We were looking forward to going to the wheatsheaf for a meal and it was bingo night which we thought would be a bit of fun. We ordered sharing Nachos as a starter and Gammon and chicken tikka for our mains. Everything came at the same time. So we asked them to take the mains away to keep them hot. When the mains came the garlic bread was burnt and I couldn't eat it I gave it to my dogs and the peas were to dry to eat. There was 3 bar staff in charge and after an hour no one came to take away the dishes away or to ask if everything was okay. The staff just sat at the end of the bar chatting among themselves and only got up if a customer wanted a drink. We didn't stay for the bingo and we will never go back to the Wheatsheaf again.

Lovely pub friendly service. Great cask ales. The food was great, the chips were, perhaps best I've had in a pub. The wife had the fish n chios and said the batter was light, fluffy, and full of fish. Great Barman, put in the Formula 1 qualifying for me. This is the type of pub grub, service and friendliness you want when you're a stranger in town. Go visit, I'm sure you will enjoy the experience as much as we did.

My husband and myself popped in after an afternoon out and neither of us wanted to cook when we got home. We arrived and were immediately made to feel welcome by (we presume) the landlady. She opened a tab for us and carried our drinks to the table we had selected. We had our puppy Frank with us and he was made a fuss of, offered treats and was made as welcome as we were. There were dog bowls with fresh water inside and outside the pub. We ordered the soup of the day - parsnip and apple, the garlic Kiev which was on the specials and the 10 oz gammon steak. The soup was hot, served with bread & butter and was absolutely delicious. My husband had the Kiev and he said the fries were lovely and the salad had soaked up all the garlic loveliness. He was more than happy with his meal. I had the gammon, which came with chips, egg and pineapple. I was apologetically advised there was no pineapple but I was offered 2 eggs instead. I declined the extra egg. My food was outstanding. My food was served hot, cooked perfectly and both meals were a good sized portion. We were both very happy and very full. This pub is what I consider to be a good old fashioned pub, a good selection of beers, ales and ciders, excellent classic pub food and good value for money. We will definitely be returning and taking Frank back too!

Firstly the pub : it's a littlemtired to be fair, the furniture is past ots best, the tables all worn and don't look the best. The pub inside is a little dark in places. There were no menus on the tables, and we were given one for a party of three. When ordering food we were told two out of the three meals were.not available, so back to the table to share the single menu, to choose again. It maybe would.make sense to advise people when they are given the menu of items not available. We waited thirty minutes to then ne told our order had not been given to the kitchen and we waited a further 25 minutes. No complimentary drinks offered, just sorry for your wait... if we had not already paid, we would have left. Now the food. This saved the review. The food was hot, fresh, well cooked, well presented and more importantly, delicious. The food alone would have us returning, the whole experiences maybe not.

Garstang is unfortunately full of extremely average pubs, with the Wheatsheaf being one of them. A very standard range of real ale on, and not kept at a particularly good quality. Service was slow and disinterested. The interior is also extremely bog standard and lacking any originality or care. Overall, I would not come back.

What a disappointment Friends stopped at the Wheatsheath in their camper van. No issue there other than my wife and I met them, both coming from work in our cars. My wife was not drinking, I was. We spent some time after last orders with them in their van only to find the car park exit blocked by a car. Clearly placed on an angle to prevent access / egress… We’d spent rather a lot in the bar and had a 30 min walk home. My wife understandably disgruntled as being sober. I’m not sure, tomorrow, when I have to walk back whether the car will be gone, or not… and whether I’ll get to work on time! It is massively inconsiderate and I have to say, does not incline me to visit this establishment again. Is it legal to block the entrance with a vehicle ?

This spot is excellent for food whatever time of day. We went at 3.00 p.m. and were made very welcome. We took the opportunity to eat outside and both ordered scampi and chips. The helping when it came was substantial with lovely homemade tartare sauce. Elly, our serving staff, was very friendly and came to check that all was OK. It certainly was and I struggled to finish the meal which for just under £12 was very reasonable. The menu is comprehensive with some innovative and unexpected food (chilli with nachos which I've had before and is excellent).

When we arrived there were no pies left that we wanted so opted for fish & chips. When it arrived the batter Wes so hard and thick you could hardly cut it with a knife. In fact I took a bite ant it cut the roof of my mouth. I have suffered since with a sore mouth.

This pub has great potential but unfortunately needs new management. They see reviews as an opportunity to argue or disagree rather than learn and improve, it takes just scrolling through these to see how the owner speaks to people. For anyone thinking of going to wheatsheaf in Garstang We’ve just had a really nice weekend ruined by the most disgusting behaviour from the Owner of the Wheatsheaf in Garstang who effectively held us ransom whilst he called the police. I went in with my husband, mother and my 2 year old daughter for a Sunday roast. The food arrived and the three roasts were so overcooked they were inedible. I politely spoke to the waitress quietly around the corner to not make a scene, the waitress kindly took our plates away. A short while later she reappear and said, im really sorry (presumably because of what was about to happen) before the owner appeared behind her and began being abusive demanding we paid for the entire uneaten meal or he would call the police. I refused and he got even more irate, shouting at my family infront of all his customers. He stormed off to ring the police who he told that we were abusive. His pub quickly emptied after this, leaving us sat upset, worried and unable to make payment for our drinks and the childrens meal, despite making several offers to pay. His entire team of staff were equally disgusted by his behaviour and were incredibly apologetic. A lady from the table next to us, actually came back into the pub and offered to be a witness to the situation saying his behaviour was inappropriate. Eventually he came back in, told us to pay for the children’s meal, drinks and leave. I will never step foot in there again, and i wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Especially if you have a young family. Appauling service. What type of person shouts at a family infront of a child and other customers then calls the police? Disgusting! In case you are wondering, that was a chicken breast at some point 😳

After witnessing the most unprofessional and uncalled for behaviour from the owner, I would never want to spend my money here. He shouted at someone in front of their family, and other customers because they couldn't eat their chicken so they sent it back (It was burnt to a crisp, and there's photos to prove. I wouldn't of fed it to my dog), he even called the police!! These poor people didn't do anything wrong. They should of cooked their food again or gave them their money back. If you can't handle food being sent back because it's too burnt to eat, you shouldn't be managing a restaurant. But to yell at your customers for it! And call the police!! Even the staff were apologising for his behaviour. I hope they find somewhere else to work. This isn't my photo but they want it to be shared.

Absolutely shocking behaviour from the owner of the pub. Food came overcooked. When we sent it back the owner came out screaming at us. In front of the children. Demanding we pay for the meals otherwise he will call the police. All the staff working were so apologetic. The pub emptied quickly and even the customers were appalled. One customer came back to be a witness for us. The owner threatened to call the police stating we were the abusive ones. Finally he came back and demanded we paid for now only the children's meals. We paid and left and will never come back. WARNING FOR ANYONE WANTING TO DINE HERE. Don't bother, unless you want to be served trash that you have to pay for.

What is wrong with pubs these days, they should be doing everything in their power to attract and retain customers. I visited the Wheatsheaf tonight which used to be a clean and thriving pub. They have invested in door security and live music, which was great tonight. There is a good choice of beer, but why can’t they invest a little amount of money on the cleanliness of the gents toilets. One cubicle was out of action, the floor in the only other one was awash, the drainage was awful ( ie- blocked with paper). Everywhere was covered in cobwebs, pipes and radiators were very rusted, and the overall impression was awful. I always value pubs/restaurants on the cleanliness of the toilets, if they have no regard for these areas, what does it say about the kitchens etc.

When to fuel up as normal but it was a busy time. I had to use a pay at the pump and it had a notice to inform you it was card only no call into pay station option. My loyalty card would not scan and it didn't give a receipt. I called in to the pay store and asked for the recieipt and to put points on my loyalty card. The cashier told me I should have scaned my card at pump which I informed her I had but it wouldn't scan and didn't give a receipt and needed looking at, she was not helpful and didn't speak clear enough English fir me to understand. There were two other people struggling at the pay pumps also and she spoke instructions over the speaker but they also waved there hands in the air couldn't understand her. She needs customer training and I want my points that she wasn't willing to help with.

Such a shame to find this iconic traditional hostelry is still closed. Fantastic interior, great beer and great food. Sam Smiths pubs are always very well kept and this was always a destination pub whenever we visited the Fylde. We've now moved into the area so we're really hoping it will reopen soon.
