The Wheatsheaf Inn in Wirral

Called in by chance mid week, enjoyed the meal so much we booked again for Saturday evening. Only criticism was the starter was cool in the middle and the new potatoes were cold with the main. Having said this, a good find will be back.

Excellent Sunday dinner, highly recommend

You would never know it's there as it hides in a little lane off Raby Mere Rd. But it's well worth finding. It's a lovely old thatched house that was built in 1611 according to the brick over the doorway. The interior looks very original and can't have changed much since it was built. There's a big old fireplace that's great in the Winter. Good selection of beers and real ales. Service was very good and quick.

I called here yesterday with my friend for lunch. Staff were very helpful however I was very disappointed with my meal. I ordered roast chicken skinny fries and coleslaw. I asked if I could have mashed potato instead and advised this would be no problem. When my meal arrived it need gravy which I asked for, this meal cost £13.50 ish or do I thought . I settled the bill after payment I realised I’d been charged £2.90 for gravy !! Disappointing not sure I would go again for this type of food as it was quite expensive for what I got.

Food and choice is excellent however a 10% service charge is added. Personally I don't think this is the correct approach. Most places ask if you would like to add a tip which means the value of that tip is your choice.

Another lovely meal and drinks today. Staff very attentive. Great to see the pub busy on a Wednesday lunchtime. Highly recommended. Will be going back soon.

This is a beautiful thatched pub that has been there since 1611. The service and food are really good, and they always have a good selection of real ales as well as other beers/lagers. Dogs are welcome too.

We moved to the area in late 2023 and have been back here loads already. We really like the selection of beers, the food is excellent and the service is spot on. It’s such a beautiful place and has a great atmosphere. We even went to their monthly quiz and had a great time. It’s a cracking local to have.

Fantastic pub ,very friendly , real homely feel , great service , couldn't fault this pub , spotlessly clean , we attended today 18th January 2024 to celebrate my uncle Ian's life , thankyou to all staff , we had a great catch-up with family x x

Popped in here purely on spec and was thoroughly impressed. The service was so friendly and efficient. The atmosphere was great and very welcoming. We had the lamb scotch egg / fig & parma ham to start and then we both had the Xmas turkey dinner and split an apple and strawberry crumble for dessert. The food was plentiful and delicious and good value. Should we find ourselves back in the area, we'd come back in a heartbeat!

Wonderful old pub/restaurant serving super food.

First vist 15th December 2023. Undoubtedly one of the best dining experiences I've had anywhere and I've been to many . An exciting menu, excellent beer and exemplary service from lovely staff. The pub and cowshed are delightful . A total treat not to be missed. What a gem.

It's a quirky little place where they've converted a cow shed ( we were in the adjoining restaurant not the pub) The food was pretty good and service was attentive. Its quite hard to find especially in the dark!

Lovely country pub. Relatively small although it extends out into multiple rooms through to a more restaurant type space at the back. Food was good, beef Sunday roast especially was generous and well cooked (although came with steamed/boiled veg).

First time I have been here and it won't be the last. An old fashioned pub inside, friendly staff and great food.

Wonderfully warm welcome, delicious food, tranquil yet vibrant atmosphere served by cheery staff.

Had a lovely vegan nut roast and fruit crumble pudding. Husband had a tasty beef burger and nephew had a bbq vegan burger followed by chocolate brownie. All very enjoyable! Dog friendly the dog enjoyed his sausage dinner!

Lovely dining space in the cowshed but wasn't impressed at all with the quality or effort that went into the Sunday roasts. Beef was mostly fat and turkey served without usual trimmings. Also got overcharged by about a tenner.

A lovely little pub. We went to a reception here. Food was great and staff very good and attentive.

Staff as ever were lovely however food ordered by the group was tepid. One person in the group asked for her food to be heated up. Staff responded so well and apologised and rectified. However we felt uncomfortable complaining about other items also being tepid in temperature.

Great food lovely helpful staff food was scummy. I will be back.

A nice country pub with a welcome atmosphere and good food.

All I can say is absolutely amazing, we went a couple of months ago and thought it may have been a fluke that it was so nice but nope, it wasn't. We went again last week, gorgeous hot food, large portions and so fresh and tasty. We plan to go back again this week... this place will certainly not be helpful to my diet haha. Thanks guys keep up the great work, love the place 👍

Best pub on the Wirral by a country mile. If you’re after character and a ‘traditional’ pub experience whilst in the Wirral this is your best bet.

We didn't eat.....just stopped for a cheeky vino ... all staff friendly 😊😊😊

Customer service is fantastic. Friendly, polite, welcoming restaurant staff.

Stopped off here after a dog walk for a drink. Service was very prompt and attentive to us, but also, our dog, getting him a bowl of water straight away. A proper country pub, no tv's here, and proper real ales.

Very dissapointed indeed that I want to reserve a table outside for my family birthday and bring our family doggie...only to he told no ...the gentleman said its highly unusual not to get a table but why is not possible to be able then to save one so we are able to be assured our birthday celebration goes with no problems ...being in the catering business for many years I find this extremely odd .. .customer service is the most important factor of trying to help your customers as much as possible but this pub obviously doesn't need customers or willing to accommodate 10 members of our family who would have enjoyed such a lovely place .I'm sure another pub will greet us with the respect needed for our special occasion and be happy to receive our custom.

The lunch menu is great and very high quality especially the club Sandwich or their toasties. I have been many times and the quality is still fantastic!! The staff are very helpful and friendly. 👍

A perfect pub lunch on a sunny afternoon in a beer garden. If you want good portion size... This is the place to come! I highly recommend the steak and onion marmalade ciabatta!

What an absolute GEM of a find this was. Everything a country pub should be. Homely, cosy, warm and friendly staff. And food is TOP knotch. Ive been twice in less than two weeks. I had the paté for starters the second time and that was soooo delicious..and the Chicken Supreme is to die for too.. if i could give 10 stars i would...

Historic beautiful pub,with the most obnoxious arrogant manager Food mediocre Head to the The Red fox ,which has the best atmosphere and beautiful food.

Prawn cocktail served on a plate (I think the word "cocktail" should tell them it should be in a glass!) Lettuce was not chopped, no slice of lemon and no tomato. Also they had put pepper/spice on the prawns!. Roast dinner (this was a Sunday) only meats available where beef (very chewy ) and lamb (we were there quite early so it wasn't that they had run out of turkey/chicken). Every thing was piled up in the middle of the plate and looked a mess. Used to love going there but won't be going anymore. Will be going to the Boathouse Parkgate from now on, about the same price but much better food and excellent service.

Poor management by manager upvoting his performance skills and deleting user's rights to make a view disgusting behavior towords customers and disabled people calling their home and opening their wallet if left behind and poor services like food thats cold and floor is wet from cleaning toilets swearing at customer across the bar deleted review by his hacker.

Was more like a dog boarding kennels than a pub... Dog's everywhere, fighting in front of the bar...laid on seats..... Only had 1 drink.. needed to get out and find somewhere I could breath.

The fish finger sandwich was rubbish, there was about 80% batter and 20% fish and the bread was all ripped up.

10/10 Home away from home except they actually cook good food and have a fresh beer on tap. The pizzas are AMAZING !!!

Another lovely meal here, the young lady that served us, had a lovely bubbly personality and made our night that little bit more enjoyable.

My wife did phone to check availability and we were pleased there were places available. What a little gem to find, like the Tardis it is much bigger on the inside than it looks from outside. The staff are very fiendly, efficient and accomodating. An interesting menu for all tastes. Settled for the Fishermans Sharing Platter, plenty for two as a light lunch. A nice selection of seafood, cooked to perfection and very well presented. Very pleasant surroundings and quite busy for mid-week, service was excellent and attentive but not obtrusive. We hope they do well over the Christmas period and beyond. We will return ! Loved it.

A walking group of about 30 of us attended for our Xmas get together. Our choice of food ranged from toasted sandwiches to 3 course Xmas dinner. All food was good and the staff very attentive. The only criticism we had was that the car park was like an ice skating ring. I believe the management have a duty of care to their customers. A couple of bags of grit,/ salt would not cost much.

The cider choice has fallen to thatchers gold, the food was excellent, two small bites filled us for the day. Black pudding salad was interesting

Lovely little traditional pub serving food. The menu was varied with a good selection of dishes on offer. I booked a table a few days in advance and when we arrived we where led to a table. It was busy when we arrived, the staff who served us where chatty and friendly. Our food was well prepared and tasted great, only issue was I had no space for dessert. I'd definitely make a return visit, there was a decent sized outdoor area, that I imagine would be lovely to sit in during the summertime.

Visited for Sunday lunch staff were attentive atmosphere was welcoming. But sadly the food was awful beef was tough and inedible, vegetables were tasteless and over cooked, vegetarian Wellington was dry and tasteless. Roast potatoes were dry and stale with no seasoning. Did not enjoy our meals will not be returning.

Had my Dads 90th birthday family meal here recently and staff were great and we all enjoyed our food - sat in the Cowshed.

Sunday afternoon, busy as usual.

We had a Sunday lunch recently, (we've been several times) and yet again the service, food quality and ambience was marvellous. The best part of the restaurant section is in the old cow barn, with great big high ceilings and real character to it. Plenty of parking.
