Una cena de mitad de semana de invierno. Bonito fuego a la llegada, buen menú interesante y como siempre una carta de vinos muy agradable. Evitó la oferta de filetes o menú fijo y optó por a la carta. El servicio obviamente estaba teniendo una noche libre. Un tibio saludo. Ordenó pan y aceitunas para llevar al primer plato. Un poco sorprendido de ser llevado a la mesa con la comida ya allí para enfriar con pan y aceitunas junto. Entonces tuve que pedir carta de vinos, agua dulce. Setas cremadas que vale la pena pedir como lo fue el filete. Prueba el afogato, perfecto Bonita gama de vinos por copa, así como botella. No hay visita para preguntar si todo está bien, no hay oferta u otra bebida. Finalmente tuve que ir al bar a cobrar la factura.

What a delightful pub! Just what you want in a rural situation, so cosy, inviting, homely, dogs and gumboots, absolutely scrumptious food, good local draught beer and cider and friendly staff. Definitely coming back💚 Please could you put up a clearer sign post, as we drove right past and round about the tiny village lanes, because we didn't see the large engraved stone indicating the entrance!😐

Short menu but delicious food. The roast beef was beautifully cooked and tender, very nice meat. The turbot was lovely too. Excellent service, professional and friendly. The surroundings are beautiful too. Excellent experience.

Excelente comida y el mejor servicio. Este pub es una joya que ha resistido la prueba del tiempo. Teníamos carne asada y cerdo, así como la merluza. Ni una queja. Bien hecho para ti y tu equipo. Happy Christmas

A warm welcoming place, with cosy rooms and lovely food.

Comida muy deliciosa y buen ambiente. ¡El venado era hermoso y ni siquiera puedo explicar lo desaliñado que estaba el puré de trufa! Pudín era absolutamente fabuloso también. El jardín sería precioso en el verano.

Somos bastante locales, así que hemos visitado este pub bastantes veces a lo largo de los años, y siempre lo hemos disfrutado. Es triste decir que nuestro almuerzo de hoy fue muy decepcionante. La comida, cuando llegó, era buena. ¿Pero realmente valió la pena esperar 75 minutos? El servicio era muy pobre. Había vasos de agua en la mesa, pero tuvimos que pedir agua a mitad de nuestra comida, así como tener que preguntar al personal de camarera dos veces dónde estaba nuestra comida después de una hora de espera. Nos quitaron los platos principales, y esperábamos que el menú de pudín se volviera a la mesa. Una vez más, no se materializó, así que nos dieron la factura y nos fuimos. Una cálida bienvenida y un buen servicio habría hecho toda la diferencia. Al pub le vendría bien que hubiera más personal los fines de semana, y que se les diera mucha mejor formación en hostelería.

The second visit to meet family for their Sunday roast. All tables full, made up of lots of different combinations. Some turned over more than once! The location - large public house, which also offered lovely accommodation with great views. In a great setting, tucked away in the countryside, although at the same time could feel it being a local hostelry. The staff were all welcoming & accommodating. A suitable table was given to our group, which included a (well behaved) dog. Water on offer for the 4 legged friends Out of our party of 7- most chose the beef. All cooked to our liking of rare/medium rare. Vegetables all cooked just right, to maintain the flavours. All the trimmings present & when requested extra gravy - this was not a problem. Great all round food again to a high standard & would also recommend having a pud too! Would recommend advance booking for this popular eatery.

Excellent Sunday roast… sorry no pics, but worth checking out.

What a magical place! A hidden gem nestled in the countryside, surrounded by silence and peacefulness. Our room was large, cozy, and very well decorated. The bathroom was modern but with a touch of rustic feeling. There was every amenity you could need, even a bathrobe, slippers and homemade cookies! Such a lovely gesture. We also had a wonderful time at the restaurant where we ate, dare I say it, the best sticky toffee pudding ever. The place had such a cozy feeling, with candles on the table and the adorable house dog, Poppy, at our feet. In the morning, the breakfast (which is a bit late, 9am, just so you know) was delicious. We ate in a charming sun-lit room, with Poppy waiting and hoping for a slice a bacon! All in all, a gorgeous place where we would come again in a heartbeat.

Difficult to get to but a lovely setting but Sunday Lunch was completely underwhelming. Food was cold, very few veg and the roast potatoes were cooked to a cinder and at £24 each not worth half. We won’t be going back first and last visit.

Absolutely stunning rooms in a beautiful location. All the staff and owners were really friendly, Lauren and Jack were stars! Even on a busy bank holiday weekend, we were looked after every step of the way. Will definitely recommend and will be back :)

Overpriced and the food was cold.

I’ve been going to this pub for over 50 yrs. the setting is idyllic. Over the last 25 yrs it’s built a reputation for being a really foody place. But what a disappointment! A menu that was so bland - burger with an odd slaw thrown inside thrown on a plate with some uninviting chips. Tables not laid up. Indifferent service - tables not cleared and cleaned slowly with remnants left behind! Wonderful setting but food and service really poor for the price.

Located just outside bath in a small country lane in Combe Hay down a small country lane. The pub is on the side of the hill with a good view over the village and valley. Reasonable menu selection but not huge. Seating inside and outside undercover. Worth a try if in the area but suggest booking as popular.

Myself and 2 other friends turned up today for the breakfast advertised on Instagram and really wish we didn’t! When we arrived there was no staff to be seen in sight and when I enquired about the breakfast there was only 2 options which was fine but not exactly that exciting. We had to ask 3 times for any type of table service and we were rudely told that they were trying to get ready for lunch… if that’s the case then why advertise / promote breakfast! We all live just up the road and certainly won’t rush back. Food was ok but much easier to stay at home and eat breakfast!

We have stayed at the wheatsheaf for the last two evevings in the Wendy house. We had the most amazing stay The room was great The service was amazing Definitely one to return too Would highly recommend

This pub is set in a countryside location and on a sunny day is a glorious to sit outside enjoying a drink which I've done on a few occasions. I've not had food here for a long time but I remember it being amazing. Not so on the last visit - this time the food was 'ok' at best but to be honest I've made better at home. I had the chicken schnitzel and while the portion size was good it was just incredibly bland with zero thought to presentation. The desserts were a joke - I had cherry Bakewell slice which was about half the size of a Mr Kipling cherry Bakewell finger and it was £9! Unfortunately the quality of the food Vs the cost means we won't be back.

Lovely, when you can have a good pint with good food in a relaxing atmosphere, what more do you need, a lovely few hours with my partner forgetting about the world around us and enjoying each other's company in a lovely pub

Very nice setting !, the food is very tasty however the pub is quite mean with its portions, I had the roast beef and when asking for some horseradish I was brought a bowl of horseradish and given a tiny dollop of it. I went with my family and my grandad had to send his beef back to be cooked a bit more. Other than the portion sizes it’s a great pub 👍

One of the nicest pubs around the outskirts of Bath. Combs Hay is a beautiful little hamlet and the Wheatsheaf couldn't be more picturesque. Excellent beer and a huge, beautifully planted pub garden with plenty of shade and seating. Food was delicious and staff were happy to serve us even when we had no reservation & rocked up from a long walk in the countryside. My only slight gripe is that the only vegan option on the whole menu (which was otherwise very enticing) was a chickpea burger - perhaps it's time for something a bit better for vegans considering how common it is now? Would certainly recommend to anyone looking for a weekend pub walk or somewhere to soak up the long summer evenings.

Lovely pub; beautiful setting … albeit a tad difficult to get to with very narrow, country lanes and a steep climb in/out of the carpark ! Nice to sit outside in first warm spell of year in well tended garden. Decent food; good service .. though place was not busy. Enjoyable - will visit again, if in area.

Wonderful place. ALL the staff are friendly and helpful. Location is in the middle of nowhere (just the place for peace and quiet) Have to navigate through narrow winding country lanes to get the. Recommend you book.

Fabulous over night stay! Couldn't fault a single thing!

Lovely pub in a beautiful setting - great staff but one of the worst Sunday lunches I have ever had. Maybe because we were the last diners of the afternoon but this is no excuse. This is dreadful pub food and far from cheap. The exquisite surroundings deserve better cuisine.

Visited for lunch at 12pm on a sunny Friday. Beautiful terraced garden looking out over the small valley. Excellent value 3 course lunch for £25. All courses were delicious: mushroom soup with truffle oil and warm bread, hake with new potatoes, chard, asparagus and samphire, strawberries with clotted cream and caramel crunch. All washed down with an excellent local cider. Wow what an excellent place.

I enjoyed two fabulous meals here from set menu - two courses for £20. Absolutely delicious soup, topped with a cheesy crumpet, and the Catch of the Day was cooked to perfection, as was the Caesar salad I had the next day - warm moist chicken in lovely fresh salad and gorgeous egg slightly soft in the middle topped with tasty grated cheese.

We didn’t stay here, but dined at the pub around 4 times whilst on a two month stay near Bath. We absolutely loved it - the pub itself is super cosy, clean and the owners are very welcoming. The food is always on point and offers a lot more than your standard pub. Thank you for 4 amazing meals! We recommend you to everyone we meet!

Sunday lunch was disappointing, beautiful setting but dull food.

Our first visit. The food was amazing, fresh and a good serving on the plate. Staff where friendly and prompt with the orders.

We had a fairly large family gathering at the Wheatsheaf for Sunday lunch. The food and service were fabulous with knowledgeable friendly staff. The pub is dog friendly in the extreme, with their own little entourage of dogs. The garden area is terraced and on a nice day is wonderful. All in all, a lovely place with lovely staff.

It is a nice pub in beautiful surroundings. It's not very easy to find using maps and down some very narrow bendy roads to get there.

The Sustainable Forest Lodge was a testament to eco-conscious living. Surrounded by the beauty of the forest, it provided a harmonious retreat. Our lodge room was comfortable and had all the eco-friendly amenities we could ask for. The lodge staff were passionate about conservation and provided great tips for exploring the local ecosystem. A stay here is a step towards a greener future.

Updating from previous review as last visit was absolute perfection: the aubergine salad was amazing, the roast chicken was delicious, service was impeccable. Weather didn't play ball but it didn't matter at all. They now have Estrella Galicia on tap which is a favourite. Love the gorgeous outdoors space very much. Our seven year old chose to come here for his birthday lunch as it's his 'favourite pub' and frankly I think he has excellent taste! Decor quirky, eccentric and beautiful; building itself gorgeous with lovely large gardens. Not overwhelmed at choice of beer on tap and service was a bit disorganised. Food was great, good chips and tasty homemade burger. Berry sorbet is super nice but probably not usually suitable for children - it was offered as a choice for kids ice cream cone but fortunately my 5 year old loved it!

Fantastic location , excellent out door area for eating and drinking. Indoors very cosy during the winter. Only slight criticism is the food prices are now verging on the expensive side.

We went for Sunday lunch after a walk in the lovely countryside around Combe Hay. Service was good but the disappointment was that only three items were offered as main courses (for Sunday lunch) and only one of those was a vegan option. And that option was a risotto, which seems to be the standard vegan "option" in about 75% of pub restaurants. It's not very creative and although I am an omnivore, my partner is not. We should probably have looked at the menu beforehand, but really, in this day and age, having only one vegan item on the menu is a bit behind the times.

The setting is beautiful and there was a lovely atmosphere BUT the food is way too pricey for what you get. The cannelloni was just 2 small tubes and the rest of the plate was covered in tomatoes and leaves, tasty but left feeling hungry and out of pocket. My dad had the crab, definitely wasn't worth £30! HOWEVER my partner had the fish and chips which was spot on, huge and tasted lovely and fresh!

Haven’t dined here for a number of years and previous times have been a little hit & miss with food however this time was good. Staff were extremely friendly & helpful the food was good in a good atmosphere. In my opinion a little pricy for what it is but all in all an enjoyable evening.

Beautiful pub in a glorious location. We visited by chance on a sunny February day and were really pleased that we did. I am Coeliac so it was lovely to have a dedicated gluten free menu. I had battered fish and chips, which was a real treat for me, and my husband’s and daughter’s choices were equally good. The food arrived quickly and the service overall was brilliant. Our dog was also made welcome and the resident dogs were lovely. Hopefully we will return!

A most enjoyable evening and stay here at the Wheatsheaf, Combe Hay. A birthday treat for my wife, she loved it. Great atmosphere, top food, top staff, made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived late afternoon. A wonderful evening at the Wheatsheaf easily made my long journey on a dark wet night worthwhile. The location is lovely and the old stone pub was a cosy retreat in welcome contrast to the inhospitable weather. Great service from the friendly team and the food was knock out… homemade breads with all the trimmings, creamy flavoursome scallops, and perfectly cooked brill. Sides and sauces were excellent, as were the homemade ice creams to finish. Special thanks also to the chef and team for taking care over my tricky allergies.

Used to frequent this pub with family and then friends 35 years ago so popped back for some nostalgia! It was a beautiful day and the garden looked magnificent and very welcoming however a little nippy so we ate inside. Just as it was back then but bigger and better. We both had Chickpea burgers with Halloumi and sauces which were delicious. Great food, attentive service and good value, thank you

This pub was highly recommended but rather disappointing. I had Brill, nicely cooked, but on limp and tasteless unseasoned Pak Choi. The burgers were small and underwhelming. Frangipane and pear tart was dry, hard and lacking in flavour. Very little pear, very little almond flavour and pastry too hard to cut with a spoon. Wished I’d had the sticky toffee pudding, which was good. Obviously very popular with locals so perhaps we caught it on an off night

Quaint pub, great location. Stayed in one of the rooms. The only fault i can find with it is that the WC smelt overwhelmingly of cat urine. But the food was very good.

Wonderful food, attentive staff and beautiful setting. This really is a hidden gem. The outside space is so pretty and perfect for a summer evening. Delicious wine and steak and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. I have lived in Bath my whole life and can't believe I've never been here before! Will defo be returning.

Such a quaint hotel - only 4 rooms I believe. Just outside Bath - 15 minutes. Lovely room with eclectic decor. Everything you need including robes, tea & coffee, tuck box, fridge, TV. Bed was a jot firm but plenty of pillows. A bit remote but great country pub next door. Staff were lovely.

We were made very welcome at peak lunchtime on a busy Friday. Drinks were served immediately. An original and appetising menu. We were advised that the kitchen was very busy, but our food arrived without a long wait, it was well presented and very tasty....

Sub-standard, basic pub fodder at inflated prices. A special mention too for the gents toilets, where you can travel back to a time when framed photos of women's backsides were cool things to hang on your wall.
