Great pub and has indian takeaway too.

I have been dropping my elderly parents off here for over 5 years now as they unfortunately can’t drive anymore due to disabilities and health problems. I have never had a problem before so was shocked and disgusted to discover I had been fined for dropping them off in the pub car park last week. I didn’t stay and simply dropped them and left straight away but because they are elderly and quite frail- my mum having recently had an operation- they took a while to get out of the car and into the pub. In all- it took them 11 minutes and so I have now received a fine! I find it shocking to charge 100 for simply dropping people off. My mum did ask in the pub about putting in the registration number behind the bar but was told that was only necessary if I had been parking there and staying and I literally only dropped them and went immediately. I have politely raised this with the landlady and been spoken to in a patronising way and she has been completely unhelpful and unsympathetic. I would understand if I had actually parked in the car park and not paid but I was literally just dropping my parents off!! Also it hasn’t been a problem in the last five years of doing this! Absolutely disgusted at how this has been handled and will not be going there again. Even had the cheek to Call me a liar and suggest I got the wrong car park or wrong restaurant. Rude and completely disrespectful landlady!! Edit- it states the pubs name on the fine. Also you didn’t have a description of my parents so how would you know what you were actually looking for?? You can’t look for people who you don’t know what they look Like on cctv. Also, I was told by your staff member that you knew the owner of the car park and that it would be sorted out. Another member of staff told my mum that I didn’t need to put my registration into the machine as I wasn’t staying I was only dropping off- which was clearly the wrong information so they all perhaps need training!! My emails aren’t inconsistent either that is complete fiction- just a defensive manager who knows they re in the wrong! I will be sending copies of receipts also not that it will make any difference. Just read all the trust pilot reviews aswell it’s clear that I’m far from the only person that’s had a problem With this pub!

What an amazing place,everyone is so friendly and the prices are outstanding. If your visiting, this place is a must. You can even have an Indian or pick up fish and chips next door. Happy Hour on drinks

Very friendly staff and excellent meal

Lovely food (Indian takeaway next to it) the setup is a bit bizarre but it works. You can have a pint whilst waiting for your Indian food. The bar staff are lovely and polite, the whole place has a nice atmosphere. They have a pool table, you can play darts. Plenty of parking, and I love the quirky door at the back made from a beer barrel. Overall highly recommended.

Very nice little pub, food was very good. Amusingly they have Foster's on tap, which you don't really see in Australia anymore.

We went played some pool that is free! On Fridays. Nice place very unique love the entrance, nice people, decent prices all good.

Despite the owners claiming no responsibility for the car park when I asked, I have since discovered (welcome to the internet) that they employ Parking Eye to police it. I parked at their car park for 12 minutes but could not pay as the machine was out of order. I took a photo to prove it. 2 weeks later I get a threatening letter to say I owe them £100. PAY WITHIN 28 DAYS! (Remember that it was a 20p parking payment). I appealed. The pub says they have no idea (do you remember the internet thing?) I am now still waiting for a response from a company that somehow has access to my name and address whilst providing no method of contact. AVOID THIS PUB!!!

Bairmaid wasnt bothered, recognised when we went up to the bar and spent nearly a minute on her phone before she decided to serve us. Second round she decided to again finish what she was doing on her phone then empty the glass washer before serving us.

I parked in your car park on 16 June and have been fined by Parking Eye. The machine was not working (I have photographic evidence) when I went to pay. Paying by the SMS provided is no longer supported ( I have photographic evidence). I tried. Parkin Eye have refused my appeal despite the evidence. I do not have the time or energy to fight them. You say in your answer to a previous review that it is not your responsibility. I beg to differ if you are employing these people to manage your car park. I note they are not registered with the Ombudsman service. What a surprise !

Bar lady extremely rude. Asked if they were open reply was ‘ just about, what do you want’ made me feel like I wasn’t wanted there

Visit the George and Dragon at your peril! We parked in the car park at the rear of the George and Dragon pub on a Thursday lunchtime and went in to the pub. It took a few minutes for our family members to gather together. We then went to the bar but discovered they were not serving lunch. We did not enter our car registration number at the pub till because we'd gone in for food and so decided not to stay. We moved our car a few minutes later and had a lovely lunch at the Gather Inn. We were also able to park opposite in a free car park. A couple of weeks later, we received an Parking Eye invoice for £100. This showed we'd used the car park for 12 mins (the time it took to park, go into the pub and discover there was no food). This does not seem at all in the spirit of having a family meal in a traditional pub. There needs to be more flexibility here on the part of the pub (they could have advised us about Parking Eye, they could have entered our car registration into their pub till because they are well aware that this is frequently happening) and also on the part of Parking Eye (who offer a 0 period of grace - clearly a highly unreasonable company who are just out to make a fast buck). Rather left a sour taste in our mouths after our little visit to Batheaston.

Great pub with lots of food options

Having visited the Pub on the off-chance I was delighted with the warmth of the welcome, not only by the staff, but also by the clientile. Would definitely recommend a visit, and enjoy the food in the Indial restaurant at the back.

Great Indian food and friendly atmosphere

Went for Indian meal, very tasty and good value. Staff in restaurant and bar were great.

We were locked out of our Airbnb so called in here to ask for help. Evie went out of her way to help us, she organised the locksmith’s and we waited in the pub for them to arrive. Luckily we had a debit card. The pub has a really good selection of beers, spirits and ciders. The locals in there were just lovely and calmed us down in what was an extremely stressful situation and special thanks to Evie who was brilliant! Nothing too much trouble made us feel so welcome. We ordered food from the Indian attached when we managed to get in which was absolutely delicious, bhaji’s to die for and each dish we had was amazing best Indian we have had for ages. Thank you to everyone that helped us last night

Very friendly pub, staff and locals alike. Let me bring me chips in from next door so I could watch the world cup. Pool table and fruit machine.

Real honest English pub. Very well kept beer. As if all this wasn't enough an Indian restaurant is attached serving some of the best food of any sort I'm the Bath area.

Great little boozer. Best on I've found d outside Bath so far. The locals here are either racist or quality etc. Proper mixed bunch which I love. Five stars sir. Decent beer and had a brilliant curry house at the back. I would live on their special Biryani if I could afford to.

Small local pub with a small courtyard garden and an inclusive Indian restaurant. Unusual entrance as it is made from an old beer barrel.

Nice pub and great bar service but could be so much nicer if integrated with Easton Spice and served Indian lagers. Easton Spice does great food, sit in or takeaway but let down by scruffy toilets and lack of Indian lager at the bar.

Staff really friendly and great Indian restaurant attached. They offered some great recommendation so we could try something different.

Love coming here as it's a great local. Quick and polite service, special mention to Meg as she's always working so hard. Definitely recommend this pub, it's now our new local!

Stayed at hotel down the road while in Bath and called into the George & Dragon, after a evening walk into Batheaston. Found staff very friendly and chatty , great to hear they were helping local kids . Carry on the good work and hope to call in again when visiting Bath.

I visited this pub for a Band that was playing, parked out the back and seen you can park for free using the pub facilities, great bar staff who advised the car park was not anything to do with the pub itself and is owned by a private landowner. Reasonable priced drinks, locals very friendly and to my surprise a Indian restaurant out the back. A great little village pub to visit

Never trust a pub who make money from their Car Park!!! Scandalous! No care for community. You’ll find a lot do dislike on a google search.

Batheaston is for the people that live there and no-one else! Do not UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PARK IN THE CAR PARK BEHIND THE PUB.

Good price drinks,good quality well maintained beer, good choice of drinks ,staff friendly and know what they are doing. Pool table, seating nice atmosphere and a jukebox. Behind the pub is an excellent Indian either ear in or takeaway. Very impressed with the quality food and prices visited several time quality stays same.

Upon entering the pub we were met with a quiet atmosphere - a barmaid and two other customers drinking by the bar. My girlfriend went to find a seat by the pool table while I ordered two drinks. Whilst waiting for the drinks I was asked a) am I voting this election, b) who am I voting for, and c) what faith am I. 3 weird questions to be met with. Laughing these comments off and not answering any of the questions I took the drinks and sat down. The music was loud in the bar but not too loud to talk over. It was then that one of the two customer walked over the to jukebox beside us and said ‘sorry for the song request’ and put something on, heading back to the barmaid and other customer and pointed over to us repeatedly and laughing. When the song came on it was apparent we weren’t welcome. The music was turned up very loud by the barmaid and the song ‘What Part Of F**k Off Don’t You Understand’ came on. By the gestures being made from the customers and the barmaid it was apparent this was aimed at us. When the song finished we went over and said thank you for the drinks. The barmaid and the customer laughed and said ‘you going after one drink?’ when we replied we’re obviously not welcome. Such a shameful end to a Sunday afternoon walk. Never returning and never recommending this god awful, backward place. Batheaston deserves better.

Food was great, and the staff, only thing I would advise if they put a door on the restaurant as I could hear the music from the pub, but I will definitely go back, went for my bro 50 th, well looked after us, thanks

Nice pub good food good staff very helpful

I have been to the George and Dragon a few times now and have had nothing but positive experiences.It is a traditional local pub and when you first walk in there you are greeted with smiles and made to feel totally welcome. The prices are not too bad either, around a few quid for a pint. The hilarity in that is if you walk a mile or two into the centre of town, you are paying almost double that for the cheaper pints on tap. The locals are friendly and will have long conversations with you, alongside the staff where you feel after time you have made new friends. I have been made aware many a time about the deals they have including happy hour which ranges in times seven days a week. Definitely worth a visit, you will go more than once!

If the signage was clear there is no way I would have pulled in. I called the staff there who said they would cancel the ticket... and they never did. 9 months later I've had to pay £170 to avoid court action. What a hole - stay well clear - who want to support a business that behaves like this? --> In response to the owner's reply: the reason I posted this review is because it was one of YOUR members of staff that said they would get it cancelled if I sent them the details outlining the situation. And they didn't do anything about it. That is your responsibility and why this review is here. I have called many times and been fobbed off multiple times.

Clean and efficient. But make sure you have to pay for parking, as you can get a fine. parking behind pub.

Great pub, great beer, friendly and welcoming people. At the back of the pub you can order probably the best Indian meal you've ever had in your life. A real pleasure.

Just like other reviewers we called in wanting a quick drink before going to our hotel. The weather was again terrible so we just ran in got a drink and left. We're not from the area so weren't aware of the parking charges and in the dark didn't see any signs. What a shame that such a nice pub uses someone like Parking Eye. Won't be coming back

Very frustrating as never been here before and called in with my daughter after swimming as promised her a packet of crisps, it was pouring with rain and literally grabbed her hand ran to the pub, she ate her crisps and I had a coke. Didn't see any signs although when you visit in daylight there is no escaping them! My fault but what turned into a treat for my daughter costs me £60.00 with parking eye. Feels very unfair that 18 minutes spent at a local business costs you £60 (£100 if I didn't pay within a certain time). I feel that the pub could have made it clearer with regards to parking, again this could be an error on my behalf as I am hard of hearing and when I was served something was said and perhaps they were telling me!

Havn't been here for years so on the way bsck from a non league football match 16 of us decended on this quiet village pub. The young lady coped very well but was overwhelmed when we arrived. I am sure they were glad to see us go as this place is not used to a mini bus of football fans.

This is for me the promised land; a traditional pub serving real ales with a brilliant Indian restaurant out back. This isn't a pub Indian meal this is the real thing. The food was delicious, the service attentive and informative and, of course, you could wash it down with a real ale. The bar wines weren't bad either. Can't recommend it highly enough. However, we have friends in Batheaston, so we walked to the pub. I notice some negative comments about parking.

Really nice atmosphere, we went for some Indian food at the eastern spice which is attached to the rear of the pub and the food was out of this world, the hosts were very professional and the food was on another level, I really recommend the Naga. I felt so comfortable there, I will be going again. Don't be put off at the fact it's attached to a pub because how it is set up is brilliant. Everyone must try this food. The pub is a proper local pub with a friendly atmosphere.

Run down with dirty toilets damaged walls in corridor and toilet suggested not the place to visit late on Saturday night barmaid was pleasant though

Nice enough pub, nice traditional old pub. Pool table and darts for pub games. The restaurant area is nice and the food is decent. There is a beer garden out the back and a car park. Right opposite a bus stop so can get there via public transport. Service is friendly and welcoming.

Mejor curry que he tenido en mucho tiempo, bastante parcial al cordero de Goa. Se puede decir que esto se hace recién hecho con carne quailty utilizada (muy superior a la mayoría de los curries que he tenido) y no es grasienta en absoluto, lo que para mí es una gran ventaja. El restaurante es vibrante pero acogedor al mismo tiempo. Recomendaría encarecidamente una visita, ya sea para quedarse y sentarse o tomar algo para llevar. Delicioso?

They need to get the parking sorted. Added my number plate to their system and still get a fine sent. They said they would deal with it but a final warning came. Beyond a joke.

Close to the river Avon and out in the countryside near to Bath is this nice pub that we popped into for some cold drinks on a hot sunny day. Good service.

Went for Sunday lunch and the food was very bland. The whole place needs a make over. Appears it was better in the past with window baskets and flowers all around but now it just looks unloved.

I first visited this pub a couple years ago, so decided to try it again - big mistake!!! There is limited seating at the bar area, with a separate room with a pool table in which the staff/landlady seemed to spend more time in than anywhere else. The dining room was dark & dingy, food was okay but nothing special. The landlady was more interested in messing about & talking to the other staff than paying attention to any customers (ourselves included), so definitely won't return whilst under the same owners, & wouldn't recommend to anyone else! It's a shame as under previous management the pub was always busy & well run.

Gave this place the benefit of doubt after reading previous reviews and was pleasantly surprised. Wonderful atmosphere with friendly locals and barstaff. Tried food from the new menu and itwas lovely, quick to arrive and reasonably priced. New manangement has certainly improved this establishment

We visited the George and Dragon on a Friday evening whilst staying in Batheaston, recommended by apartment owners for great food and good pub. Very dark and dingy inside which is expected in a historic building, but did not appeal. Limited seating at the bar, adjacent area was a pool table/room which was pretty rowdy. Then a dark empty dining room because the chef had left. Sat outside at a dirty old wooden table in a dirty untidy courtyard. Barmaid was friendly. Husband went back each night for 7 nights, still no chef, two beer taps had run out of beer, and nothing any cleaner. Barmaid still friendly. Very disappointing.

My family use to go down most Sundays for a delicious Sunday roast and what topped it off was the extremely friendly staff. However our last few visits have been far from this truth.

We visited here twice, once for lunch and once in the evening. There was some evidence that someone in the kitchen cares about the food. A couscous stuffed pepper is an inventive item and fish and chips came with homemade tartar sauce. Staff were friendly and the beer was well kept. The pub itself is a rather run down and the outside ‘garden’ area is a bit of a dumping ground. In the evening it was dreadful, deafening music, everybody drunk including the staff and the place a shambles. Not worth a third visit.

My Mother recently moved to the area and ordered us all a takeaway roast dinner. Lovely friendly helpful staff and gorgeous roast.. Especially the gravy. Strongly recommend

What a lovely old historical pub on the canal side. The staff were really friendly. Caters for families .walkers . dog walkers groups or romantic couples. Definitely worth a visit more than once

We were meeting friends and needed somewhere wheelchair friendly and with excellent food. We were very happy with the food. The Sunday lunch was brilliant and the one's who made it through to pudding said they were delicious. The staff were lovely and very helpful. We will be back!

Went here for lunch on a Saturday, on the basis of it having a high rating on TripAdvisor (currently 4½) but was very disappointed.

My wife and I went in for a Sunday lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Small pub very friendly staff and the portion sizes were good. I had a large and didn't finish it. Plenty of veg and lots of meat. Would definitely return

Very friendly and welcoming host. Good wholesome food. Steak was cooked perfectly; nice blue cheese and pepper sauces, vegetarian 'burger' was really nice. Good beer too.

The G & D has a limited pub grub menu but the food is good and the portions are large. So large that we took up the offer of takeaway boxes containing what we were too full to eat at the time. This was from a meal of two courses for £11.99 which is good value in anybody's book.

Just the very best Sunday lunch

Just back from a morning ramble, in company with about two dozen other people and various dogs. I was very kindly invited by the nice people who run the George and Dragon to join one of their organised dog walks. Meet at the pub at 09.30 for tea/coffee and bacon butties, set off about 10.00 for a ramble through the Kent countryside, the walsk are posted on the pubs website, get back to the pub about 12 noon for a refreshing pint/ drink/ lunch what have you. Sounds good, well it was better than good, met some really nice people, some very well behaved dogs and had a terrific walk. Well done to the George and Dragon! They run these events a few times a t year and I can't wait for the next one. BTW my pints of Harveys was superb but then the George and Dragon is a soupebb sort of pub.

Staying in the village and having been told what a friendly pub this was, we ignored a couple of recent poor reviews and decided to give it a try. A good decision.

Love this village pub. It has a fantastic sunday lunch. Staff are always very friendly and the landlady Devon always looks after us.

Have visited the pub before when down from Scotland visiting family in area and had many good meals at the George and Dragon, unfortunately this will be my last visit.

Todo lo que conseguí fue una pequeña pieza de pollo, 5 patatas asadas 1 trozo de relleno poco hecha unos zanahorias y Kale y una Yorkshire pudding/de la Bessie Antie el pollo asado era insípido escalfados no! ! ! ! ! Creo que al vapor. Este lugar tenía una buena reputación por sus asados del domingo esta es la segunda vez que me pasa que se ha cambiado de chef/cocinero! allí No es lo que solía ser muy decepcionado. . . . .

We booked a table for Sunday Lunch as the reviews were good from other "Sunday" diners. We were not disappointed. The choice of roasts was excellent and, even though we had to wait for our meals to arrive, it was so worth it. the vegetables were cooked to perfection and everything appeared to be very fresh. Also, the choice of 2 portion sizes was a bonus as the "small" plate was plenty enough for a normal appetite.
