From walking into the pub it fealt like a very hostile environment, we ordered our drinks and sat down where we were then greeted by a big stinking hound that proceeded for the next 30 minutes to rub its lipstick up and down our group which put me off my pint that I'd paid good money for. The icing on the cake was when I went to the toilet and was approached my a middle aged man who proceded to tell me about the "strange things thay happen in the men's toilet" and " you smell nice" whilst staring at my penis. Totally inappropriate and quite frankly i felt violated ,I swiftly left. I Will definitely not return to this dump

My wife and I and our Labrador went to The Wheatsheaf for dinner and had a lovely evening. The staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble for them and despite the fact that they were busy they took the time to provide great service. The pub is unpretentious and very traditional feeling. The food was excellent. Portions were generous and the food tasted great. I would recommend a visit here for food or just for a drink without reservation.

We have now visited this inn twice. On our first visit we had the roast dinner/ I had the beef which was exceptionally tender. My wife had the chicken which she enjoyed. My only comment is that the yorkshire puddings appear to be the frozen type.On our second visit we both had the steak and ale pie which was superb. For the price you cannot beat this.

We had booked a table and got there in plenty of time. Waited 20 minutes for somebody to take our food order normally come to your table. So went to the bar to order.Steak and ale pie was cold so told them and it was taken away and warmed up not a fresh bit of pie because I had put a hole in the middle to test it. Obviously bunged in the microwave. My wife fish cakes were dry obviously not fried.Staff apart from the young waitress and the lady who got our initial drinks all looked like thunder. We have been here quite a few times before so not just a fleeting visitWe did not feel welcome at all.

This establishment serves well prepared typical pub grub as good as you will get any where and better than most at a reasonable price. The beer is another of their strong points. As well as the usual beers and larger they have a changing selections of hand pulled, mostly local, Real Ales for the more decreeing pallet.

We arranged a long over due lunch with our young niece and nephew (slightly removed!) and had a thougherly pleasent reunion. Being half way for each of us to travel and they having lunched there before none of us have the slightest hesitation in recommending others to eat there. Good standard well cooked food produced no disappointments whatsoever! Lovely friendly atmosphere clearly worth booking in advance as most tables were fully occupied. Staff friendly and helpful much appreciated. Best to order at the bar.

We were staying in the area on holiday and chose to eat here as it was dog friendly. We sat in the garden and had the haddock and chips and a burger. All the food was lovely , hot and fresh. The meat is all locally sourced. We enjoyed it so much we returned to eat again and had another burger , the steak and a steak and ale pie. Again the food was hot , fresh and tasty. The coffees were good too. We found it to be reasonably priced for large portions. The staff were friendly and lovely with our dog. And they have a resident dog too.

Right on the main road through Burn this is a traditional pub with a great selection of drinks and a superb extensive menu. Very trad inside with friendly owners and staff. Gets really busy with diners Fridays-Sundays so booking is needed during this time for meals. Ate here for the first time and all 4 meals were generous in portion, well cooked, nicely presented and very hot. Prices are good compared with some considering the large portions. Small beer garden and car park. Well worth a visit.

I visited this pub with two friends for a Sunday lunch. There was a brilliant atmosphere and the food and service was excellent. BUT, the downside was that a dog was allowed to wander around the food area without anyone taking responsibility for it. I knew, prior to my visit, that dogs were welcome, but I did not expect to find any without a lead and just free to roam - that is not hygenic and should be stopped - hence my marking down the stars allotted - what a shame.

About 10 of us celebrate each others birthdays and as one of our group is a fussy eater, we are limited to pubs selling food. As we all like the Wheatsheaf we normally eat there. This time I had steak and ale pie and was really nice and tasty and would definitely have it again. Everyone enjoyed there own meals. The service was above expectations, the prices are compatible with local pubs and they have a lovely outside area as well. Would definitely recommend a visit if you are in the area.

We are not local to the area but 6 months ago were looking after an elderly relative in the locality so came here fairly often. It's an old-fashioned country pub, food was always good, as were the beers. But we had had a couple of issues with extra drinks on our bill which was always rectified. We called again last Sunday and treated some friends. I had booked for six of us for 1.45pm on Sunday, arrived and were offered two adjacent tables for four and two, not what I was expecting. As we were all wanting to talk together, I asked to swap to a table for 6, not unrealistic when that is what I booked. There were other tables reserved and they were initially reluctant to give us anything else but eventually we got a suitable table. Just a point now that no-one else came to use the tables we had vacated so why not put us on the table for six in the first place if they weren't fully booked?

Our friends booked up an evening meal at the Wheatsheaf for our friend's birthday. I decided to have Barnsley chop, which I haven't had for quite a long time. Firstly it was quite small and really tough with some really hard to cut sinews through it, if I had false teeth I couldn't had eat it, eventually I did, leaving quite a bit inedible peices. The chips were strange, fluffy but not very tasty. My wife has fish and chips as did 4 others and they all enjoyed theirs. The décor and service were on par with current pubs in the area. Car park is small and you will have to park around the back on the street. Not sure I will return but if I do then I will not order the Barnsley Chop.

Decent pub food with the usual pretty huge portions. The steak and ale pie is as good as any pub although you might like to try the smaller portion. Good selection on specials board too. Service wasn’t bad and the locals were very friendly and happy to chat. Two meals, two pints and two glasses of wine for £25 so competitive locally. Big old open wood fire adds to the atmosphere. I have had food at this pub several time in the past and was always great food. On the last two occasions, however, the food was terrible. I went a couple of months ago and my wife had lasagne or what was supposed to be lasagne. It was in fact unseasoned mince meat with pasta sheets, no sauce, cheese or anything. I had gammon which was tough and cold. We thought this may be a one off so went again on a Friday afternoon for fish and chips and mushy peas. The fish turned out to be a tiny piece and the mushy peas where stone cold. I told one of the staff and they apologised and went to warm them up. When she returned the peas were not much better and the fish was cold, We won't be going again which is a real shame as it used to be great food.

We have recently moved home and on a trip out to see what the local pub scene was like came upon this attractively lite pub standing on the busy A19 at the small village of Burn. It was a cold evening and it looked very inviting. we were not disappointed. The pub has loads of private and on street parking so no worry there. a great selection of real ales greats you at the bar. no less than 6 hand pulled beers which are regularly changed together with ciders. its an old fashioned pub with Toby jugs and war time memorabilia lining the walls as at the rear of the pub stands a wartime airfield.food is served Wednesday through till Sunday with a fixed menu and specials board. the portions are large and excellent value. most main courses are in the £8 range and puddings fixed at £3.95 so its not going to break the bank.booking is advisable if you want to guarantee a table. we visited on a Wednesday evening and the car park was full at 7.30pm the pub was doing a roaring trade. we found a table and were quickly asked if we would be eating. the menu has perhaps 15 main courses on and caters to everyone there is also a specials board with perhaps another 6 dishes.service is both speedy and friendly. food quality excellent and as i said value brilliant. can't recommend this place enough just wish it was within walking distance of my house!!

Arrived Friday lunch - pleasant atmosphere and good choice on menu. Ordered the Friday lunchtime special of Haddock, chips & peas. The batter on the haddock was soft and soggy, the chips were NOT homemade, bland and tasteless and the peas had been sitting in luke warm water for far too long. I ate about half the meal but even hunger could not entice me to eat any more. The lady who had taken the order (don't know if she was the landlady) came to collect the plates and asked - seeing the plate still half full - if everything was OK. I replied as detailed above to which she replied 'I'll tell her' presumably meaning the person cooking and serving from the kitchen. No apology, no offer of reduction, free drink - nothing. We were then totally ignored. Other diners were asked if they wanted desserts/teas/coffees. We had become invisible. So we paid the bill, another opportunity to put the matter right was missed, and we left.We will not be rushing back again. A simple apology could have changed this situation.

Having driven past this pub on many occasions in the last couple of years I called in on spec. with a colleague for lunch. Nothing ostentatious from the outside being a brick built road side establishment and the interior is similarly down to earth but with a very friendly atmosphere and busy for mid-week.Getting a table was easy enough though a little shoulder to shoulder as the place was busy. Getting served at the bar also easy and with a good choice of beers. Food menu? Typical pub grub but with some decent specials on the board including Barnsley chop. Can't grumble at the service either as we had the food delivered in good time.Impressions? Big portions, hot plates, chips weren't out of the freezer, all looked fresh and tasted excellent. The Wheatsheaf is not exactly on the Yorkshire tourist trail nor in one of the more spectacular corners of God's county but if you happen to be in the vicinity and passing along the A19 then I would recommend a look-see because the staff are friendly and the food is more than acceptable.

The meals served at the Wheatsheaf can only be enhanced by a decision to change from the frozen mulch chips, fried to order and currently being offered, in favor of the now regularly accepted 'proper' thrice cooked potatoes chips now the accepted standard in modern restaurants. I feel sure that with this minor adjustment this pub/restaurant would move into the leading category of restaurants in the area and benefit from the reputation such premises attract. Will the management listen and react? - one can only hope!

Following lots of good reports at our holiday accommodation, we booked for a Thurs evening. Upon arrival it was full so I knew it was going to be good. Friendly welcome, good selection of bar meals, approx £7.95. Huge portions, piping hot and all very fresh. The meat pie was heavenly and all homemade. Desserts at £3.45, perfect price. Will definitely be back !

Friendly pub in Burn, near Selby. We visited for a drink one day and decided to come back the next day for dinner. Nice pub with character and friendly locals. Food is very good value and generous portions. Waitress was excellent and friendly with good service. Seems a busy pub which is good and glad we booked a table for Saturday night for the 6 of us. Lots of nik naks in pub including lots of different old beer bottles on the shelves and quite a bit of history about the pub.

Just come back from Sunday lunch. The entry to the pub is not inspiring but once inside this is a traditional country pub serving the local community with a nice ambience. I was concerned that the Sunday lunch was going to be a case of quantity over quality but this was not the case. Whilst the presentation could be improved, there plenty of flavour on the plate with lots of meat. Good range of beer available. The price of the main course was between £5.95 &£6.95 - excellent value. We couldn't face a dessert as we were too full.

My wife and myself decided to drop in at the Wheatsheaf in Burn near Selby. On entering we were welcomed by a lovely warm open fire. After ordering our drinks at the bar we picked a table near the fire.My wife decided to have the home made steak pie from the menu and i decided to order the seafood platter.the waitress who was very pleasant and helpfull brought us our cuttlery and any sauces that we wanted. After a short wait our meals arrived. My wifes steak pie looked beutifull and i tod her that she wouldnt eat it all as there was so much on the plate(hopefully). My seafood platter also looked very appatisng, again a propper plate of food,It was beutifull from start to finish. And luckyly i did get to try the steak pie and it was top quality.Overall a very nice meal, great value for money. We will definatly be going back.Sooner rather than later .

This is my favourite place to eat and drink in the area. This is one of those gems that is becoming ever harder to find as the decline of the great traditional pub is upon us. I have been visiting the Wheatsheaf for the last 2 years whilst I have lived in the area and I have never been disappointed. With a glowing fire in the winter months it is a real home from home, even for my Collie Misty, as she and any other well behaved hound are welcomed into the pub. So much so that she is usually greeted by a bowl of water and a couple of biscuits on arrival. As a traditional real ale pub it is expected to keep the beer in great drinking condition, again the Wheatsheaf does not disappoint, with House and guest beers always on tap, even the most seasoned ale drinker will be satisfied. The food follows this theme, being top quality and amazingly low prices. It is nice to see that a pub has kept to its roots and not tried to venture into pastures unknown with fancy continental dishes that are not required.Overall, a great pub that should not be missed out on.

I have been eating (and more than occasionally drinking) in the Wheatsheaf at Burn for many years and have never had occasion to complain about anything - except that the portions can be too big!It is a real ale pub second to none with regular (if not daily) rotation of beers. There is a great big fire in winter and an outside area in the summer. The locals are incredibly friendly and you will not be a stranger here for long. The food is excellent and the service brilliant. Lunch is served every day and evening meals from Wednesday to Saturday. The pub is full of interesting bric-a-brac and air force wartime memorabilia relating to Burn Airfield nearby.Mine hosts Andy and Jo have been here a long time and work very hard to maintain a timeless standard making each visit a treat.

Popped in twice whilst staying nearby, first for a breakfast much cheaper than the supermarket across the road. Then later on the next day for a cheese and onion pasty - very flaky pastry. Also treat

Staff are always lovely and the coffee is of a consistent standard whenever I go. This is my local coffee shop so I go regularly and have never had anything but good service
