One of the worst sunday lunches ever cold meat and veg burnt Yorkshire pudding sent it back to get warmed up came back couple minutes later still with the burnt Yorkshire pudding which was now like a rock not big or even medium portions found it expensive as were the drinks staff need to be trained in hygiene as every waiter and waitress were stroking customers dogs no apologies from waiting staff or management

First visit after spotting the pub while out on the bike. We popped in for some food and we were served with tasty, generous portions. Can’t complain about anything.

An amazing Great British pub! Great food, atmosphere and absolutely well managed by a brilliant couple. Heart and soul of a tranquil, quintessential yorkshire village. A must visit if you are in the area.

Under new management, we have found the place lovely, the food (Sunday Roasts) absolutely first rate and the service and friendliness spot on! Family of 2 adults and 2 children, we have found everything to our satisfaction, including the entertaining quirky train-like bell sound from the kitchen for the staff to know when meals are ready for service! 😊

Expensive food, took ages to serve our food but on the plus side friendly helpful staff a nice country pub nice for a drink.

Nice pint of blue moon sat outside on a sunny day, looking forward to eating there. Landlady lovely and friendly. Update on 3rd April Ate here yesterday, great food, good menu. Would recommend.

Went today after our booking elsewhere let us down, managed to squeeze us in. Wonderful staff and food in a gorgeous location!

Went for opening weekend and had an incredibly delicious Sunday roast with friends. The waiting staff were very attentive and friendly. There was a good selection of alcohol free drinks for myself (the designated driver) and the food was the star of the show with an absolutely delicious full roast followed by a sticky toffee pudding and an Eton mess which myself and the friends shared. Great price and we are super excited to come back soon!

We loved this place. Stayed over night in our camper after an awesome night with the locals and the lovely bartender. Got great recommendations for our trip to York.Planned to have one beer, stayed until 1 o‘clock Thanks for on of our best nights on our trip around the Island. Greetings from the two german doctors.

Lovely carvery and friendly staff

Probably the best carvery I've ever had. Brilliant service and excellent value for money will definitely be back for more.

Absolutely fantastic carvery. I had the prawn cocktail to start followed by roast beef served with all the trimmings. Very reasonably priced and good quality food. The staff were all friendly and there was a decent selection of drinks. I will definitely visit again! I live so near yet so far! East Cottingwith to Thorganby in 25 minutes via car. I could probably smell them cooking dinner from the other side of the river!

We had some lovely fish and chips and the service was good ☺️.

This pub is worth visiting for the fantastic food alone. In a lovely friendly village this laid back ambient place is spot on.Great to sit inside or out. Separate room for dining if required away from the bar.Dog and family friendly.Would revisit if in the area again.

This is a hidden gem in a small North Yorkshire village. Stayed at a local campsite with friends and spent two fabulous evenings here. The food is absolutely lush. The chef even made us a late evening sandwich after a hectic and stressful day Staff and locals are friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend and will definitely be frequenting again soon.

Exceptional ales with a great choice of them too. Best pub for miles around and a great landlord to go with it too. Highly recommended.

Quiet country pub with great beer

Hopeless service and management please dont play the covid staff shortage card it wont wash. 3 waitresses on duty and they couldnt cope with three tables. Avoid.

A Midweek booking and arrived in good time so we could have a drink before the meal. The service was terrible, took 1..5 hours from order to arrival of the food. Service dismissive and dour through out, not even a goodbye when we left. We are locals taking a visiting friend out for a meal, others were visitors to the area and all had the same dire service. One couple were asked if they wanted the bill when they had finished their first course, another couple had waited longer than us, and one lady an hour after she ordered was told they had run out of her choice, she left in disgust and 10 minutes later it was brought in. It was a farce from start to finish. We were really looking forward to re visiting an old favourite ...... no more. Food ok but to be honest we were past caring.

Good old fashioned country pub. Attentive staff. Had a lovely meal and a pint in wonderful surroundings.

Absolutely Fantastic. We showed up to do an overnighter on our way to Scarborough, they allow this if you use the bar for food/drinks, but they had stopped serving food at 5, this wasn't an issue with the landlord which was fab. A fantastic sleepover with great drinks and amazing friendly service, not much else you could wish for. Thanks guys, will see you again soon!

Love this pub I felt so relaxed and it is such a friendly atmosphere

We caravan at oakmere and prefer to drive here than walk to a pub that is closer not just because - its has sky sports, it allows dogs and kids, I'm part of the pubs fantasy football league, it has excellent food and drink, it's in a beautiful setting, it's cheaper than other local pubs but mainly because the staff and locals are so friendly and welcoming. Sean and daz (I think was the barmans name sorry if not) are just so pleasant, make you feel like a local straight away. Sean's Sunday carvery was top notch, 3 meats all cooked beautifully with all the trimmings washed down with some moretti all priced very very well in comparisons. We will always call in when at the caravan it's our fave pub out here by a country mile.Cheers once again and see you next time Liam, natalie and family

Staff very friendly , loads of sanitizer and space between tables (social distancing) fish and chips were gorgeous and stayed overnight in motorhome on car park 🙂

We called ahead, not a problem to stay overnight in the car park. Arrived too late for food (9:30pm), but bar was great, allowed dogs, very friendly locals. Good choice of beers and spirits.

Nice local pub, beautiful location, stayed over in campervan. Rang ahead to check serving food, which was great served until 8:30pm. Weren’t told it was steak night 🥩 / didn’t ask to be fair. I’m a BIG fan of fillet. Unfortunately Rump was the only option. (2 for £25 inc bottle wine) One of our party doesn’t meat, a shame no other options were available, rump steak or rump steak. (did offer to make a portion of chips) Unfortunately no starters or sides were available. Nothing for the minor who was visiting with us either. Locals were nice and friendly and the steak accompaniments were really nice. First and last time I’ve ordered rump! Rump and bottle wine 🍷 for 1 reduced to £20 🤷🏽‍♂️

I've eaten here before and had a good experience of the steak night, but the carvery was very disappointing. The potatoes weren't properly cooked in the middle, the vegetables were overdone and the Yorkshire pudding was so crisp it shattered when I bit it. Worst of all though was only being allowed two (not particularly large/thick) slices of meat each. We were hungry and had come towards the end of the evening (from what I could see we were the last food customers), so there was no issue of there not being enough for later diners.That said, this is a decent pub - just avoid the carvery nights.

Set within a stunning village this picturesque pub is everything you could ask for and more. Holidaying at the nearby oakmere campsite this was quite the find.Inside elegant decor is matched with friendly hospitality, from staff and locals alike, that made our afternoon very enjoyable.We had several birra moretti whilst watching the football on sky sports and finished with an excellent pizza.Wendy is such a lovely host we will definitely be back and thoroughly recommend to all, locals and tourists alike. We went to our local for a drink on a Friday night not planning to eat. Having looked at their new tapas menu with 3 dishes for £10.99 we were tempted so decided to order. It was really great - dishes like chorizo and prawns, calamari and shrimp balls, pork belly, rump steak and chorizo - etc etc - to mention a few. Brilliant and innovative for a county pub - not to mention their fabulous value for money Sunday carvery. This couple - Wendy and Shaun are working really hard to provide local people with a fabulous place on their doorstep and keep introducing new things keeping it consistently different.

We were staying at the campsite down the road. Who advised us to eat here. A warm and friendly welcome, from staff and locals. We were offered a wide range of beers and ciders. They had had a beer festival the weekend before. I chose a cider called the orchard thieves. Very nice.As it was Wednesday it was carvery night. A choice between beef and turkey. As a rule I don't go for a carvery but decided to have the beef, which was cooked to perfection, the vegetables not over cooked and soggy ( which is the reason I normally avoid carverys)Thursday was steak night, again my steak medium rare was cooked beautiful, home made chips and onion rings complemented it perfectly. Thank you Sean. We will be coming back. The campsite is a perfect spot, and the Jefferson Arms is the perfect place after a long day touring round.

Delicious food and nice atmosphere

This is a country pub and restaurant set in the heart of the village of Thorganby near York. Tidy property outside with large car park. This is advertised as open at 4pm but did not open until 5pm. This was a Monday so the restaurant was closed. The two chaps behind the bar didn't have much to do as it was quiet but were OK. The drinks are on the expensive side, so I imagine the food is as well. But generally an OK visit.

Turned up on speck pub very quiet car park even emptier asked for a table for 2 they replied sorry we are full. Very disappointed.

Very impressed with this quaint little local, the carvery is superb! The price represents excellent value for money. I feel as if I’ve robbed the proprietors Quality ingredients cooked to a very high standard and plenty to choose from. The beef in particular, medium rare, melts in your mouth.The staff are friendly and the service excellent. Well done guys!

My three friends and I ate at The Jefferson today lunch time, the carvery was "so" good, nice atmosphere, try it everybody, we will be back.

Sean and Wendy allowed us to host our daughters christening at the pub and I cannot fault it! The food was delicious and they prepared exactly what was requested to an amazing standard. They carried out all of the decor on our behalf and nothing we asked was too much trouble. They were so polite and professional and we would not hesitate to use them again. They’re thorough with detail and nothing was overlooked. The service they provided was faultless and they even allowed us to take over the beer garden with a bouncy castle. They went above and beyond to make our daughters day so special and we are so grateful to them. The carvery on a Sunday is fabulous too, so much so that we have booked in with them for Christmas Day! I’m sure they will go to massive efforts to make that occasion special and memorable for us and our daughters. Thank you guys!

A new feature in recent weeks is the addition of a Midday Carvery - in our experience either Beef or Turkey - or both!! The Beef was pink and the Turkey full flavoured and moist. Yorkshire Pud with both plus a nice range of vegetables. Comfortable seating in a pleasant atmosphere. Generous off-road parking.

I just can’t understand why I have seen a bad review about this pub on Tripadvisor , I do believe some people exaggerate and are v unfair to hardworking people’s livelihoods.

We had fairly night hopes for this meal after reading the fairly highly rated reviews but we were left quite disappointed.

Visited for Sunday Lunch, food was fantastic. Beef was cooked perfection, my daughter had the Gammon which she said was very very good. Vegetables all hot and tasty, and the cost for 4 of us with some drinks was £64.00 !! 2 had 2 courses and 2 of us had 3 courses. Would highly recommend for Sunday Lunch. Now to try on a week day evening.

Lovely welcoming pub in a great village location.

We needed a venue for a wake. We tried some local hotels and were left saddened by the cold approach. We spoke to Sean and Wendy at the Jefferson who were sympathetic and kind in their dealing with such a sad and difficult occasion. They listened to what we wanted. The food (buffet) was fantastic as were the staff.

Had a lovely Sunday carvery today with family staff was brilliant and very helpful my dad has celiac but the chef was very accommodating for my dad he even made separate yorkshire puddings for him the food is all home cooked and you could tell. Would highly recommend Jefferson arms for food xx

We were there for a midweek birthday celebration. The dining room area was well-presented but rather chilly and the illumination at our end of the room was poor.

Steaks melted in your mouth and cooked to perfection. All freshly cooked food. Everyone made us feel very welcome including the locals who we sat with at the bar after our meal. We haven't enjoyed ourself's that much in ages! Owners and waitress lovely people. 100 yards from lovely peaceful caravan park (Country living campsite) Can't wait to return...soon.

Dog friendly pub with decent food. Friendly staff. OH had an enormous piece of well cooked fish with chips, I had a very nice lasagne. Good beer selection also pleased my other half ( a CAMRA member !).

Omdat we in een B&B; in Thorganby zaten, die overigens buitengewoon prettig was, zijn we in dezelfde straat gaan eten bij Jefferson Arms. Het was er alledrie de keren super gezellig. De kinderen konden tafelvoetballen terwijl we op het eten wachtten. De eetruimte was heel verzorgd, net als de toiletten. Ze hebben voor een pub een grote kaart met een goede prijskwaliteitverhouding. Voor 55£ hebben we met 4 personen heerlijk gegeten en allemaal wat gedronken. Op woensdagavond konden we met de wekelijkse quiz meedoen. We werden er heel leuk bij betrokken en hebben ons kapotgelachen met de grappen van de quizmaster en de reacties van de locals. Voor we het wisten gingen we pas om 23.00 naar huis na een geslaagde avond! Jammer dat we weer zo snel moesten vertrekken!

The service was spot on but the food wasn't great. The establishment wasn't busy so that can't be used as an excuse. I ordered the mixed grill and wasn't asked how I wanted my steak cooking.all the meats came out well done.disappointing.

Esta fue nuestra segunda visita a este pub simpático Para su sesión mensual acústicos. Nos recibió el personal, amable y eficiente servicio prestado y pagamos precios muy razonables para las bebidas. Es bastante grande y bien distribuido y para un domingo por la noche estaba bastante completo con diversas actividades. Parece que ha logrado establecer su propia como un centro social de la comunidad. He clasificado los 4 estrellas porque no puedo opinar sobre cualquier otro aspecto del negocio. Nos hicieron sentir muy bienvenidos, y siento este pub se merece es para tener éxito

Hace al menos dos años desde que he estado en los brazos de Jefferson y volver luego de que había sido completamente renovado y tenía una tienda increíble donde entré por primera vez, compré un reloj de pared que aún tengo! Así llegamos esperando cosas increíbles y es una pena ver la tienda ha desaparecido, el jardín está cubierta y el comedor privado es ahora una tienda de habitación! Sin embargo, la comida es igual de increíble, precioso de hecho y el servicio es amable y simpático, no profesionales como una vez fue, pero acogedor. Muy limitado en variedad de cervezas, licores, vinos, etc., no como una vez fue hace dos años. Por desgracia, éramos los únicos clientes toda la tarde, espero que puede ser el pub de antaño, bien merece una visita para la comida
