Me mam brought me here for coffee. It’s up one of Morpeth’s many narrow lanes and isn’t immediately obvious but you’ll see the helpful neon sign at the end to guide you. Friendly staff. Good coffee. Me and mam split a cheese and ham toastie which was exceptional. Homemade bread. Wonderful Red Leicester cheese and a thick, quality ham. Mam said toilet was in great shape. Why four stars not five? The toastie arrived quite a time after the coffees. But, four stars means ‘very good’ and it is. And we tipped the staff. And we’ll be back.

This little café was an excellent find on a damp November afternoon. Tucked away just off the old market square it offered a hearty range from scones and home made cakes to corned beef pie and even fishfinger sandwiches. The coffee is good and the service friendly, worth stopping by if you get gingery near Morpoth.

The Wheatsheaf Coffee shop is found up a small alleyway off the main Newgate Street in Morpeth. A board in the street is the the only visible sign that an excellent little eating spot exists. One real benefit of this location is even when Morpeth is very busy this cafe feels quiet and pleasant. It is a family run and most food is homemade. The quality is very good, the helpings are generous and the taste is very satisfying. A full range of tea, coffee, lunches and cakes etc are available. If it is very busy you may have a short wait because everything is prepared to order but it is still efficient. Also the whole offering is excellent value for money. Closes at 4pm.

Popped in one Saturday for lunch. Plenty of choice on the menu but ended up with a panini with the wife opting for a toastie. Both were delicious and reasonably priced. As I work in Morpeth, I thought I'd try a takeaway sandwich for lunch one day - this was prepared quickly and just as delicious.. also had a piece of cake too by accident! Staff are very friendly and helpful and the place has a lovely atmosphere - would thoroughly recommend!

Haven't been since it changed hands. The lady in the coffee shop was very welcoming and, although we had originally gone for coffee and a scone, we had a bacon butty instead. The latte was lovely and hot, but I was disappointed with the bacon roll. I'd asked for white bread but a wholemeal roll was served. The bacon was fried, not grilled and some of it was so "well done" it was dry and hard and difficult to chew.

Popped in to this lovely hidden gem after going to the nearby park with our two year old twins. The staff were lovely and very happy to spend a few minutes entertaining our children in between serving customers. I had heard effusive reports about the corned beef pie and it is safe to say that our boys were very enthusiastic about eating it (demolished in record time!). From personal experience the cakes are also ridiculously moreish. I was saddened to see a lengthy queue spilling out on to the street from Greggs as we left to walk down the high street. Families of Morpeth take note....

Myself and my daughter always call at the Wheatsheaf when we visit Morpeth, on our latest visit we noticed a sign informing us that it was under new managment, undeterred we headed in. It was very quiet with only 2 other tables occupied, as soon as we sat down we were offered a menu and asked what drinks we would like ( all good so far ) I ordered my usual cheese and onion toastie and my daughter ordered a pannini, our drinks were served promptly, the same can't be said for the rest of our order, we waited an absolute age but to be fair when it did arrive it was well presented and delicious as usual, by this time the other tables had left and we were the only 2 people in there. on finishing our sandwiches we would of liked a piece of cake, unfortunately we were never asked, the 2 servers disappeared into the kitchen and were never seen again, except to take my money, to say the service was poor and not up to the usual standard is fair comment, we will certainly think twice about visiting the Weatsheaf again, it's a shame, it's a lovely little cafe with lovely home made food but on this occasion the service let them down badly.

I want to start this review by saying Myself, mother and sister have visited this cafe for years now and never had an issue well until I last entered the establishment. All the waiting ladies are fantastic and always have been ever since I started visiting this cafe, but on our most recent visit. One rude comment had to spoil our opinion of the Wheatsheaf. Myself and my mother ordered our usual, which for my mother is a coffee and lovely homemade scone. And my usually of a ham, cheese and onion toastie (as of which on the menu states extra price for extra filling......fair enough this has always been the case. The lovely lady who took our order entered the kitchen in which we happened to be sitting close too, in which at that moment heard a very abrupt voice call out from the kitchen 'Well they better be paying extra for the 3 fillings'. I'm not one for being picky or complaining but if your new management and you want to keep loyal customers, please please change your horrible attitude. You have already lost us as customers as after this remark was made the woman stomped around the cafe making a deal out of a toastie. I will not bother again. It's a shame because my mother visited this cafe whilst she was in school and so did I. Looks like its been dragged down by management.

Working in Morpeth one day, decided to pop out at lunchtime for a snack. There are many opportunities for sustenance in this busy little town, but as I left Boots I noticed a sign directing customers along a passage to The Wheatsheaf. It was small and very busy, but I managed to get a table. There is a limited menu of typical cafe style good, unpretentious and very reasonably priced.I ordered Welsh Rarebit with bacon and chutney, followed by a home made pecan nut and maple syrup wholemeal scone and a pot of tea.The rarebit was delicious, the accompanying salad was an interesting variety of beautifully fresh ingredients and an obviously home made coleslaw. The scone was really tasty, plenty nuts, good flavour of maple without being too sweet and Demerara sugar on top have it extra texture.Less than £7 for everything. The three staff worked flat out, but were pleasant and friendly.I have read the comments on Trip Adviser regarding cleanliness, but I wasn't aware of any deficiencies - either staff have taken note and stepped up? Or some customers are just unreasonable!!Well worth a visit.

When we first visited the Wheatsheaf it was an acceptable stop off point. However since then its changed hands and there is a very noticeable decline in the standards that you would expect. Even since our last visit, they have stopped accepting credit cards although there is no notice forewarning you. Also in our last 2 visits the serving staff have been teenagers who seem more interested in their own and their friends social life than looking after the customers, Suffice to say we won't be visiting here again unless the management of the cafe changes for the better.Just a few tips to the serving staff:-1. When handling cutlery, PLEASE hold the cutlery by the handle and NOT by the end of the fork or knife. This is not hygienic and NOT acceptable.2. Customers are not interested in yours or your friends social life, so please stop talking about it in the kitchen for all to hear 3. No matter how quiet the cafe maybe, customers come first so please try and stay in the cafe and not hide in the kitchen4. Know what specials are still available and amend the blackboard accordingly. This will save customers being disappointed.Last but not least as a general point the servings are much smaller.

We were never asked how it was so my mum made a comment on leaving and no apology we were just told it would be passed to the manager who was quite clearly sitting in the corner on her phone & chatting to her friend! My first, and last, visit here. Looks like it has recently been decorated, but that was the only positive. I had the full English breakfast, which had been cooked on a griddle. Not nice. Greasy, poor quality ingredients, bone dry toast, poor coffee served in small cups. We were not made to feel welcome. In Morpeth, there are many coffee shops and small cafés, so a good deal of effort is needed to be competitive. This place disappointed me on many levels and I cannot recommend it.

The menu has a selection of sandwiches cakes and hot food including some specials and oven baked jacket potato. We all chose the cheese and tuna panini and filter coffee the coffee was served in mugs or cups with milk or cream. It was served at the table from the filter jug like an american diner and refilled without us requesting it. The sandwiches were delicious, well filled and served with crisps and a garnish of lovely fresh salad and coleslaw. The deserts and cakes are home made and I had a marzipan and apricot wholemeal scone which was served warm with butter totally delicious, my friends had an apple and bramble crumble and banoffi pie these came with a choice of ice cream, cream or custard. The were lovely as well according to my friends. There are many places to eat in Morpeth but the staff here were very friendly and attentive and the lady who served us was a delight! We have visited the Wheat sheaf a number of times over recent years and each time the quality of service in particular seems to continue to decline. To be far this seems to be the attitude of the younger staff and their inability to remember more than two things at a time. We visited again today and the service was really slow but we also saw another delay in serving what we considered a simple choice I.e. Panini's and a jacket potato. Some of the jacket potato was undercooked and the topping was sloppy. In the future we will try other establishments before returning here, finally just to point out that credit cards are not accepted.

Ever since I can remember being little, our grandparents would take us out to Morpeth for the day. Over the years, Morpeth has changed considerably with the new Sanderson Arcade & Bus station. Many of the shops have come and gone. Though thankfully one of our fondest memories is of going along the cut off the main street and diving to find a free table in an always busy, bustling and popular little coffee shop. This being the Wheatsheaf. Always a friendly smile and decent child portions with salad and crisps! Now having reached adulthood, I can say the meals are also quite suitable for adults as well. The place hasn't changed much over the years, there's always hanging baskets packed with flowers *Very Beautiful in the Summer*. Our visit being in the cold, March air, the main entrance still looked as inviting as ever. We even had to grab a spare table in the side room *which used to be the smoking area* as the main room was packed! Busy as ever.We ordered tea for two, whilst scouring the varied selection of sarnies, baguettes, pies, quiches and jacket potatoes! My Partner had Bacon, Ham & Chicken with Mozzarella Cheese Baguette with Salad and I decided on a Stilton & Broccoli Quiche with new potatoes, garden peas and salad. Both very yummy and filling having been on a long walk around Carlisle Park.If you're looking for a simple, homely and decently priced meal *Our meal came to £13.75 ^_^* then Wheatsheaf is a place to go and relax while the rest of the World bustles by shopping, as you can't hear any noise from the main street : )One thing to note is that have don't have a card machine, so make sure you can pay in cash ; ) After all the price of a meal out here isn't going to break the bank! It's a true part of Morpeth & my fondest memories of days visiting the Steppey Stones, Carlisle Park, Rutherford's & the Chantry. All well worth a visit!

As always the food was amazing and the portions very generous. A lovely warm welcome and Sarah went above and beyond when one of our party decided after our meals were brought out that she would like some bread and butter with her meal. Sarah sorted it out without any fuss.

We stopped by chance at The Percy Arms for a drink and ended up eating an amazing meal-Wednesday afternoon and very quiet but the food was delicious and the service excellent. The soup was very tasty and the steak cooked to perfection - we will return!

I’m so sad to see this lovely place closed. It had great staff and atmosphere and a fantastically good smoked haddock chowder. I wish its people all the best and I thank them for all the great visits we’ve had here. I really hope that there might be a replacement cafe of such quality. We’ll watch with interest.

Our introduction to this country pub was to a spacious, comfortable, immaculately clean bedroom, with stunning views of the fells. Next dinner and cooking of Michelin quality. A highlight was the scallop with belly pork, a brilliant dish. Next morning breakfast, again flawless in every respect from the service to the produce. Any prospective dining pub owner/chef should come here to see how it's done.

My partner & I came here on Sunday for a spot of lunch we both had Fish & Chips ( I had salad with mine instead of chips) I have to say the fish was amazing I would say 100 times better than you would get at a fish shop. The batter was so light & crispy and the fish tasted so good. The staff made us feel so welcome happy smiling faces and we did not have to wait long before our food came I would whole heartily recommend plants plus for lunch
