We had an absolutely lovely wedding day lunch at The Hidden Knight. Not only was the food great but the personalised finishing touches were fantastic; from the handmade name cards and the special cocktails (the "blue unicorns" went down a treat and I loved the "Lisa's choice"), to the signage that perfectly fitted with our theme. It was clear from the start that they were all willing to listen to what we'd like, give advice and adapt where needed to make everything run smoothly for us, they really did go above and beyond for us and I truly appreciate it - I 100% made the right decision when I walked in their door to ask about whether we could come for a meal after our wedding. I would highly recommend this place for a group event if you'd like somewhere with a relaxed vibe and personal touches - absolutely fantastic!!!

The Hidden Knight (HK) Chesterfield Derbyshire A Green King pub with unusual free house favouring of multiple guest ales. A true quiet little gem of a bar, easily overlooked for being off the main market square. They were promoting forthcoming midsummer Xmas party nights and a Father Ted themed murder mystery during my visit. Arthur Chappell

Lovely pub on many visits but spoilt by rude and arrogant manager and partner which was surprising and disappointing as Chesterfield does need pubs - many have closed down. Hopefully in time they will be replaced by someone friendly as its a managed property I assume.

My Wife and I have visited here on a few occasions. The Pub has had a Makeover from its old Welbeck days , which gives it a pleasant ambiance , although the older version was , for me , more cosy. We did find the place uncomfortably cold in the Winter , but this had improved on a recent visit , as had the weather. The Service is friendly and efficient and there are a very good range of Beers and other drinks on offer. We have not as yet eaten there , but the Menu does look interesting. The Hidden Knight is a good Pub , but I do miss the Food and the atmosphere from its Predecessor. Worth a visit !

The Welbeck of Chesterfield, has gone to be replaced by, the ever growing in popularity, The Hidden Knight.. There's a great selection of alcoholic beverages and the food is great. I like food but the size of these portions just about beat me. For a pub and restaurant that is situated in the centre of Chesterfield all the drinks prices are very reasonably priced. I've visited quite a number of times now for meals and for evening nights of music nights. I particularly like the "music jam" sessions. Anyone a musician, turn up and play (check websites for what is happening). Own the mic nights are great too..this is NOT karaoke. A band, or just a bunch of musicians, play music to your chosen song. A little bit bored? They have books to read as well as pool, darts and a growing number of games to play. The Hidden Knight has been open a few months now and they have got a great team running the place and their number one priority is the customers satisfaction. No bad behaviour is acceptable and you will be quickly dealt with. ABUSE towards any member of the staff and you will be barred. I love it and it's fast becoming my favourite local to go to. If you are from Chesterfield or visiting the historic market town and twisted Spire church, try to make sure to pay a visit to the Hidden Knight..

Popped in here today after walking Chesterfield looking for a nice place. I enjoyed a 2 course lunch with a hot drink for £5.50! The lamb and mint pie was homemade, served with gravy, chips and veg... When I was ready for my pudding, I went up to the bar with my raffle ticket then 2mins later out came a delicious homemade cherry crumble with custard. I was very happy with my choice! The portions were quite small so wouldn't be good for a big appetite but a nice little pub with great value food.

There were a few locals / regulars sat chatting around the bar. We ordered the cheese, potato and broccoli pie and it was delicious and hot with prompt friendly service. They don't take cards so take cash with you. We had 2 meals, 2 puddings and drinks and it cost £19 in total. Really enjoyed the experience and we are planning on visiting again next week.

I usually just grab a sandwich and a drink from town when on my dinner break, but when the family joined me today we needed somewhere warm with some warm food inside us. I’d not visited The Wellbeck Inn for a fair few years, but the interior hasn’t changed and neither has the great value for money or friendly service.Cash only so make sure you visit the cash point and you pay for food and drinks separately. You then get a raffle ticket that’s called out when your food is ready. All four of us ate for around £15 - steak/kidney pie; scampi and two toastier. Drinks are also inexpensive, but latte tasted more like instant coffee, but still pleasant. The staff are very friendly and we will go again ... great experience.

We actually just went in this pub to get a pot tea and get out of the cold and im so glad we did. We had ta lovely greeting from the staff and a couple of ladies (obviously regulars) also welcomed us. We ordered a pot of tea and we had it within minutes. We decided to give the food a try. I had cottage pie, chips, carrots and peas and the fella had jacket potato and salad and the food was absolutely delicious. Then we spotted a pudding menu so a round of treacle sponge and bread and butter pudding, both with custard were called for. Once Again we weren't disappointed. Both the dinner and pudding were out within ten minutes. There was a man sat at the table next to us who enjoyed his steak pie, chips and mushy pea's that much he actually ordered another one. We we even more pleasantly surprised when the bill only came to £15.60 for a pot of tea for two ,two dinners and two puddings. We will certainly be going back.

Of note is the very extensive vegetarian menu. Dog friendly. Pool table. There are all sorts of characters and visitors here all adding to the rich tapestry of life. The landlady is holding it all together - we visited it at lunch time - and apologised having spotted that the vegetarian Shepard pie had been served with non veg gravy and had it returned to the kitchen for a replacement. This level of attention and care is what one dreams for when eating out. Pub food is fine and lots of choice. Leek and cheese quiche, seafood platter all good . Outside spaces for smokers.

We popped into The Welbeck Inn on Saturday lunchtime after walking past a few times and smelling the food. As we are new to Chesterfield we like to try different places and this was our first visit to a town centre pub.The pub was busy when we walked in with almost every table taken, mostly by a more elderly clientele. We found a table in a quiet room away from the main bar but unfortunately there was no atmosphere in this area.We both decided to go for a light bite of Cheese Burger & Chips but should have been warned by the price of just £3.35 each. The ordering was done at the bar and the service was quick, efficient and friendly. When the meals came out, the chips were pleasant, the small salad was ok but the burger was lacking in thickness and probably meat content as well. It was as thin as a wafer and very well done. There was no flavour and the cheese didn't really add anything to it. However, for just over three quid it's probably the best it would ever be or they wouldn't make any money. It did represent very good value as the food and both drinks came to just over a tenner. However, I would rather pay a little more and have better quality. The pub also let themselves down a bit as the table was dirty and sticky and the cutlery had to be chosen carefully.I did like the fact that the pub was busy and popular for many local people, but it won't be somewhere that we will be back to I'm afraid.

This is clearly a "local's" pub. We were made welcome & my food order was taken from the table because the landlord was talking very sweetly to the elderly gentleman next to me. The lager was good. £3 50 for leek & chicken pie plus veg & potatoes is very good value, but not if the pie is unglazed with ham in it, the spuds are chips, the carrots are not properly defrosted & the plate is swimming in gravy making everything soggy. Sorry. Not good. The lousiest meal out I've had in ages. Probably ever.

As I was Christmas shopping in Chesterfield on Monday 9th December), I didn't fancy Wetherspoons bland food, so strolled round the Market and spotted this pub up a side street. When arriving it was quite busy and I found myself a small table for 2 in the lounge. I was greeted by a friendly Barman(might have been the manager) and ordered Home made steak pie and chips for £2,99 and a pint of fosters. The meal didn't take too long to arrive at my table by a smiling waitress, I didnt know the meal also came with peas and carrots and gravy as well. As I finished my meal, the chef asked if I enjoyed my meal. As I was getting ready to go, 3 ladies on the table behind me, I overheard them arranging to meet up again for a meal in a few weeks time and they all had their diarys at the ready, this showing a good sign for the pub as these were regualrs. Prices have gone up a bit but the Welbeck still serves perfectly acceptable and very cheap meals. However, the beer is very expensive and was not very good the day we visited. The pub hasn't really changed over the years so, as other reviewers say, it's a pleasantly old-fashioned sort of pub for lunch. However, there is tough competition from the two local Wetherspoons (consistently good cheap beer and food) so I think I'd go to one of them next time.

This place gets better and better. I have tried most things on the menu but now I stick to the fish, chips and peas and the amazing thing is that I much prefer it here than in any fish and chip shop, which is amazing really cos you would think that a chip shop could not be beaten. The latest news is that the landlady, dawn, makes certain puddings which are so good that they quickly sell out.Although we always try and support all food outlets, we only recommend this place in Chesterfield.

I have been going in the wellbeck weekly for many years the food is homemade and excellent value for money. I particularly like their homemade pies and hot puddings , The landlord and landlady are so welcoming and friendly nothing is too much trouble and they have an excellent team of staff that are very hardworking ensuring all customers are served quickly with quality pub food. I always finish my meal off with one of their floater coffees however my husband prefers a good pint of beer !

This Chesterfield town centre pub serves very good value meals that are definitely Home Made and since we discovered this little gem 3 years ago, we have lunch here most weeks. It really is this bargain price and the quality of the food and coffee is very very good.I can't recommend this place enough and so we say that if you are visiting Chesterfield to shop or to see the famous Crooked Spire on the church, try it and see for yourself. All the staff are courteous and hard working to ensure that you are served quickly. We always talk to the other friendly customers and have discovered that some have been eating here for years!I usually have the lasagne and a special pudding followed by a floater coffee.. but its all good..

Very good breakfast and exceptionally friendly staff. Our stay was cut short by the effect of the floods. We had planned to have our evening meal here on the strength of the breakfast.

Foods decent but I feel they try to cram too many people in for food when the kitchen can't cope. They said there's gonna be a slight delay but we were waiting for the mains for nearly 2 hours.

Extensive menu catering for a wide range of tastes. Portions are generous making prices good. Staff friendly in a typical local pub. Would benefit from an accessible website.
