Excellent service at this place. After standing in queue for 45min, the staff's politeness, friendliness and efficiency is definitely appreciated. In terms of food, I'm not sure if I would've missed out on much if I'd skipped it entirely and just gone down to the shop to grab a bun, and toasted it at home! We ordered 3 half buns: French Toast (unremarkable), Milk Jam (decent), and Welsh Rarebit (nice). The Americano coffee was more of a Filter Coffee. Worth a visit when you're in Bath, only if you're interested in its history, and if you like doing slightly quirky things when you visit new places.

Whilst the historical aspect is impressive, the length of time queuing vs. the quality of food was not entirely worth it. It was expensive for what it was. The museum downstairs is a nice touch, but it would be good to have some more signs explaining the history and significance of the building/bread.

Tried the cinnamon bun with friends as we felt we had to try something from here, with it being one of Bath's oldest buildings! I wasn't expecting much as I thought it'd just be a simple bun but to my surprise, it was delicious and had a lovely texture! My friend also tried the Sally Lunn tea blend, which she said was really nice. Seemed to be a popular place as people were queueing outside. We came at a less busier time, so we didn't have to wait too long. It was such a cute and cozy environment - it sort of felt like a little tea party room. They also have a small museum inside where you can buy the spreads and buns.

Sorry it was disappointing, I visited today, don’t get me wrong the cafe with it’s history is great, service was great, but I was really disappointed with what is essentially half a bread cake. We ordered the salt beef bun, and the cream tea. The salt beef came which was half of a bread cake with 3 small slices of beef and 3 slices of pickle, it was underwhelming for a £14 charge, the cream tea was the other half of the bun with a small ramekin of jam and clotted cream, that came with a pot of tea which was £12 slightly better value. I get it’s popular and a tourist attraction, but I’m sorry £37 for what is really 1 whole barm cake, 3 slices of meat, a small pot of Jam and cream and 2 drinks is a lot to pay!

Disappointed with the Experience It was my first time visiting Sally Lunn’s in Bath, and unfortunately, the experience wasn’t great. The service was lacking, and cleanliness was an issue — the glasses and cups were dirty, and we had to ask for replacements. Even when we requested an extra cup, we were told it was against the rules, which felt unwelcoming. We ordered scones and tea — the food was okay, but overall, the visit was disappointing due to the poor service and hygiene.

The location is charming, and the staff were attentive. Our food came out super fast, so we weren’t waiting long at all. They were great about getting us seated despite arriving during lunch hour and there being a long line. The food is good, though not remarkable. I had the Brie and cranberry bun and added bacon, which was our favorite dish. The lemon curd bun was mediocre, and the open club was nothing we could not have made at home. But it seemed like the people around us enjoyed their food and it’s a fun place to spend lunch in bath because it is an experience beyond just the food. We did like the food, but just didn’t feel it was extraordinary. People must think it’s extraordinary for the business to stay running for so many years!

I went after my tour was over in Bath while waiting for the tour bus to come and Sally Lunn Museum and Gift Shop was closed for lunch and I just had to leave for the bus. Lovely little historical eating house with delicious buns. The buns are a sweetened leavened dough you can order topped with various spreads. We had a Welsh Rarebit, Chocolate butter and cinnamon butter with tea. All were delicious. There was plenty of food for three people. A must-visit spot when in Bath - both for the food and the history. Housed in one of the city’s oldest buildings, dating back to around 1482, Sally Lunn’s is full of charm and character. The famous buns are light, delicate, and absolutely delicious - used as the base for a variety of flavourful dishes that are surprisingly filling. The service is friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. Just a heads-up: the stairs leading upstairs are narrow and uneven, a reminder of the building’s age and authentic preservation. But that only adds to its quaint, cosy, and atmospheric feel. There’s also a small museum downstairs, free to visit. Prices are reasonable, and you definitely won’t leave hungry.

We obviously had to try this historic eating house. The restaurant itself was super cute, well done to accommodate lots of guests, but also keep the charm. We arrived right at 10, as we hoped to take a 10:30 walking tour. We were sat, ordered, ate, drank, paid and left by about 10:25, so it was rushed, but doable! We ordered the cinnamon bun and lemon curd bun. The cinnamon was meh, but the lemon was fantastic! I wish I had done more research on the popular buns to make the experience better. We also ordered a latte and the chai which were below average.

Very lovely environment and friendly staff. The brioche was a little dry for my taste. The honey mustard was replaced with mayonnaise in salty beef brioche (correct me if I was wrong). I enter the place for afternoon tea, but not finding what I was looking for (classic cake stand with sandwiches, pastries etc) I order two simple scones and some tea. I was warned that the Bunns are nothing special... I politely ask a waiter if I can charge my cell phone a little. It would have taken ten minutes, but he was truly dead. To which the waiter tells me he would ask the manager. Shortly after he comes back and tells me I can't?!? I was frankly surprised. I said it was completely empty, and they saw that I was a solo traveller, a foreigner and a woman. What's the problem? I would have liked to enjoy this tea by being able to call my boyfriend, take some nice photos and have peace of mind knowing I could find my way back to the station easily and having my digital bus ticket consultable. I felt really unwelcome. In the end I hurried to finish and at the time of the bill I pointed out to the lady that I didn't understand the reason for this unreasonable rudeness. He told me that if I had to pay the bill on my phone he would make me charge it (even though I had already paid)! The audacity! 😡 I managed to get to London after three hours on the bus and found my way to the hostel, but if I needed to make a phone call or had an emergency there was nothing I could do. If the old lady has a daughter who travels, I sincerely hope that they don't treat her like this abroad. Considering the scones and tea were nothing special, as well as overpriced, and this treat, frankly go somewhere else.

We are not the biggest tea fans either, but the Sally Lunn blend was excellent and we ended up bringing 2 boxes of it home! The gift shop and museum are small, but still great because they use the space they are given whilst still keeping the history alive. Sorry but I really don’t get the hype of this one. Lots of friends and media recommended this place so we decided to pay a visit when we finally visited bath. First thing you would notice is that the queue outside is quite long, but you cannot find any staff or any directions for anything. For example, if you just want to visit the museum and shop, you could skip the queue. But there were no signs or staff to tell you anything, and this is because it is severely understaffed. There are only like 2-3 staff doing all the front work and this extends the waiting time for every action. Want a table? Wait for 30 mins queue + 5 min wait at the front Want to order? Give them 10 mins Paying your bill? You have to actively seek them otherwise you might have to stay the whole afternoon. Though I must say, under this harsh working condition, staff are still polite and efficient. They are working their ass off already, so I think it is the management’s fault here. Food wise, we both think it is overrated. We didn’t go for the salty Sally Lunn buns because they cost £13 each and I saw it is just some meat put on top a full bun without drinks. Instead we opted for sweet buns which are half a bun plus jam or other flavours with cream and a pot of tea for ~£11 The real disappointment is that there is nothing special about this meal. The buns are only lightly toasted on top and the rest taste like the daily breakfast loaf you eat at home, the jam is unremarkable as well. I had the lemon one and it is very normal, the sugar coated fresh lemon is good but there’s only one small slice. Don’t get me wrong there is nothing with this meal but there’s also nothing justifying the wait times and price. Though they have quite a wide range of tea selection and it is the redeeming factor for an extra star. The museum and shop area is also extremely small and doesn’t smell pleasant. It seems the toilet fumes from up above are leaking into the basement. All in all I don’t see the need to revisit this place at all as there are better options nearby whether you want lunch or tea.

I was so ecstatic to try this place for a while and when my friend had this on her list of places to go whilst we’re in Bath, I was over the moon. They have an array of savoury and sweet bun options as well as an array of teas and other drinks to accompany your bun. Upon recommendation, we went for the French toast, a drizzle of syrup topped with bacon. The bun itself was soft and airy and was quite marvellous to bite into. Quite big as well. Well balanced savoury and sweet proportions. My lapsang tea served as a nice palette cleanser. The experience wouldn’t be complete without being able to buy their conserves and buns at the museum downstairs with a real-life model of how Sally curated her mastery. Lovely time here and would come back here again to try their other options.

I had the brie and cranberry bun which was delicious and went really well with their own tea blend. The apple cake was amazing too. The staff were lovely and attentive. The cafe itself is cosy and quirky. When we arrived there was a queue to get in but it was certainly worth it. I'd highly suggest going, you won't regret it.

Friendly staff and nice ambience. We went down to the museum which is more of a display. It's a nice tribute. I had the Welsh rarebit and my husband had the lemon curd bunn. They were nice enough but nothing mind-blowing. The coffee was not great, in retrospect we should have ordered tea instead.

Visited Bath with my hist teacher and dined at this resto recommended by her and her husband. . I ordered Salt Beef Sally Lunn Bunn, a bun made from thier own traditional recipe home-cured salt beef with a honey mustard sauce. The beef was nicely marinated, and the tanginess of the mustard complemented the saltiness of the beef well. The bun was pleasantly soft. My hist teacher and her husband ordered Double Bacon Sally Lunn Bunn and Cinnamon Butter Sally Lunn Bunn respectively. The bacon bun featured their local dry-cured smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise. The cinnamon bun was spread with their famous cinnamon butter and toasted, offering an intense cinnamon flavour. . The restaurant was housed in a historic building established in 1482. In the basement, there was a tiny museum showcasing models of Sally making and baking the bread in the kitchen. The resto was incredibly popular and we waited for more than 15 mins to be seated.

We visited here as part of a city break to Bath….and had to try the famous Buns!! We queued for around half an hour for a table - which I think is to be expected for such a sought after spot. The bun tasters similar to a brioche bun. I tried the Bath Cream Tea, with a cinnamon butter bun. This was delicious. And the Sally Lunn blend tea was lovely. We wondered downstairs to the museum - this was more of a display area of the old kitchen used to make the buns as opposed to a museum, with a little souvenir shop.

The Google says the shop is open till 10.30 pm on weekends. Last weekend on a Saturday, went and approached the staff for seating. They said prior booking is required. We did book a slot at 8 pm the same evening. When showed the confirmation, the staff said they haven't received the confirmation and didn't let us in. Extremely rude and racist behavior! Totally unacceptable and unbearable!

Well, where to start? The building and atmosphere are simply incredible...to say I had a historic breakfast would be an understatement. The breakfast itself is up there with the best I've had, and I've had a few over my many years. The ingredients used were very obviously top quality and local. Thank you for a lovely feast.

Very kind and friendly waiter. Food was OK, nothing stood out. Service was slow and broken. They served half our party and then the rest of the plates arrived 30 mins later

visited today for my annual visit .. usually good but so incredibly disappointing today. whilst not busy, too 10 minites to take the order (house blend tea, and a bun this time) tea arrived quickly, but had to chase for the toast 10 minutes later.. tea quality was the poorest I've had anywhere. (pictures attached) mentioned to the supervisor and she robustly defended it despite showing her the tea dust/dreggs/sand grains. not at all happy (and the toast arrived when the tea was cold)

I recently visit Sally Lunn’s located in Bath, known for its delicious bunns! The restaurant has a charming atmosphere, —it is one of the oldest buildings in Bath! The service was excellent with attentive staff. I was there on a Saturday around midday and I didn’t have to queue, just waited a few seconds to be given a seat. I ordered a traditional ham & piccalilli bunn which was amazingly delicious. This is my third time in this restaurant and I always try to order bunns with different toppings. I also tried the double bacon bunn and the jam bunn. Needless to say each one of them has been tremendously delicious. The prices were reasonable for the quality, and I would definitely return for another great experience. Highly recommended !!!

Sally Lunns definitely got nice Buns, after all that is what they are famous for, so it’s to be expected. We opted for the Welsh Rarebit special which comes on the Bottom half of the bun, very tasty and a good spot for a light lunch.

We very much forward to our historic building visit with a tour and a visit to bakery plus a traditional meal in the little restaurant. Sadly, there was nothing outside to indicate there were staff shortages and the historic part was closed. So it all felt half hearted. Such a shame, when we'd planned out weekend with this as our finale. There was a varied menu available but we opted for the traditional fayre. It was quirky. The experience didnt quite meet my expectations on this occasion. The staff, that were fit to work, were hard working, organised and very friendly. I emphasise this is a very small restaurant so booking, I feel, is essential.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Sally Lunn’s Historic Eating House, and it was truly a delightful experience! The atmosphere is charming and steeped in history, making it a perfect spot for both locals and tourists. The signature Sally Lunn bun is an absolute must-try! It was light, fluffy, and perfectly toasted, making it the star of the meal. Paired with a variety of flavorful toppings, each bite was a delicious journey. The staff was warm and welcoming, providing exceptional service throughout our visit. They were knowledgeable about the menu, offering great suggestions that added to our enjoyment. The history of the place adds an extra layer of charm. It’s fascinating to enjoy a meal in a setting that dates back centuries. The quaint decor and cozy atmosphere made it an unforgettable meal. Overall, I highly recommend Sally Lunn's for anyone looking to enjoy a tasty meal in a unique and historical setting. I can’t wait to return!

This place is a bit of a tourist rip off. The “bun” is basically a white bread roll. The tea was lovely but the smoked salmon bun at £13 was pretty horrible. Take yourself somewhere else instead. Expensive bad breakfast.

Lovely pub with nice people, delicious drinks and reasonable prices. It is a place that I can fully recommend because everything fits and somehow harmonizes here. Great music (DJ or live), delicious beer, suitable decor and friendly staff. I hope that one day I'll have the opportunity to drink three beers here again. ;-)
