A chilly with peas on the side? And the rice seems like it was microwaved. My missus had halloumi salad that had rocket one spring onion two leaves of little jem and over cooked halloumi. No dressing or tomatoes oh well you live and learn

I wish I'd been a proper nerdy reviewer and taken photos of our food! It was top quality. We only had starter and dessert, expecting a light bite, super generous portions, we were both stufty mcgrufty....... The guy behind me had a steak dish, and it took up half the table. Quite busy for early Tuesday evening, but still plenty of tables Staff were delightful too, very chirpy and quick to sort out our issues We'll definitely be back to try out the main menu

Decided to pop in for breakfast.. great service and value although both bacon and sausages were burnt black and the eggs were over cooked and not particularly inviting. We asked for one vegetarian breakfast but they don't do any kind of veggy sausages or bacon and again the eggs were over cooked. Lovely venue but was disappointed in the over cooked items...

Fantastic Sunday lunch! Have been 3 times now and all occasions were amazing. The food is amazing, tasty and good quality. The roast beef was so lean, just the way we like it. The young girls who look after us are so friendly and can’t do enough for you, such a lovely place to go and eat or even a drink.

Excellent meal with friendly staff. Rare to get real home cooked food anymore and this exceeded expectations will defiantly be returning

Went with family for Sunday lunch, the food was lovely can’t fault it however I have a newborn baby and there is no baby change?! Waitress said I could change him on the bench where we were sat (in the restaurant!) , luckily changed him before another family came in 5 mins later otherwise I don’t know what I’d have done!

Been a few times for Sunday lunch. Staff always happy to help and friendly. Food is beautiful. Tried the Pork and Chicken lunches. Not stay there yet but looking at a weekend break very soon.

Excellent breakfast! Good quality and good plate size Dog friendly and comfortable surroundings. Made to feel very welcome.

Update: Have been back several times - staff continue to be delightful and food excellent. Had a delicious Sunday lunch here. Staff were super friendly. Will be back.

Amazing vegan shepherds pie, big portions. Would prefer more than one vegetarian option but the one they have is stunning. Veg is beautifully done, roasties are delicious and the gravy is great.

A spontaneous trip, we were hungry on the way back from chesterfield.l and decided to give it a go. This family run, traditional pub is well with a visit, a hidden gem. I've not been for about 10 years as living in Matlock we usually just drive past. It's changed with a recent refurb but they kept the original features, beams and fireplaces etc so it's still kept the traditional Derbyshire village pub feel. The girls who served us were friendly and helpful. Food was absolutely brilliant, decent portions, all home made and great value. Thank you all, we'll be back.

We waited 1 hour and 10 minutes for our mains. I ordered the fish & chips, and my other half ordered steak pie & mash. My fish came out with a hard and stale like batter, and the meat inside had a very dry texture like it had been sat out for a while. The pie & mash was very similar; the crust was stale and hard, the meat was overly soggy and the mash was like it had been left under a heat lamp for a while. We could understand if the restaurant was busy, but it was not at all. The two girls who served us were friendly, but we were not seen to throughout the time of ordering and receiving our food, which was over an hour. Chances are this was a one off as most of the reviews look very good (which is why we chose to come here), but we personally didn’t enjoy our visit and wouldn’t recommend to others.

Amazing food with great portion size!!

Quick midweek lunch. Had seen the lamb and mint pie on their FB page. A proper pie and you don't see lamb pie offered very often. It came with chips, peas roast parsnips and roast carrots and a jug of thick gravy. Absolutely delicious. The other people had scampi and chips which looked just as good. Service was quick and friendly.

Called in whilst on a drive out and so glad we did. Their Sunday roasts are incredible. £17 for a large, and I do mean LARGE is unbeatable value for the quality & quantity of the food. Nice thick cuts of beef, really tender veg and fantastic yorkies. Will definitely be back!!!

Food was really good, I recommend it. Was tempted to give it 4 stars as we returned the next day to get breakfast only to find it closed even though there’s a big sign outside advertising breakfasts. The lunch we had was really good and a good sized portion. We had fish and chips, ploughman’s lunch and a child’s sausage and mash. He’s 13 so wasn’t sure if to go for the adults one, but the child’s was big enough for lunch.

We loved our time here while on Holiday for a night glamping nearby. We came for dinner and as it was so good we decided to come for breakfast the next day. The food overall was so tasty and surf and turf and raspberry and lemon cheese cake were the stand out dishes for us. The price was really reasonable for 3 courses and plenty of beer. Breakfast was so tasty and not greasy what so ever. Couldn’t fault it! Lovely service too! Lastly they are so dog friendly, water and blanket and plenty of treats for a needy dog. Came here on a recommendation, the food was lovely & the staff very friendly & welcoming, I ordered the large Sunday dinner, but the plate was soooooo small, everything was just so squashed up! For the large dinner, the plates could do with being bigger to accommodate for the extra food. Other that I was happy with it

Visited The Kelstedge for a Ssunday lunch, having walked across from Ashover , having read other TA reviews of Sunday lunches..... Friendly welcome and the the pre-boked table was ready on time. We opted for the regular sized roast beef, and it was delicious. Nice big Yorkshire pudding, gravy plenty of veg which included some buttery mash, but the star was the generous portion of beautifully cooked beef. The meal was plenty for me, so those opting for the large size ( a couple of pounds more) or a sweet must have big old appetites! All in all well recommended. Add a nice pint and a good walk and a lovely afternoon.

Food excellent and really good value for money. Hint, unless you can eat a horse go for the standard offering, there`s more than enough.

A stunning pub with an amazing village located behind that is worth a visit

5 of us visited this pub whilst holidaying in Derbyshire. The food was excellent. Piping hot fresh and plenty of it. The overwhelming reason I am writing this review is I wanted to mention the staff. The girl behind the bar who also doubled up as the waitress, was friendly and made us very welcome. She was cheerful and gave service with a smile. It makes such a change to service we have received in other establishments.. The pies are fabulous and make room for a pudding if you can. Bread and butter pudding and the chocolate pudding went down a treat. Highly recommend.

We had a fabulous evening at The Kelstedge. A very sweet quiet local pub. The bar lady was so lovely and really made our visit. It was just her and the one chef and together they provided a fantastic evening. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the lamb pie and the scampi. Great selection of desserts too. Highly recommend. Added bonus- dog friendly. They provided blankets, toys, treats and a 'pupcake' pudding for our puppy!

Read ALL of this review before judging. Please DO NOT read the first part and make your decision based on that. At the back end of last year, me and my best mate decided we'd go out for breakfast, We chose the Kelstedge and I rang up to make the booking half an hour before we wished to eat on Sunday morning. I phoned to enquire about dining in half an hour to be greeted by the fact we could, as I was expecting to be refused at such short notice for non residents. The cooked breakfast was ok but not as it should be - there was no oatcake, the sausages were strange as they were like a Swedish meatball taste and consistency and overall not a good first impression, but OK. There was a reason for this. The regular breakfast chef had been in a car accident the evening before. Now, I believe in giving food establishments a second chance. Therefore, about a couple of weeks or so ago, in early February 2023, I booked in for breakfast at The Kelstedge. It was brilliant. When the cooked breakfast arrived, everything was there, the fried eggs cooked to perfection, the tomato half cut the correct way, seasoned perfectly and a FULL oatcake - not a quarter or a half but a full one. This breakfast, complete with slice of toast, was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. I'm not sure exactly how the sausages were cooked as they were the same colour all the way round as if they had been deep fried rather than grilled or oven baked, but they were still super and they were a great quality sausage. This breakfast was cooked by a 19 year old too which I find commendable. Great work Millie ( I hope I've spelt that right). The price is very reasonable at £12.50 for a Full Breakfast with tea/coffee extra Don't expect service to be superfast - it's just right and superbly warm. All in all 10 out of 10

called in today we had the sharing plater for 2 it was all great the steak cooked to perfection. this plater could have served 3 .definitely worth a visit

After reading the reviews on here thought we’d give it a whirl. Unfortunately wish I’d have given it a miss. Having chose ham egg and chips I was disappointed, one egg over cooked and ham wasn’t very nice, thought it would have been nice thick slices of Wiltshire ham or something on those lines but it was thin sliced and lots of white inedible sinew running through it, scampi was ok. If waitress (who was nice) had returned to check I could have sent it back but didn’t so sucked it up and did my best. They need bigger plates or less food on them as I kept losing my food on the table. Shame as I expected better.oh well

Only had a drink but seemed like a nice pub and nice staff working there.

Enjoyed the roast dinner sitting outside in the sunshine one late April Sunday. Great pint of Landlord, too. Themed nights including Caribbean. Nice pub with contemporary decor that has kept some traditional features inside, with the added outside area having been created to a great standard. Bikes zooming past along Chesterfield Road a bit annoying but the food distracted from that. Choice of beef, chicken or gammon, large freshly made yorkies, cauliflower cheese, a massive boat of gravy and accompanying veg. Good portion.. although it needed to be at £16! I would mention more about the high price of a Sunday lunch here, was it not for the fact that it was blooming delicious!! Grandma's Bread and butter pudding to finish (bloody lovely Grandma) and a couple of pints of Rutland ale. Great pub and well positioned for local walks before or after to Ashover and beyond. Great food, Good beer selection, well placed to explore the area and make a day of it.

We visited on a Sunday. The offering was Sunday roast with a good selection of Meats or a baguette served with gravy and roast potatoes. We opted for the beef and stilton baguette. Absolutely delicious and the staff were very friendly.
