Consistently good. Freshly cooked light meals, decent coffee and friendly service. Bike parking in the garden too. A great alternative to Riverside nearby

So, having had a traumatic egg event in Canterbury, I thought I'd be brave and try the Eggs Benedict. It was sublime, the hollendaise sauce was perfect. The combination of texture and flavour was so delicious. Friendly staff, lovely setting, what a gem of a cafe. Thank you

We came across the Cartshed by chance. What a lovely surprise. Good selection of gluten free and vegan foods. Polite service, quality locally sourced foods.(well done) The beans were a bit dry but everything else was wonderful and tasty. I would have liked the option of gluten free pasta but I appreciate this is a higher cost product. Very lay back with no pressure to be in and out quickly. We will definitely come back.

My partner and I went there for breakfast today and were very disappointed. We both had the The Shed Brunch with smoked salmon. The food was stone cold with overcooked poached eggs. The portion of smashed avocado was almost non existent whilst the smoked salmon portion was enough for four people! The food was clearly pre-prepared and probably kept in the fridge ready to send out as soon as an order is placed. The thin piece of sourdough toast was soggy as if the avocado had been sitting on it in the fridge for ages. The poached eggs were obviously cooked in cling film or similar and also freezing cold. No waitress came near us to ask how the food was or to clear our plates in the time we sat there. Will give it a wide berth in the future. Looking at other reviews I'm sure to get a rude reply! Ps. no tables service including being offered any condiments when the food was delivered. We had to figure out where to get these ourselves!!

I visit cartshed at least once a week, to take my laptop using the space to work with a bit of focus. The food is high quality and fresh, and it's nice to see familiar staff who are always really welcoming. I often use the sister cafe the OxShed cafe which has similarly delicious food and a dedicated workspace upstairs. I recommend the fresh smoothies, and lemon and drizzle cake!

We have eaten at the Cartshed many times over the years at one point visiting weekly for breakfast. We often saw the owners and chatted with the staff and one of the chefs. We were regularly the only guests enjoying an early breakfast on a Saturday morning during lockdown. Service seemed to go downhill a few months ago, so we stopped going. We restarted a few weeks ago, but our visit on Saturday has left us reeling.... Here is the list of things that went wrong: wrong eggs on one breakfast. Extra 'buttered' toast was barely buttered (see photo). When asked for butter I was given sharp response of 'it's already buttered'. Breakfast came out again, with right egg, but only one. Another poached egg was delivered, but was stone cold. Went to the counter and was met with 'what is it this time'. I also asked for replacement buttered toast... Breakfast reappears as ordered, my husband has almost finished his breakfast at this stage. Then some toast is delivered with a sarcastic ‘hope it’s got enough butter for you’ – it looked like it had been bathed in butter. I then asked for the breakfast order to be cancelled and a refund. Throughout all of this not once did anyone apologise. Another waitress appeared and gave me cash refund for the breakfast (not for the drink or extra toast). I then went to the counter and asked for a card refund – as I had paid by card and also asked for toast to be refunded. The waitress said ‘why are you giving me all this sh*t’. I was astonished, I was merely making a very valid complaint so was quite shocked by this. She then ran to the kitchen saying ‘that b*tch is out there’. I was so shocked. Another staff member appeared and gave me the refund as legally required, back to the debit card. I have considered how to complain about this. I know the staff would not behave like that if the owners had been there. I have tried to contact the owners directly, but nobody answers the phone. Anyway, on reading responses to other reviews from the Cartshed, I’ve decided to post this. This was a true representation of events. Beware if you happen to complain about the service here, for fear of being sworn at, called a b*tch and ending up leaving very hungry. And yes the prices have hiked right up, as expected given the current climate, but the food is not worth it and the service is non-existent. Let us see how the Cartshed responds to this review.

Nice cafe, good food and good choice for vegans. HOWEVER, although they accommodated my request for a vegan breakfast (no halloumi/no eggs and instead double the avocado and baked beans), instead I was given TINNED - yes - TINNED baked beans and nothing else to replace the halloumi and eggs and STILL charged £10. Absolutely outrageous and will not return.

Was really looking forward to our breakfast at the Cart Shed. Arrived at 10am for our reservation, at which point there were only a few tables occupied. Ordered breakfast and drinks at 10:08. By 10:30, other tables had arrived and were already being served their food. We politely asked the waiter for an update on our meals, who admitted that he’d misplaced our order and food will be with us shortly. Food came out 43 minutes after the initial order, and was stone cold. We called the waiter back over, and even asked him to touch the food (which he did) with his hand to verify that it was cold, which he did. We asked to speak with the manager. Another 5 minutes passed before he came to speak to us, he asked how we’d like to proceed. He denied that the food could possibly be cold as they have ‘hot plates’, little to his knowledge that a member of his own staff had actually touched the food and agreed with us. We requested a full refund, as we did not have time to sit and wait around for another 40 minutes. Only our food was refunded, not the 2 rounds of coffee/juices that we’d ordered during our exponential waiting time. Manager did not seem bothered to satisfy our service. I absolutely will not be returning or recommending family/friends to visit. If you want to eat a nice breakfast head to the waterfront - drinks arrived 3 minutes after ordering and a lovely breakfast within a reasonable time frame.

The venue although hard to find, is a little gem. By booking ahead for a group of 12 disabled people, the parking was easy. There is a flat path to the main entrance and a portable ramp for wheel chairs., The loo, although wide enough for wheel chairs, could do from benefiting with grab rales, as wheelchair users found it difficult to transfer. The food was excellent, with the best scones. One member was gluten free and she was amazed by the plate presented. Tea and coffee were unlimited. Overall it was excellent and we would certainly go again.

Average score for average food. Nice venue, if a little hot as all the windows were shut and not allowed to use the seats outside because of the neighbours. Ridiculous. After an active and fun cricketing Saturday (including a few drinks!) with friends, we visited the Cartshed Cafe for much-needed breakfasts and coffees. It did not disappoint our large group, which included little ones of mixed ages. In fact, it was faultless. The service (caring and professional), the food (delicious and perfect for a hangover) and the atmosphere (relaxed and comfortable) was ideal. Those factors plus the little area for kids (with thoughtful toys), the beautiful interior and the relaxed/informal seating makes it a model of excellence for cafes; we were sated physically (and emotionally!). Good points are the building itself which is lovely and the locally sourced food tastes and looks very healthy. Bad points are the car park isn't right next to it--I have an elderly mother and she struggles over any distance--it has the feel of a student kitchen--when I've been, the staff have been very young and it felt like they were being trained as some of them kept asking how to do things like work the till. The cafe itself has quite a few "office workers' taking up an entire table with their cup of coffee and laptops and papers etc The tables are VERY sticky. This all sounds a bit negative so I'd stress that the food itself is excellent.

Found this earlier today when looking for the Benson Tea Rooms (which we never did find!) and so pleased we stumbled across it. Loved the interior with all the beams and fairy lights. The food and coffee were delicious and the staff really helpful and friendly. There is a small area dedicated to children with books and games which is sooo helpful if you just want five minutes peace with a cuppa. Will definitely be back and would heartily recommend.

We decided on the spur of the moment to visit for lunch, as I have wanted to visit since the cafe opened. Parking was easy, and the entrance easy to access.

Can't believe how they've built this business in such a hidden location so quickly. Actually I can: hard work, great cakes, great all-day breakfast, good coffee and good service. Have visited several times this year and always good and usually buzzing with customers. Long may they continue! Lovely barn conversion as well.

We popped in here for a quick cup of tea as it was rather chilly outside. Unfortunately we found it to be quite cold inside too and kept our coats on for the duration of our visit. The lemon cake was a bit dry and crumbly which was a shame. The tea was good and was a generous cup full.

My husband and I took my mother to Wallingford, where my daughter lived a few years ago, - a trip down memory lane.

The Cartshed kindly agreed to provide afternoon tea for our family (3 generations) to celebrate my husband’s birthday - a first for them. We had a selection of finger sandwiches, cakes, scones with clotted cream & jam, plus drinks. It was very nicely presented and everything was great, especially the delicious freshly baked scones, though the brownies could have been more squidgy and less cakey. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly - perfect for the toddlers to be able to wander off at times to play with the toys - and the staff were really helpful and accommodating. A lovely afternoon - thanks Cartshed!

The Cartshed was recommended so I thought we would give a go. We found it very welcoming with friendly staff and a great selection of food and drinks. It was a welcome mid ride stop. I have recommended this cafe to all in our cycling club. We will definitely be back.

A very happy place to visit with friends for coffee/tea and a bite to eat. An interesting place away from the traffic.

After walking from Wallingford, over the weir we (4 adults, 2 children) visited the Cartshed. Was my first time and I love what they are doing! I didn’t know what to choose as all looked tasty so asked the chef who recommended the tartiflette with salad. Oh my, so delicious! My partner had the freshly baked sausage roll which I asked to have a side salad added to, it was very yummy. My friends had cream teas. Freshly baked scones, great tea and very high quality cream and jam. Overall, food was all freshly cooked and very very tasty. Scouring tartiflette recipes on the internet to recreate!!

We visited on New Year’s Day and were pleased to find it was open compared to other nearby destinations. We were greeted with a warm friendly welcome. There was an enticing selection of food and drink to choose from.

I went to the Cartshed for the first time as part of a large group. The owners and all staff were very welcoming and friendly and did their very best to get us all served quickly despite the small kitchen! The hot chocolate is excellent and there is great choice of breakfast/brunch on the menu, from classic full English to delicious poached eggs with salmon and avocado. Would definitely visit again.

This beautiful family run pub is a little ‘gem’! It is cosy and welcoming and we held my father-in-law’s funeral reception in the lovely conservatory, which was perfect for 30 people. Alan and Wendy organised everything, which meant we didn’t have to worry about anything. The buffet was delicious including home made quiche and sandwiches and the service was excellent. Thank you Amy and Anais for looking after us all. You helped turn a sad day into a joyful family get together! Thank you Alan and Wendy.

I Wasn’t expecting too much from a pub dinner in a rather nondescript Oxfordshire village on a Tuesday evening but I was most pleasantly surprised. The pub is very old and as such cosy and inviting. There is a good selection of draught beer served at one of the fireside tables by most welcoming staff. The menu is varied and original and prices are reasonable. One of the specials of the day was sea bass. It was as good as any top London restaurant. The 45 minute drive was well worth it and I shall be returning soon.

We were pleased to find this little gem at the marina and have returned several times, usually for breakfast. It is well used by people with boats moored nearby and that has created a friendly atmosphere. Not pretentious but friendly host. Good quality produce is used and prices very reasonable.
