Little gem. Found this place entirely by accident on our way through. At first glance it looks a bit rough but the food, portion size and service were top notch. Proper British pub. Portions sizes are huge and the nachos are the best we've had. Will def be back at some point. Keep up the good work.

Went in a little while ago looking for food with the wife, vegetarian, asked to see menu which didn't seem to have any vegetarian mains, asked if I was being blind or did they have nothing vegetarian? "Nope, we have nothing vegetarian" replied the lady behind bar in an unapologetic, unfriendly tone. We went elsewhere.

It's been 6 months since the new owners took over and we thought it was high time to have a meal there. I rang to make a booking and felt a genuine warmth when it was answered - booking was a breeze and we were looking forward to our evening out.The menu is on a blackboard in teh bar area and one or two dishes were sold out - a good sign - so we both opted for the garlic mushrooms and the steak and ale pie - both were excellent - the mushrooms were in a lovely creamy sauce on a slice of garlic bread and the steak pie was refreshingly different to the usual crusty pastry topped pie in a red hot bowl, it was a proper pastry 'encrusted' pie with a rich gravy and accompanied by the usual chips and peas - we were full afterwards. Sadly there was no room for a desert (this time).Cheerful service and a decent house wine were both in abundance. If they're busy, don't be in a rush, it's only a small village pub, not a fast food outlet. Will we go back - oh yes.

Having visited this pub a few times over the last 3-4 months since moving to Drayton my friend and I really enjoyed both the food and atmosphere. It was also a nice place to be able to visit with my Cocker Spaniel who unfortunately suffers from severe separation anxiety if left at home alone. We have had absolutely no problems with the dog and he sits happily under the table, with the friendly Barman even making a fuss of him. Anyway tonight we visited and ordered our food. The dog was sat happily under the table observing people in the bar area but mainly sleeping. The owner (presumably?) however came over and said ‘can you keep the dog under the table, if I had known you had a dog I wouldn’t have let you in here!’. Now I was a little taken aback by this, considering we have always sat in the same place and the said gentleman has even acknowledged my dog in the past. I therefore questioned what he said. He repeated himself and went on his way. Now I appreciate some people don’t like dogs, however having been in here and eaten on many occasions (even sitting in the same area!) I was really taken aback. I then felt very uncomfortable with the dog - despite him being totally placid and relaxed under the table. When the friendly barman came over I asked him if the dog was a problem. He said he wasn’t however clearly from my earlier treatment this is not how it came across. I didn’t want to stay any longer (though usually we have stayed and had dessert and drinks etc) and just felt this ruined the entire experience. If you don’t want dogs here, fair enough - but have a clear policy to your customers and try and delicately handle the situation. I won’t be returning.

Visited here this evening with a friend and was very disappointed with the service. Having moved to Drayton around 4 months ago, I have visited here on 4-5 ocassions for dinner. I have a Cocker Spaniel who unfortunately suffers from bad separation anxiety and consequently cannot be left at home alone long. It was nice to find a local pub that appeared to be dog friendly. Anyway, this evening we sat down for dinner in the same area as we had on every other ocassion. The dog was completely relaxed and was lying down under the table/asleep as per usual. He was extremely well behaved and always is when he is around people. Anyway, the owner (presumably?) came over and said ‘can you keep the dog under the table please, if I had known you had a dog I wouldn’t have let you in here!’. Taken aback, I asked the gentleman what he said. It is also worth pointing out the owner has even acknowledged the dog in the past. He repeated himself and walked away. I was very shocked by this as at no point previously had we ever had any friction felt towards the dog and the gentleman’s approach was far from justified. Having worked in customer service orientated positions all my life, he could have been far more diplomatic. When the barman walked over shortly afterwards, I question if the dog was an issue as we would quite happily have moved or even left if I felt this was the case. He insisted he was not a problem. It was clear however from my earlier encounter with his boss this was not the case and I felt very unwelcome. My friend also agreed and was equally taken aback. We finished our meal and drinks as quickly as possible and left; though had planned to stay for dessert and drinks as we had done on previous visits. The evening was totally ruined. I do completely understand if people don’t like dogs however all that is required is a clear policy that does not contradict itself. This evenings approach completely conflicted with my experience during previous visits and frankly the owner handled the situation extremely poorly. It is a real shame as the barman is very friendly and hospitable. I won’t however be returning.
