Lovely traditional pub. Great food and the service from the wonderful waitress and bar lady was great! Highly recommend!

You can be sure of a really good meal and a friendly welcome, without fail. There are many lovely walks in the area, so you can make sure you aim for lunch at the Compton Inn from many directions. I nearly always opt for the Oggy of the Day, it’s a guaranteed winner. Yesterday was venison and mushroom in red wine. Absolutely delicious!

Terrific Sunday roast full of flavour and great portions. Service was spot on, not too much but always attentive. The Pub is super comfortable, with couches and fires places. Strongly recommend a visit.

We have just thoroughly enjoyed a delicious, ample and beautifully presented Sunday lunch at the Compton Inn. The service was great, even more so bearing in mind that the pub was packed. We couldn’t have been better looked after and we shall definitely return. We all had the belly of pork which had freshly prepared vegetables and delicious gravy. The sticky toffee pudding and Eton mess made thoroughly enjoyed dessert. The whole meal exceeded expectations!

We dropped in on on our way home and what a find. Very friendly welcome and the food was super. We had the beef lasagne and the chicken in stilton sauce, both served piping hot and extremely tasty. Only comment was my portion was quite large so I didn't have room for a dessert. If we lived closer we would definitely go again.

This was a mid way meeting point for my husband and myself to see my parents. The food was very good. All had clean plates. I’m not a lover of a roast so it was lovely to be able to order a burger on a Sunday afternoon. The best thing for me was the brownie, it was lush.

Just got back from here after having our evening meal,it was fantastic with good portions and not to badly priced,it was that nice we booked a table for tomorrow,the staff were very pleasant and helpful,thanks for a nice experience

Good food. Good service. Good atmosphere. Very helpful with advice on food allergies especially as anything cooked with rapeseed oil in it as a problem for my sister. We will definitely return again soon. Thank you.

Lovely location, atmosphere was great. 5 couples meeting for lunch, a mixture of 2 or 3 courses. The starters and desserts were great (if a little pricey) but the chips on the main meals were awful. I'm pretty sure they are advertised as triple cooked, but they were so hard and overcooked, we chose not to come back to this pub based on how bad the chips were. Shame!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Compton Inn and it was nothing short of amazing! The village location has a perfect charm, and the overall feel of the place is just right. One of the standout features was the brilliant beer garden – it’s the perfect spot for a summer’s drink, offering great views and a relaxed atmosphere. The food was exceptional, with a traditional country rustic style that truly hit the spot. I absolutely loved the Chilli Burrito – it was full of flavor, and the quality was top-notch. And don't even get me started on the desserts – they were insane! Everything is home-cooked, and you can really taste the quality in every bite. The service was super friendly and welcoming, making it feel like the ideal spot for both outdoor summer vibes or cozy indoor dining with that classic country pub feel. I will definitely be back! The only tiny downside was the ketchup – it wasn’t the best quality, but honestly, with food that amazing, it’s a small price to pay. Highly recommend!

Great country pub always buzzing with life with lots of interesting people, really nice out door space with typical pub seating all very clean. The pub inside is very nice, they are dog friendly but it’s narrow so you might want to get a seat out of the way, the bar gets busy. I have been here a few times and the bar staff could be a little bit more friendly, on each occasion they seemed stressed or not that happy, maybe I missed something 🤷 the food was very good and plenty of choice to drink, beers on tap and good soft drinks so a good place to visit.

I would give this 1 star, but the staff were really lovely and so deserve better. However the food... it really was poor, I'm sad to say. Possible it was an off day for the chef. We all had chips with our meals which while they looked hand-cooked, they were hard and pretty tasteless as though they'd been reheated from the day before. I really hope that wasn't the case, but that's what we all thought. My kids, normally chip-eating machines, wouldn't eat them. Neither did my wife and I, unfortunatley. The steak was borderline 'ok'... actually overcooked and not a great cut, but passable. The fish (fish & chips) was really not good. Clearly not fresh and was quite oily, not very big and didn't taste great. Sausages for the kids were bog-standard pre-cooked/deep fried. Neither of our kids wanted to finish them. We then had some ice-cream for desert - again, disappointing. They had a board outside advertising Marsfield Farm ice cream for Dogs, so we assumed they'd do Marsfield Ice Cream for 'people' too (or something of a similar type/quality), but sadly not... what we got tasted like supermarket ice-cream from a punnet. Grainy and not very pleasant. It's all a real shame as it's a lovely spot and the staff were so friendly. They just need to up their food game. It just wasn't good enough, I'm afraid. Perhaps it was just an off-day as I see there are plenty of good reviews, but sadly we just cant corroborate them . Our food was really quite poor.

Excellent food, nice to have a salad that consisted of more then just leaves and a tasty dressing. Service friendly and helpful to hubby who tried a local beer 'Otter' he was happy. Also our rescue dog had a good experience sitting outside watching the village go by. Thankyou will return. Recommend.

Excellent food, atmosphere and service, we decided to stop at the Compton on our way back from Bath having looked on line at the menu. The food was really exceptional, I had the steak, which was so tender and the hand cut chips were wonderful. My husband had gammon which filled the plate and came with Salad, peas onion rings and two eggs, tomato and mushrooms. Both meals were really well presented. We will definitely go back and would highly recommend. Also it was all very reasonably priced.

A perfect place all round food, welcome and atmosphere do not miss this gem.

Absolutely wonderful pub, we was venturing back from Devon and decided to scrap the traffic for a good meal and a car park to get our head down before getting on our way again, and we couldn't of picked a better place, the staff were welcoming and the locals (lots of them) were all friendly. It was great to see a busy pub with friendly locals. Very old country English! Wonderful

Stumbled across this pub on a gorgeously sunny Sunday afternoon. Lovely looking pub inside and out, very friendly young chap serving behind the bar. Didn't have any food but it looked good and will definitely be back to try it out.

Unrealistically high prices and tasteless food, no choice of real ales or ipas. There are cake and coffee on offer but staff charge you double regardless of what's on the board as offer. Rude attitude when asked for more cutlery. Outside atmosphere was really nice though and the whole area - just beautiful to visit!

Lovely spot for a quiet drink in the sun

The Compton is a gem of an English pub. Full of laughter good ale, food and dogs, perfect. There's a large, free car park but also this place is popular with walkers so one way or another there is no excuse for missing it! We went there a few weeks back for Sunday lunch, which was excellent (make sure you book) but the regular menu was packed with choice so we went back one evening in the week and it didn't disappoint. We'll be going again before heading back home to Lincolnshire.

Fabulous pub lunch clearly the chef cares deeply about his food ! We had such a warm reception lovely ploughman’s and my field raved about her cod and chips !! Service was lovely and efficient felt very much at home wish we could have stayed longer ! K

This is the quintessential British pub. Good beer, food, setting and ambience. We had a family Sunday lunch here so chose from the "Sunday" menu. But there are many great choices other than roast so we'll be going back to sample some of those for sure!

Visited last night ordered sirloin steak funny taste left half of it chips like left overs expensive not impressed also Sunday dinner 3 weeks ago the same result.. past 4 years brilliant shame won't be going back.

We came here for some food and the rude old lady with blonde hair behind the bar told us there were no baby changing facilities for our 5 week old baby, and when I asked what I should do to change my son, she replied sharply, I don't know. Also for a dog friendly pub, we were told we had to keep our small well behaved dog at one end of the table, again in a rude manner by the same woman. So we walked out without ordering! Horrific customer service and won't be coming here again!!

Having previously visited The Compton Inn a few years back, I was looking forward to returning. The pub was clean and the food was really delicious, however the experience was massively let down by the poor customer service from one particular elder female employee who was incredibly rude to our table. Think twice before visiting if you expect to just be treated as a valuable paying customer - spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

Very well cooked duck breast. Dale the head chef keeps performing again and again. Any meal you have here you will not be disappointed.

Called in on the off chance for a drink and some lunch. It was very busy but we still had a welcoming smile from Kate behind the bar. The food was freshly made, hot and very tasty. Kate, Lisa (plus two other ladies) were chatty and made us feel valued as customers. Overall, a lovely time spent here and we will be returning.

First visit, nice "locals" pub/restaurant. Exceptionally busy and probably due to being Remembrance Day. Service a little disjointed, one lady behind the bar could have been a more personable but otherwise a good experience when food arrived.

This is an Outstanding Pub the food is superb and the staff always attentive and friendly We wanted a family photo taken and the blonde lady serving us was so helpful . We would really recommend the faggots but to be honest every meal that came out was delicious warm and a very good portion. I recommend this pub to many of my friends. Truly I feel you will be in for a treat when you visit. It's a classy traditional and quintessential British Pub for people who really appreciated the good things in life that are relaxing comforting and a feeling of community from bygone days. Some where to escape the crazy rush of the world we live.

We visited this pub for a quick bite to eat with friends and will definitely not be returning! The staff, in particular the blonde lady, who I believe to be in charge is extremely rude. We had a few children in the party and asked if we could move to an area where we would be out of the way of annoying any other guests in the pub. The one table was already cleared and the other table next to it needed to be wiped down. I followed the lady mentioned above to the table however I do not think she knew I was behind her and I heard her say to a Staff member “ I’m not wiping this down for them too much, they have already made a mess up there”. Terrible service during our meal. There was no attempt from any staff members to ask us whether everything was ok with our food or whether we needed any condiments or further drinks. I think unless you are local and part of the “clique” then you are not welcome!

Visited the Compton Inn for a special family lunch, we had quite a large group however we were squeezed onto the tiniest table in a cramped walkway. Would seat around 6 comfortably, but there were 10 of us..! The staff were rude and flustered. Very slow to order drinks at the bar and they were serving who seemed to be locals first although we had been waiting ages before them! They got our puddings wrong from the preorder but made it out to be us that ordered incorrectly. The waitress was very rude and just looked at us like we were mad. We had to eat the desert that we hadn’t ordered as they made no effort to rectify their error, the dessert ended up being horrible. It was an apple crumble but tasted like overcooked raspberry purée with pure cinnamon crumb sprinkled over it. Would not return. Bad service, mediocre food and very rude staff.

I called the pub to book today and the man I spoke to was exceptionally rude. I was in shock so carried on booking the reservation with him. Shorty after, I called back to cancel as I wouldn’t want to give my business to such an obnoxious member of staff.

Nice pub average food it's just lacking that extra push for perfection, very popular local pub very busy in the bar area on a Friday night, it's not the first time I have eaten here with the same crowd of freinds, first time we had the gammon steak omg it was well over cooked chips were nice that's it, second visit had the chicken breast in a mushroom sauce with dauphine potato and veg as in photo, I'm not sure what happened to the chicken breast however I had bits of chicken sauce was tasty nothing spiecal veg was OK this meal could of been absolutely banging unfortunately it's just average, my freinds had fish n chips the fish batter was under cooked, the chips all varied in consistency, it's such a shame

Off the beaten track this pub is well worth the drive. We ate here twice - mid-week we had the chicken and mushroom oggies and then returned for a fabulous Sunday Roast - HUGE serving of roast beef, veggies and the all important Yorkshire pudding. The Compton is reasonably priced, has a reasonable wine list and there are a good number of ales on tap but most importantly has bright and cheerful staff. There’s plenty of parking and the tables are well spaced so you’re not sitting on top of others. Highly recommended.

A great local pub, usually full of locals, but they have a great set of outdoor tables, so is great for a drink in the sunshine.

Service was pretty awful. Apparently the staff had hangovers after the village fete the day before. The roast was good but a significant disparity between loads of potatoes and meagre vegetable portions. We were told all but one of the tables were reserved but by the time we left, none of said tables had been occupied and the pub was getting more empty.

Called in for lunch today and was pleasantly surprised by the ambience and welcome. Definitely deserves the high rating. The quality and quantity was first class, however I had belly pork cooked to perfection but I like stuffing with my pork and regrettably it was not included. That said I will visit again.

Decided to try the Compton this evening. Unfortunately, I was not impressed with the food. The pub itself was a nice building but the food was terrible. The veg was tasteless, like it had been sitting in a Bain Marie all day. The duck was dry, tough and also tasteless. Real shame as I was hoping to find a nice little gem of a pub to eat at on a regular basis. Hats off to the microwave technician (chef) who done a grand job of annihilating the pre packaged poor quality slop.
