Disappointing Sunday roast, food bland and flavourless, nor particularly warm either. Nothing to taste and meat was tough

Lovely meal in great surroundings, with friendly staff, especially Cass the young man working for the holidays. My only recommendation would be to reduce the amount of chips with the meals, we had pie of the day (steak & ale) and lasagne. Perhaps reduce the chip portion size but offer a top up bowl if people think they don’t have enough. Just a thought and possibly save on food waste. Looking forward to our next visit

Top food, top service, top ale! Been here a few times recently and always had great food. The young lady looking after our table both times is a credit to the place. Beef and ale pie and the burger are both amazing! Everyone loved it both times. Looking forward to trying out the rest of the menu soon.

Popped in at 2.15 pm on a quiet Friday- asked very unfriendly landlady if we could play darts- she refused saying it is only for darts team to use and that tables were booked. Only table used was no where near the dart board.

This was the worst experience dining out ever the most vile rude landlady with such a poor attitude why she’s in hospitality I’ll never know , the way she was speaking to the young waitress was actually disturbing, ordering her around loud and clear for all to hear left us feeling sorry for the poor young girl , the food was horrendous stone cold hard chips probably left over from lunch time served back up in the evening, and lasagne was inedible how it’s called lasagne when it doesn’t contain pasta in it , just a lump of dry cheap mincemeat with a thick lump of melted cheese on top , I would avoid this place at all costs !!

We dined as a family of five on Saturday evening. We all had different meals and each meal was well presented and tasty. I enjoyed a Steak and Ale pie which had home made pastry all around, rather than just a puff pastry lid served at many places. What made our evening was the friendly and professional service from a young lady called Sophie. Her people skills really stood out, especially going above and beyond with my disabled brother who has learning disabilities and also in a wheelchair. I am sure she will excel in any future profession with such a lovely attitude. It was certainly the best restaurant service we have experienced in a very long time, thank you.

Came here for a quick pint after a visit to Duffryn Gardens. Had to wait for the barrel to be changed (no problem) and as soon as they had swapped the barrel, they immediately pulled up my pint from behind the bar which I didn't see them pour. When I tasted it, it was 100% a shandy. I took the beer back and the lady said "she'd sort it out now" without any form of explanation or apology. She poured a fresh pint in front of me which tasted as expected - genuinely feels they were trying to pull a fast one here.

Why this landlady thinks she is suited to the hospitality sector is beyond me. Rude and officious and acts as if every request is a burden. Staff lovely but I can only imagine what the working environment is like. For goodness sake don't try and tell her that something on the website needs updating, like food being available all week - we turned up and the pub was shut.

I live across the road from the wenvoe arms and I am a regular visitor to this warm, hospitable, friendly pub. I've always found the food to be of an excellent standard. Well done to the chef for defending the harsh, unfounded review made on 01.01.16. We had lunch on Sunday 03.01.16, the food was exceptional, as always. Perhaps madam left her taste buds on holiday? HAVE A HEART! It was New Years Day after all.

I'm the chef from the wenvoe just clarifying the review on 1/1/2016 there is no mention of homemade sausages it states handmade on the menu which is what she received yes there was a couple of shortages on the menu but our menu is all fresh or homemade and due to being a bank holiday there's no deliveries

From walking in til the time i leave its been a pleasure drinking n eating there.. If its just a light lunch, full evening meal, or even a sunday roast, I've never had a bad meal, Everything is home cooked, freshly prepared with the best quality products used... WELL DONE CHEF!!! Each and everyone who works there goes the extra mile to make it an enjoyable time.. This lovely little local deserves the recognition of a traditional village pub.. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!

What a lucky find, this pub is quite traditional with a good selection of beers n ales on draft. We rocked up at short notice on Sunday afternoon looking for a nice Sunday lunch. Having rang ahead to check availability and discovered they could accommodate us, we headed over and found an empty restaurant, which had it not been for the reviews on tripadvisor we may have left after a quick drink. In the end our group decided to stay and that turn out to be a very good decision. The barman was really good fun, he had us all laughing away while we ordered, he continue to entertain us while serving drinks and eventually our lunches. The portions where large and the food was tasty and made more expectable by the very reasonable prices. Only bad point, they served peas instead of salad on one of the dishes, but to there credit, this was rectified super quickly with a smile and apology. We had a very enjoyable time with a delicious lunch all washed down with some fine ale. We all would seriously recommend this place to all, enjoy!

I cannot believe the negative reviews for the Sunday Lunch. The veg / roasties / meat / Yorkshires and especially the gravy are all superb. I am fortunate to have been married to a wonderful cook for over 50 years, and the Boverton Castle compares very, very favourably for a Sunday Lunch. And I don't have to wash up. Bonus. We tend to have the smaller portion size dinner as the normal one is too much as we've got older.

Booked Sunday lunch carvery several weeks in advance for an office get together. Was called a couple weeks before and told carvery no longer available and we must pre-order from festive menu. Not happy but too late to start looking for something else. All the girls were smiley and friendly but the service was appallingly slow- had to ask multiple times for each course- not that busy so can’t understand why kitchen was so slow. Starter was fine. While waiting for mains, we popped outside and when we returned we saw every other diner had a Sunday roast! I asked the waitress and she said they thought it was odd- we were the only ones having the festive menu. I told her about the phone call and they asked for details so they could investigate who called me. The mains were poor- steaks were ok but served with Sunday roast sides- sprouts, carrots, cabbage and roast potatoes! All of us pretty disappointed. After asking 3 times for dessert, they arrived- tiny slices of shop cheesecake with strawberry sauce for icecream. Choc fudge cake was fine. Eton mess consisted of a tall glass of whipped cream with a half of a meringue nest stuck in top and 1 strawberry!!!! We refused them. By this time we’d had enough! They took the desserts off the bill but we still paid more than the Sunday roast that we booked for. Festive menu was simply the same menu with minor tweaks, more expensive. One of the girls insisted that the manager would call me the next day- it is now 2 days later and still no call so leaving this review as they have made no effort to contact me. Over 3 hours for 3 courses of , on the whole, very poor food- won’t be returning and let all our friends know!
