The food, service, cleanliness etc were all good, and we all enjoyed it. BUT, I DO NOT agree with 12.5% being added to the bill. It's always awkward in company to ask for it to be removed. I always tip in cash and although I was happy with things, I am not happy with being forced into paying extras.

Fantastic buns and a really friendly but also professional service from staff! We felt really looked after and welcomed. It's a lovely, quaint place. My only small (hopefully constructive) comment would be that it is a bit confusing on arrival - To help others: There are 'two' queues - The long one was for sitting in the Bun house itself to sit down and eat / drink at a table, BUT if you just want to see the little museum room and buy a take away Bun there was no queue for that when we went - But you had to ask everyone else if they were queuing for the cafe before realising you could just pop in to get a Bun to take away. A sign explaining the two different 'activities' so to speak would help to stop confusion I think if people were deterred by the queue from just popping in for a Bun quickly. But anyway it was a great experience and the tea room is lovely and homely in its decor 😍 And the staff were exemplary!

We asked for a cinnamon bun each and what came was half a bun covered in what I can only describe as brown slop, a mixture I was told of butter, cinnamon and sugar melted and poured over the bun. An absolutely disgusting combination that cost over £12 for two and which had no resemblance to a cinnamon bun as the rest of the universe know it! I had to ask for the bill twice yet the serving staff were kitchen-side having personal conversations. I asked for the service charge to be removed and the server said I had to pay it at which point I pointed out it was discretionary but since they didn't know what that meant, they had to ask the manager, who removed said charge. A very disappointing experience.

I came in today for a pot of tea and Sally Lunn bun with lemon curd. There was hardly any lemon curd on bun and to fill it out there was a dollop of butter in the middle. I was asked if everything was ok and pointed out that not as good as previous times. Nothing taken off bill. Waitress was also very sullen . Not impressed

Very popular historic spot in Bath so be prepared to wait for a table. We had to try the famous buns, a milk jam for me and a fruit jam for my daughter. Lemon curd would have been yummy too. These were all very sizeable so we unfortunately couldn’t fit any dessert in though it did sound tasty

Serendipitous Moments on Honeymoon from Edinburgh to York, to Rotherham, to Leicester and London. Only a few days earlier, my husband found accommodations in Bath for a 3-day stay - we hadn't planned it, though we had wanted to see Bath. Still, it just didn't figure into our planning. We are still talking about Sally Lunn’s and it’s been two weeks, so we thought we should let you know just what a wonderful welcome it was on our first visit to Bath. We had, minutes earlier, arrived at the railway station and simply began walking toward our accommodations, hoping to spot a place for a midday meal and we were drawn to the narrow stone road and the view of some lovely old shops. And there we were at your door feeling very hungry and certain that Sally Lunn’s food would do the trick. My husband had the “Open Club” and I tried the Welsh Rarebit. Usually we are quite chatty with each other, but there was quite a period where all we could do was murmur ‘mmmmmm’ sounds. If there ever were a place that served Comfort Food, it’s Sally Lunn. Thank you for the experience! Kindest regards from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada!

It is a very old shop, in central Bath. Upstairs is the restaurant, which we did not go to . We went down the narrow, ancient stairs to the basement museum ( which is every bit as touristyas you would expect). We got a couple of the famous bath buns to go. They are huge, but surprisingly light. We had them the next day, toasted, with butter. Yum!

After watching the Bath bun episode by MAX Miller, I always wanted to go there, I visited this place twice and has always had a wonderful experience, The history is significant, The Bath Bun is a very important milestone in baking and this bun house has a historical connection to the origin story, The original bakery is still preserved and its a Glimpse in to 400 years back, The modern day bath bun and having a meal in this place is a great experience, There are multiple options, having tea with sweet buns or having a main meal, The food is amazing and the service is spectacular, There is a special vibe, visiting this bun house has become an essential ritual for me when visiting Bath, Would be returning to this location on my next visit hungry for more

I came him admittedly a long time ago and back then was far better than now. I remembered a bath bun being really nice and the food really standing out and I can't say it did. We were seated on the middle floor which was very lackluster when compared to downstairs. There isn't a special feel to the place and it just looks like any old cafe trying to be vintage. The staff running around didn't seem to enjoy working there and I felt the service was very forced. I had better food earlier in the day at a nice deli.

Sally Lunn’s Historic Eating House is located in Bath, England. It is a tea room and restaurant with a history of more than 300 years, attracting many international tourists to taste the famous Sally Lunn bread. The historic building is an attraction in itself, as Sally Lunn, a French immigrant, is said to have created her unique light sweet bread here in the 1680s, which remains the restaurant's signature today. For visitors from all over the world, Sally Lunn’s is not only a great place to enjoy a traditional British meal, but also a historical experience. Walking into this ancient building is like traveling back to Bath in the 17th century. The wooden beams and simple decoration are full of history. The Sally Lunn Bun served here can be paired with sweet or savory ingredients, from cream and jam to smoked salmon and chicken, and is packed with flavor in every bite. In addition to enjoying delicious food, visitors can visit the historic building's museum, explore the ruins of an ancient kitchen and bread oven found in the basement, and gain insight into the tea room's historical background. Sally Lunn’s is an important part of the history and food culture of the city of Bath. For international tourists, it provides not only a meal, but also a journey of taste and history.

I was excited to go and experience Sally Lunns. I first went downstairs to see the museum and shop. I knew I just had to buy bun in the cute willow pattern box. I bought 6, yum yum. I went back upstairs and waited to be seated. I waited and waited. I could see some staff through the glass in the door. They could see me but they didn't come. So I made my way upstairs. Met a charming young girl who told me I had to go back downstairs and wait to be seated. I waited and waited again. Just as I was about to leave a guy came and I asked him had he got a free table. Yes he did. But he then got distracted by someone behind me and I had to wait again. After a while I got my table, ordered the Sally bun with cinnamon butter and the house blend coffee. It's was sublime. Best thing I've tasted in years. I can see why this place is on the map for hundreds of years. I loved the food but the staff let this place down. Customers need attention, not much but a welcome and prompt attention from the downstairs staff would be great. The waitress upstairs was great, smiling and so attentive.

We visited for dinner. The food was good overall. But I think the bread is overrated. It is soft but it tasted just fine (all dishes come on the bread). A brioche would taste better, I think because it has milk among its ingredients. But to be fair, we haven't tried the sweet version of the bread. We had tomato soup, which was hearty and good. For the main dishes, we had the duck trencher and the vegetarian one (with aubergine and feta cheese). The duck mix with gravy was delicious. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was nice and cozy.

Trying Sally Lunns famous buns was an experience we couldn’t miss in Bath, it was raining on day and what better way to warm yourself up with a warm tea and cinnamon bun with clotted cream, my partner had the scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream, to drink we had an English breakfast tea with loose tea which was delightful and caramel latte which came out cold and we requested it to be warmed up and was replaced. Slightly expensive at £27 for both but worth the experience. Service was a bit slow but I’ll give them the benefit of doubt as it was fairly busy.

came with my dad on a monday evening for their £20 dinner special (appetiser and main with a complimentary glass of wine). my dad got the sally lunn bun garlic bread and the pork stew dish (also served on a toasted bun) with a glass of white wine, while i got the soup and braised beef dish (served on toasted bun, extra £2 charge) and a glass of rosé. food took quite long to come because i think they're short-staffed (only 2 staff and a full house) but Joseph was lovely. food was not bad but i had to add salt. i would recommend doing what i did for a party of two so you can share the garlic bread as croutons to dip into the soup for the appetiser. lovely vibe and decor. came in time for the jane austen festival so dining alongside victorian-era clothing clad ladies made the experience more enjoyable. TLDR historical place worth a visit. £20 pp dinner (excluding 10% service charge) is good value for money in bath. food comes a bit slowly but savour the moment! nicely decorated restaurant.

Amazing vintage breakfast in a historic house! Got recommended by a friend and it is so vintage and grandma core inside. They only serve the breakfast menu from 10-11:30 and the day menu from 11:30. We tried their famous bun, it is a lot larger than I imagined. The cinnamon butter bun I went for is very good, the cinnamon butter is the perfect sweetness with the crispy crust on the bun is a great breakfast. The clotted cream goes perfect with it so I’d recommend it! I also tried the house blend tea, the tea pot is gorgeous, I wish the tea is a bit stronger. Overall it’s a nice experience eating at the oldest house in Bath. There’s also a small museum downstairs and a small gift shop that’s very cool. The restaurant on the other hand is somewhat different, we were greeted by a young lady with a messy bony tail, she was somewhat aggressive, no smile, placed us right under the AC , and walked away, I had to get up and go to here in the kitchen! to ask her to move us, all what she did was to point to another table for us to set with displeasure! Didn’t move the menus, didn’t care if the new table was clean or suitable. The waiter had almost the same cold attitude. ( tall blond young man) The only pleasant person there was the guy who brought the hot drinks( with glasses). It’s a large, light, and airy bun, similar in texture to brioche, and is known for its soft and slightly sweet flavor. The bun is unique because it can be enjoyed in both sweet and savory forms. Traditionally, it’s served warm with butter, jam, clotted cream, or even savory toppings like smoked salmon or roast beef. History The history of the Sally Lunn bun dates back to the late 17th century. According to local legend, the bun was introduced to Bath by a French Huguenot refugee named Solange Luyon, who became known in the area as Sally Lunn. She is said to have brought the recipe from France, where similar light, buttery breads were popular. Sally Lunn began selling her buns in Bath, and they quickly became a favorite treat among the locals. The Sally Lunn Eating House The Sally Lunn bun is so iconic that it has its own dedicated eating house in Bath, known as Sally Lunn’s Historic Eating House. This establishment claims to be the original home of the bun and operates in one of the oldest houses in Bath, dating back to the 15th century. Visitors to the eating house can enjoy a taste of history by trying the buns prepared according to the traditional recipe, which has been passed down through generations. Distinction Unlike the denser and sweeter Bath bun, the Sally Lunn bun is characterized by its light and fluffy texture. This makes it a versatile bread, suitable for a variety of toppings and fillings, whether sweet or savory. The Sally Lunn bun remains a beloved part of Bath’s culinary heritage, drawing visitors from around the world who wish to experience this delicious piece of history.

I didn't get a chance to sit down and eat because the que and the wait time was too long but I am reviewing the museum downstairs, the staff and the food bought from the shop. The little museum display downstairs was very nice, the takeaway Sally Lunn bun was okay, I thought it just tasted of normal bread to be honest. The lady serving in the shop/museum downstairs looked like she didn't want to be there and fed up, when I asked her if there was any difference between the boxes of Sally Lunns buns on display she quickly snapped 'They are both the same' she didn't seem friendly at all. However the lady upstairs who was waiting to sit people seemed happy and friendly.

Came around 630pm, seated and immediately ordered 645pm. Food served more than an hour at past 8pm'ish! Total waste of time waiting. Eat the food less than 30min, waitress keep on looking to us as if wanting us to bill out immediately! Will not go back again! Though food was great but not happy at all!

I got exactly the experience I expected: a wonderful historical experience, in a restaurant that’s known for its history more than its food. I had the set menu, and the soup was lovely but the main course (stew and vegetables) a bit TOO historically accurate in its lack of seasoning and tough meat. Service was a bit cold and awkward, which surprised me in a hospitality town, but I would honestly still bring friends there for the experience and atmosphere.

Situated just round the bend from the beautiful Chew Valley Lake. So you can feed the birds & then yourselves. A well run cafe with a good menu and plenty of seating.
