Only stopped in for a drink to kill some time while waiting to pick my dog up from the groomers. Honestly, it's a lovely little pub with friendly, welcoming staff. Warm atmosphere. Would definitely like to go back

We went here to watch the women’s, football euros final and were welcomed like locals. It was a very friendly atmosphere! Very well decorated with friendly staff! Will have to visit next time we are down in Cornwall

We were struggling to find any restaurants in the area so stopped at the Western Inn for dinner. We had fish and chips which was fairly average but OK. Service was friendly. There is a small car park at the side of the inn.

Well done to the staff. Friendly and welcoming.

This pub is a must for anyone who enjoys a traditional local, quality beers, home cooked food and the friendliest staff you could wish for.

My partner and I were visiting St Austell for the night with another couple. We had been out for some food and decided to go for another drink when we stumbled across The Western Inn. From the minute we walked in to the minute we left we were welcomed with open arms and made to feel like part of the family! It was their first karaoke night and the atmosphere was fab. After a few drinks we all had a go on the karaoke. The four of said that we have never been to such a welcoming and friendly pub. Thank you so much for a wonderful evening, we will be back and we will be recommending the pub to anyone visiting St Austell!

Pub beside old bridge. Took part in the pub quiz and met some lovely locals who had connections to Ireland. Food and drinks were great and served by efficient and friendly staff.

On arrival the staff was very friendly and welcoming, I ordered the burger which came with chips and a side salad, and now the disappointing bit, I had about 10 chips and a very poor quality of burger, surely for the price of meal they could get there burgers from a local butchers, it tasted like a cheap economy supermarket burger.

Landlords were very welcoming and friendly. Our friends got married and the landlady sectioned off part of the pub for the wedding party. Food is very good and generous portions. Well worth a visit and we will definitely go there again

We've travelled down to Cornwall from the East Mids and just wanted a good honest pub meal for dinner. After a bit of searching we came across the The Western Inn and it was right up our street. Phoned to book a table as during holiday season everywhere is busy! When we arrived, staff were friendly and welcoming right from the off. Seated in the snug and we both chose the rump steak. The menu is small but it's not a problem as there is a good selection and it just shows the difference that a huge menu with 40 odd items as the food was beautiful. Everything was piping hot, good portions and as I said cooked beautifully. If you are looking for a wholesome local pub this is where you want to be looking. Locals created a good atmosphere, staff were fab and food was brilliant.

Stumbled across this pub during a 4 night stay in St Austell. Leah and the team were beyond friendly and created a warm and welcoming environment for us. Not to mention the complimentary drink as it was our anniversary and super fun bingo night on Sunday! Will deffo be coming back here in the future!

We’ve eaten at The Western Inn twice in the last week, firstly last Sunday where we had an excellent roast! I had the pork and my wife had the beef, both were great quality, big portions and my 7 YO son said the gravy was the best he’s ever had! Staff couldn’t do enough for us so we came back on Tuesday for a steak & a burger, again fantastic quality meats, the staff mentioned they’re using the best local butcher in town and it showed. We look forward to eating there again soon.

On holiday down in Cornwall, we decided to come to the western on a Thursday for a drink, loved the great service so we booked for Friday evening. So glad we did book was busy but even with them being busy they gave great service well done to you all, food was delicious

Great pub with social distancing to a high quality

We arrived in St Austell from Kent and was recommended The Western as I wanted to watch the footie. Upon arrival we found that we had to book but the manageress suggested we take a seat outside and she would let us know if one became available. One did become available directly in front of a tv and there was food available too = one very happy customer. Staff very friendly, polite and efficient. Food was good. Regulars were friendly. Would highly recommend this family run pub.

I LIKE the Western Inn. It's an old pub, in a very old part of town, by the original bridge over the River Vinnick, aka White River. St Austell brewery - so it's Korev, Tribute, Proper Job .... fine by me. There is a pool table, and it looks like they do music sometimes. Food is basic pub stuff. Real local atmosphere in here. I recommend it if you have had enough of the Fore St pubs. But casual visitors should find it good too.

I recently visited with my family . I was greeted by the friendly landlord and land lady . Great COVID precautions in place to make us feel safe . Service was great and the food was incredible and homemade . Friendly and attentive staff, with a vast choice of drinks . Will definitely be returning . Warm , welcoming and a fantastic evening was had . Thank you The Western inn .

If I hadn’t seen the name and the pictures of the outside, I could believe we went to a different pub when we were on holiday in Cornwall as we didn’t appear to have the experience of the reviewers on here. We were staying in Liskeard and were struggling to find anywhere to eat, so were pleased to find this place and the food reviews, even though it was a way away. However, when we arrived we were very disappointed to find a very limited menu with only a few options - nothing like the food mentioned in the reviews below. Being a veggie I was only able to have the macaroni cheese and my husband had fish and chips. what a disappointment when it arrived. My macaroni had no sauce just a bit of sprinkled cheese on top - totally tasteless and certainly not worth seven pounds and my husband’s fish looked just like one of those frozen ones you get from Birds Eye and was identical to the one we’d bought in a supermarket earlier. No desserts either which was a real disappointment. We didn’t complain as we don’t come from the area but won’t go there when we visit Cornwall again. Only plus point was that the servers were friendly.

It's not often that you can go anywhere as a single person and feel completely at home! The Pub is clean, friendly with fantastic staff and the food ticks all of the boxes. Nothing is too much trouble, I certainly will visit again, highly recommended!

Long awaited booking after great reviews on Trip advisor. This was by far the worst dining experience I have ever experienced in the UK. Advanced booking for 6, took 50 minutes to prepare sub par meals I would have expected from a burger van in 2 minutes. Adults meals that were smaller than the children’s. The service was polite and apologetic. Will never step foot in a St Austels brewery pub for love or money

Visited the Western inn on our last visit to Cornwall, lovely friendly little pub. We ate here to including the special,freshly caught mackerel very tasty. Good choice of drinks and Cornish Ales. Glad we stopped by will be again when next in St Austell. Good Luck to the new management

Booked in for food last minute, and even though they were fully booked, they managed to squeeze me in as I was working away. Friendly owners and very helpful. Would visit again when down here

The pub is lovely and the lady owner is so friendly and welcoming. The menu is a bit sparse even in this climate, more bar snacks. It was a shame that some of the clientele were swearing at the bar.

Visited during the government eat out to help out period. We found this pub based on its old reviews. When we entered, we weren't sure as the menu was small and just printed on a sheet of paper. However, after deciding to stay, we quickly realised the atmosphere and staff were lovely, and that the pub had just come under new management a week earlier. The food arrived and we ( two families of 4 ) were not disappointed. Clean plates all round which is a nice surprise knowing my kids. Homemade Beer Batter onion rings were a lovely surprise too. Great work! I hope it stays like this as I will be returning next time we are in Cornwall.

Very nice pub visited to watch the football made very welcome by the barmaid and guys that seem to be local to the pub. nice clean loos makes a good impression on the pub. Only thing is that wingey winey dog they allow in.

Very sad to hear people complaining and swearing at 6.30pm i shouldnt have my children out in the local pub. No wonder family's don't go out to their local pub no more. The staff didn't say anything. I would have threw him out!! Place was empty and never visited before. Just moved into the area and wanted to check out the pub. Won't be visiting again. No doubt this pub will close at some point in the future just like the rest!! Where's community spirit gone. Let's hope these people have no children or grandchildren of their own wanting to actually have a life!! I'm sad the staff didn't say anything either.

Went for our Christmas meal here this year, the food was absolutely amazing💕 Seating not so comfy but that's to be expected in a pub - lovely atmosphere, and a private smoking area which is always nice! 😏

First night in town after 7 hour drive the pub is clean and tidy and very cheerful staff and friendly locals. Drank a few pints of the local St Austell brewery a nice drop. Menu is not large but enough of a choice for most customers, had the chicken and ham pie which was tasty and a large portion and some of the best chips I have had in a long time. Live football on the big screen and chatted with the locals who made us feel welcome.

My husband & I have eaten here on Wednesdays and Sundays. Great food. Wednesday menus are amazing and the meal deal is a fantastic price. There is a choice of Sunday roast meats and portion sizes so a really great place to have Sunday lunch.This is a really friendly pub so there are a lot of regulars.

Having just moved to the area we were pleased to discover this pub a few minutes away .We went in a Friday night and had fish chips and mushy peas followed by ice cream for less than £7 !!and it was really hot and tasty - the other advantage is that it is dog friendly too.

Had a really great meal here on a Sunday night, it was around 8 o'clock and although the roasts had gone had a really lovely home cooked burger and chips. Following by delicious pud. Warm and welcoming atmosphere, staff helpful and attentive. Cannot fault it. A good mix of visitors and locals made for a nice few hours. Thank you.

Haven't visited the western since it has been taken over but went today for sunday lunch and what can I say it was beautiful.Very generous portions the cauliflower cheese is out of this world and the gravy is to die for well 10000% be back.

Really nice pub with a local feel. Recently done up, but still full of atmosphere. The food was probably the best pub food I’ve had in years.I arrived with 10 people on a Wednesday and we all had great meals including curries, burgers, pies and ham hock.We had a celiac with us and a couple of veggies and they were looked after perfectly.They have a couple of pool tables and a cracking duke box.The best thing of all is the staff and the land lady.Thanks!

Friendly with a good choice of ales. A great elevated pool and darts area and serving food, which we didn't have. Great for taking the kids after a trip to the park opposite.

Went for a Sunday roast at The Western and was welcomed into a warm and friendly atmosphere. They have some great local beers on and the food is simply superb. All at very reasonable prices too. Service was excellent and the pub has a really nice family feeling. We had the Roast Pork which came in very generous portions, served with roasties, Yorkshire pud, plenty of veg too. All was delicious. Deserts were also lovely and extremely good value. I'd recommend this pub to anyone in the area wanting a quick drink in a friendly local and anyone looking for a great place to eat a hearty, tasty meal. Will be returning again very soon!

This place use to have a real friendliness about it, the landlady was so welcoming, but since the pub has changed hands this has all gone, just a bog standard pub. We use to eat there on a regular basis but the food is not of the same standard now. How the brewery let the old landlady go I will never know!

Couldn’t fault the food...excellent value for money and beautifully cooked. My husband had the cheesecake too...wow!! He also commented on what a good pint of tribute it was. We’ll definitely be back and recommending to others. Keep it up, Sue...you’re just what we needed. 😊

Visited for Sunday roast and was very pleased. A good welcome, friendly staff with great, quick service. Meat choices (Lamb, Beef, Pork & Turkey) in small, medium and large. (Very generous portions!) Food was hot, fresh and very tasty, with a great selection of veggies. Roast potatoes done perfectly, and nice thick gravy. Great value too (£6.95, £8.95 and £9.95 s,m & l respectively).

Wednesday over 55s 2 course lunch £6.95 I was a bit sceptical at the price but it was excellent Chicken and Ham pie mash plenty of veg and gravy there was another choice of Chilli and rice then we had the choice of 3 deserts everything was plentiful and great quality

Nice pub with beer garden, Larger & Cider was cheap. Showed sky sports, had two pool tables and a dart board. Nice atmosphere will definitely visit again

Amazing people there the food is good and the beer is excellent

Decided to give this place a try, always a bit wary when new owners take over especially when the last owners did a magnificent job with the food. I went for a medium roast beef and my friend went for a mix of beef and turkey. The food was delicious, the beef was tender, roast potatoes were just how I like them. I even went for a apple pie and custard and my friend went for treacle tart and cream. All was delicious. Well done to Paul the chef. Well worth a visit if you are in the area on a Sunday lunchtime.

New owners who were very welcoming and the beer was in good condition. Some of the seats could do with replacing or re-covering though.
