Went for food with friends and used to come here loads. We visited on a Friday night and the pub was lovely and welcoming but when we ordered the food we was told they had run out of chips, fries and sweet potato so we ordered burgers anyway but then was told that they had run out of them too. Most of the menu was sold out so we finished drinks and went elsewhere The real eye opener was there was a staff member behind the bar holding a baby while serving people which seemd to be the norm cos no one said anything I don't think we will come it's not what it once was which is a shame cos it has great potential to be amazing but stocking food is surely something that needed for a busy Friday night Terrible

It was 11 pm and the children were running everywhere around people drinking the parents were drunk themselves and doing nothing the little girl spilt my wine by running into me I can not believe this establishment let’s children run around at that time especially with people drinking all the time the safety Of the children was my concern and my wife had to make sure the little girl was ok for a few minutes because the parents were arguing out side the pub shocking that the pub lets this happen

What a lovely pub....... The fire was burning, dogs and friendly villagers. The food was delicious, my friends had a huge burger n thick as a brick chips. I'm vegan so I thought I was just gonna throw chips n salad together but they had vegan sausage, mash and perfectly cooked broccoli. Very delighted 😀 reminded me of a middle of nowhere pub. Would definitely go back and recommend.

We stayed here through Brit Stops in our motorhome and were not disappointed. We got a warm welcome when we arrived and nothing was too much trouble. We visited on a Sunday and booked in for Sunday roast, both of us having the beef which was tender and full of flavour. The roast potatoes and vegetables were all cooked well and tasty. Brilliant place to stop as it’s only about a mile from the A1, we shall certainly use again if w3 are travelling this way.

Fortunately a few miles from the A1 so lovely and quiet. Very welcoming hosts. Great food and lovely beers. Recommend the fully loaded beef burger and the pizzas. Nice to sit out the front of the pub and look at the crooked steeple of the church opposite. Pricing is very competitive. Would definitely visit again if in the area.

We visited this lovely village pub on a Saturday afternoon. We were offered the food menu as we were hungry and there was a great choice to choose from including vegan choices. We went for the fish baguette with skinny fries and salad. After ordering we played darts which was great, there is also a snooker table but unfortunately our food was ready. I can’t recommend the food highly enough, it was all freshly cooked and the presentation was great. I imagine it’s very cosy on a winters evening with the fire and the candles light. We shall definitely return.

Second time of eating here. Beer is good, small pub with friendly young staff. Decent menu although they had run out of a few items it didn't really matter. Had fish and chips and burgers followed by the biggest Eton mess! Good fish, decent chips and the dessert was really good. Pub grub yes but good atmosphere looking over the church.

Happened to pass by this little gem of a pub, thought we would stop in and have some lunch and so glad we did. The food was amazing, cooked by a chief called Harry and the barmaid Lettie was lovely, very helpful. Reason I got there names because I think the staff make the place and these two did a superb job. Lovely looking pub, quaint setting which previously served good food. Such a shame. Took an hour for our food to come , vegetables were undercooked and overall disappointing food- most of us left the majority of the meal. Another group's food order was 'lost' - complete mess up. Really need to get their act together - this could and should be a lovely venue for Sunday lunch or pub meal, but at the moment we will not return.

We hadn't been here for years it was good years ago, then we had a bad experience, when in New hands again years ago, I will never return again after tonight s visit, from the moment we walked in, the waiting area looked poor logs for the log burner stored under the seating area, one other couple having a drink on a Saturday night, we were meeting friends and we were a little early, the only other couple we were making conversation with got chatting about how many nice places to eat in the area, then said your not eating here are you the didn't recommend it, wish we cancelled out booking then, but give it a go your never know, don't bother driving out very disappointing such a shame lovely location, but it's a small village you need to impress straight away to get people out to it, terrible hollow fish it was mainly better long weight fo our order, my husbands pie was dry very young staff i felt it for them it wasn't any fault of the very young waitresses, sorry to say never again we have a lot of nice places to eat in a radius.

I’m always a bit negative to places where you go to eat and it’s empty of diners and to be honest after this visit to the Wheatsheaf I will remain so. We had pre-booked but probably didn’t have to as the restaurant was empty when we arrived. Service was ok and quite friendly. Food was mediocre. We started by asking for The roast beef to be rare but this wasn’t possible as it all “comes one way”. I had chicken. A bit dry and one bit was rock hard. I’ve had better. Overall not the best Sunday lunch and the lack of diners on Easter Sunday perhaps indicates the status of the food offer. I won’t be rushing back. One other odd thing was a very limited wine list with no prices.

Having arrived for our meal at 7.30 we were told to sit anywhere and were quite shocked that on a Saturday night the restaurant was empty. We ordered starters of potato skins and my son had nachos well what can i say , the potato skins turned up in what could only be described as an ashtray . The nachos were okay but the wait for our starters was too long. For our main courses we ordered burger, and two fish and chips. Well we waited nearly an hour for our main courses only to be very disspointed with the food when it arrived. My husband ate most of the fish and left most of the chips, i ate nothing and my son ate half of his meal. When asked if we enjoyed our meals we replied no only to be told they would fetch the manager who then argued we had eaten our meals, we said no we had not and would not pay for mine. She went away and came back and said they would offer 10% off meal to which we said not good enough. The another chap came out and argued about the meal, when we told him it was rubbish he told us to just go. Bearing in mind we were offering to pay for what we had eaten. I would not recommend anyone eating here because if you are disappointed with the food you will then have to deal with the confrontation.

Having heard that the public house had reopened we decided to give it a go for a family Sunday lunch. On arrival for a 1pm reservation there was only one car in the car park and on entering the restaurant we were advised to sit anywhere you like. The roasts eventually came and the meal was not outstanding with varied amounts of food left on the plates. Then it was on to the sweets, cheese board fine, roulade on a warm plate and apple crumble and custard which was left by two people as the best description would be stewed apple and a nondescript foam.

We went with a Travel zoo voucher having previously had two good meals here. Upon entering there was no one to greet us to the table, we had to wait for menu and drinks. Our food arrived which on the menu was shown as chicken with roasted carrots glazed in honey. After an hour our meal arrived minus the carrots, we sent it back. Half an hour later it arrived, carrots were not roasted! A very mediocre meal. Another party of four had a similar experience very long wait, their starters course offered home made bread, theirs was shop bought. They walked out after over an hour wait for a main course.

Friday night and only three tables used says it all really. Friday night fish special menu very limited and boring. The pork crackling starter was almost impossible to eat they were so tough, then a 15 minute wait for the main course. A £21 fish platter was small, dry, tasteless and supporting relish and fries totally uninspired. A further lengthy wait for a very small pudding, again uninspired. Charging high restaurant prices for indifferent food, small portions and slow service probably explains why there was only three tables in use. The only positive was the waitress was pleasant and helpful, the manager however seems not to understand that tables are not cleared until all have finished eating

My fiance and I had come down to Lincoln for a country break. We visited this lovely pub which we'd heard about from friends, felt like a home from home. A sudden rush of people arrived and the poor waitress was left on her own serving drinks. Having no help the queue got longer and longer, the girl worked as fast as she could but she was in need of an extra pair of hands. Then a young man who I'd seen as a customer having a drink and some food with some friends appeared behind the bar and started serving drinks and taking orders. I later found out that the waitress had been left by another member of staff to deal with serving customers and the young man who jumped behind the bardoes in fact work there but it was his night off. The fact an employee, who was actually not supposed to be working that night, would come to help out the other staff in his own time (and no doubt without getting paid for the work) is a credit to him. It's staff like him that keep small businesses afloat. Well done to him!

Only 5 tables in use but still took ages for order to be taken and food to be served. The waitress looked miserable and only smiled when her shift finished at 10pm. My wife ordered steak - the waitress failed to ask which cut and how she wanted it cooked. My wife asked for fries not thick chips but was served the latter. Another couple left after waiting 30 mins for their desserts. Meaning being polite group we waited and waited for the missing starters to appear eventually they did but unfortunately undercooked. The prawn starter was on warm plates!! Main course again mistakes and delays along with poor service for drinks. We continually had to ask for more drinks eventually decided to just order at the bar. The staff completely overwhelmed and not trained as seemed flustered when asked for wine from the wine list. No water ever came. The desserts well just poor the trifles all runny & not set. Choc puds dry & overcooked. As for the cheese board oh dear not a selection of cheese as advertised but a small solitary piece of cheese with biscuits. Poor Service & Food that left a lot to be desired. It wasn't even a busy night we actually were the 1st to be seated in the cold restaurant. Will not be returning so many better places in the surrounding area. The Management need to look at the team & train them all. Poor visit will not recommend. 2nd visit here last weekend after not being very impressed the 1st time we thought we would give it a try again but was really unimpressed with value for money on a £200 spend. My husband and I had the curry (which was overcharged for on a Friday) and it was really disappointing (popadum was full of oil, rice was chewy, nann bought in and the curry had NO flavour and was overlooked) and my children had the pizza which was a ciabatta piece sliced with a bit of cheese and sliced tomato.... the chef is not viewing it's kids meals through the eyes of a child. They ate none of it. Service wasn't very tentative and we only were offered a second drink when the kids were on dessert despite all having empty glasses. Having heard that the wheatsheaf was now owned by the same owners of the boathouse at farndon we had high hopes of a lovely meal and nice night out. Booked a table for 7.45pm and promptly arrived to be ingnored and overlooked by the bar staff for a good 5 minutes. When eventually served the bar tender asked if I wanted a 'small, medium or large wine Darlin'. After being served we were given menu's and told to wait in the bar and wait we did - after 20 minutes we were told it would be another 10 minutes or so and then someone would take our order. With a lack of ambience, poor bar service and a pretty miserable introduction we had little appetite to stay any longer so politely advised that we no longer wanted to stay. And the price for the privilege of rubbish/slow service 1 pint of beer and a glass of white wine £12.30. Have never been so ripped off before and will never be going back.

Went for lunch with my wife on our anniversary, having decided to try somewhere we hadn't been before, and were not disappointed. Being a Wednesday afternoon following a bank holiday, it was very quiet. The manager, Sam, offered to open up the restaurant area for us, but as there were no other customers we were happy to sit in the bar area. The pub being very quiet was actually quite pleasant, and we enjoyed chatting to Sam and hearing his stories about a former landlord said to haunt the place. Apparently he doesn't like people reading in "his" pub, and your beer is likely to end up in your lap if you do! (the ghost landlord's doing, not Sams). For starters we had Thai fish cakes, very tasty, and mushrooms on toast which my wife enjoyed. We both had fish and chips for our main course. Again, very enjoyable, well cooked with a nice, not too heavy batter on the fish. Portion size was generous, so had to skip dessert-too full!I'm not an ale drinker, but there seemed to be a good range of award winning beers, and for the G&T brigade, a large selection of gins. Enjoyed our surroundings-- a lovely old pub with lots of charm. Would be happy to go again.

We visited tonight for a meal at 8pm, the restaurant section was quiet. In fact we were the only ones in the back room until a other couple joined later.I ordered the 5 spiced belly pork and the wife had fish & chips. The "crackling" on the belly pork was soggy it was if it the pork had just been warmed up in the micro wave oven. The portion was small and not much five spice on it. The stir fried vegetables were mainly onions and the charred pak choi not up to much! A poor plate of food all round.Moving on to my partners fish and chips, the actual fish was nice but the batter on the dark side (indicating the oil could do with a change). The mushy peas were bland but the chips were good.On the plus side the staff were friendly but overall a poor meal for a gastro pub.Incidentally one person on the next table complained about their main meal also.We won't be returning or recommending this place to our friends. You need to up your game if you want customers to return!

Lovely old pub with very friendly staff and very good food. There was plenty of choice on the menu and the food arrived in a timely manner and was very well cooked. There is a good range of real ale.

Booked for 6.15pm on a Friday evening , sat down inthe restaurant and found to be the only ones eating . Ordered at 6.20pm.So we order for starters (once we asked about what curries were on that evening and the waitress had to go & ask so clearly does not know the menu she is giving out)1 x pate1x mushrooms1 x garlic bread We waited and we waited and eventually at 6.55pm the mushrooms arrived followed by the pate and no bread and butter as per the menu for the pate....some 10 minutes later we saw the waitress on her phone and allowed her to finish her call to say i had no bread and butter with the pate and by then my other half had finished their mushrooms .Instead miraculously the garlic bread arrived ( still no bread and butter) but as my other half was finished and i had not even started.Losing the will to live and could hardly believe in 50 mins alone 3 easy starters would take so long , no other guests dining , half the order was missing we decided to give the main course a miss as at that rate i would be having that for breakfast! We came in as a couple and decided to sit and eat together and if we wanted our meals seperate then we would of sat at opposite ends of the restaurant besides even at 7pm there were plenty of spaces to choose from ....after a long week i prefer to sit in comfort and spend time with my other half and that's including eating at the same times !All in all the most terrible, shambolic , disorganised evening by far and god help them if they had a rush on and even taking a loo break at 6.45pm the chef was in the bar chatting to th other staff so no wonder we had no food!! The waitress really needs to get herself sorted out and know what she is offering out on a menu instead of chatting to her mates maybe?Would never return to be honest esp if extremely hungry because it could be hell of a wait !

We visited the wheatsheaf in July on a Sunday afternoon and it was an actual sunny day which meant that we could sit in the garden at the back next to the play area. Perfect location for drinks with friends and watching the kids play. We asked for the menu and went to order at the bar. There was a bit of a queue and when we got to the front we realised we had used the wrong side of the menu. On Sunday you can only use a certain side of the menu and we were unaware of that. We were asked to come back in 20 minutes to order as the kitchen was overwhelmed with orders. I've never encountered this before and asked if we couldn't simply order, take our drinks and then they submit the order to the kitchen when they are ready? We had to really push to do it this way as otherwise we would have had to go somewhere else. In the end they agreed and we left the order with them. The food came about 50 minutes after ordering, which, for some fries, fishcakes and a baked camembert seemed a bit long, however, we were having drinks in the garden and the kids were playing so it wasn't too much of a chore. One part of the order was incorrect and we asked if, instead of waiting on the original order, we could just have some bread and butter for the kids. these came 45 minutes later. I shared the camembert and it was delicious. The fries were crispy and the food was overal lovely. I would definitely come back but perhaps on a different day without children when it's easier to wait for your food longer without having to deal with cranky kids. The staff, despite being a bit overwhelmed, were lovely and friendly but they could have definitely done with a few extra hands, especially as it was a busy Sunday lunch.I'm going to leave a better review for the service based purely on the friendly staff and i'm going to ignore the long food wait as it didn't ruin our visit or anything.

Two of our friends booked a meal at this pub. We were shown to a table in the main area, but there was a large party including children. We asked to be moved and relocated to another room overlooking the rear garden. Behind the table was a long sideboard unit which the staff had to keep going to for cutlery and table cloths etc. I was seated nearest the double doors which allowed access to the garden. Unfortunately there was a fire extinguisher on the wall and we had to move the table out to enable me sufficient room to sit comfortably. Moving the table restricted access to the sideboard. Unfortunately there was not one chicken dish on the menu which is the first time we have ever come across this before. When mentioned to a member of staff, she was unaware of this, but she added sometimes we have chicken curry on but not tonight. The food was satisfactory but mine could have been hotter Drinks were ok and not over expensive. The resticted menu and experience of dining there has made us cross it off our list as one to return to.

Came for lunch on Friday , the food was very good but the service was poor . We had to ask twice for a menu while the lad behind the bar was on his phone . (We were the only ones in there at the time so it wasn't as if he was rushed off his feet .) then had to ask for the bill twice while yet again the lad was on his phone !

Visiting a friend we were looking for a place to eat on Sunday evening. We did reserve the restaurant, but not many people were there. The food was superb. Pure honest pub grub. I would recommend the Sunday roast. Portions left me too full up for pudding. Staff were very pleasant and it was a little gem of a find.

A group of 9 of us had dinner at the Wheatsheaf last week. The pub was nice and quiet, our table was in a nice corner. The menu was extensive. I chose sirloin steak - it came as ordered, medium rare, it was delicious. The béarnaise sauce and chips were sumptuous. For dessert I ordered a chocolate fondant. This was cooked to perfection and was very good. It was the first time that I visited this pub as we've recently moved into this area, I will definitely go again. Service was also very pleasant and efficient.

This was our nearest local (although there are about 4 more within 2 1/2 miles) pub and we were very happy with it. The outlook from the outside tables (over church grounds and open space) is great. Iside is warm and comfortable, friendly hosts and good food bring it all together. Far cheaper than Australian equivalent

We have been to the Wheatsheaf Inn on many occasions over the past 20 years since moving into the area. We 'save' it for special occasions to stop it being 'the norm'. Because of ill health and other reasons we hadn't been for about three years. So, with a little trepidation, accompanied by another couple, we returned following a change of ownership. Any little fears we had were instantly dispelled with the warm welcome. The range of real ales was good. We visited, by accident Fathers Day, and there was a set menu, not a problem, the choices were exceptional. The four of us had a most wonderful meal. Our friends, visiting for the first time, were most impressed and we were pleased that the highest of culinary and service standards were what we were used to. I cannot recommend highly enough. The only tip I would give is to book! Thank you all at The Wheatsheaf.

First the service - this was good - the Maitre D' was called Hannah and was friendly and attentive. The rest of the team also kept us supplied at an appropriate pace. The food was good - not haute cuisine - this is a pub-restaurant so don't expect it. None of us (party of 5) had any complaints about the food. We shared our starters of breads and olives and roasted garlic and all agreed, this was appropriately sized and fine. My ribeye steak was well cooked - the chef knows the difference between medium and medium rare. One negative was the menu - this was cramped and sometimes difficult to read - beige background and grey writing - and yes I was wearing my glasses! All in all - a good place for dinner with family and friends.Cost, including drinks and two bottles of wine and tip around £40 a head - good value!

The Wheatsheaf offered my family "Exclusive Use" of their Dining Facilities to host a Surprise 70th Party for my Dad. 40 guests were warmly welcomed and catered for to the high standard we appreciate from this village inn. The Owner and his team work very closely to ensure all details and desires are met. Even last minute changes to seating plans were not an issue. All guests tucked into 3 x courses with much delight! These were all from the current menu - choosing proved difficult, as all very appealing. Food arrived swiftly and served with a smile. Enjoyed by all!!! A Big Thank You to Dan and the Team that night, you made it a Birthday to remember!

What a lovely place to visit, not only is it in a beautiful village, but it's very welcoming and the locals are very friendly too. The food was excellent - I had the haddock risotto, and it was perfectly cooked. All the staff were pleasant and attentive. The whole combination made it a great evening out with delicious food.

The pub/restaurant was not at all busy when we arrived and this was our first visit since it has been taken over by the same person who owns the Farndon Boathouse. My first impression was how dull/dark the restaurant was and it seemed that more tables had been squashed in. It did feel cramped! However, we all commented how good the food was. A very good choice on the menu. We had the sharing platter for our starter. Excellent. A good mix and the warm Brie was superb. We were happy with our main courses and the food was hot. Another plus as so often now I find meals arrive luke warm.We will definitely give this another visit.

Fantastic food and great atmosphere for a village pub. We had been meaning to try the Wheatsheaf out for a while and my wife booked us a table for my birthday. We are not local but it was well worth the trip as the food is exceptional. I had the ribeye steak and my wife had the risotto. We both enjoyed the food and the atmosphere which is relaxed and friendly. I will not hesitate to recommend to family and friends and can't wait to return.

Sunday lunch with friends - good value, standards and selection. Food was served in good portions, by pleasant and attentive waiting staff. Pretty good and reasonably priced wine menu. We paid £30 each for three courses and a bottle of wine.Really lovely experience, without pretending to be anything it wasn't - as Sunday lunch should be.

Recently moved to area, and what a joyful discovery the Wheatsheaf is. Dreary February brightened up with warm welcome, comfortable bar area, and best ham and eggs ever!Chunky chips and a beer battered pineapple slice with really good ham. Home produced pickled eggs on bar and several excellent beers. The lemon posset was divine with home made shortbread The chef came out to speak to us, he will probably get to know us quite well now! The beautiful church opposite makes the venue a lovely place for a leisurely lunch.

Went for Sunday lunch with my husband and parents. Good selection of roast meats and they were tasty however the customer service was abysmal - I only hope they were temporarily understaffed for their own sake. There appeared to be two working on the bar - fine, and another two waitressing on lunch - not so good and they didn't have a clue about service. We were seated in the back room with another 4 and a big table of about 8-10. We literally could not hear each other speak, I've never experienced anything like it, which when you go out for lunch with the family talk is normally the done thing! The large table were all shouting and squawking. We did ask if the waitress could do anything, who spoke to the manager but 'nothing could be done.' The food was served and as I said it was tasty but the waitress served our food and was gone - getting any extra drinks throughout, ordering anything extra, gravy or sauces was near on impossible! They never came back to us or even later to see if everything was ok with the meal. When trying to get their attention, I felt they were deliberately pretending they hadn't heard as they were too busy serving others to do anything else. It really was like pulling teeth and I ended up waiting at the bar for drinks in the end.The Menu, as previous comments was very limited but I suppose it was a Sunday? If you wanted anything slightly lighter for lunch such as a salad or fish you weren't in luck and only 3 choices for dessert including ice cream wasn't a good enough selection. We won't be in any rush to go back until they sort out their customer service!

With a group of friends we decided to go out for a late lunch on Sunday. The Wheatsheaf is a very pleasant pub overlooking a beautiful village green, they have a large selection of beers and some special wines . A couple of people had the beef Sunday lunch, I had the house burger with trimmings and all were very well cooked and presented. What a little gem in a lovely location and very reasonably priced too.

Everything is just deep fried. Sausages straight into the fryer then burnt to a crisp on the grill, black pudding straight out of the freezer into the microwave then deep fryer. Money touched then straight back to food handling. Disgusting waste of £14. Straight in the bin

So pleased that this unique bar is open and apparently flourishing, even if it is limited to Thursdays - Sundays, I believe. This superb little bar is just lovely, and although I am not totally convinced with the new current colour scheme, the overall effect is excellent, and the lighting and fittings make this wonderful 'antique' area magical. Top marks must be given to the staff, all of whom were in immaculate uniform, and could not have been more helpful. The cocktails they were producing were first class, and the whole atmosphere was really special. If you want to be assured of a table, then it is necessary to book for a two hour slot, primarily of course as space is so limited. Congratulations to the current owner, the Angel & Royal appears to be flourishing.
