The James Atherton in Wirral

Just want to say a massive thank you!! From managers, Sue, seb & Nathan & cool schlatt loving barman Jack.. had my daughters 18th at Rockpoint then on to the function room above the James Atherton. Really laid back feel & great atmosphere allowing friend & family to have a great time. Own entrance to club & with Leo & Simon on security everyone felt safe so no gatecrashers. Had to arrange it at very short notice & nothing was too much trouble, allowing us to make a party really personal for my girl. You were all fantastic… ❤️ Oh & the woodfired Pizza’s are to kill for!

The two woman who work around 4pm on a thursdsay are both lovely towards me and my wife thank you

Only came in for a drink. Bar tender in shift was quaint and lovely. Beer good and cozy area with books. Would definitely come here again

Came in to watch the football tonight, as always think the JA is a good pub. Unfortunately tonight, there were countless people vaping all through the night, with bar staff doing nothing to address the situation. I must have counted at least 8 people in the back portion of the pub alone, and the air was think with the vapour. This seems to be a thing that some pubs allow people to get away with, even though it's against the law. Needs to be stamped out.

Popped in here last night for a couple of drinks whilst just visiting New Brighton & I ended up doing the pub quiz with a married couple I got chatting to, 3 beers later we came 4th...Great night

Pleasant traditional pub with a few decent real ales. Friendly staff, light and airy. Good place to chill and read a book.

Traditional place for a drink with friends. Great service, parking was an issue due to one-way system but hidden carpark on left at bottom of road

Beautiful pub and rob with tattoos was amazing with my daughter, would deffo recommend, also the jade behind the bar with the tattoos aswell was amazing, amazing customer service!!!

Nice big pub in New brighton decent pint of brimstone trappers hat. 2 other real ales on,Ossett white rat and Hawkshead. Nice burrito,provided from a local takeaway I presume.

Always enjoy my time at the James Atherton. Staff are always welcoming and polite. Drinks are reasonable price for how nice the pub is. Enjoy to watch the football here and the odd Saturday night. Here’s a photo of my friend getting a picture with BT Manager of the month which the manager of JA won. Congratulations Ben on winning this award!

Went for a pint before a concert. Always busy and noisy with people talking tvs on but silent. Ample benches for sitting out if nice 👍

A great community pub,great friendly staff and reasonable prices. A recent total refurbishment gives it a very modern and comfortable atmosphere while still in keeping of a traditional public house. By far the best pub in New Brighton

Such a friendly, bustling and vibrant bar. The staff are friendly and helpful and the selection of craft beers on offer is excellent. The pub is dog friendly and there are plenty of seating options around the pub.

Lovely old-fashioned pub with a homely atmosphere. Bathrooms are surprisingly immaculate too. Absolutely loved the new rebrand (but not the pictured 3 b*****s whose names will be left unmentioned for they're unmentionable). Will definitely be back next time I'm in Merseyside.

Great pub good atmosphere friendly staff.

Always great, friendly service with a real community feel to this New Brighton pub. Whether the staff, the owner, or the security team, you will always be welcome and safe. Split over two floors, the ground has plenty of natural light with seating for around 80 people with standing for another 80+. The ground floor has a long bar, split into a front and rear area, which means you can always get served. The rear bar area has a raised area that will sit two groups of people of around 10 each. Upstairs is great to rent out for functions- I've been to many birthdays, funerals and business events. Dog friendly, too, with bowls, water and biscuits provided for all customers' dogs. Whilst more expensive than most pubs in New Brighton, it is worth paying the extra. Located halfway down Victoria Road, it is usually easy to find a parking spec. Visitors travelling into New Brighton can easily access The Jsmes Atherton via public transport, with trains coming into New Brighton Station, with The JA a short walk down the road from the station. Buses also travel nearby to New Brighton promenade.

Very Strange Very Wary Place Few Druggies

New Brighton is trying. Like a lot of the coastline here stretching into North Wales, Rhyl, Prestatyn etc, this once thriving seaside resort has gone through hard times, in part because the bought the cheap day trip beer / fish & chips economy . when people tired of that and found EasyJet they went into a bottom chasing decline. Recently, they’re trying to revitalise and the road, where this pub is one of several, is an example of that with interesting murals, real ale offerings and decent food. This is a good example. the outside looks a bit gloomy but it’s quite lovely inside and the friendly staff make it a little more comfortable. Worth looking for.

Good location in Central New Brighton. Well positioned outdoor seating in the sun. Interesting art work to look at on the nearby buildings. Efficient and friendly staff.

A decent place to get a pint and to watch sportsball. There's several TVs and plenty of room on the tables for larger groups. A good selection of local brews, and the staff are legends.

Great pub, great friendly staff. Serves lunch, tasty real ales that are always well kept. It has varied live entertainment on some nights of the week. A great friendly local pub that is very welcoming for visitors.

Did a bit of shopping in New Brighton and wanted somewhere to go for a bite to eat. Came across this pub and so glad we did. Lovely cosy pub, spotlessly clean with a warm fire. A Basic menu, just paninis and wraps etc. But food was very nice, well presented, and less than a fiver! Win win. The guy who owns the pub also owns a few other business in the town, and has spent a fair bit of money doing places up, and you can tell looks up and coming. Would like to go back on a summers day, and when we are not driving.

No consideration for the people living adjacent and in the residential area. This bar should not have a 1 a.m licence. New Brighton is ruined by all these over pretentious bars.
