Been there a few times and it’s always been lovely. Completely different experience this time. Took 40 minutes to get a menu (was told there wasn’t enough) told they’d bring our drinks to the table and just left them on the side. A dog came out the kitchen half way through our meal. Tables didn’t get cleared at the end when we ordered coffee. Service was absolutely shocking but luckily my food was better. 3 of our group had the gammon however and ended up poorly through the night. Unfortunately I won’t be going back despite really enjoying this place previously.

Service was very poor young girls serving, poor communication skills. party of 8 food was good except for t bone steak which was cooked good but quality of the t bone was poor not worth the £32 . Nobody came and asked how the food was so didn’t say anything till the end when they decide to clear the table, we mention we wasn’t happy with how the t bone was, the young girl didn’t know how to respond to compliments nothing was sorted , didn’t even come to ask if we wanted desserts so we went to pay the bill we mentioned it the girl at bar who was taking payment only to be ignored again when mentioned about the steak , so we paid and left . It was my partner’s 50th birthday meal we will not be returning really disappointed with the t bone and service .

We visited a couple of times whilst staying at a local site. The food was freshly cooked and delicious both times. The burger was fantastic with home cooked chips! The service was excellent despite being busy both times. Prices were very reasonable and there was a good selection on the menu for both adults and children. I would recommend booking as it does get busy. Make sure you give this place a visit.

I was out in the area and booked a table at the Wheatsheaf as a stop off point for lunch. The food is amazing and reasonably priced. The sandwiches and burgers were delicious and were well presented on wooden serving boards with some lovely handmade chips in a basket & side salad or 3 large onions rings. The service was a little slow but they were quite busy and it was worth the wait. The interior decor could do with an update in my opinion but other than that the experience was excellent. Friendly staff and very welcoming. Will definitely have food there again when I'm passing.

Just eaten at The Wheatsheaf and have say that we can not recommend enough. Even though we have a pub of our own….Was greeted by Erin and Jamie (who it turns out was the chef) and felt instantly at ease. The service at the bar and table was faultless and the food was beautifully cooked and presented. 5 stars to both mentioned…. We will be back, Neil & Chelle

Visited with family including two young children whilst on holiday nearby. We were made to feel so welcome even though we weren't "locals" and even regular customers took the time to talk to us which was lovely. The food was delicious and the best fish we have eaten in a long time. The prices were very reasonable and the quality was excellent. We will be returning if we are ever in the area again.

Was welcomed from the first second that I walked in. Had an extended stay nearby for 4 months and used the pub a lot. I can honestly say that I have very little to complain about here, the staff are all friendly and efficient, the food is generous, fresh and top quality, very reasonably priced and the place is always full of diners and locals. They must be doing something right! It is dog friendly and my pooch was treated like one of the family whenever she came in with me. It can get a bit busy and the service slows down but that happens in any pub regardless of the number of staff. Don't be put off by the negative reports, the staff all work very hard here and are always willing to go the extra mile to make people's dining experience worthwhile. I would be proud to call this my local! Well done to Ian, Jackie and the girls, thanks for looking after us and hope to be back soon.

This must be the best local to Boston pub/restaurant. warm and friendly. waitress small girl with very short blonde hair, gave brilliant service. The food was excellent my husband and i had the pie wow, fabulous, our friend had the T bone, onion rings large hot and crispy. The desert was devilishly good sticky toffee pud. great choice of drinks, bar ladies very accommodating, a very nice place.

Went today for Sunday lunch. Had a choice of 4 different meats, plus a fish choice, I had the beef, which was tender and delicious, and plenty of it. There was 5 vegetables, cooked with som crunchiness remaining. Mashed and roast potatoes, the roast potatoes are crispy and cooked just as roast potatoes should be. The gravy is really nice, and has some substance not the usual watery stuff you get in other places. The price is reasonable and great value for money. The staff are lovely, so friendly and always smiling. As in any restaurant you have a short wait for your food, but the atmosphere is so comfy it’s not issue to have a drink and sit and wait the few minutes it takes. This is just a lovely experience and all 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. We will definitely be back. Thank you

After been stood at the bar for 10 minutes waiting to be served while the staff milled about looking at various things such as gin and bookings. A man approached the bar and got served straight away while I was stood still waiting to be served. I asked the waitress if I was stood at the wrong part of the bar and she replied no we serve here too. This was the first time visiting here and definitely the last , I’m unsure why I was left waiting when the other 3 men who went to the bar got served straight away.

Arrived for a stay nearby and went to this pub for food. We entered and took a table as there was a large group at the bar being seated. We were then approached, quite rudely, and asked what name our reservation was in. We didn't have one as we'd just arrived on holiday and were advised that they were fully booked that evening. I asked if they could offer any advice on where we could eat nearby as I had children with me who needed to eat. The first woman that we spoke to was unhelpful so I asked two other ladies at the bar who suggested some local alternatives. A sign outside advising that they were fully booked could have avoided the whole situation, one for them for the future maybe? My mum, niece (age 8) and nephew (age 6) were quite upset at the way we were spoken to.

We visited here on a Wednesday evening for my dad's 68th birthday and he had nearly turned 69 by the time we left. The service was appalling. After being seated in the bar we were left for a long period before being given our menus and drinks. Nobody returned to take our food order and I ended up going to the bar to place our choices. The food took a very long time to arrive, and when it did the staff were not apologetic or even polite. The food itself was excellent and faultless, very good portions and value. However the attitude and rudeness of the staff on duty spoilt what should be a special evening.

The food was fantastic but the service was terrible. I asked to be seated in the restaurant having booked it 2 weeks prior but was stuck on a table in the bar. The service was really slow to the extent after sitting for 30 mins waiting for our plates to be taken away I had to ask for service. I ordered coffee and that took another 30 mins to arrive after I had to ask again. The staff appeared to be hanging around in the bar chatting. As I said the food was amazing which went a long way to not ruining my birthday meal with my friends. I will go again but not at a weekend.

We ate here on Saturday night, the food was amazing my partner had a huge gammon and I had lava rock steak, but they don't tell you what to do with it so I ended up over cooking it. It's nicely presented on a wooden slate but I feel they should give you an extra plate to put your steak on when it's cooked to your liking as there's nowhere to put it?Atmosphere was dull in the restaurant, obviously with coronavirus it won't be busy unfortauntelyWe sat with our empty glasses at the end of our table for 25 minutes before we managed to get eye contact to get another drink which is disappointing seen as you're not allowed to get up from your table. They ask when they bring cutlery if you'd like any sauces - we asked for brown and tomato and never got given these - again, the restaurant wasn't busy but we couldn't gauge anyones attention for them to get us sauces until half way through the meal when they weren't needed anymore!Food was good, service could do with a kick up the backside

Garlic bread with cheese was cheese on toast with no garlic. Stilton burger lacked the cheese and had no flavour. Treacle pudding was microwaved and smaller than a tangerine, not worth the £4.95 price tag. Sent uneaten desert back but still had to pay full price, no apology or offer of replacement. Used to enjoy coming here as the food was good value for money. It would seem they are trying to be something special now and focus on the food looking good rather than tasting good. I'm glad I made the effort to explore as the food was superb and a step above that served at the hotel, which in itself wasn't bad. Fresh produce, well cooked and well presented, in fact one of the best pub meals I've partaken of. The chosen ale was a perfect compliment. All in a convivial atmosphere and with cheerful, efficient service. I will certainly return for more on my next visit. I can add that there is an excellent selection of vegetarian options on the menu if you are so inclined.

The family, complete with our 18 month old granddaughter, met at this traditional country pub one Saturday for lunch. The place did come recommended by friends and I have to say we were not disappointed. There was an extensive menu of pub food and tasty burgers. Of particular note was the special feature of being able to cook your own food (steaks, tuna and swordfish) at the table on a slab of piping hot Lava Rock. A couple of us chose this option taking care to keep our granddaughter’s little fingers away from the hot rock. In line with the generous main courses, the starters and puddings were also excellent. The food was supplemented by a very good selection of draught beers and lagers. With seating inside and out and a decent sized car park, the waterside location adds to the pleasant disposition of this very nice English pub. Overall, we found the food very tasty and served by friendly staff, the prices were reasonable and so we would have no hesitation in eating here again.

Highly recommend. Really lovely food and very friendly staff. We were a large party who booked beforehand and sent meals through, so service was prompt. My vegetarian meal was delicious and family members had Lava Rock steak which was a lovely touch and ensured your steak could be cooked exactly how you want it at the table. My kids gave the children’s meals a big thumbs up and the homemade cheesecakes were a big hit (especially the Junkyard which is a chocolate lover’s delight!) Overall, an excellent time was had in a very comfortable, warm and friendly pub with great food. We will certainly visit again!

I had a hogfather burger and it was so so nice! Normal beef burgers can be a bit boring I had a pork and apple burger, with pulled pork, melted cheese and bacon, salad, coleslaw and homemade chips. Tables outside and under cover if you wanted to eat or drink outside in the summer. Food isn’t over priced lots of choice and lots of homemade desserts. Been several times but recommend the burger to several friends already.

We stopped of for some food before shopping in Boston, we had been recommended this place from my mother. And wow we all was not disappointed. The burgers where juicy and tasty and the chicken moist and tasty. And twice cooked chips. Yummy. Lovely choice of drinks and amble parking. 100% going again

Our party of 9 including two vegetarians visited yesterday for a birthday/Mother’s Day meal. After a tricky start due to a communication error with the pre-ordering of the lava stones resulting in Sunday lunch being our only option (veggie sausages are the only non-meat meal) we received a sincere apology. I give five stars for friendly staff and service, delicious food, wine coolers, drink orders taken at table and delivered, generous portions and value for money. Will definitely return to try the lava stones and shall return for Sunday lunch sooner rather than later.

Staying nearby we did a bit of research on where to eat and thought we would give The Wheatsheaf a try. Cannot fault the service and the food was delicious. Nice, quiet surroundings too. Will definitely be giving The Wheatsheaf a return visit when next in the area.

We met another couple here as a half way point and were shown a table in the bar area. Good selection of traditional pub food available- I went for the battered haddock, batter light, fish perfectly cooked and presented with good portion of proper chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce. My wife’s lasagne served with salad, chips and garlic bread also got seal of approval but proved too much to eat it all. Our friends had chilli burger and seared tuna. The burger had onion rings that looked fabulous. Definitely a a bit of food envy. Also dog friendly. Why not 5 stars? We were on a weekend trip from the midlands and always look forward to trying local ales when away. The Wheatsheaf had Black Sheep, which was served well and the beer that appears to be everywhere at the moment, Doombar.

Arrived on a Friday at peak time. I was given options on wait time then served ahead of time indicated. Meal was exactly as described and well presented. Easy to recommend this pub food and will be back myself when at the Golf Hotel across the road.

We have often visited the Wheatsheaf as a family and always found them very accommodating and the food really good - however, not sure if new staff or not, but this particular time food was average and service poor - my daughter was refused an alcoholic drink despite being 19 - fair enough as she couldn’t produce her ID, but she then showed her uni ID photo (would have to be at least 18 to have this) and was still refused by the jobsworth behind the bar. Barmaid was lovely though. Will no longer be booking our family meals out at the Wheatsheaf.

Not visited for a number of years so decided to give another try! A change of owners have turned this pub around and believe me, one of the best lunch time meals I have ever had, a choice of small or large was offered on the beef roast and was advised to have the small as this was quite large in it's self, so small was ordered and to my surprise this was quite a large meal which was cooked to perfection and enjoyed every mouthful, delicious and no room for a sweet.

Was very upset and disappointed today when we turned up for my husband’s birthday with friends who had travelled two hours to surprise him to be told we had no booking. This was made almost a month ago and I even rang last weekend to double check the time and was told there was no booking. After explaining I was reassured that all had been rectified and it was all sorted and ‘in the book’ Today they said we booked on 1st November but I wasn’t even around that day as I was in Lincoln at an appointment. The 1st doesn’t even sound like 10th and I rang to double check on 3rd so that was after the 1st. I even said it was Remembrance Sunday so there was no mistaking the date. Definitely their error even though I was made to feel I had lied as ‘nothing was in the book’ Just got told they were full and nothing they could do. Wouldn’t be quite so bad had I not double checked the booking last weekend and yet they still got it wrong. Thank you for spoiling my husbands birthday and the surprise of our friends joining us when she had to ring to tell us there was a problem and thank you for leaving us with no lunch as everywhere was booked.

We haven't been here for years but decided to try it again after our usual diner was closed and we were pleasantly surprised. Same friendly family service and same competitive pricing as we remembered. I had the eggs Benedict and they were nearly perfect, eggs not quite runny enough but the quantity, quality and pricing were right. My partner had a toasted tea cake and we both had drinks, mine a cappuccino and my partners a pot of tea for one that actually provided sufficient for three. We will be back again in the near future.

There's 3 chaps including myself that dine out and this is our new favourite place. The haddock is a generous portion, the chips are freshly cooked and a good plate full. Not keen on the curry but that's just my taste buds. Gravy is nice and we will be using again very soon. Lovely staff and the cleanliness of the establishment are worth a mention also. Any visitors to Boston for fresh fish and chips should visit here

Went this evening 10th June 23, we have friends coming over next week and was looking for places to visit with them. What an absolute s**t hole The beer tasted like vinegar, children in the bar, no evidence of food being served. The place was utterly filthy cobwebs stained brown they were that old. We should have taken heed before we went in, we commented on all the dead hanging baskets. Didn’t finish our drinks, husband left his because it was so bad. Avoid at all costs, I don’t understand why so many good reviews it’s awful, in fairness we didn’t sample the food. Woman behind the bar was pleasant enough.
