the main menu. Friendly service, can be a bit of a wait at busy periods but to be expected. Food was hot and enjoyable. Views from the terrace and balcony rooms are stunning, we were lucky enough to be staying when they had live music on the terrace. Lovely atmosphere whilst watching the sun set with a cool drink on a summers evening. Breakfast menu now served in the conservatory unlike the buffet style we had previously enjoyed on our stays. Not sure if this is a new change or a weekday thing as we previously stayed weekends. Still an enjoyable breakfast with friendly service despite it being very busy.

Not the same place it use to b. Been here many times but as late has deteriorated. Not sure if new owners have taken over or not .

As residents of the hotel we decided to have dinner here one night with family. As always we have been happy with the carvery and it didnt disappoint. Lovely meats and a good choice of veg. Enjoyed it. A couple of us had meals from the menu and they were good also. They came quickly on hot plates. The menu is lacking vegetarian options. Not the hotels fault and the bar staff were obliging and did my husband egg and chips. Thank you. We will be back.

AVOID We booked for a family birthday treat (10) of us. Fish was watery no taste. 3x lasagne all arrived stone cold. Taken back to kitchen and told will be out in 15 in 15mins. Once arrived again in editable as cremated couldn't even get fork in it. Then to top in all cokes were watered down although manager did get that sorted. Hubby asked for whisky and ice but coke was added. He had had enough and decided time to leave. The 3 lasagne were taken off the bill but personally all should have been. We even had a birthday cake we took with us but never got to eat. The whole evening for my husband 66th birthday and officially a pensioner ruined. Whoever is doing the cooking or working the microwave has no idea. The waitresses were good not there fault but they didn't look surprised taking food back to the kitchen. Would have been nice to have had an explanation and a sincere apology as to why food came out the kitchen surely they new it wasn't edible. Thing the food standards need to be checked. How many more bad reviews will come in from diners last night 12 July. If by chance yours was good somehow then lucky you.

We visited here last night after mooring at oulton broad. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The staff were so friendly and efficient, the menu had lots of options to cater for everyone and so many desserts I couldn’t decide what to have. Once we had eaten we moved to the sofas where we sat for quite a while having drinks. I would definitely go back and recommend.

We Came here the Friday before restaurants/bars opened inside.We ordered our drinks via the app. The drinks came quickly, we also ordered food. The food was served quick and it was good. Just a shame it was a cold day. Even when sitting near a gas heater.

Stayed here again this weekend. Fantastic location. We booked the Executive Queen Suite - it has a huge view over Oulton Broad and is furnished sumptuously. The room was spotlessly clean. We were greeted warmly and efficiently at reception. The staff here are second to none. We enjoyed an evening meal. The carvery is not currently self service, but the plated version was very generous - more that we could eat. Again, the staff were fantastic - they were busy but came back to us quickly to take our order. The breakfast was of an excellent quality and delicious. Our breakfast waitress was exceptional. She was busy, but so friendly and very efficient. On checkout, Sarah was lovely. She is friendly and interested in our stay. We would recommend this place to anyone, a real gem!

We visited as 2 couples for a hot chocolate in the morning and decided that the menu looked good including the carvery option. We returned that evening having been told we didn't need to book and accordingly as a large restaurant we had a table. Service and advice was good and when the carvery plate arrived we couldn't believe how good it was. One of us had the cod and chips and that was equally good. The deserts were very good so the only regret was that the bar had to close at 10pm and we couldn t stay longer

Whilst staying just across the road for the weekend we decided to eat here. We had breakfast and an evening meal. Both were very good. Normal fry up in the morning evening meal I had hunters chicken and my husband had a mixed grill. Would recommend both.

due to bad weather stayed in hotel and had dinner here glad we did both meals very nice . good service and a vegan option .

This hotel gave a good impression as soon as we walked through the door. Good decor and friendly welcome. We were upgraded to a river view which was lovely. Room very clean. Breakfast next morning was hot and well cooked, plenty of choice. Staff attentive and friendly. Would definitely return and recommend. Thank you.

Had a couple of evening meals here over the weekend. Beautiful views from the restaurant and great outside area. All Covid measures in place. Pity a lot of the guests were not wearing them.Good choice of menu. Great carvery and dessert counter. Big meals and decent sized puddings. When we visit Lowestoft again we will certainly come back to The Wherry.

Excellent carvery meal. One queue to buy the tickets, separate queue to redeem tickets for carvery. Staff loaded up the carvery plates with all food, no self-service on the veg due to covid. Hot, fresh, plentiful, tasty carvery meal.Indoor seating, outdoor patio seating and seating in the car park area. Dog friendly outside.Covid. Staff behind screens but not wearing masks. One way system in operation that was fairly effective.The only downside was the ladies toilet. One toilet blocked and generally could be cleaner.

The Wherry is situated overlooking a small harbour so is quite pretty. A large restaurant area, we were able to get a table during the eat out to help out promotion. Extremely good value for money. I had steak which was cooked perfectly to order. The carvery was excellent value for money and the plates were well loaded up!!

Ate there 1st night of our stay, had the Carvery, part of the eat out scheme, so excellent value & the food was really good, generous servings and the beef lovely & tender. Busy pub right on the broad but service and Covid details were easy to follow.

We stopped for a drink at this hotel. Friendly staff, not much of a view, cars parked in the way of the marina, but a sun trap when the sun is out.
