The Badger in Northumberland

Food was okay apart from the starters. One chicken skewer with 3 lumps of chicken on seemed a bit tight for one starter. My Liver Pate had 3 massive slices of bread and the finest sliver of pate to go with it. Had no pate left to go with most part of the bread left. Service was very poor… nobody told us about registering our parking in order to avoid charges upon arrival. Terrible lighting at tables…massive spot lights on the tables, felt like a UFO was about to land on our dinner! Main server was very loud and not very attentive. Asked if we wanted to order drinks when we arrived which we did and then came back to take our food order and asked if we wanted to order drinks again and I said we were still awaiting our first order of drinks…probably waited close to 15 minutes for our first drinks to arrive and this was at 6pm, not busy… I’m rating the service poor as tbf I could have gone to any local hungry horse and had the same service, for some reason I thought this may have been better. Nothing out of the ordinary here. Poor service and stingy, uninspiring menu. Not worth the money or leaving the house for.

We booked the conservatory at The Badger for a 90th birthday celebration. The room was lovely and ideal for a big family get-together. The buffet was good and staff were friendly and helpful throughout. Recommended.

Disappointed with the staff/pub for not highlighting that parking within the pub car park comes with a £60 penalty if your vehicle isn't registered inside the pub. With a poorly lit car park, the signage isn't viable and therefore I would expect the pub to highlight that the vehicle needs to be registered. Having a family meal with multiple vehicles parking at the time, we know that at least 2 out of 3 of us have been charged so far. Good way to make some extra cash.

This restaurant is nice for a cozy family dinner and has very friendly staff. Food was nice with fast service for a relatively busy night

Always a lovely meal. All staff especially Paul and David are so welcoming and always look after us. Don’t know why but the food is better here than in the other local pubs that have the same menu. Ten out of ten.

Mixed experience. Milly, our waitress, was fabulous - really friendly and welcoming. Crab fishcakes were fab. Five stars. Sea bass was really good. Four stars. Lamb skewers were cold, overcooked and over-priced. One star. Slaw was awful. One star. Sticky toffee pudding was really good. Four stars. A gorgeous building, had wanted to visit for ages but don't think I'll be returning, based on this experience.

Beautiful pub with fantastic staff! Popped in for a pint & a bite to eat after a busy day around the garden centres & it did not disappoint, my server was david who recommended some lovely food, looked after us perfectly & nothing was to much trouble for him. Love how dog friendly the pub is and they even have dog blankets for customers to use! I wish more pubs were like this

Partner booked a table for my birthday. Had a starter of pâté and the lamb for my main. Both lovely. However we both wanted a dessert with coffee. Staff didn’t come back to ask us. We waited for half an hour with the empty plates and glasses on the table and no drinks. Eventually we paid the bill and left. Was some what disappointed with the level of service.

I popped in for lunch today and the staff for excellent as always, there is nothing they can't do. I choose the Beef Rib Bourguignon today and this was excellent value. I followed on with a chocolate brownie this was served warm which was delicious Thank you all

Been meaning to go for the last 3 years since we moved back home from the Midlands. Firstly the service was outstanding (Dan was highly attentive), nice to have recommendations from the menu, the fish cakes are prefect , light and crispy with a well balanced bed of seasonal vegetables. My wife had the belly pork, which looked lovely. We were then tempted on to the deserts….allotment fruit crumble with custard and Pavlova for my wife. This has been excellent dinning experience, we have missed out! We won’t do that again. See all very soon. Thank you especially to Dan.

I visited the Badger for the first time today, 10th January 2025. Our server was called Dan. Dan was the ultimate professional, he could not do enough for us. I was particularly impressed when I said I would have had a pavlova had the fruit choice been different, immediately he offered me choices, needless to say I enjoyed my pavlova. I would highly recommend the Badger if you are looking for a good quality meal at a fair price. Thanks again Danyou made our experience special.

This was our 1st visit to The Badger, our Server Paul was brilliant, very polite, Service was Prompt, the food was Amazing, sat near the welcoming open fire, we will definately visit again, and recommend The Badger highly !!

Lots missing from the menu. Tiny portions, like a childs portion. Not surprised only 3 people in there. Soggy chicken burger and frozen fish with only 12 chips. Soggy onion rings and greasy burger. Not worth the money wont be back.

We found this place as it was one of the choices from out eat out voucher, we decided to give it a go. 100% worth our 45 minute drive the food was spot on, served quickly and tasted lovely! The lady who served us was Anne, can I just say how amazing her customer service was she was welcoming, polite and very attentive. She genuinely made our experience here lovely and we will definitely return. Thankyou so much all the staff!

The booking of Christmas Day was completely disorganised. The booking system didn’t work online, which meant that we had to go in and pay. One member of the family couldn’t make the deadline so missed Christmas dinner. Only to find out that they could’ve come and paid on the day. Not worth £82 per person. Careless bartender smashed glass that went into my hair and brush past my eyelash.

So so disappointed, been here for food many times, and was looking forward to a lovely Boxing day meal with family. Atmosphere and staff, could not fault. The meal was something else. Spiced parsnip soup was tepid and bland. Roast turkey dinner, well. We had to ask server what was in the dishes, said she wasn't sure, turned out they were carrots and Parsnips, totally black. Took them away and brought more dishes just the same. All in all a dinner disaster.

Celebrated 60th birthday and more people then expected came . Manger was so accommodating and couldn’t have been more helpful and nice . He made the whole celebration one to remember

We had the most amazing Christmas Day lunch at The Badger, and we cannot thank Simon and his incredible team enough for making it so special! The atmosphere was festive and welcoming, the food was absolutely delicious, and the service was second to none. Thank you to Chloe, Anne, and Rose, who looked after us so attentively throughout our meal.

Every year we visit for Christmas Dinner at the Badger. Simon and his fantastic team are always welcoming. We always have a large table which is never any trouble for them, it always goes so smoothly. The food is tremendous and the service is outstanding. Looking forward to another trip next year.

WOW... Partner and I booked for Christmas day lunch, three course plus bottle of red. From walking in to walking out the whole experience was wonderful. I had prawn & salmon to start, partner had Soup, both were plentiful and beautifully presented and tasted great. We both had full Turkey dinner which came with all the trimmings. We had so much veg, enough for 4 or 5, 3 Large slices of succulent turkey, 6 goosefat roast potatoes, stuffing, pigs in blankets, so much bread and cranberry sauce and lots of luscious gravy. Dessert was outstanding orange chocolate bomb and boozy trio of choc puddings... all in all fabulous highly recommend. Big shout out to Marcus and Millie who served us, polite, professional, friendly and so helpful and chatty, we loved every minute. Thankyou.

Excellent service and ambience. Food overpriced and basic. E.g. baked prawn and scallop starter had 4 small prawns and one small scallop the rest white sauce. For £11.50. Main meal prawn skewer with feta salad £18. The prawns were small and you have to peel them yourself. After all that work there were more shells than prawns. I was still hungry. The desert was just ok. I normally don't get to desert but was still hungry.

Food in general good but forgot our puddings and had to tell staff! Mine arrived within 2 minutes of mentioning it but was so hot it had been nuked! They waived puddings off bill 😊

Service was very good but the food was bang average at best. Everything , especially the vegetables, was either under cooked or just about tasteless. I ordered a side of cauliflower cheese and when it came I should have sent it back immediately. We were presented with the most pitiful anaemic looking dish ever. I told the lovely waitress (Ann) that it was awful and thankfully we didn’t pay for it. We would have to be desperate to visit there again.

First time I've eaten here. When I paid the bill the member of staff mentioned they had had a very busy day, which confirmed my suspicions as there were a few small issues with my food. l ordered the salmon and prawn cocktail as a starter. The few prawns and too much lettuce tasted icy cold, as if they'd just been taken out of the fridge. The dish wasn't seasoned and there was no visible sauce over the prawns. When I mentioned the lack of sauce the waiter brought me some in a small pot, so am not sure whether it's normally served with a seperate pot of sauce that had just been missed off the plate. Maybe. Otherwise I'm not sure why a prawn cocktail would be served without sauce or seasoning. My main course was a vegetarian Wellington. The Wellington, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and carrots were very tasty, and hot. Unfortunately the parsnip, far too many sprouts and gravy, although all tasted nice, were cold . They must have been dished out too early whilst waiting for the rest of the meal. I must admit I didn't bring to staff attention that some of my food was cold. I'd had to ask for extra cutlery in order to eat my main course as none was brought after the starters were cleared away and I didn't want to get up off my seat again. I really enjoyed what I ate and had sufficient food anyway as the portion size was huge. The staff were very friendly and polite and I'm sure the issues I had were a reflection of a very busy and perhaps understaffed kitchen which is often the case with hospitality. I enjoyed my visit and it certainly didn't put me off eating at The Badger again. I thought it had a very welcoming atmosphere.

I hired the conservatory room at the rear of the pub last night for a birthday celebration. Dan was very helpful and and made my night stress free. Had Sunday lunch before flying out on holiday early tomorrow morning. We wanted a cozy pub with gorgeous food. Anne is the nicest, and the food ia good. Thank you to Anne and the lovely staff at The Badger.

Had a fabulous Christmas party meal at the lovely Badger for 28 people. Food was gorgeous and generous and the staff were outstanding. Alex was exceptional and made sure everything and everyone was OK. All the staff were amazing and made our meal a joy occasion. A few Christmas Carol's at the end and it finished a perfect evening. Would definitely recommend. It's the 2nd year we've been and we plan to go back again next Year.

I visited The Badger for a Saturday midday meal with my wife for a quick birthday meal while the kids were being looked after, and I was pleased with the experience overall. The food was mostly delicious and well-presented, with the Ham Hock And Cheese Pie, served with Carrots, Greens and Spring Onion Mash, being a highlight. The staff were attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting, making it nice for a relaxed meal. The cauliflower soup I had with also delicious. The only area that could use some improvement is the Mini Allotment Crumble could have been better quality, although I was given it for free as the top of my pie was overly brown and hard (even though the rest was fine and tasty) Otherwise, I can at least recommend The Badger to anyone looking for pretty good food and service.

Sat on a half table for three facing a wall. Not a great table, and wasnt busy so no reason to sit us there, the food was great as always and we were served by Alex who was great. He was very helpful and polite.

I usually go here and get a black Russian however this time I was told by Dan the assistant manager they don't do them and that the bar staff should not be serving them, highly disappointed for something so simple

Edited to update: Although we were very unhappy on our visit, follow up has been exemplary and prompt. Hopefully our next visit will be better. Thank you. Disappointing visit today. We arrived for our 12:30 reservation and were seated by 12:35. We eventually were able to place our food order about thirty minutes later. We finally caught the waiter's attention after 45 minutes to enquire as to the whereabouts of our food, at which point it came out from the kitchen. The side plates we were given to use were chilly to the touch and the Belgian Frites were stone cold, we returned these and piping hot replacements were served. The server enquired as to whether we were happy with our food and my aunt replied that her French fries were unpleasant as they were not fully cooked (I had tried one and while they were hot, they were hard in the centre and definitely undercooked) rather than apologising or offering to sort the issue, the server flounced off, never to be seen again. Our previous visit was lovely, but this is not the first time we have had issues at The Badger, but it will definitely be the last.
