Very poor service, i had to get up from my table 3 times for cutlery and to ask for the mint gravy which was missing from my meal. The ladies toilets were disgusting and the baby changing was out of order wont be coming back.

We go to Guys often and highly rate it but decided to try the tavern for a change as there was a fair outside. Granted it was very busy but we won’t return. Food was quick arriving and was ok for pub food. However, it was the service that was a real let down. We found a table and asked for a menu and we were given a very stained paper menu. We asked at the bar for some crayons as there was a card for kids to colour and told they had none. The food arrived but we had no cutlery. We asked a passing waitress who looked put out we spoke to her. Not sure what was worse the fact she handled the fork end with her hands or that she practically threw them on the table while giggling and chatting with another waitress. I think people will forget an ok meal and return but they won’t forget poor service. It’s fantastic you hire very young people but please train them.

Lovely old buildings and great outside space in the summer, however inside the place looks very tired with old dirty carpets, paint coming off the wall etc. The past couple of times I have visited, the bar has been covered in used glasses- even at less busy times. Food menu is average and could also do with some work, the pizzas can be good, however I have also tried the Sunday roast there which I felt was extremely poor. Has potential to be a fantastic destination after a bit of a revamp and more care taken but as things stand, not worth the visit.

Used to be a regular here when I lived nearby. Was passing by today and thought I'd stop for lunch. A slightly surreal experience - I haven't been there for, it must be 35 years, and it doesn't seem to have changed a bit! Seriously.......not a bit, I swear even the menu was the same, albeit at increased prices. Had a roast beef sandwich.....which was just like it was 30 or so years ago, too. Had a slightly dingy feel back in the day, but there was a good atmosphere. Can't really judge what it's like these days but seemed a bit lacking today. It was busy so I guess it can't be all bad.

An excellent, if a little odd, place for a meal, especially if you have to eat gluten- free. The food is recommended. On the outside it looks like one of those creepy, slightly run- down theme parks you get in horror films. On the inside, it is a rustic- themed and quite dark restaurant and bar.

This is a beautiful thatched roofed pub with accommodation. There is a canal at the side of the pub where you can sit and watch the ducks and boats chugging past. There are plenty of tables outside around the building. Some are undercover. I was a bit hesitant to try the food here after reading some comments. The food was excellent. I had the cheese and onion pie, chips, and vegetables. My friend had the steak pudding with chips, vegetables, and gravy. And a side order of fried mushrooms. There was loads of steak in the pudding. There is ample parking and is fairly flat for wheelchair users. There is a brilliant car boot in the summer about 5 minutes up the road. We will definitely be eating here again.

Visited with my parents, the burgers were good but the chips were terrible - only just cooked and not very warm. The ducks enjoyed them though! We sat outside which would have been lovely if dreadful music hadn’t been blaring out everywhere. Completely unnecessary. Service was good, the tittle in the bar were very friendly and efficient.

This place has gone downhill. Is there new management? Visited last night around 7pm expecting a nice relaxed canal side tea. Music blaring inside and out, way too loud. Ordered vegetarian pizza, pepperoni pizza and salmon sandwich. Vegetables on pizza, looked like they had been thrown on top of a margherita pizza, cold and raw. Pizza base not cooked through either, very soggy doughy base. Salmon sandwich (salmon surprise, as very little salmon) served on what looked like Aldi bloomer bread (not granary as it once was) fries, and shop bought coleslaw (No side salad) Pepperoni pizza was greasy. Staff attempting to tidy tables and chairs around us, throwing chairs under tables, making more noise. Place looked unkept, tables could do with a revamp…just tired looking and short of a deep clean. It’s a shame because Owd Nell’s was once a lovely place, sadly that’s not the case anymore.

I visited with my daughter for a catch up lunch. Service at the till to order was very slow with the staff making coffees and talking. I ordered the cheese and onion pie for my daughter and I asked if I could have the prawn sandwich but have the sauce on the side. The girl said yes. When it came the sauce was already on. I asked the waitress who was not interested. Poor as she just didn't care. Poor training. I wouldn't go again as it is very expensive and has a very busy, not remotely relaxing feel. Such a shame.

Prosciutto E Fungi pizza at £13.95 appeared like a Birds Eye frozen pizza. Not prosciutto at all, more like thin sandwich game cut into 1cm squares, few little mushrooms. Stopped here to cool down during the hot weather. Had a nice refreshing drink and a snack. Food ok. What I really saw, shocked me. There were 4 bar staff, 3 lads and 1 girl and a lady cleaning tables. There must have been over 50 dirty glasses strewn along the bar. A few were moved, a lot remained. Nobody seemed to care. The place looked untidy, unloved and uncared for. 30 minutes later, they were still there. See photo. Unprofessional, to allow that to happen.

We came into the pub as a large booking of 20, pre-booked over 4 weeks before. When booking, we advised them that we would be bringing a dog with us. When we arrived at the pub, we were shown through to the table in a carpeted area and offered drinks. A few minutes later, a very abrupt and rude manager came over to the table. We believe she was the manager, however she never introduced herself. She told us that the dog would have to leave the pub as they don't accept dogs in carpeted areas. She did this with a raised voice in a busy area of the pub, with other tables looking at us. We told the "manager" that the booking was made with the dog included and it was not explained to us at the time of booking that dogs would not be allowed in that area. Her manner around the whole situation was terrible and she made us feel very uncomfortable. We were celebrating an 80th birthday at the time, and felt this put a dampener on the evening. Maybe this individual needs some lessons in customer service and the booking team needs to inform customers of the policies around dogs when booking tables.

Wow what has happened to this came here for food sunday and the whole experience was terrible this used to be the best place to come for food, service young lad on the bar serving good was rude and more interested in flirting with his barmaid sidekick who could only muster enough energy to ask about drinks orders with food and not actually take a food order which caused a tailback at the till that was out the door!! The food came I had pate which used to come with a lovely big piece of crusty bread this occasion it was 2 thin pieces of stale brown toast which was terrible to say the least pate was still good but couldn't enjoy it then the "famous steak and kidney pudding" texture and everything was lovely apart from the fact there was only kidney Inside it, I would of mentioned it to the waitress when the check back was done but it wasn't have to say I was very very disappointed I'm not going to be stupid and say I'm never going to go there again because that would just be daft but i really do hope these negative reviews are picked up on and the quality that was so good before manages to return.

Wasn't given a receipt when I paid and couldn't be bothered arguing as it was busy and I just wanted to eat. Beef was tender but really dry and cut so thick that it was difficult to eat a sandwich so dry. Fed most of it to my dog who enjoyed it. Prawn sandwich apparently was okay. Haven't eaten there for a long time as quality had gone down and won't be eating there again..... unless of course I get a receipt to prove what I ordered!

Poor service on arrival, no welcome greeting or anything. Could cut the tension between the staff in the OPEN kitchen with a spoon. No staff wearing gloves whilst handling meat and vegetarian options or anything in the kitchen for that matter. Share one fryer for meat and hash browns which are supposed to be vegetarian. Lady who handled food at the end just winged it into the hot hold as if it was rubbish. No wonder the hygiene rating isn’t on display.
