It was incredibly quiet for a Friday evening and I did not feel welcome. I’m sure different times of the day are better and maybe the food is good but I would never return for a weekend evening as I’ve never felt so unwanted in a pub. Its definitely a locals only pub in the evening.

I have never left a review before but I felt on this occasion I had to. We attended the first Sea Food Sunday today with friends. The food was excellent and more than we could manage to eat. The shell fish included Oysters, King Scallops, Crab claws and much much more. Kelly and Adam's team couldn't have been more helpful. They create a friendly atmosphere in a pub setting and the service is great. If you like sea food this is the place for you. I highly recommend it. We will be back for the next one in August .

We visited here after a day out walking with friends. The landlady was very friendly and welcoming. Even though the pub was busy, she moved chairs around to accommodate us, and our three dogs. Excellent service, we chose burgers, and ribs as recommended, all delicious. The ribs in particular were enormous, and had to be shared. We will definitely pop by here again when we are next in the area. Thank you for a lovely meal.

My first time visiting The Wheatsheaf today and it couldn't have been better. Very friendly and accommodating staff and a lovely environment inside and outside the premises. The food is excellent. Although I only had a very delicious pizza, the others in my party thoroughly enjoyed their decadent looking desserts. Although it's a little far out for my current location in London, in comparison it's a stone's throw away from my hometown Aylesbury. I will be returning to The Wheatsheaf soon, hungry for more.

I'm a local but by no means a regular, I probably visit 5 or 6 times a year, but regardless the Wheatsheaf always makes you feel welcome. The staff are fantastic, the punters are friendly and the food is superb. During the summer the garden is perfect for when you've got friends/family visiting and on top of all that, the prices aren't bad either. Highly recommend. If I absolutely had to give one area of improvement, I'd say that sometimes the wait for food and service can be a little long if there is a lot of tables eating, but I'm really clutching at straws to think of a negative. Overall a really lovely place which I hope continues to operate for many years to come.

The venue, armospjere and staff were all top notch and the hospitality was just what you would expect from any good South Africans..However, i do have to mention a couple of things that were not quite right. The ribs were exceptional and the portion size extremely generous. As a result i decided to only eat half and take the other half, together with my chips which i had not yet tackled, home as a take away. I asked the waiter to please prepare my left over as a take away which he assured me he would do. A little while later i asked him where my take away ribs were and he rushed off to investigate, only to return and apologise that they had been thrown away as they didnt know i wanted a take away!! I was naturally very upset as i had really been looking forward to eating my chips and ribs the next day. I had to pay £18 for a rack of ribs and they had thrown half of them and all my chips in the bin. I said if that was the case i was only going to pay for the half i had eaten. Thìs was not acceptable to them and i was given two drink tokens as compensation! I had already had one drink and didnt want another one!! As i write this review i am still angry because it is so seldom that i get out to have ribs, and then half of them were taken and thrown in the bin!

I did not expect much since the pub is on the main road and looks like a run of the mill place.Inside the bar, seating areas and toilets show some good attention to detail, tastefully done and up to date.Beer is well kept, staff are busy, efficient and friendly. One guy in his early twenties had been there three years and shows passion for customer service coupled with love for his work and was tremendous. We had a BBQ lunch from a South African chef, no idea how they do it so well, everything tasted of BBQ but not one sign of burning. Home made sausages were a delight, plenty of side options and plates cleared very quickly.A really good venue, well executed all round, nice one.

We have frequented the Wheatsheaf for several years now and because of the lovely staff, food and venue we decided to celebrate our ruby wedding anniversary there. We had a fantastic time. Nothing was too much trouble for Roger (the owner) and his staff. Roger is South African by birth and because of our love for his homeland and their food and wine we decided to have a braai which is a South African BBQ. It was superb. The venue was excellent for our requirements as it has a lovely garden but if the weather is inclement (which it was) there is plenty of covered seating to accommodate everyone without encroaching on the bar area.

A family party visited here on Friday evening for what was hoped to be a small family birthday celebration. Food ordered we waited in anticipation which once arrived and tasted had to be the worst pub food tasted in a long long time. Even the children left their food which was well over cooked. As for the adults the only decent meal out of the 5 adults was the fish and chips. The so called South African burger was dry and like leather, the buns were dry and all who had chips found they had been doused in salt. If you try to enjoy a nice cool glass of white wine you will find it served lukewarm. We did not complain at the time not wishing to spoil a social event. However I would warn unsuspecting customers do not eat there until they change the chef.

I'll start with the cons as to be frank they are very minor . Entering the pub you are hit with a wall of scented candles that personally I found to be enough to to give me a headache and go out side for air. My toddler had a potion of chips with his lunch and didn't eat them. It wasn't until he'd had desert I realized the chips had be salted with far far to much salt making them inedible. (Please let the customer salt thier food!!! They may not be able to have salt!!) My friends little girl had pork and it was very pink, really not very healthy. I'd have complained but it's my mates local and he asked me not to. A dog seemed to be hovering around the table which I find utterly unacceptable. Plus points. The most amazing home made steak burger!!( Again overly salted chips) Good portions. Friendly professional staff. Very clean all over. Reasonably priced. I'd highly recommend buy do ask that food is covered in salt unless you like it that way of course. Only three stars as I feel the amount of salt and the fact it assumed you wanted it was really not very good .

We called in for a drink, looked at the menu and felt a friendly atmosphere so decided to choose this pub for our regular group night out last Saturday. What a good choice! We were made to feel welcome from the start by Daniel who served us drinks outside while we selected our meals, took our orders and let us know when the starters we're ready. Visited on the bank holiday Monday as my partner and a friend were taking part in their Man Vs Food challenge. I ordered some tapas for my dinner - five for ten pounds and my choices where calamari, potatoes, beef, humus and mushrooms with some bread on the side. the beef, calamari and potatoes where swimming in oil, the calamari was pretty indescribable but basically looked and tasted like rubber bands the bread had almost a damp texture to it, the only things that was slightly enjoyable was the mushrooms and humus. My partners food for the challenge had not arrived yet but I did pre warn him that I did not think that the challenge would be the quantity of food but more the quality. His challenge consisted of a portion of ribs with sweet potato fries and coleslaw, the ribs were tough, the meat dry and chewy and the sweet potato fries where in fact dry and unpleasant ordinary oven chips, the coleslaw was also fairly unpalatable. There was then six chicken wings which were also tough and overcooked and a hamburger which he said was okay, more oven chips and more coleslaw (yay). Needless to say he did not complete the challenge, more I think due to his jawbone giving out from all the chewing required to get through it than the quantity of food. Some of our party had food from the bbq which they said was good. possibly the kitchen was not on form that day because they where running the challenges but my tip would be if you are eating here then order from the bbq and avoid food from the kitchen, specially the tapas. Needless to say we very probably will not be visiting again. One good point I would say for them is that when they set a challenge then you really do make it a tough one............ Literally!

Witnessed the landlord telling a group of customers that if they didn’t like his pub they should go elsewhere as he didn’t need their custom. It was a very warm evening. Apparently the landlord was cold (although his sweaty forehead told a different story) and refused to have a couple of windows open. Not many landlords would risk losing 50% of their customers on a Saturday evening who seemed quite settled and were buying plenty of drinks. To top it all he then began to insult one of the group over their choice of outfit. Incredibly rude of him. It was like a scene from Fawlty Towers but without the humour. Best to avoid unless you like your beer served in a sauna. Perhaps that’s their tactics, make the environment so warm your punters buy more drinks! Fortunately we won’t be returning to find out if this is a regular occurrence.

Every time we opened them, he walked outside and pushed them shut, this happened a few times, and not once did he make himself known to us and explain why! When we started asking around, apparently it makes the customers drink more as they get so warm!!! Went to the Wheatsheaf on Sat night; they had an opening of the new toilets in the pub. Was quite busy as they were offering hotdogs and hamburgers. We got there about 9pm, took along time to be served due to being ignored by the bar staff. As it was busy there was nowhere to sit, there were several children there, we found a seat in between two families with children, some of the children were asleep and the parents still sat there drinking. Think that children should not be allowed in the pub at that time of night. Due to the lack of seats and the families we had to leave. The new bathrooms were lovely but had no toilet roll holders or hand dryers. Overall a nice pub.

It's was very tasty and just right for a light lunch. There is an option for 8 or 10 choices as well. My first time having tapas there and I'll definitely try again. I've always opted for the Ribs or traditional South African Sausage before but I'll save those now for winter! On other notes, clean bathrooms, comfy booths, friendly locals and a lovely garden. Excellent lunch with good company. The owner was very welcoming and chatty. We stopped here for lunch on the way to the steam railway. I had a South African burger and my wife had chicken salad all were excellent.

The pub has a very large outside space with lots of tables, it has a lovely atmosphere. We didn't eat in the pub, however I have been told the food is very good. We only had beer and cider amongst us, of which there was a reasonable selection. A pleasant, relaxed pub to visit.

Went to this pub last week after reading reports on Trip Advisor and were extremely disappointed in the standard of the food. My calamari for starters was fine but the garlicky, cheesey pizza bread turned out to be a pizza base with cheese - it lacked taste and garlic, of which there was none. Waitress apologised with a smile, saying that the chef must have forgotten to put it on !! I had the ribs for main course and was looking forward to some well cooked meat but alas, it was not to be. They were smothered in a BBQ sauce which overpowered any taste the meat may have had and I had to wrench the meat off the bones with my teeth. Awful. My husband had the chicken sosaties which were OK except that the salad was drowned in dressing. Very overpriced for the quality of the food. Decor was nice but nothing to get overwhelmed about. I doubt the validity of some reports or maybe they don't get out much! We won't be back!

We were looking for somewhere to eat travelling down to the south coast. We turned off the M40 before hitting the M25 and ended up in the village of Chinnor. On first appearance the Wheatsheaf did not look a promising place to eat. The pub was just your average local in appearance and was was full of locals enjoying a drink after work. Nobody was eating. It goes to show that first appearances can be deceiving. The beer was great (one of their own brews), service was excellent and the food great. I had spare ribs, a neanderthal man would have been pleased with the size of the portion. My wife had salmon tagitelli which was good.I wish our local pub was as good as the Wheatsheaf in Chinnor.

Great adventurous menu, with large portions and all freshly cooked. The website is a bit confusing as the Menu implies you can get tapas everyday in fact this is only on Sundays and the Biltong is nowhere to be found, that said the Bar staff who also do the waitressing were really friendly and helpful and happy to explain anything to us. This pub is lively and busy with seating indoors and outside, fun decor, and a great atmosphere - The food is superb and really great value! We chose Sosaties (recommended) and Pulled Pork wraps, the Ribs &Chips were very popular and huge , the Oven fired Pizza's smelt delicious and looked good too! We'll have to go back.

My family and I are regulars to the wheatsheaf, very often on a Friday evening we will have tea here and we have eaten here before on a Sunday, so after along day working in the garden we decided to pop to our 'local' for some food. Since our last Sunday visit the menu has changed and the fayre on offer now was tapas or bbq chicken skewers or bbq lamb chops, none of which appealed, but we decided to stay. The tapas was served as so many dishes for a set price and the bbq was a set price of £11.95. My husband and I opted for the bbq. When it came it was literally the meat with a small salad side and 2 pitta breads, which in my opinion was extremely over priced. The children did have fish fingers with chips and chicken nuggets and chips, which were much better value than the adult meals, but weren't advertised or obviously available. Overall I was very very disappointed by my dining experience

Visited with family for Sunday lunch and opted for the Roast Dinner. Cold food, fatty meat and seemingly uncooked Yorkshire puddings. Minimal interest from the waitress when we highlighted that the food was cold. Foolishly stayed for dessert. Eton mess consisted of whipped cream, few pieces of meringue and some raspberry sauce in a wine glass - no fruit in sight.

Went here on Good Friday for lunch. The barman was on his own and struggled to keep up the service, nice guy and did his best. The chef was it appears also on his own judging by the one hour it took too deliver 4 meals. The fish and chips had an incredibly small portion of fish, The South African sausages were dry enough to have come form the dessert, the chicken skewer was OK. It was a warm enough day to eat in the garden but worrying to see dog excrement scattered around in various stages of decomposition in the garden where children play. Unfortunately the swings are broken and the slide decrepit.

Went for a Friday night meal with the wife and kids. As always the food was excellent and Roger and his team severed us promptly and politely. Would recommend to anyone, make sure you are hungry as the portion sizes are generous.

A very warm welcome to our arrival (a friend as well as my dog). Surprisingly the restaurant was quite empty (perhaps because it was a cold day?)I had a burger which was HUGE and although tasty, a bit dry. However, the service was awesome and I shall return in spring - hopefully to a spring menu.

Reading some of the reviews, I wonder if we're going to the same pub! We are regular visitors. the landlord is always welcoming and the staff are friendly and helpful. The food is always good; the burgers particularly are fantastic, and completely home made, even the buns.

First time I’ve ever written a review – that should give you some idea how bad this restaurant is. Best advice I can give is avoid it – booked a table for 7 for my daughter’s birthday meal. We had to wait over an hour for the meal to arrive. It wasn’t worth the wait, the Sunday lunch tasted like leftovers, parsnips burnt, roast potatoes had seen better days. The mean on skewers was burnt – came with pita bread that was cold. Can’t believe how bad it was – complained and got a desert for free - I should have been paid to eat there. A free pudding was no compensation for an appalling experience and rubbish meal. I will never go there again.

If you're hoping for a South African culinary experience, then sadly you're going to be disappointed - or misled! On arrival we were informed that there was no boerewors. No boerewors in a SA restaurant? Skandaal! We chose ribs and steak instead. The ribs were dry, and tough, and the chips were hard and undercooked. The blue cheese sauce for the steak was thin and watery. Our food arrived an hour and a half after being seated at our table. We then chose koeksusters for dessert, which took 30 minutes to arrive. As for the koeksusters - what a disaster. I'm sorry, but a piece of plaited dry dough with thin syrup poured over it does not constitute a koeksuster. Most of our party sent them back. Nee wat mense, julle moet harder proebeer. On a positive note, the decor is great!

I'm staying in a nearby hotel and got fed up with the food so I looked to trip advisor to see what's local. I chose this place. I'm down here on my own and was instantly greeted on arrival. A very warm and welcoming pub. I tried a South African meal called boerewors which was nice. An overall welcoming and pleasant experience. Will definitely eat here again.

This beautiful family run pub is a little ‘gem’! It is cosy and welcoming and we held my father-in-law’s funeral reception in the lovely conservatory, which was perfect for 30 people. Alan and Wendy organised everything, which meant we didn’t have to worry about anything. The buffet was delicious including home made quiche and sandwiches and the service was excellent. Thank you Amy and Anais for looking after us all. You helped turn a sad day into a joyful family get together! Thank you Alan and Wendy.

I Wasn’t expecting too much from a pub dinner in a rather nondescript Oxfordshire village on a Tuesday evening but I was most pleasantly surprised. The pub is very old and as such cosy and inviting. There is a good selection of draught beer served at one of the fireside tables by most welcoming staff. The menu is varied and original and prices are reasonable. One of the specials of the day was sea bass. It was as good as any top London restaurant. The 45 minute drive was well worth it and I shall be returning soon.
