This was my first time in the World Heritage city of Bath. I had included this shop (also a World Heritage site) on my sightseeing route, and planned to visit the underground after eating the lemon curd. Something happened when I was paying! I only had an AMEX card, no cash, and my smartphone payment wasn't being accepted, so I was in a lot of trouble, but the very cute and kind staff member Beth helped me in many ways to pay. It was the first time I've been treated so kindly overseas. I remember that she was smiling and had a very good attitude from the moment I entered the store. I'm very grateful. Thank you very much.

Went for dinner on Tuesday of this week to sample the traditional "trencher" meal, where the 'trencher' turned out to be half of a modern white bread bun. I was expecting a more rustic bread based on what was described on the website. I don't consider this to be "Historic Eating"!

I was so ecstatic to try this place for a while and when my friend had this on places to go whilst we’re in Bath, I was over the moon. They have an array of savoury and sweet bun options as well as an array of teas and other drinks to accompany your bun. Upon recommendation, we went for the French toast, a drizzle of syrup topped with bacon. The bun itself was soft and airy and was quite marvellous to bite into. Quite big as well. Well balanced savoury and sweet proportions. My lapsang tea served as a nice palette cleanser. The experience wouldn’t be complete without being able to buy their conserves and buns at the museum downstairs with a real-life model of how Sally curated her mastery. Lovely time here and would come back here again to try their other options.

A must-visit in Bath! Sally Lunn's is not just a restaurant; it's a step back in time. Housed in Bath's oldest building, the cozy ambience is truly special. I enjoyed the famous Sally Lunn bun, a delightful semi-sweet bread that's a local treasure. The food was delicious, and the service was friendly and attentive. Don't miss the small museum showcasing the history of Sally Lunn and her iconic buns. It's a perfect spot to soak up the history and culture of Bath.

Felt a bit of a nuisance on arrival along with 4 other tourists because I had a walking aid. Believe me when I say no one wants to use such a device but if you have blood cancer and your determined that it should not stop you then I’d say to hospitality staff be a bit more understanding and less judgmental or refrain from Letting it show on your face. Luckily the dark haired waitress was a real joy she was wonderful and served us very well. Having just left hospitality after 35 years service running hotels we understand how hard it becomes as we age. Swap staff around so everyone gets a turn as hostess. Everyone gets a chance to be refreshed.

Hmmmm.... I get the feeling this place is running off of nostalgia rather than quality of food. Went for dinner and ordered the pork trencher as part of the set meal. Wife had the chicken version. They were filling, but super bland. I would have been disappointed had I made this myself. Served with a side of totally unseasoned boiled veg. Even a whisper of butter or olive oil would have added something to this. We didn't experience the day time and breakfast offer, which may well be much better, but I would suggest you try one of the very many other options available in Bath for a dinner.

Visited Bath with my hist teacher and dined at this resto recommended by her and her husband. . I ordered Salt Beef Sally Lunn Bunn, a bun made from thier own traditional recipe home-cured salt beef with a honey mustard sauce. The beef was nicely marinated, and the tanginess of the mustard complemented the saltiness of the beef well. The bun was pleasantly soft. My hist teacher and her husband ordered Double Bacon Sally Lunn Bunn and Cinnamon Butter Sally Lunn Bunn respectively. The bacon bun featured their local dry-cured smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise. The cinnamon bun was spread with their famous cinnamon butter and toasted, offering an intense cinnamon flavour. . The restaurant was housed in a historic building established in 1482. In the basement, there was a tiny museum showcasing models of Sally making and baking the bread in the kitchen. The resto was incredibly popular and we waited for more than 15 mins to be seated.

Most of the reviews for Sally Lunn's are from those visiting during the day. We chose to go the relaxed unhurried route and booked for an evening meal. We went for the history and the experience but it was so much more. The set menu of two courses with a glass of wine for £20 was such good value. The cauliflower soup for the starter was simply excellent. The mains on a trencher (a thick slice of bread) were surprisingly good. I went for the pork a recipe dating from Bath's Georgian period and which was simply a delight for the taste buds. The flavours something to savour. My wide went for a equally delicious vegetarian option of squash and aubergine (egg plant) with goats cheese. Most people we noted stuck to the set menu and didn't try the desserts. They were missing a treat. The rice pudding, creamy and delicious with a sprinkling of cinnamon is definitely recommended. Give Sally's a try you won't be disappointed.

Biggest disappointment in Bath. I visited this place with my dad on a trip to Bath. Many people said this place is a must-visit so we stopped for the bun and tea. Beyond the long queue, once we were in there, the food took a really long time to arrive. The food tasted good, but the major reason why this place is a big disappointment is the service. We had asked if we could pay in cash, and were told it's okay. Firstly, we were given the wrong bill and got change that was short by almost 10 quid. Might I add, all this change was in coins...yes. All 20 pence coins... We were building towers to count, and it was an absolute inconvenience. Upon pointing out the mistake and getting the right bill for our table, we were surprised to get even more change! When we asked a staff member (Beth) to politely give us notes instead of a literal bag of coins, she told us that we should understand because it's Christmas and no one has change? I'm sorry since when is Christmas time an excuse for handing off a bag of coins? It was frankly very poor service, and it felt as though we were brushed off. As tourists in Bath, this was unfortunately the biggest disappointment of the city, that too solely for the service which ruined the whole memory of dining here.

Bethany was brilliant, couldn't fault her! Lovely girl! However, the atmosphere from the superiors was somewhat concerning. Management need to recognise good staff and treat them accordingly!

Overall an incredible experience. The waitress was kind, attentive, and articulate. I had the Welsh Rarebit Special which was good in component, however, the bun was exceptional. It paired well with the tea blend but can very well stand on its own

Wow, we went for afternoon tea and had a Bath bun. Lovely and light texture but so much of it, neither of us managed to eat all of it

Bath is a magical place and dinner at this location made it iconic! The buns were delicious- with delightful vegetarian options. The chamomile tea that I had was great too- all served in beautiful silverware. I loved the small setting and ambience of this place! December was a good time to visit !!

Tasty bun, good enough diversity for bun options. I recommend coming around 10:30 for brunch so you don't have to wait in line. Service was friendly and mostly efficient.

The upside is the location and experience. Lunch is overrated and overpriced for what you get; a simple half bun with a poor layer of sweet and/or savory. My partner had “French toast” for £12 which was a half bun, dipped in a miniature bit of egg on one side (you couldn’t really taste it) and a couple of strips of bacon... Felt like an expensive tourist trap, but the setting is nice and I read dinner is good (and a better price/quality balance).

I had SUCH a delicious meal at Sally Lunn's Historic Eating House. I went by on a busy Saturday around 2pm, with no reservation. I only waited about fifteen minutes for a table for one. The staff is very friendly and efficient there. I ordered vegetable soup that came with half of a famous bun with cheese melted in it that was perfect for dipping in the soup. Then, I had a bun covered in cream cheese with smoked salmon on it and a lemon for seasoning that also came with a small, fresh salad. I had Sally's blended coffee to drink. It was such a delicious meal and my server was fast, friendly, and precise. You can get take away from the museum/gift shop, but I recommend sitting down and having a meal in the famous space there. It was a delicious meal.

Lovely historic period property with a faithful reproduction of the original bakery in the basement. The dining area upstairs was nicely decorated and had the effect of transporting you back in time. The food was of great quality and the service was good. Highly recommended if passing through Bath.

Ordered 4 mains and 2 courses for one person but they might have heard incorrectly. Anyway, they served 2 pots of tea without telling anything so I told them "we did not order it." The waitress replied to me "it comes with a set" supposed to be only one pot but I just ignored it. Later, they brought 2 bowls of soups and I felt it was not right. Therefore, I asked whether the set is minimum for 2 or for 1. If it is minimum for 2, I was willing to pay for it as my mistake. Anyway, they gave me the menu and I insisted I ordered 2 courses for one person only. The waitress asked if I wanna eat or let her take it back. Why bothering to ask if I wanna eat it. What a disappointment of service in the historical restaurant. However, trenchers are quite well but not outstanding. Its buttery bread is soft as well.

Lots of choice for fresh meat, cheeses and homemade bakes. My partner bought a huge pork pie and said it was delicious, I had a scotch egg and it was amazing. Picked up some cute cards and elderflower fizz.

Visited a few days ago but disappointed after going many times but i can only say the food was really nice as always but a few slip ups, after ordering a red wine from the list it was brought to the table and just put down, not opened and asked if we needed to taste which is what normally happens then we had to ask for a finger bowl when served king prawns and then one us ordered the main king prawn with tagliatelle and was served the starter instead but when we questioned this was told we did say in the kitchen so why did no one come and question and the partridge should have been given with this, and as it was a birthday meal I was very sad about the staff not really being happy that night, but cannot fault the food at all.

March 2025: my second visit so updated review. Food every bit as divine as last time....wonderful service, exquisite drinks pairing and cosy, calm and comfortable surroundings. I wont leave it as long for my nect visit. Previous review from 2023: I love tasting menus and a bit of experimentation. They certainly like to innovate and experiment here, I've had some completely new tasting experiences today with the 9 course menu and accompanying wine flight. The standout dishes on the current menu is a to-die-for pea dish, like a pea mousse with caviar, it was mouthwatering. The lobster dish with a gorgeous sauce, butter and sweetcorn, is absolutely divine. Also the bread they served, I don't usually like bread, but this was out-of-this-world, seriously, I devoured it. The resteraunt were great at giving me substitutes for things I really hate, specifically goats cheese which is strong and abundant in one dish, veal/deer and beef tartare (not for me!!!), they gave me lovely alternatives and were really nice about it. Great, place, I will be back.
