Coastline Fish and Chips Restuarant in Northumberland

Very expensive the chips are not very good. Lots of hard ends of potato used. Service ok but felt rushed. Food was ok.. chips not good, like the small end cuttings and unedible. Wait a long time to be served, noisy and busy.

We stopped off at the Links looking for a light lunch and found The Coastline. Nice warm welcome and we were soon seated. The staff were fine throughout which is always good as nothing puts the dampers on things like a server with a long face. We had chip butties and halloumi in batter - the latter not for the fainthearted. Perhaps the bread rolls were a little dry but overall a good experience.

Called in for a takeaway of fish and chips with mushy peas. The total price was £14.80!!!!!! They were okay but very expensive for a small to medium fish. You don't have to go far from here to get better for less.

Close to the sea , car Park and Dave Stephens centre . First time i tried their takeaway fish & chips which was delicious and crispy. We ordered 2 fish & chips which cost us nearly 27 pound. We added sweet chilli sauce and garlic sauce ( 45p each sauce ). they have outdoor and indoor seating area.

Pretty decent fish and chips, lots of alternatives to choose from too.

Great place to visit, with a fabulous choice of food and drinks. Breakfast menu, fish and chip menu, ice cream, coffee, tea etc.. Definitely worth a visit. Staff are really friendly, helpful and polite. Been many times and will be back again.

Food is expensive but worth it. I don’t go there much because I often get screwed over by them. Last time was missing an entire meal and today was missing a meal and a half. Literally !!! Not great when the family of 4 sit for dinner together and meals are missing. I’m afraid I have now been disappointed 1 too many times and won’t be returning.

Good value, good portion, good quality food. I've been a few times and will continue to buy from here. Honestly it's great.

Called Easter Sunday. Very busy. Food lovely.

Have always enjoyed visiting when we in the area. Sadly visited today and was disappointed at how it had gone downhill. The waitress was surly and not at all helpful my husband gluten free and in past was catered for. Waitress wasn't interested and made no attempt to help or find out what he might order. Th cutlery was dirty chips not as good and vase of rotten daffodils in dirty water on table considering the price we paid not good. We will not be returning.

The staff were all so rude! We have visited before and the staff have always been rude. They sat 8 of us on a table for 6 so we asked to move as two of us were just stood up without anywhere to sit, the waitress moved us and then a different waitress came over and told us off for moving tables and then when we explained we had asked to be moved, she demanded we told her who had said we could. So strange! You would think the staff were being forced to work there. They got most of our order wrong and brought out drinks in dirty glasses and then kicked off when we mentioned they had our food order wrong. In the end, we just ate our food and left even though the order wasn't right because we were sick of the abuse we were getting from the staff. Maybe management need to put some effort into staff training or swap the staff for people who want to actually be there. What a weird way to treat your customers!

Usually visit coastline on a weekly basis with no real issues visited for an easter good friday treat to find prices had been increased and portion sizes decreased. Very disappointing, won’t be back well done coastline.

We used to love coming to your restaurant... menus changed now costs extra 20 pounds to feed a family on top of wat it did last month on old menus yea prices go up maybe 5 to 10 per table but 20 pounds more expensive now to have a family meal bit extreme shame a real shame .

Went for fish n chips on Sunday, staff were great, the food was tremendous, and we all really enjoyed the atmosphere

The restaurant was very bright and comfortable, the food was fantastic, and arrived pretty quickly even though there was a lot in. They do takeaway as well.

Myself and my wife went in the Coastline for a cup of tea, but after smelling the food we just had to have some. And for the money we have to pay these days, it's fair to say you get value for money. I had fish chips and mushy peas it also came with a bread roll and a cup of tea all at a set price of I think it was £14, my wife had cheesey chips Spam fritter and beans and coffee and a extra portion of gravy, came to around £11, the portions were very plentiful, cooked really nice the cod was delicious the batter was awesome and the chips were beaut, the fritter was huge and the Mrs said it was gorgeous. The staff were very nice. Chatty and friendly, it was a great place to go in on the of chance and I would recommend the Coastline to anyone.

Tracy very rude. Came away and was ill later in the evening. Restaurant expensive with small portion sizes.

We go most weekends with our mum as its the only time she gets out of the house, and they have the BEST ice cream in the Northeast !

Nice fish and chips. Shame they dont facilitate people with alergies, not very inclisive.

Love this place, always come when visiting relatives, for breakfast and fish and chips. The fish is huge and delicious, and reasonably priced for a coastline special. The breakfast items are just as good. Would highly recommend. The staff there are helpful, polite and efficient.

Lovely food,although everything is priced individually!! We expected £9.75 for fish and chips. Actually chips were priced individually at £3.25 per portion!! Please be careful when ordering as the final cost could become very high.

Not a pleasant experience at all. The food was basic for the price, the curry sauce was tasteless, the staff member named tracy with the rose west looking appearance was very harsh and rude, not just to me as she was on a previous visit but then witnessed yet again on this visit a couple sat on the table across from us they didn't wait to be seated then tracy decided to totally ignore them for 15 minutes. When the couple decided to raise there hand and ask for a menu she told them to go and stand and the podium and wait to be seated to which they yet again had another 15 minute wait due to tracy's spite and stinking attitude. I shall not be returning. I understand I won't be missed but with such horrid and unpleasant staff representing your company it should be actioned. GET HER OUT. Shes not smiling waiting tables lets see her crack a smile in the dole queue because it is the best place for her. I assure you it will be a good riddance. Let me know when she gets her p45 i will bring the family down and sing adios amigos. Xx

The black puddin was lovely with the chips1 not good

I posted a previous review in 2021 so this is a more up to date reflection. Portion sizes still huge so we opted for 1 portion of cod chips and peas and 2 cod pieces. I got a bonus cod piece. We shared the chips and peas so no waste and perfect portion sizes for both. This trip was a Thursday lunchtime and we got a nice seat in a booth as the place was quieter than previous visits. All round I’d recommend and have only marked down for service as there was a member of staff at the greeting counter when we arrived but she didn’t acknowledge us wrote on a piece of paper then disappeared. A simple hello and i’ll be with you in a minute would have been nice. We didn’t have to wait long though for a different cheerful friendly member of staff to arrive and take us to a table. The toilets were spotless and tables clean and was a perfect pit stop on our walk back to Seaton sluice.

Best fish and chips in the area. But the cutlery you have to eat it with is disgusting. Dried food stuck on the forks and extra napkins needed to polish them

I always try to get to Coastline everytime i am back up at Home. Is is genuinely the best fish and chips, bar none! When you enter you are greeted and seated by really friendly staff, when you order the food comes really quickly there was no wait. The food is out of this world, massive fish, beautiful tasty batter and the fish tastes so good, sometimes fish elsewhere is a bit tasteless, not here. The Chips are big and delicious, and whats more is that they are not greasy at all which makes them taste even better. The prices are very reasonable and the portion you get for the money is sooo good. When i am back in my hometown of Blyth i will not go anywhere else!

Easy to find, great location! So close to the sea side. Great interior, really emulates a vintage dine. Really nice staff too! Very generous portion sizes however I’d say little bit dear! One issue I did have however was many forks were quite dirty, had to rummage through the box to find some clean ones. Very fast service though considering how busy it seemed. Overall pleasant experience!

Quick service for a busy business. I think 20p for a sachet of tomato sauce is a bit much. Tasty chis but a bit anaemic blooming lively pineapple fritter though!! Don't bother with a latte if you like a strong coffee it's very weak.

Not the best fish and chips, chips were dry, fish not good taste. My grandson got fish Finger sandwich, very dry bun with no butter. Most went in the bin. The girls were friendly.

2nd visit here, previous visit was spot on, this occasion the waitress was miserable just walked away, got fish and chips, fish was lovely but the chips were rubbery and tasted like they had been sat all day. Shame because the fish and curry were lovely.

Really good food. Not too greasy. Fantastic selection which is reasonably priced. Car park outside makes it accessible. Service was promoted and staff were helpful.

Not a fish lover but really fancied fish n chips. And the fish and batter were superb..

Got a table straight away. However right next to a table of empty boxes. Didn’t really mind that but found it odd. Then waitress just walked away. We sat for around 15 minutes. Still unable to order or even get a drink. Then a larger table asked to order and the waitress basically ignored them as she came to clean tables Terrible service. We walked out at this point.

Bought cod and chips and fish bites live local all were cold when I got home fish tough and didn’t appear fresh very expensive would not return or recommend

Good spot for Fish and Chips up Blyth. Very clean very modern establishment. Plenty of choices. Although the prices are were a little high for the portion sizes especially the Scampi. Worked out at almost £1 per Scampi. Overall decent but would visit maybe once a while.

Cod bite and chips is enough for 2 if you're after a light bite each! Generous service and nice staff

I'm veggie!!! Use a tastier variety of spuds for the chips please. (Yes the halloumi is amazing but it's huge for one and not the best to reheat) So it's all great, I can see the fish is really good but what I will say is the portions are huge and so there seems to be room for slightly smaller portions?? Mum (80) and I share a fish meal and even that's a push. I hope there's not as many people share their leftovers with their dog as us cos that's an environmental disaster. Wasteful of fish and all that energy cooking it. The children's fish bite portion is enough chips but too little fish.... Excellent value though. Moan moan moan. I can't fault the people though.

Refused to serve us despite being told they hadn’t as we were wanting milkshakes. Would give zero stars if could. Treating two kids like it? Disgusting

Seemed a long wait for two slices of toast with some tuna mayo slapped in between (which contained sweetcorn but didn't say on menu). Salad garnish was missing too. Coffee really good as usual, along with the Biscoff biscuit.

Impressive and not a small fish and chip restaurant. There was fast seating, and incredibly friendly wait staff. However, it is clear that this place cuts corners on how it respects it's staff: minimum wage, under 21s, rushing staff about etc etc. This impacts the quality of food and delivery this place is trying to provide. The chips were not cooked long enough, providing a paler colour, the batter on the cod bites results in overcooked and dry cod. BUT the squid, scampi and prawns were better than anywhere else and I would highly recommend. I can't speak for the full sized fish but I hope that it is better than the fish bites.

This place never fails to produce first class food delivered by the very polite and friendly staff.

Enjoyed a really nice lunch here with some colleagues. My choice was the cod with chips and curry sauce (off course!) Came out quickly and was delicious. Will go back next time I'm in Blyth.

Went for fish and chips with family. No issues with cod, fishcake or mushy peas which my family had. On the other hand, I ordered the plaice. It was dry, bland, very thin and for some reason was covered in some kind of breadcrumb coating reminiscent of cheap breaded chicken steaks. The small portion of tartare sauce was barely effective in giving it any flavour. Aside from the food, the service wasn't the best either. We were served with regular coke despite asking for diet coke; this could have been quite dangerous if one of us were diabetic. Finally, the cutlery was filthy, as it was on our previous visit. I had to rake around the self-serve cutlery station until I found a fork that didn't have bits of food on it. Perhaps a visit to specsavers for the dishwasher is in order.

Smart, pleasant staff. Good food and coffee. Good kids meals.

Awful service & over priced. I only eat inside because it was still cold, and dark outside, by the time I got to this place. I don't bother with this chippy so much these days and today was reminded why!. The young staff have an attitude, were miserable, unsmiling with a demonic stare! seemed to object to me being by myself...I felt really uncomfortable to the point where I could not finish my over-priced meal. I would have to be desperate to visit this place again. Wish the legendary Colmans chippy was nearer.

Good restaurant with diverse food options; sit-in or take away. Great Ciciarelli ice cream parlour which also sells dog icecreams.

Price versus quality just didn't add up. I found the service slow, and staff uninterested. Food quality just not good enough for premium price.

I hear so many good reviews about this place but I thought it was awful, chips were tasteless and even though they might have been frozen and as for the fish well for £12 I expect something a bit better, expensive rubbish won't be back when better chippys near by.

Great place, location and food!

3 stars for food would be fair, but reduced to 2 because of the high price, and therefore raised expectation. Was ok. Large portions. Not the best. Hard batter, soft chips. Would not go again.

Coastline special as usual very good. Waiting on staff as always very pleasant but service today was painfully slow. Sat at least half an hour ( after a long wait in the queue) before our order was taken then another long wait for food. Whilst we were waiting we noticed lots of empty table and a very long queue. Not the staffs fault at all. The staff on duty worked really hard and were rushed off their feet. They were just very very understaffed on what they should have known would be a busy day. Management you need to do better.

Really really nice. Great food at very reasonable prices The atmosphere was great The service was speedy The only very minor grumble was that some of the waiting staff were extremely quietly spoken. But they were all lovely and helpful. With our rather large and rawkus party of Blyth Sands Runners.

Can't say I was impressed with the whole experience. Food was quite expensive (over £15 for fish and chips, mushy peas and a tiny bread roll) fish quite big but not many chips. It tasted ok but nothing spectacular - there are so many decent chippys in the area to choose from now... Where it was really let down was the service. Young inexperienced service staff, make you pay first even though it's restaurant style service, not particularly friendly or knowledgeable. We were also hard pressed to find any clean cutlery in the box.

The only thing stopping me giving this top marks is the prices. £12 fish and chips is a little much. Staff are always nice and food is good.

Enormous fish and really tasty chips with good friendly service. What is not to love? Car park adjacent and disabled access on the seaside with kiddies play park and dog walking all available.

The best F n C in the north east

It's a few years since we have been to Coastline. It has had a fabulous upgrade. Love the individual booths. The restaurant was clean, the staff friendly and helpful. The portion of fish and chips was large, and well presented plus a small tub of tartar sauce was nice. The meal was reasonably priced for restaurant service. Will definitely go back to this restaurant when visiting the area.

Located on the Blyth coast and a little south of Blyth itself. It is a well known cafe with a good reputation. The food is always good. Ice cream and coffee are both excellent. A lot of close by free parking and general access is good. We often walk here from the south end of Blyth beach, have a coffee and back again.

Maybe the first couple of things that spring to mind when thinking about what you had to eat at the seaside as a kid would be chips from the chippy and ice cream. This place is very good at both, although I’ve never had both in the same sitting! It doesn’t need to be the height of summer to eat this ice cream, but if it is summer you can sit outside to eat it. You can also eat inside and the staff are very friendly and helpful, service is quick and with a smile. There are other main meals on the menu and it also has a licence to serve alcohol, but to be honest I couldn’t see past cod chips and peas with a cup of tea so I can’t tell you much about the other options!

Gorgeous ice creams, so many choices to choose from, parking right outside, also serves coffee’s and fish and chips. Close to the beach front as-well for nice walks.

A great fish restaurant awaits you here. Brilliantly situated on the front at Blyth next to a few other places to eat and drink, quite an up and coming spot in Blyth with the area expanding and improving constantly, although this restaurant has been here long before the other new places around about. The new places have invested in this area due to the success of Coastline in my opinion. Our cod and chips with mushy peas was hard to fault, lovely fresh , white fish and great chips.....lovely waiting on staff who are most polite add to the great experience here.....well done to the staff, we will be back...

We had come in for 20 minutes on a school trip and the staff were really rude to us. We couldn't order meals as we didn't have long so opted to share a hot chocolate as it was very expensive and we don't have income. We were very polite and I can understand if they have something against groups of children but we are good students. They came up to us three times while waiting to get our drink and when it did coke two of them ganged up on us telling us we had to buy seperate things. Instead of giving us recommendations they put us on the spot, one ordering one of the rasberry cup drinks for 50p which I know is about 5 for a £1 and a shortbread. As the shortbread arrived it was messily cut and skimped on toppings. Definitely not service with a smile.

Have being going here for years and the fish and chips have always been lovely , we have takeout . However the last couple of times the chips have been terrible ,they are half the thickness and consequently the chips are really dry and hard along with lots of inedible "bits" of chips , what have you done to them ! ? ! Even though the fish is lovely i don't know if we would go back as they are a treat , they are not cheap , and a portion of near inedible chips is really disappointing especially after years of going there !

We waited for about 10 mins in queue ,its a bit tight for wheelchair access but we got in eventually, i had spam fritter and chips with curry sauce the spam was fins but chips very light colour ,my partner had pie(steak & kidney) and chips she left half of it nearly choking halfway through the pie said the pie was rotten ,mother in law got corned beef patty and chips she said the patty was amazing . Staff seemed busy and polite ....ive never been here for ages but would i rush back probs not ,harbour view down road much better but thats just my opinion

Very disappointed with the lady's response when my father asked for an additional tea bag as he likes his tea really strong. "Sorry we can't do that you would need to order an additional cup" There was a real ackward silence of disbelief. Before we said just leave it as is. An extra teabag should never be a problem when requested. What is it like 5p or something. I've asked this many times in other places such as Colmans in South Shields (far superior service and product to be fair) and it's always met with "of course not a problem at all" not with a grimace like the lady had when requested here. I won't be back.

We were made very welcome by delightful staff. The food was exceptional and very good value for the reasonable cost. Finding tables for 8 was no trouble and the whole meal was splendid.

On a rainy Sunday drive up the coast stumbled upon the Coastline Fish and Chips restaurant. I had been before many years ago but noticed the extension straight away. They had a separate takeaway shop built onto the restaurant but still within the main building. Opted to sit in due to the weather, had it been a nice day there is plenty of seating outside. We were greeted by a friendly young man who opened the door for us, a nice touch, but on such a miserable day maybe utilised elsewhere. Had a concierge desk out front, again a nice touch and we were taken to a booth seat in no time. Quite busy for a Sunday lunchtime, and the place was not noisy, but just the right side of busy hustle. We were given menus and upon inspection the prices were a bit on the high side for fish and chips, however the quaint dining experience, table service, attentive staff, quick service is what you pay for. Didn’t see the takeaway prices but maybe a cheaper option. We opted for pie and chips and we were not disappointed, well filled pies, flaky pastry and just the right amount of chips and not at greasy. Having spoke with the staff I found out this restaurant has been in the same family for many many years, and the families mother of 80 years still works here to this day. A great take on an American/Italian diner with all the touches Fantastic

Chips were tasteless and almost stale. The batter on the fish was foul, to the point I vomited shortly after. We also visited with some friends in wheelchairs and the staff acted as though this was a big issue as we had to move chairs to fit their wheelchairs in. I also witnessed another few wheelchair users being spoke to awfully. Won’t be back.
